TL;DR
To unlock a flying broom in Hogwarts Legacy, you need to complete the Flying Class, which becomes available after completing the main quest "Jackdaw's Rest" [1:1].
Progressing Through Main Quests
The key to unlocking the broom is progressing through the main storyline. Players have reported that focusing on main quests will eventually lead to the Flying Class where you learn to fly [1:2]. Some players have unlocked their broom around 10 to 15 hours into the game, depending on how much they explore or engage in side quests
[1:3]
[3:3].
Quest Requirements
Before you can purchase a broom, you must complete the quest where you learn to fly. This involves attending the Flying Class as part of the main story progression [2:2]. If you're unable to purchase a broom, ensure you've completed all necessary prerequisites and try advancing other quests
[2:3]
[2:4].
Flying Restrictions
Once you have a broom, there are certain areas where flying is restricted. For example, you cannot fly within Hogwarts or Hogsmeade due to no-fly zones indicated by a red circle with a line through it [4:1]
[4:5]. However, you can fly over the castle by going outside to one of the main courtyards
[4:2].
Gameplay Experience
Some players feel that the broom should be introduced earlier in the game, as it significantly changes the exploration dynamic [3:1]
[3:4]. While waiting for the broom, using the Floo fast travel system can help navigate the map efficiently
[3:1].
Lol I just barely met the painting of Perceval for the first time. Can you give me a general idea when I can start flying the skies? TIA!
!Keep doing main quests, eventually you'll be tasked with going to flying class.!<
Didn’t get mine until almost 15hrs, Just have fun exploring bud. I am rushing main quest a little right now just to get more spells, but then I’ll go back to slow & steady.
After one of the main story chunks. I won’t say more as to not spoil the game but it’s coming
Thanks guys :3
After completing Flying Class you can buy your own broom. You unlock Flying Class by completing Jackdaw's Rest. I got it by 10 hours easily but you are probably doing more exploring than I did.
You might be too early in the game. You need to complete the quest where you learn to fly first.
I already did that. I unlocked the quest when it sends you to purchase the broom.
Some quest hav pre requirements before you can fully finish them. I think they might at in the quests tab what you need first. Maybe you Havnt gotten a spell or something that you need to finish the quest.
Try doing another quest, then come back to this one
Lol, dudes gonna restart at the very beginning so many times with this attitude. Just do a different quest first lol, the option will come up after…
Get closer to him maybe? Leave, come back. Load a previously saved game. Etc…
I really just want to get to the point in the game where I can fly around, I’m about 2 hours in, just did hogsmead and got my wand, broom anytime soon? If/when they make a second game, I hope the broom is earlier cause I’m having a hard time getting through it early with no broom access
And here I thought they introduced it too soon, you barely have to explore the map before you get it and it drastically collapses the map.
I agree, you can just fly high from nearest flu point to the quest location, I try and land inhalers and then unlock more flus almost takes the adventure out of it, would be cool if you could get in broomstick wand battles.
Absolutely. Need to be able to fly by and snipe some enemies.
It took me 12 hours to get but I did loads of side quests and spent a few hours just wandering about doing revelio and a few more hours levelling up killing stuff in forbidden forest. if you just stuck to main quest with a bit of distraction I imagine you would get there in 3-4 hours.
I walk everywhere never use floos
Stick to main Quest. But if it took you this long probably it'll take you as much
The broom isn’t that much farther into the story IIRC. Just keep doing main quests. I never felt the need for a broom before I got one. I just used the Floo fast travel system.
I have completed the fly test and bought a broom from sporting goods but its not letting me fly on the broom anywhere, tried looking up on YouTube but to no help. I was so excited about flying a broom over the castle and haven't been able to.
As others said, it means you can’t fly there - but you can fly over the castle! Just go outside to one of the main courtyards (the flying class floo flame is a good spot) and you’ll be able to mount your broom. You can land in a few spots within the castle grounds too, like the gardens near the viaduct entrance. Have fun!
There are some places you aren't allowed to fly for example Hogsmeade. Get out of the village, if you leave the bridge that lets you into Hogsmeade, you can fly.
Unfortunately with how smooth the gameplay is, it made it difficult to separate the outside from the inside of the castle as a result they couldn't make a proper fly zone that goes above the castle as it would give you the ability to fly during certain quests that you shouldn't be flying for.
It means you can't fly. There are certain areas like hogsmade where you cant fly.
Hey! I’ll assume the symbol you are referring to is the red circle with the line going through it. This indicates a no fly zone. I’m relatively new to the game but you won’t be able to fly your broom inside of Hogwarts or over Hogsmeade as a couple of examples. Try leaving the castle and you should be able to mount the broom by holding LB then clicking B, if your button mapping is the standard one on Xbox.
Finished yesterday and while I loved the game, there were some things that are just weird for me.
Am I the only one who remembered broomsticks exist? I fly around on my broom while everyone else seems committed to leg day or just vanishes into thin air. Except Ismelda if course, who’s out there aggressively levitating like her life depends on it.
Why can’t I have friends who just hang out? Poppy, Natty, and Sebastian only show up when something traumatic is happening. I want to picnic, not prevent another dark ritual. Where’s the “go for a butterbeer and chill” option?
Why can’t I sit down? There are literally hundreds of cozy-looking benches, stools, and ledges and I can’t sit on any of them. But no, must keep standing forever.
How did I pass my OWLs/ZAGs? I attended each class exactly once, spent the rest of the year in caves, and somehow aced everything.
Why is nobody mad that I keep breaking into their homes? I blast open doors with Alohomora Level III, ransack every cupboard and not one NPC cares. Not even a passive-aggressive “Can I help you?”
Why are my friends and teachers totally chill with me using Avada Kedavra? I just straight-up vaporize dark wizards in front of Poppy and she’s like “Good job!”. Meanwhile Professor Fig sees me cast the most illegal curse ever and just nods approvingly.
Why does everyone have only one line of dialogue and insist on using it forever? I walk into Hogsmeade and immediately hear: “All roads lead to Hogsmeade!” Cool. I’m in Hogsmeade. You can stop now. Also shoutout to: “Handy resource, indeed, your Field Guide.”
Why do I have so much money with nothing to spend it on? I loot every dungeon, steal from every chest and somehow end up quite rich for a student. But can I buy a comfy bed for the room of requirements or a Zonko’s prank item? Nope.
Why does almost no one ever talk to me unless they’re giving me a task? I save your brother, rescue your beast, clear your cursed family tomb and after that? Silence. Cold shoulder. Not even a “hey, how’ve you been?”
Why do I basically become a ghost after the main story ends? No one reacts. Just me silently doing side quests forever and wandering through a world where everyone ignores me.
underage students Disapparating. did they change the law or was it legal for fifteen year olds to do so back then?
there are Iron Maidens EVERYWHERE. like the devs just slapped it as a recurring object and it is EXCESSIVE (for those who don’t know this is a medieval torture device). this one bothers me the most while im playing lol they’re just casually everywhere
why are 90% of the side quests spider cave related???? again this seemed lazy to me like the Iron Maidens everywhere
why did I have to leave Tobbs’ body :’(
I didn’t like being forced to fight uncle Solomon. I was on his side. Sebastian is a dumb manipulative twat.
the biggest gripe of all. Isadora wants to take pain from people. Finds a way to do it! Hogwarts teachers are all like noooo instead of saying oh my god you’re a genius let us help you with this and perfect the magic and we can help more people! it was such a sloppy plot line to me!?
I hated the fact that I had to leave Tobbs in the cave, I felt so bad for him and Deek. They were friends, and we just left him. I wish we could have done a funeral for him or something for Deek to say goodbye.
Yeah, especially given all the other shit we do for random citizens in the region. You’re telling me I don’t have room in my limitless bag for a small dead elf so I can bring him back to his grieving friend? Just gonna leave him there? 😡
A spoiler alert would have been nice 😂
Why is the forbidden forest forbidden but there is a path and a sign right at the front door?
Why doesn’t any of the students sleep? Nobody even lies around in the bedrooms. Let me be a lazy POS
Why did the devs spend so much time and energy making Hogwarts castle just to shove us out not even halfway through the game?
Why talk about animagus so much if I can’t be taught how to do it?!
Why doesn’t Hogwarts have any secret tunnels?
Why is flying on the broom (including the mini games) the least fun thing ever?
Why has nobody discovered the Merlin trials before us?
Werewolves?! Why aren’t they in the game?
The witches passage is a secret tunnel in Hogwarts
Why are some of the NPCs concerned about me doing dangerous things and want to either steer clear of an area or get me to safety...meanwhile the teachers are like:
-Use these dangerous plants on...someone. Great, now you can have these plants poison or eat someone alive.
-Use this offense spell on...someone. Great, now you can cut, burn, blast, freeze and move people against their will.
-Drink these potions...for reasons. Great, now you can't be damaged much and you can deal out more damage to others....dont worry about that...for now.
Professor Ronen is the only Professor who gives you a spell and is like. "I want you to bring me two pieces of paper I have fluttering around nearby. Great! We'll done, here's a spell to fix things." The only child friendly professor...and I love that he's the Head of Slytherin.
This is purely based on my own speculation and experience and absolutely nothing else, but I think the answer might be that this an incomplete game. I got the sense it was intended to be a much bigger game with much more to do, but possibly had a lot of content cut or left out for whatever reason. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and had a ton of fun playing it, but I can't help but feel like they perhaps had Breath of the Wild or Skyrim level ambitions but couldn't logistically pull it off for one reason or another (I'm guessing budget/deadlines/etc).
I think you're right. A lot of people dont realize the vast resources that go into a AAA game. It took hundreds of developers at Avalanche 5 years and 150 million usd. HL got a lot of things right, such as combat, exploration, tone and style, and the mind-blowing attention to detail recreating the castle and grounds from the WB IP. Avalanche had to prioritize, and if they focused on what they felt would give the game the most bang for the buck and WB wanted the biggest ROI possible.
This fan base never had such amazing fan service in an adaptation, and I think HL is great for the IP and great for the industry. It shows the greedy publishers what happens when you invest in a high-quality adaptation that's loyal to the source material and to the fans that built the franchise.
It's a well known game so no new revelations. Good time especially if you're a fan of the books or movies. Great job designing the wand combat and integrating herbology. Broom flying is nice af I end up skipping fast travel just to do that.
Hogwarts is well designed and is fun to explore. There are a ton of collectibles to find but subjectively they were easy for me as I spent most of my playtime exploring the world.
Story is a bit meh and the actor face capture is not the best. There are also some trophies which you need to track manually like the one that needs you to hit every type of enemy with the ultimate and one for collectible chests.
Tip: if you're a pottermore/wizarding world user you can connect accounts to migrate your house and wand.
Congratulations on the plat! 😁 This may be the first Harry Potter game I’ll get.
Thanks. It's a blast highly recommended.
This game has 46 trophies: 28 bronze, 15 silver, 2 gold, and a platinum.
They are easy (3/10) and take 60 - 80 hours to complete.
Price: $59.99

Sorry if this has been asked previously. In Hogwary Legacy on this play through I'm trying to collect all the Brooms. Are they only for sale at some vendors? And is there any difference with the in the use/ability/speed? Thanks
Broom designs are just cosmetic. You buy some from vendors and some are from challenges. The only way to improve broom speed is through the quests and time trials.
There are also DLC brooms
Yeah but I'm pretty sure those are auto unlocked when you get the broom
yes, certain models can only bought at certain travelling vendors. all brooms have the same stats, as buying a new broom model just means unlocking a cosmetic appearance. Broom stats are upgraded via Albie Weekes's shop in Hogsmeade (he'll let you know the conditions for upgrading them)

Gotta check out all the small vendors all over the maps. They sell different ones
And you unlock some of the cosmetics through popping balloons
I understand that complaining about broom controls has been done to death.
HOWEVER.
I'm stuck on the second trial, with the broom upgraded once (as intended), and CANNOT pass it.
Here's my confusion though: when I watch Youtubers do it, they all have like 2:22 or somewhere around there as the time to beat. For me, it is 1:55 and even with hitting every ring and yellow bubble, and not even using A/D on the keyboard and getting too squirrely, I can only get near 2:00 TOPS.
Does anyone know what's up with that? I tried changing the game difficulty, and am about to install a mod that remaps mouse controls that I've seen recommended. I haven't tried using my Xbox controller yet. I'm in high gear (hitting SHIFT to get into sprint mode) and holding down the boost button the whole flight.
WTF.
I got 1.57 best, truth is you need to continue story until you unlock second and third broom upgrades, then you get faster
2nd broom upgrade will be after 2nd or 3rd trial
Looks like you have to finish a specific Sebastian quest for the broom guy to reach out.
Maybe my post wasn't clear, I have one upgrade already. This is the 2nd trial.
I'm just confused as to why there's so many Reddits full of people saying that they either have 1:55 to beat or 2:22 to beat. I'm hoping its something simple I've overlooked.
2.22 is the time you need to beat quest, 1.55 is track time, idk if it contributes to anything, and by trials I ment the main story, it will unlock another side quest with mr weebs
SOLVED.
From the internets: "It sounds like a bug, but the solution is straightforward. To get Broom Upgrade 2 in Hogwarts Legacy, you must complete the "In the Shadow of Mine" mission that's part of the main quest. That's when Broom Upgrade 2 will be unlocked."
I also downloaded this mod, which is a game-changer for flying.
Hello,
Hopefully someone can help me and my friend. We both logged in today, claimed the lavender borealis broom... and it's not in our inventories. Two of my other friends logged in today and the broom is in their inventory.
Context:
We both have purchased brooms (I have upgraded my broom 1 time)
I have been to the broom shop, it is not available for purchase (according to most reliable sources, this broom is not available in the shop anyway, it's supposed to be in the inventory)
Is the broom glitched for random people?
Edit to add:
I am referring to the Lavender Borealis Broom, NOT the Dark Arts Dark Lightning Broom purchasable at Hogsmeade following the Haunted In Hogsmeade quest.
It's in the shop. You have to skip time for a few days for it to show up.
The Lavender Borialis broom is granted as an unlock at the character select screen. The new one in the shop is the Dark Lightning, which is similar (physically anyway).
Are you thinking of the Dark Arts Broom or the Lavender Borealis Broom?
Hmm, I'm running on Steam with several mods installed and the broom showed up just fine. I started a totally new character for the June update, though. Are you continuing from a saved game from last year? Did your two other friends (who got the broom) started from a totally new character?
it's a mix... my friend and I who don't have the items were playing on old save files; one of the friends who got it was on a new save file, the other was not.
I'd say, starting from a clean save file will probably work best. I mean, even if you somehow got the broom, there are still other new items missing from your inventory. If it were me, I'd want to have all of those when playing this year.

What are you playing on? And do yoh see the other update items in your inventory?
I am on PC (steam); None of the new items are showing up:
And here's the broom, also not there
If you have mods, the mods are blocking it. There's a new mod that helps so you can get access to the new stuff
You're in a queue for the Quidditch-story TLSQ, it will pop-up on it's own, just have to wait for it.
Sweet, thanks!
And don't progress in the main story. Your Quidditch Story will continue with a TLSQ, and that will only trigger after you have no more of the normal ones in your queue.
