TL;DR To uninstall Minecraft mods, locate the mods folder in your Minecraft directory and remove or rename the mod files.
Locating the Mods Folder
The first step in uninstalling Minecraft mods is to locate the mods folder. On Windows, you can do this by pressing Windows + R
, typing %appdata%
, navigating to .minecraft
, and then opening the mods
folder [1:1]. This folder contains all the installed mods as
.jar
files.
Removing Mod Files
Once you've found the mods folder, you can simply delete the mod files that you want to uninstall [2:2],
[3:1]. If you're concerned about losing the mod permanently, you can move the file to another location on your computer instead of deleting it
[1:1].
Disabling Mods Without Deletion
If you prefer to disable a mod without deleting it, you can change the file extension from .jar
to something else, like .disabled
[2:1],
[2:4]. However, some users have reported that this method does not always work
[2:3]. Ensure that file extensions are visible in your file explorer settings before attempting this method.
Considerations for Mod Dependencies
Be aware that removing certain mods may affect other mods that depend on them. For example, if you uninstall a mod that another mod relies on, you may encounter errors when launching Minecraft [4:3]. In such cases, you may need to either reinstall the dependent mod or find an alternative solution.
Impact on Saved Games
Uninstalling mods can potentially corrupt saved games if those games were created with the mods active [5:2]. It's advisable to back up your game saves before removing any mods, especially if they significantly alter gameplay elements.
To remove mods you go into the mod folder that’s inside the minecraft folder then you find the file for that mod and delete it
Close the game (completely) -> find where you installed it -> find the mods folder -> cut/paste that mod .jar file out of that folder (or change the extension to something other than .jar...like .disabled or something).
Note that if you've already created a world using that mod and try to play that world without it your game might crash (or it might be fine, only one way to find out!).
So I changed it from .jar to .disabled and that mod is still activated. I don’t know what to from here
That worked just fine for me. Sorry it didn't for you.
go into the mod folder and add a ".disabled" or really anything on to the end of the jar's fine name. Make sure you have file extensions turned on.
I know it might get tiresome having people ask about mods but I just really need to know how to turn off a mod without deleting it. I'm doing a modded survival rn and after I want to try some other mods so I will need to disable the others. Any help would be wonderful, thanks
Remove it from your mods folder
I tried that but it didn't disable it
You have to remove it from your mods folder.
I'll try, I did that before with jei and it did nothing
That's impossible. It can't run the mod, without the mod.
I am using forge and i instal JEI but when i delete it cant launch forge anymore it just says JEI is missing x...x what do i do?
Re-install JEI
but i want to remove it thou?
There's probably another mod that depends on it.
i've been playing with a mod but it's really annoying to deal with so i was wondering wether unistalling it would corrupt my game
no

I'm in 1.15.2, and I searched it up, and it says there is a disable button, but when I go to the mods bar in MC, there does not seem to be a disable button. maybe i'm just blind? if someone could help that would be awesome
If u go to the main menu of minecraft, their is a mod button, if u click that, it shows u the mods u have, u can click it and it will say disable
That's where i went, I see that button, I click, leads me to a list of mods, but I don't see any button to disable, I've clicked int he mods in the list all I get is a description
Ok
Nvm I don't think you can send pics in chat, but there is NO disable button

Can't you just deactivate them with mmm?
Did you delete everything in your BenInEx folder?
Just delete all your Gorilla Tag files and uninstall/reinstall. That will confirm the removal of the mods but will not affect your ban in any way.
I got the mod that allows you to install mods in-game and I was wondering if you could uninstall it in-game instead of having to plug your headset in and then deleting it in the mods folder
Go to mods, settings uninstall all. This is the only way
Will this mess with game files at all?
how would it I don't understand its a mod deleting it wouldn't do anything why would deleting a file that wasn't there until you added it be messing with the files adding the mod is more likely to do something than deleting a file that isn't even on the base vanilla bonelab
(I know this post was a year ago but to all the people trying to figure it out)
On PC, you need to press the Windows key, type "%appdata%", next in the file location/directory up top click appdata, click locallow, scroll down till you find stress level zero, click mods and delete any ones you don't want.
On Quest, all you need to do is follow this simple tutorial: Tutorial
I would love to, but something's happened to the video
i’ve been wondering the same but it looks like, at least for now, if you wanna uninstall you have to plug the headset in. the mod menu and repo need a lotta work :/ idk if it’s just me but i can only scroll until i reach maybe F or G before my game crashes
Is there a mod cap? Im using index and have like 6 pages of modded levels and 5 pages of avatars and it won't let me download anything else. I have enough space on sdd have over 100gb free
I had the same issue. Closing the game completely and reopening let me download more
Oh ok I jus went to mod.io to download directly as you can search and such it's where the mods come from anyway pretty sure.
Got to mods section, go to downloaded and click on the mod you want to uninstall, i think

Install them again then press ctrl + Z, it removes the folders and files that you copied last.
Oh wow that's a cool way to go about it. Are any of these files overwriting vanilla ones though? Like am I going to be missing vanilla files if I just delete these? I notice the instructions say to "overwrite files if asked".
Most files that go in generate folder aren't vanilla to begin with, what's most likely is gonna happen in the worst case scenario, If you try to remove a patch of a mod from the game you remove partial parts of the main mod as well but its very unlikely because most patches come in pak form not lose files.
some mods like unique tav and its tattoos or make ups use loose files.
So I pressed the uninstall all button AND unsubscribed from them on mod.io but every time I press download it still tries to download all of them
Having the same problem bro. If you know how to fix it please lmk (are you on oculus?)
I just deleted my data so I could relink a new mod.io account
Sound I’ll do that Idm playing the story again. Did you delete the data through oculus setting or directly on the game, thanks
Yeah on oculus, still can't find a fix
