How to Upgrade Vehicles in Subnautica

TL;DR To upgrade vehicles like the Prawn Suit and Seamoth, you need to find the blueprint for the Vehicle Upgrade Console and build it in your Moonpool using the Habitat Builder. The console allows you to craft various vehicle modules.

Vehicle Upgrade Console Blueprint

The Vehicle Upgrade Console is essential for crafting vehicle upgrades. You must first locate its blueprint, which can be found in data boxes scattered throughout various wrecks in the game [1:1][2:1]. Some players have reported finding these blueprints in the grassy plateau area near the northeastern mushroom forest [2:1], while others found them in the western mushroom forest [3:2] or underwater islands [4:1].

Building the Vehicle Upgrade Console

Once you have the blueprint, you can build the Vehicle Upgrade Console in your Moonpool using the Habitat Builder [1:2][1:5]. Ensure that your Moonpool has the console installed, as this is where you'll craft vehicle upgrades [1:4]. If you're having trouble with crafting, restarting the game might resolve any issues [1:3].

Crafting Upgrades

With the Vehicle Upgrade Console installed, you can create various modules for your vehicles. For example, the drill arm for the Prawn Suit is crafted at this console [4:1]. It's important to note that some upgrades, such as depth modules, require a separate Modification Station, which is built in your seabase [3:2][3:3].

Finding Specific Fragments and Data Boxes

If you're struggling to find specific fragments or data boxes, exploring wrecks near lifepod 19 or in the grand reef may yield results [5:2][4:6]. Using tools like the laser cutter or propulsion cannon can help access areas within wrecks [5:1][4:1].

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully upgrade your vehicles in Subnautica, enhancing your exploration capabilities and survival chances in the game's underwater world.

ORIGINAL POST

I have the drill arm for the Prawn suit but I’m confused as to how to craft the module. I already have the Moonpool station at my base but it won’t let me craft there nor on the Cyclops and neither on the portable Vehicle Builder thingy

CupcakeFormer · 2 years ago

They are crafted with the vehicle upgrade console in the moonpool. If you have the recipe and the ingredients and it still doesn't work you may want to try restarting the game.

5 upvotes on reddit
BigChungusOP · OP · 2 years ago

Does the moonpool already have that installed or do I have to build one separately in the moonpool? I’ll check again when I visit my base

1 upvotes on reddit
CupcakeFormer · 2 years ago

You have to build it in the moonpool with the habitat builder. The blueprint for the vehicle upgrade console can be found in data boxes so you'll want to search wrecks for that.

No you have to build and find it(i think) on your own

As the other people in the comments have said, there is an actual base component called the Vehicle Upgrade Console that you have to find the blueprint for before you can make upgrades. I believe its parts can be found in the Shallows, and also frequently in the red grass biome.

Y’all know you can unlock all blueprints by command?

I know it takes the fun out of the game, but sometimes I do a run without blueprints, just to gather, and build millions of bases.

I know, but I'd rather do a survival run without CCs since it's my first run. That idea sounds fun though, I might try it out in future, thank you!

Where can I find it?

The blueprint I found was >!in a wreck in the grassy plateau area near the northeastern mushroom forest (the one near the Aurora/Mountain island). You need a laser cutter to get to it, and it should be on the "bottom floor" of the wreck in a data box (same wreck contains a data box for a lightweight high capacity O2 tank - that's how you know you've found the right one.!< Hope that helps! :)

But I already found the lightweight high capacity O2 tank and I didn't find anything else there

Firstly, the vehicle upgrade console blueprints are found in a databox in a wreck. There are several possible wrecks where it may spawn. I recall in my most recent playthrough I got it from the wreck in the western mushroom forest.

Secondly, and more importantly, are you aware that the vehicle upgrade station isn't needed to upgrade your depth module to mark 2? Depth modules are upgraded with a modification station, which is a totally different thing.

This is so confusing. But that station is what I found and only fits on the cyclops no?

I recently played 12+ hours in Freedom mode, and then restarted in Survival. In Freedom, I feel like I got the vehicle upgrade station as fragments in a red grass place. But when I did Survival I could not find any fragments anywhere. Turns out it was a data box message 1200-ish meters out this time. I don't know if I'm remembering this all correctly or if there is a difference in the two modes. But it was making me nuts all day trying to find that blueprint as I have almost everything else.

How do I uninstall, install, and move around equipment on my sub?

Posted by punkrockandpancakes · in r/Barotrauma · 3 months ago

I just upgraded to a new sub, and the new one has a tremendous amount of wasted space for a submarine. Some of the things that I need to do is move all of my junction boxes into one room so that my engineer isn't running around the entire sub just repairing junction boxes. My new sub also doesn't have any batteries so I also need to take out the batteries from my old sub and wire them into my new one.

Update: Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply. It sounds like Barocraftables+ will give me the options to do this. I'm going to start a new game with this mod and maybe some other mods to expand the game some more and make my life a little more difficult.

To the dev team if you ever see this: I hope you'll add this mechanic to the base game. It's something that just naturally seems like it should be in there. Looting and DIYing my way to my dream sub is much more motivating and engaging than simply buying upgrades at the outposts

This is the mod you want. Regardless, submarines having downsides is not a bad thing. It keeps the game interesting and ensures nothing is completely op.

2 upvotes on reddit
punkrockandpancakes · OP · 3 months ago

That is exactly the mod I want. Thank you! I completely agree that subs should have their downsides which is why I don't want to resolve this by just using the sub editor. I was just confused because the game seems like it wants you to be able to install, uninstall, and move around equipment since it has such an in depth focus on custom wiring. Seems like customizing and upgrading your sub as you progress would be a natural and enticing part of the game

1 upvotes on reddit
Alphado-Jaki · 3 months ago

You can't, if you playing in vanilla. You can utilize those dead spaces for gardening, extra ballast or extra storage.

There's the mod barocraftables but it won't let you straight up remove objects iirc, it's simpler to go on the sub editor, make a copy of the sub and edit it there, then replace your current sub with the new one

1 upvotes on reddit
punkrockandpancakes · OP · 3 months ago

This is what I started to do, but I can't be trusted with the limitless freedom that the sub editor provides. It just seems like moving around equipment like batteries and shelves would be a standard part of the game (similar to Ostranauts) which is why I was confused. From what I can tell so far, barocraftables+ allows you to do all of this in game

2 upvotes on reddit

Can you tell me the name of the mod? It seems like the only mods I see on the workshop are just custom subs

Inefficient and bad placement of sub equipment is part of what balances the subs. With some subs you choose between for example blind spots on the guns, having all your turret controls in one room, or junction rooms that flood easily

If you have BYOS ship then you have to put crew beds (you can craft them in the main FU workbech)

If you use vanilla ship then you hve to get some upgrade kits and bring them to penguin pete (guy that sells vehicles at outpost)

You can easily check it by breacking a background wall. If you see space/planet(or other places) you are orbiting it means that you have BYOS ship. If you see pipes and other stuff then you have vanilla ship so you have to upgrade it at penguin pete

So the car we have I love it right but it's kinda like plastic and gets set on fire for the littlest thing and the tires will pop over some random thing. The Vehicle Bay let's you upgrade your car the more you upgrade the better it gets.

Breaks, speed, turning speed, more ammo and way better armor.

Everything will improve more and more the more you upgrade and it can be upgraded by using samples. What do you guys think do you hate the idea so damn much or do you like it? What do you guys think?

I always carry a grenade launcher or crossbow if I'm taking my car out for a ride. It's easy to flip if it you aim at just the right spot. Conversely, it's easy to blow up if your aim is off by about a foot.

How to upgrade vehicle in subnautica

Upgrading Vehicles in Subnautica: Key Considerations

  1. Blueprints: First, ensure you have the necessary blueprints for the upgrades you want to install. You can find blueprints by scanning fragments in the world or by crafting them at the Vehicle Upgrade Console.

  2. Vehicle Upgrade Console: You need to build a Vehicle Upgrade Console, which can be installed in your Cyclops or Seamoth. This console is where you'll craft and install upgrades.

  3. Materials Required: Gather the required materials for each upgrade. Common materials include Titanium, Lithium, and other resources that you can find throughout the game.

  4. Types of Upgrades:

    • Seamoth Upgrades: These include Depth Modules (to increase depth capacity), Sonar, and Torpedoes.
    • Cyclops Upgrades: These can enhance power efficiency, depth capacity, and provide additional storage.
  5. Installation: Once you have the materials and blueprints, go to the Vehicle Upgrade Console, select the upgrade you want to install, and craft it. Then, you can install it directly onto your vehicle.

Recommendation: Prioritize upgrading the depth capacity of your Seamoth and Cyclops early in the game. This will allow you to explore deeper biomes safely, which is crucial for gathering advanced resources and blueprints.
