TL;DR All base characters in Street Fighter 6 are unlocked from the start. DLC characters require purchase or a season pass.
Base Game Characters
Street Fighter 6 comes with all its base characters already unlocked, meaning you don't need to perform any specific actions or complete tasks to access them [1:2]. This is a departure from previous games like Street Fighter V, where players had to earn Fight Money through gameplay to unlock additional characters
[2:1].
DLC and Additional Content
For any characters released as DLC after the game's initial launch, players will need to purchase them or acquire them through a season pass [1:2]. The game does not allow unlocking of DLC characters through in-game currency or grinding
[1:3].
Cosmetic Unlocks
While character unlocks are straightforward, cosmetics such as alternate costumes and colors can be unlocked by playing the World Tour mode and participating in matches [1:1]. These items require in-game currency, which can be earned through various activities within the game.
Comparison to Previous Games
In previous iterations like Street Fighter V, players could unlock characters using Fight Money by completing story modes, survival modes, and other challenges [3:1]
[5:1]. However, the earning potential for Fight Money has been reduced over time, making it difficult to unlock new characters without spending real money
[2:1]
[5:3].
Recommendations
If you're looking to expand your roster beyond the base characters, consider purchasing the DLC or season pass for additional content. For those interested in cosmetics, engaging in different game modes and earning in-game currency will allow for customization without additional purchases.
Thank you
It comes with all characters unlocked. Any releases afterwards I believe you have to pay for, or for the pass, or get the upgraded versions of the game.
Other than for the garbage in-game currency for cosmetics, there is no reason to get the upgraded or deluxe versions of the game.
You cant unlock dlc characters with in game currency grind?
No
Thank you.
You can also earn the currency to buy the current costumes for all characters by playing world Tour mode, as well as unlocking alternate colors by playing matches.
First, you have to unlock your wallet.
Are there characters that are dlc and locked behind a paywall or are they all unlockable? Edit: thanks for the help, I like grindy games, so I think I'll get this game. Edit edit: Nvm, found out they aren't releasing it on xbox, that sucks
All extra characters are DLC, but you can pay 100000 FM for every extra character unlocking.
The best actual course of action without spending real money to unlock is this:
1- Buy the Arcade Edition with the code with S1 and S2 characters.
2- Grind every character (16 base + 6 S1 + 6 S2 = 28) to level 30, that gives a total of 28 * 30000 FM = 840000 FM. Enough to buy/unlock the entire S3 plus Kage of S4.
3- Optional, you can do the same with the S3 extra characters and Kage... So 7 * 30000 FM = 210000 FM with it's a good start for the next S4.
And after that, save every FM earned to buy futur characters just in case.
I did so far, but I've been playing since Beta.
I only have enough FM for 2 more characters, though.
Since every level up give you 1K fm, and they can go up to lvl 100 (i think ?), every char can pay for himself in theory. But you gain so little XP only when you win, it's basically not achievable. I wonder what is the highest lvl someone could reach in the world.. are lvl 90 characters a thing yet ?
Only in theory (it will take forever).
It used to be possible, but with the recent reduction in Fight Money gain it's becoming increasingly impossible to do. All characters can be unlocked with Fight Money, and if you buy Arcade Edition you could probably unlock most of the ones that are missing from that version, but it'd become very hard to unlock the ones that are going to get added this season.
I just got SFV at a discount on the PSN store, and I still cant figure out how to unlock more characters for my roster. Help!
Fight money > real money I ve unlocked all characters whit real money. I dunno why i appreciate more saves fm asd
Fight money. You need to finish the story and do some daily missions/quest that would appear on your screen.
Else buy it from PS store with real money.
Oh boy
What?
Gotta buy them with either real money or hours of grinding
you get fight money from levelling up characters so just grind all the story mode stuff, tutorials and survival modes. its 100k per character.
Sweet, and congratulations on the plat! 🔥 The last Street Fighter game I played a while ago was the original SF IV (PS3).
Nice congrats, u planning on plating other fighting games
Congrats! I can hold my own in SF, but I have no chance of winning a tournament. Still love the game.
This game has 44 trophies: 26 bronze, 9 silver, 8 gold, and a platinum.
They are of unknown difficulty and take 40 hours to complete.
Price: $39.99

I am a bot. More info about me
I didnt pay for ps plus and wont pay for the dlc and ps plus also i played the whole story but nothing happened i got no money and i dont know how to get it
You can get like 3-4 characters fairly quick through the other modes and leveling. Story doesn't give FM. After like the 4th character it will take a long time. For $25 its worth upgrading to CE
Story mode used to give 200k and weekly missions around 8k, but they reduced weekly missions to like 800 et removed the 200k for the story mode.
By finishing every character mini stories, survival mode easy and survival mode medium, you will receive a total of 18k per character. That's enough to buy 2 characters, after that you do the same thing with the newly unlocked characters and you will be able to buy a 3rd character with what remained from your last earnings.
Rashid is probably one of the best characters and is free.
With the money i suggest you Akuma and Ibuki.
tks sol much my frd
levelup all characters in survival, it'll probably take you a few years
acrually let me change not all but unlock characters wothout payong or buying dlc or playing games online
you need 100k fightmoney to unlock 1 character, you earn FM from leveling up characters and you level up characters by playing online, doing survival, doing trials, doing story mode and cinematic story mode.
survival? you mean arcade?
survival is a different mode from arcade
Does anyone know how or if we have to unlock characters? Will it be with in game currency that we have to earn or will the base roster be unlocked at launch?
Base roster is fully playable from the start. And usually DLC characters need to be purchased.
SFV had an interesting feature where you could actually unlock DLC characters with in-game money. But from my eyes, that was an experimental feature from a time long before the fighting game monetization had been standardized, so I'm not confident that will be back. But it would be cool if I was wrong.
Base roster is unlocked at launch
DLC can be bought individually or with season passes, no word on in-game currency for buying characters.
The chipotle collaboration makes it sound as if character can be bought through ingame currency again.
You can buy characters with the paid in game currency (fighter coins) but not the free in game currency (drive tickets)
Base Roster is unlocked by default.
The ultimate version mentions four extra characters though. Is that soon to come characters or will I have a chance of missing out of zangeif by buying standard?
You will unlock all of them when sf6 ultimate arcade edition comes out for free.
But you'll have to pay $70 for that expansion
We're any of them a real pain to get?
Win 10 fights in tournaments (It is not Win 10 fights in a tournament are cumulative) but the problem that if you go to normal servers you get matched with people with a lot of level, if you can enter "Intermediate" servers and win fights but not the tournament will be super easy.
The achievement of getting 600 likes is very easy every time you finish a fight send "I like it" because you also get it and if you have a friend you can farm between the 2 easily.
That's really impressive. Do you play other fighting games too?
No man, I tried to get all the achievements of MK11 but in the end I find it too heavy
Have you done 5 at all?
No my friend, although I started the "Street Fighter Anniversary Collection".
I'm stuck on winning 10 tournament matches, I'm on gold rank and always paired with what seems to be master or legends mains.
156 hours of playtime and only won once a match, at this rate it's gonna take a long while lol.
The same thing happened to me, at the end I used to go to "Intermediate" servers to face people of my "Level", the bad thing was that I even won a tournament and they blocked my access to those servers...
I literally know nothing about Street fighter at all, never played it in my life. I've only just stopped playing Skullgirls because my laptop broke, so I went out today to buy a 2nd hand copy of SF5 for my PS4.
Controls feel familiar because I sometimes hooked up my dualshock to my pc, but it'll still take getting used to. Anyways, not important.
I was wondering if you could unlock more characters by doing story mode or playing lots of matches or something? Or is it all like, DLC that comes with those, I think they're called season passes?
My playstation can't go online (long story), so i dont know if that'll stop me from being able to get certain stuff, if I'm able to without purchasing DLC that is.
Unfortunately I believe you have to be able to connect to the online store to be able to purchase them, unless you go back and pick up Arcade Edition, which should have S1 & 2 characters.
However I believe all of S3 will be locked from you, and exclusive to online.
Na, the physical copy of arcade edition only included 2 season pass keys which you need to go online to redeem. If he cant go online at all hes not gonna be able to play more than the 16 base characters no matter which version of the game he buys.
If your game cant go online you will be playing the launch version of sfv or the season 2 version if you bought arcade edition and you will always be stuck with the 16 base characters characters... if you cant go online at all i wouldnt advice anyone to buy or play SFV.
Fight money is only earned when logged in to SFV servers iirc.
Also, don't buy the first version of an old fighting game. Get the newest one.
Playing story mode and character stories should get enough to buy two, I think.
If you cant go online, I would say SFV isnt the best game for you. You need to be online to unlock characters and costumes.
I still can’t believe I did it. I’ve been working toward this goal off and on for the last two years. SF6 is my first Street Fighter, and pretty much the first fighting game I’ve taken seriously beyond just casual button mashing. It feels surreal to have finally reached this point. I had so much self doubt along the way, particularly the grind from mid diamond+, but with a ton of support from the FGC and a lot of persistence, I finally pulled it off!
Congrats man! I’m a plat DeeJay rn. SF6 my first fighting game too! Any tips for plat to diamond ?
Trying to remember platinum. I think I recall what sky rocketed me out of platinum was a style of play I had to completely abandon once I got stuck in mid diamond. Basically pure brain dead aggression. I’d force my offense. Once I got to diamond I got blown up for this consistently and had to learn to be more reactive and respect opponents. I’d be curious to see how I’d do in platinum now. I suppose I’ll find out when I try Sagat in August or perhaps Ken in the meantime.
In short I’d say solid offense, snow balling off your knockdowns, understanding oki, good mix, meaties, just good solid offense can take you very far in platinum as people love to press without thinking in that rank.
As you rank up you’ll need to actually start conditioning people, or find a habit to catch them off guard with snow balling your offense, but in platinum MOST people will just fall victim to flow chart offense.
Not OP but here’s my advice. Learn one oki set up off of one of your characters knock downs. Then add others when you’re comfortable with that one. I find that plat players tend to not capitalize on knock downs as much as diamonds and will tend to mash on meaty your oki set ups (be careful of wake up reversals and CAs though). Frame traps are also really good for people in plat who can’t stop mashing.
I know, I know, I'm a bot. but I want to say congrats anyway! These threads are always a cheerful part of the subreddit, but I hope I can ask for even more! The two things that always go great are a highlight reel of your gameplay (you can ask for advice or ask for no advice) and a story of your journey, with valuable tips, advice or something unique about your Rank Up experience. Just edit either of those into your rank up post or as a comment underneath, the subreddit will love it! Unfortunately without these extras, we might come by and remove your thread per our spam rule but you can message us here and we will reinstate it once the added content is edited in. congrats! im currently stuck at silver, any general tips you can give?
Going to add some tips. Work on counter DI. You will see random DI through all ranks, including lower MR. Throw out quick and cancelable normals and brace yourself for the DI.
You will see it and that’s when you counter. From here, work on a solid combo after counter DI — preferably something that can cancel into level 3 for later rounds.
Lastly, work on anti aids. Don’t let people jump on you for free. This one will take a lot of practice but it’s very valuable.
In summary: work on counter DI, get a solid combo that can cancel into level 3, and anti air.
This will honestly carry you well past gold.
You can climb out of silver by purely working on anti air imo! If enemy is outside of longest range normal, switch mental stack to anti air.
i feel like my weakness is the corner pressure as i found myself thinking of a lot of possible things especially di but when DI came out, i dont react from mental pressure
Congrats dude, now get to high master !
Per the Bot's request here's some more info about my journey! I started playing sf6 because some friends learned I liked fighting games. I really only played them casually and almost never online because for the longest time netcode was just terrible in them. I had no idea what oki, frame data, etc was. It was all foreign to me. I did play tekken 7 very casually and the hype around Akuma coming out prompted me to check out the character as I wanted to know why he was such a big deal. I watched some lore videos and he just looked cool. My friends told me Akuma was coming to sf6 as a DLC character so I got the game and started as Ryu. While my journey may have been much easier if I stuck with Ryu or my other character Zangief, Akuma was just too cool. I played much worse with him than I did with my other two characters for a very long time but I was determined. I was struggling with the lower health, the stance dependant combos (enemy crouching vs standing) etc. I wasn't able to utlize his extra tools enough to offset his lower HP and as a result I performed terribly for a long time. My efforts eventually paid off. Looking back it may of been better to try and get master with Ryu first then switch to Akuma but I have no regrets. I'm eying Ken or Sagat next!
Also, here's one of my recent hype plays.
Here's my hitbox with a custom art commision!
