Unlocking All Endings in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

TL;DR

  • There are six main endings.
  • Some endings require completing specific questlines.
  • The Frenzied Flame ending locks you out of others unless undone.

Understanding the Endings

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree features six distinct endings, each tied to different questlines and choices made throughout the game. These include:

  1. Age of Fracture: The default ending achieved by completing the game without any additional requirements [3:1].
  2. Age of the Stars: Achieved by completing Ranni’s questline, which is considered one of the most popular endings due to its narrative depth [4:3].
  3. Blessing of Despair: Requires completion of Dung Eater’s questline [3:1].
  4. Age of Order: Unlocked through Goldmask and Brother Corhyn’s questline [3:1].
  5. Age of the Duskborn: Tied to Fia’s questline [3:1].
  6. Lord of Frenzy Flame: Requires finding a hidden area and interacting with a specific character. This ending can lock you out of others unless reversed with a key item from Millicent's quest [4:4].

Avoiding Missable Endings

The Frenzied Flame ending is unique in that it locks players out of other endings once its conditions are met. However, this can be undone using a key item obtained from Millicent's quest after defeating Malenia, allowing players to pursue other endings [4:4]. Additionally, some endings are considered missable if certain debuffs or conditions are removed before completing required tasks [1:1].

Questlines and Achievements

To unlock all endings, players must complete various NPC questlines. Each ending corresponds to a specific achievement, encouraging exploration and interaction with the game's world and characters [3:1]. It's recommended to follow guides or walkthroughs for these questlines to ensure no steps are missed, as some quests have intricate requirements [5:1].

Community Preferences

While there is no canonical ending, Ranni's "Age of the Stars" is often favored by the community for its engaging storyline and satisfying conclusion [4:7]. Players seeking a more comprehensive understanding of the game's lore may prefer this ending, though personal preference will ultimately guide choice.

ORIGINAL POST

I’m playing the game and I just defeated Widow in Bellheart, for reference to how far into the game I am. I know there are multiple endings to this game, just like in Hollow Knight. However, I want to get each of them in the same file, if at all possible.

So basically my question is this: can I get every ending in the same file, and if so can you guys give me advice on how to get ones you can get locked out of (if they exist) before I accidentally lock myself out of them? Any help is much appreciated, just try not to spoil too much if possible.

There is only one missable ending to my knowledge. Trying to minimize spoilers by describing in a generic way.

As part of a sidequest late in the game, you will receive a temporary debuff. Instead of removing the debuff, defeat a major story boss with the debuff. I don't believe there is a way to get the debuff back once it is gone. The window is fairly short to do this.

Dang, just did this today, received and removed. Guess it’s probably worth not worrying about at the expense of enjoyment for a first in-depth playthrough, tho

The same happened to me - removed it before I learned about the criteria for the ending. Something to do on a second playthrough.

How many endings are there?

Posted by MysteryMan9274 · in r/Silksong · 25 days ago

I've tried to look for progression info carefully, just enough to (roughly) guide me to the next objective but not enough to spoil what's coming. So, to my understanding, there are 3 endings. The final boss is accessible after getting the Three Melodies (I currently have just one of them), and beating them is Ending 1. Then Ending 2 requires you to "get cursed" as part of a side quest and beat the boss again, which is missable. Ending 3 is somehow tied to Act 3, which I know almost nothing about.

However, I've seen a couple of conflicting reports that there are actually 5 endings. I haven't been able to find details on the other two, and I'd rather not look it up directly since I don't want to know what they are. So, can anyone tell me if there are 3 or 5 endings? And there are 5, can you vaguely describe the requirements for the other two endings?

  1. Beat the game, skipping as much content as possible (Act II ending)

  2. Beat the game after getting cursed (you'll know it when you see it) without removing the curse, skipping as much content as possible (Act II ending)

  3. Do literally every single last bloody fucking sidequest, no exceptions (which means practically 100%ing the map to ensure you miss no npcs) up to Act 3, then literally stop doing sidequests for some reason because lol.

  4. Same as option 2, but you do all of the third ending requirements, without removing the 2nd ending curse

  5. Do literally every single last sidequest, no exceptions, up to and including after act III, gather everything, get 100%

Damn. Do 1 and 3, and 2 and 4 have different achievements/cutscenes, or is it like the Godhome ending where barely anything changes if you give Godseeker the Delicate Flower?

GaKillThem · 25 days ago

I feel what he said was relatively wrong, there is only 4 ending (And 4 achievements + the 1 for mister mushroom)

- 1 beat the final boss of act II

- 2 beat the final boss of act II while cursed (You can lock it out if you get healed)

- 3 beat the final boss after doing the quest 'Silk and song' you'll need all of the quests and move the fleas to their last locations, I think maybe finishing Sharka questline. This will unlcok act 3 and make the two other ending impossible.

- 4 Beat the final boss of act 3 (Aka the true ending)

And yeah they all have different cutscenes.

I don't know I haven't done any except the first ending, And, excuse my language, "fuck doing the 2nd or 4th endings". I'll try steel soul before I try to beat the game cursed. Act 2 or otherwise.

Very vague list on how to get endings of which there are six, all of which require beating final boss:

  1. Just finish game normally, no quest lines needed.

  2. Ranni’s Questline.

  3. Fia’s questline (lady in Roundtable hold, sits on bed)

  4. Gold mask and Brother Corhyn’s questline.

  5. Dung Eater’s questline.

  6. Meet NPC in Cathedral of the Forsaken, below the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds area. (Feel like I have to be super vague on this one).

Question about the endings as a new player

Posted by OwnerE314 · in r/eldenringdiscussion · 7 months ago

I more so wanted to confirm some things my friend had mentioned. So there's supposedly 6 endings: One you can get from just playing through casually, one you get from getting all the great runes, and 4 you get from going through sperate chains of questlines. He also said that although there isn't a cannon ending, within the community, Ranni's ending "Age of Stars" was seen as the "best" one because people like Ranni/her questline the most, and it's also seen as the most common one as well.

Obviously I can just look up guides on how to actually get them, but I was wondering how the community seems to view the endings including Ranni's? Without spoilers on what each ending actually is, just enough info to actually know which path you're talking about, ty

Getting all of the Great Runes doesn't unlock a new ending. There's a default ending for just playing through the game normally, and there are 3 unlockable variations for that ending which are unlocked by obtaining Mending Runes at the end of specific questlines. There's also Ranni's ending, which you unlock by finishing Ranni's quest, and the Frenzied Flame ending which you unlock by finding a hidden area and interacting with a certain character down there.

And if i do multiple of these things can i choose the ending i get when it comes down to it, or does meeting the qualifications for one lock me out of getting the qualifications of another?

For the most part, yes. If you do the quests you get a choice at the end. The exception is the Frenzied Flame ending- if you fulfil the requirements for that one, you are locked out of the other endings. However, if you get a key item for doing Millicent's quest and defeating Malenia, you can use it in a specific boss room to undo the effects of the Frenzied Flame, which will allow you to choose one of the other endings.

There is

  1. Age of the Stars (simping for Ranni)

  2. Age of Order (Chad Goldmask)

  3. Age of Fracture (no ending enjoyer)

  4. Blessing of Despair (Dookie Devourer Ending)

  5. Age of the Duskborn (Godwyn Ending)

  6. And Lord of Frenzy Flame (Evil Ending)

6 Endings total. I select the ending based on what looks best for my drip, mostly 4 and 6.

Definition of Frenzy Flame: burns all away including spirits, putting an end to life itself.

Its literally the end of the world, it does not get more evil than that. "Defeatist" would be to give up to Miquella.

What is that about "downvoting" and not having an argument?

There is no ending specifically for getting all great runes. Besides the basic ending there are a few endings locked behind getting a mending rune (there are various types) and then two endings are locked behind long quest lines, one is rannis.

Question about getting locked out of endings

Posted by EmeraldVampire · in r/Silksong · 23 days ago

I just beat the final boss and got the first main ending. I’m planning on getting all the endings in one save file, and I’m assuming you can get locked out of some of the endings, so I want to make sure I don’t do that. I got a bit spoiled about the ‘cursed’ ending, so I know how to do that and will make sure to do that before curing the curse, and I know that the existence of act 3 is tied to a wish called ‘silk and soul’, so I know not to do that when I see it until I’m ready for act 3.

From what I’ve heard, there are 4 or 5 endings, however I can’t find anything saying the requirements for the other endings, which I’m assuming are after act 3. Other than the basic ending and the cursed ending, can you get locked out of the other endings? If so, how (without spoiling the contents of the ending)?

There are really only 3 endings as far as I know. The basic act 2 ending, The cursed act 2 ending and the act 3 ending

When people say 5 endings they include 1 that's an extra scene that plays after an ending and another that's kind of a "fake" ending (You'll know it when you see it)

EmeraldVampire · OP · 22 days ago

I saw a thing that listed the endings as ‘Base ending’ ‘Cursed ending’ ‘Silk ending’ ‘Void ending’ and ‘True ending’, with Silk, Void, and True ending all being linked act 3 in some way, so I was asking because I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss any of those 3.

From what I’ve heard Base and Curse should be the only missable ones, and I’m hoping that’s true since I’ve done them now, and don’t want to miss the other three.

Question about Endings

Posted by rakleine · in r/Silksong · 25 days ago

I tagged for spoilers just in case they come up in the comments, but I just have a question for anyone (if there is anyone) who has completed all of the endings.

Is it similar to Hollow Knight where you can get all of them in a single playthrough? Is there a way to accidentally lock yourself out of an ending by completing something at the wrong time (like how you could in HK if you progress too far before fighting him the first time)?

If there is something like that, in a way that doesn't spoil the story too much, could you explain what to look out for as to not lock myself out of being able to do them all in one?

Thank you in advance! I'm just trying to get the most out of this playthrough that I can.

I believe you can lock yourself out of the first AND second endings. However, the second ending is much more easily missable. I would say fight the final boss as soon as you get to it, similarly to HK, to lock in the first ending. The second ending involves a specific quest and I don't really think it's talked about much ingame. Spoiler: >!It involves being "cursed"!<Direct spoiler: >!The NPC in Shellwood gives you a parasite as part of a questline. Beat the final boss before getting it removed to get the second ending!<The third ending will probably be pretty obvious how to get it once you unlock hit

rakleine · OP · 25 days ago

Thanks for the tip!! Do you know if there's anything specific that locks you out of the first ending or would it just be the event that activates the second ending that would lock it out? I tend to try and complete everything I possibly can before moving to the next area, so I'm worried I'm going to accidentally screw myself over with that 😅

2 upvotes on reddit
xsad12314gfds · 25 days ago

Activating the third ending is what locks you out of the first ending. However, there is a choice at the end of the fight to select first vs. third ending if you have the criteria for the third. And don't worry, you will PROBABLY know what the trigger for the third ending is. In other words, you get to choose between first vs third ending if you have both available. Spoiler for the fight mechanic: >!When beating the final boss, press "bind" for the first ending and "needolin" for the third ending!<

Edit: Second ending does NOT lock out the first

Edit 2: Apparently the game creates a save after every boss and after every key item. LOL. So 100% don't worry about missing stuff

Edit 3: HOWEVER loading a previous save will overwrite your current, so if you miss one ending you can revert your save after you copy it or 100% the game or whatever

3 upvotes on reddit
PomegranateKindly600 · 25 days ago

There is one ending that is more of an Easter egg/challenge that is easily missable, and I am pretty sure that you cannot do the normal ending after doing the shadesoul equivalent ending. But you can do the normal ending than reload the save to get the true ending

Questions about ending

Posted by Nathator97 · in r/Eldenring · 11 days ago

Hello, I am on the final boss. I know you can continue to play your save if you choose not to start NG+ after beating it, however, I would like to know if I literally get to see the cutscene whatever that may be and still play after that. In other words, is getting rid of your save what prompts the final cutscene? Asking because I would like to see the ending of the game and then continue to play the DLC. I do not want to beat the final boss, play more, and then return to finishing the main game by just watching a cutscene. I’m not entirely sure how to word it because I don’t know anything about what’s after the final boss.

I completed Ranni’s questline so I believe that means I will get the Age of Stars ending. However, when I went to kill the lichdragon Fortisax, I got an item related to Fia’s questline that is for a different ending. Because I have this item, does that mean I will get that ending instead of Ranni’s? If so, how do I get Ranni’s ending again?

Finally, how many endings or ending variations are there? I plan to get the three endings for achievements in the future.

Thank you for your time!

You can choose your ending. The only ending that locks all others is the Lord of Frenzy Flame Ending unless you do extra steps to get rid of that ending.

There are a total number of 6 endings. 3 of them count for the trophies. Age of Stars is Ranni's ending. She will have a blue summon sign on the ground for her ending. The other 3 endings are almost the same ending with very few differences.

1 upvotes on reddit
veritable-truth · 11 days ago

If you've completed Ranni's quest and also have a mending, you can choose what you want to do in the end. Ranni's ending will have a blue summon sign on the ground. The mendings are all tied to Fractured Marika.

There are the three mendings, Ranni's Age of Stars, and the Frenzied Flame ending. Those are the only endings I'm aware of.

After you beat the final boss, you have to manually trigger the cutscenes based on the endings available to you. You have to manually trigger it even if you only have one possible ending to choose.

After watching the ending cutscene, you are presented with the option of starting NG+ (Journey 2) or continuing on with your save.

If you don’t choose NG+ now, you can do the DLC, and start NG+/Journey 2 from the roundtable hold later

I can’t help much with your Fia/Ranni question though

1 upvotes on reddit
AdAny3800 · 11 days ago

You have to touch Marika's body(or what it remained from it) for activating Fia's ending or default game ending. If i'am not mistaken Ranni's ending is activated by the blue summon sign before Marika's body.

Getting an ending does not force you to go to New Game+ or delete your save file, you can continue right where you stopped. The only difference is that you'll no longer be able to access Radagon/Elden Beast's arena to fight them again. If you decide to start a New Game+ later you can do it via the Grace in Roundtable Hold.

The game has 6 endings total, but 4 are pretty much the same thing with minor alterations in the cutscene (and all give the same achievement):

  • Age of Fracture: No special requirements. Pick "Mend the Elden Ring" when interacting with Marika's body.
  • Age of Duskborn: Finish Fia's questline. Pick "Use Mending Rune of the Death-Prince" when interacting with Marika's body.
  • Blessing of Despair: Finish Dung Eater's questline. Pick "Use Mending Rune of the Fell Curse" when interacting with Marika's body.
  • Age of Perfect Order: Finish Goldmask's questline. Pick "Use Mending Rune of Perfect Order" when interacting with Marika's body.

The other 2 endings are more unique:

  • Age of Stars: Complete Ranni's questline. Use Ranni's blue summon sign in the arena instead of interacting with Marika's body.
  • Lord of the Frenzied Flame: Interact with the Three Fingers and have your character become a host for the Frenzied Flame, but be aware this will lock you into this ending unless you use Miquella's Needle to reverse it (and if you reverse it you lock yourself out of this ending on the current playthrough). Pick the only option that appears ("Become the Lord of Frenzied Flame") when interacting with Marika's body.

Either Ranni or Frenzied Flame. The other 4 aren't bad per se, but it's blatant that they had waaaaay less effort put into them despite the non-default ones also being locked behind completing questlines.

Dung eater should've left you something. Fia probably have something on her body too. You should check quest guides.

And you can still meet hyetta in one last place, and you are advisable to meet her last. The most interesting quest.

How to unlock all endings in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

To unlock all endings in "Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree," consider the following key steps:

  1. Complete Main Story Quests: Progress through the main storyline and complete key quests associated with major characters. Each character's questline can influence the ending.

  2. Character-Specific Endings: Pay attention to the choices you make during character interactions. Some endings are tied to specific characters, such as Ranni, Malenia, or others.

  3. Collect Key Items: Certain endings require specific items. For example, you may need to collect items like the Dark Moon Ring or the Fractured Marika's Great Rune to access particular endings.

  4. Multiple Playthroughs: Some endings may require you to make different choices or complete different quests. Consider doing multiple playthroughs or using a save file before critical choices to explore all options.

  5. Follow Guides: Utilize online guides or community resources to track your progress and ensure you don’t miss any crucial steps or items needed for specific endings.

Recommendation: To fully experience all endings, keep a separate save file before major decisions. This way, you can easily revert and explore different outcomes without starting over. Enjoy the journey, as each ending offers unique lore and insights into the game's world!
