Ghosties often get stuck on terrain making them free scans, and reapers struggle to hit you if you strafe sideways. You can also just tank hits from them and use med kits to fix your health and keep scanning. The sea dragon is much harder though as it’s very fast and can one shot

I find it easiest to just loop around them focusing on their tail, and if they turn around to attack either ascend or descend depending on which way they're going

I FOUND AN ANSWER Just find a place they are too big to get into and while they tryna squeeze in start scanning and pray. worked for shadow leviathan so yeah

Chelicerate is slower at cornering than you are in the water. I sneaked up behind one and kept strafing around its head, keeping just out of reach until the scan finished.

Didn't get to do the same with the other one, as it swims so fast I can't get close.

Go with full health in a seatruck, let it grab you, then aftee it let's go, get out and start scanning while above it. It'll probably attack you once and deal like 70HP of damage. If you heal once you should then be at 80HP and I think it then can't instakill you due to dealing 70HP damage.

You just have to keep scanning while swimming over it and while it tries to turn back on itself and kill you

This was how I did it without dying, but it took a couple of tries. I didn't even know you could kill them

Murder them with your Seatruck. Run into them and zap them till they die.

There is one ventgarden near one where you can safely be inside and scan the Leviathan through the ventgarden as he clips in

An alternate strategy is to let it eat your prawn suit, then get out and scan it while it's busy chowing down.

The prawn suit will be fine, and you'll get plenty of progress on the scan. Just repair your prawn and repeat.

After one attacks you there’s a delay before it attacks you again, my strategy was to get attacked and then scan it during the delay

Be lucky. I scanned the shrimp leviathan while I was in a cave that was to small for him.

How do you do this? Only ever been able to scan benign stuff.

I recently learned that you can build two scanner rooms simultaneously to track reapers and resources both for safer looting.

Why would you need to do all of that when the big crawlies can easily find you from across the map? They're the third inevitability of life, along taxes and death

It would actually be better if you build the scanner room in the >!middle of the crystal caves itself. But then there is no point in scanning for the leviathan anyways because if you are in range it has a very short aggro timer so will attack you faster than you can dodge. So the only option is defense perimeter upgrade!<

You have to be sneaky, yes. You can sacrifice a vehicle for them to chow on, while you are scanning them, or you can wedge them behind some rock they can't fit in, and scan them from behind those.

Surprised you don’t want to kill them

Stasis rifle freezes them.

Best bet is stasis rifle, you can find fragments in several of the wrecks, build you one and use it to stasis them so you can scan em

I’m not exaggerating, I legitimately screamed when it grabbed me, I thought I had warded it away when I sent out a little zap while going deeper into the crystal caves but no it just silently snuck up on me and tried to eat me, another quick zap and it let go and I trucked away, it followed me almost all the way back to Marguerite’s, had to zap it a few more times before it left and I could retrieve my sleeper module

The stasis rifle is a helpful tool for that.

I got my first sea dragon without a stasis rifle. Just swam up to it (with seaglide) and scanned it. I had no idea what I was in for and it didn't aggro me at all. Sure set me up for a false sense of security in the future.

Yeah, as said, you gotta be near the head. Original was the same way.

I will tell you you can’t scan the worms you see that try to eat you, those are weird and not “real” creatures. You need to get their scan from a specific spot.

Believe you gotta be fairly close to it or towards the head area but I could be wrong
