How to Use Talismans in Elden Ring

TL;DR Equip talismans in the equipment menu under your armor slots. They provide passive effects when equipped and do not require activation.

Equipping Talismans

Talismans in Elden Ring function similarly to rings in other FromSoftware games like Dark Souls. To equip a talisman, navigate to the equipment menu where you will find talisman slots located beneath your armor slots [1:2], [2:2]. Select an empty talisman slot, choose the talisman you want to equip, and confirm your selection [2:1]. Initially, you can equip one talisman, but as you progress through the game and defeat major bosses, you gain additional talisman pouches that increase your capacity [1:7], [5:6].

Passive Effects

Once equipped, talismans provide passive effects that are automatically active without any need for further action [1:8], [4:5]. These effects can range from boosting attack power or defense to enhancing specific abilities or resistances. The talismans work continuously as long as they remain equipped [1:11], [5:3].

Choosing Talismans

Selecting the right talismans depends on your playstyle and build. For example, Erdtree's Favor increases HP, stamina, and equip load, making it versatile for most builds [3:2]. Other talismans like the Claw Talisman boost jump attacks, while the Fire Scorpion Charm enhances fire damage [3:2]. It's beneficial to mix offensive and defensive talismans based on your current challenges in the game [3:1], [3:3].

Understanding Talisman Pouches

Talisman pouches are items that expand your capacity to equip more talismans. Unlike talismans themselves, pouches do not need to be manually equipped; they automatically grant additional slots upon acquisition [5:1], [5:4]. This allows players to customize their character with multiple passive bonuses as they progress through the game.

In summary, talismans in Elden Ring are essential tools that enhance your character's abilities through passive effects. Equip them wisely to complement your build and adapt to different challenges throughout your journey.

The talisman slots are right under your armor slots. Just equip them like you would anything else.

At first you can only equip one, you get 3 extra talisman pouches/slots throughout the game.

Confused Using Talismans

I have a couple of talismans now and a pouch. But am unclear on how you actually 'equip' them. There is no mechanic that I can figure out, or are they passively equipped by default and the Pouch is simply the repository?

Alright so i’m still fairly new to elden ring and i’m trying to figure out the talismans. I have no idea what i’m doing, right now i have the Erdtree’s favour, Claw talisman, Fire scorpion charm and Ritual sword talisman. I’m playing with Vyke’s warspear

I just have no idea what talismans are good, which ones don’t do much or the locations. I get that talismans are just essential perks that you can equip that do different things but thats all i got

Erdtree favor is good for most of the game, claw boosts jump attacks, fire scorpion boosts fire damage, and ritual sword boosts attack power by 10% at max health. I would say go for erdtree favor, claw, and sword talisman, but don't use sword unless you have 3 or more slots.

Try to focus on survivability and damage when equipping talismans. Depending on where you’re currently at in the game, the talismans you have now are fine.

2 upvotes on reddit
Chegg_F · 2 months ago

The only bad talisman I'm aware of makes it really clear it's a bad talisman. You currently have really good talismans equipped, although the fire scorpion charm is more for casting pyromancies or something, not split damage weapons like Vyke's spear.

Browse the wiki's page on Talismans and you can find any that sound useful to you.

Not every slot needs to be a talisman that buffs your damage. There's plenty of useful defensive and utility talismans to choose from too that can be even more useful.

Equip Talisman and Talisman Pouches?

Posted by euge224 · in r/Eldenring · 3 years ago

I'm stumped on this. I'm new to the Souls genre and I cannot find out online how to equip Talismans and their pouches. I have a pouch in my inventory, but I cannot equip/use it. The Use is greyed out, I'm not finding any option to edit my Talisman slots anywhere. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I'm hoping this will serve as a good search query for others in case this helps anyone else who might be as blind as I am. Being new to this game is a bit overwhelming and I'm still taking in the environment/mechanics

Talismans are already have slots on your equipment screen. The pouches are used automatically upon gaining them, like memory stones

For the pouch, it automatically gives you an extra spot to equip your talisman, to do so just go to where you would usually equip your armour/weapons

How Do You Use Talismans? And Follow Up Regarding Leveling Your Gear

Posted by Spirited_Material · in r/runefactory · 3 months ago

Hi. I'm sort of ashamed it's taken me this long and I still can't figure it out, but I still can't figure out how to use my Talisman or what all of all of the instructions say "equip the Talisman as your second weapon". So I replaced it with my bow as my second weapon.

And then went I went to smoke some Cluckadoodles, I hit the same button to use my bow (ZL) and nothing happened. I then proceeded to hit a bunch of other random buttons while my party members bravely went ahead of me and killed the monsters, and nothing happened. All of the guides on the Internet just say to equip it as your second weapon. I'm on the Switch, if that helps.

Which brings me to my next question. With Long Swords, and duel swords, if you use that as your primary weapon it replaces your short sword? I haven't used long swords yet. To be very honest I've done a little upgrading of my short sword, but I've mostly been tanking the fights. Blade shards were hard to find so I got sidetracked decorating villages and harvesting crops.

Have you spent a lot of time upgrading your party's weapons and giving them extra items for defense? That was my initial thought, but with having a hard time getting blade shards, as well as changing people out to level them, I worried about wasting resources.

Thank you!

Talismans use the same attack buttons as swords, not bows. Also, there isn't even really a need to upgrade any weapons. I beat the entire game, post game included, just by crafting and not upgrading weapons

Also, you can equip any weapons as primary or secondary. So if you want 2 swords, you can have it

In my experience you give it to Ikaruga and watch him blow enemies up. I keep one of each element and give him the appropriate one for a boss fight, then just let him go. 😆

Especially once you hit the second half of the game, you'll be getting new weapons faster than you can upgrade the old ones. For party gear, I just gave party members hand-me-downs.

> And then went I went to smoke some Cluckadoodles, I hit the same button to use my bow (ZL) and nothing happened.

Your problem seems to be switching to your second weapon, not using Talismans. Bows are unique in that you can use their aimed attacks (the ZL attack) while using your other weapon.

This is a unique feature of the bow, not of the slot you equipped it to. You can absolutely put a bow in your first slot and swords in your second slot... or equip swords or bows in both slots.

What the two slots allow you to do is swap between your two equipped weapons. You do this by hitting the left button on your D-Pad.

The reasoning behind putting Talismans in your second slot is so you have a melee weapon (short sword, long sword, or dual blades) in one slot and a ranged weapon (bow or talisman) in the other... which is a bit more useful than two melee weapons or two ranged weapons.

5 upvotes on reddit
Draconics5411 · 3 months ago

> With Long Swords, and duel swords, if you use that as your primary weapon it replaces your short sword?

Correct. Unless you put ot in your second slot, in which case it replaces your bow.

> Have you spent a lot of time upgrading your party's weapons and giving them extra items for defense? That was my initial thought, but with having a hard time getting blade shards, as well as changing people out to level them, I worried about wasting resources.

I never invested anything into my party. I would frequently replace my own equipment, and sometimes give the old stuff to my party. I found trying to keep everyone's gear up to be far too expensive.

I also never bothered using the upgrade feature on my gear- simply crafting stronger recipes instead

Regarding the long sword, just try it out. I happen to prefer faster weapons, but it’s really just your preference.

My party gets whatever I’m not using, so there’s no real loss.

The axe talisman will give you more attack on your charged heavies. Godfrey icon gives you more attack on charged spells and skills, jar shard gives more attack on skills, no idea what the other one is. If the weapon art is able to be charged up, you have 1 talisman boosting a certain attack and 2 boosting ash of war skill.

2 upvotes on reddit
ApexHawke · 1 year ago

Apparently, the skill is coded so the projectiles benefit from godfrey and alexander, but the axe talisman only buffs the "swing", if it connects.

2 upvotes on reddit
RLToughGuy · 1 year ago

Unrelated: I love "talismen" as plural for talisman. Gonna start using it for fun.

1 upvotes on reddit
Aszach01 · 1 year ago

Yes, because all three talismans stack: Godfrey Icon, Alexander's Shard, and the Axe Talisman. Try using charged skills or spells such as Bolt of Gransax (skill), Comet (spell), or O Flame! (incantation). These are just examples; you can use Fextralife to check the list of any skills or spells that can be charged.

If you also have Alexander's Shard, it will stack with Godfrey Icon, providing a 15% damage boost, while the Axe Talisman will add 10% to your overall damage.

This won't show up in your stats because you need to perform actual charged attacks to see the difference.

AI Answer

🤖

how to use talismans in elden ring

Using Talismans in Elden Ring: Key Considerations

  1. Understanding Talismans:

    • Talismans provide various buffs and enhancements, such as increased damage, improved defenses, or unique abilities.
    • Each talisman has specific effects, so choose ones that complement your build and playstyle.
  2. Equipping Talismans:

    • You can equip talismans in your inventory menu. Access the menu, navigate to the talisman slot, and select the talismans you want to equip.
    • You can equip up to four talismans at a time, so choose wisely based on your current needs.
  3. Finding Talismans:

    • Talismans are scattered throughout the game world. Explore dungeons, defeat bosses, and complete quests to find them.
    • Some notable talismans include the Erdtree’s Favor (increases HP, stamina, and equip load) and the Ritual Shield Talisman (boosts guard effectiveness).
  4. Combining Effects:

    • Consider how talismans interact with your weapons and spells. For example, if you use a lot of magic, talismans that boost spell damage can be very beneficial.
    • Experiment with different combinations to find synergies that enhance your overall effectiveness in combat.
  5. Upgrading Talismans:

    • Some talismans can be upgraded at specific locations, enhancing their effects. Look for upgrade materials and visit the appropriate NPCs to improve your talismans.

Recommendation: Focus on talismans that align with your character build. For example, if you’re a melee fighter, consider the Radagon's Scarseal for increased attributes or the Green Turtle Talisman for faster stamina recovery. If you're a spellcaster, the Magic Scorpion Charm can boost your sorcery damage significantly. Tailor your talisman selection to your playstyle for the best results!
