M3 Chip Release Date and Specs

Release Date Speculation

While there is no official release date for the M3 chip mentioned in the discussions, there are some hints about future releases. One user speculated that the M3 Pro might be available soon, as they were considering trading in their current device for one [4:4]. However, another user suggested waiting for the M5s to be released, indicating that the M3 might already be on the market or expected soon [4:1].

Performance and Specifications

The M3 chip is discussed in terms of its gaming performance compared to other models like the M4. Users have mixed opinions on whether upgrading to an M3 Pro is worth it. Some believe that the M3 Pro offers better GPU performance due to more cores [4:3], while others argue that the M4's GPU cores are superior despite having fewer cores [4:6]. The M3 Pro is said to come with 18GB of RAM, which could influence its performance in gaming scenarios [4:2].

Comparison with Other Chips

There is a general consensus that the M4 chip provides better gaming performance than the M3. Users noted that the M4 has less stuttering and better frame generation, making it a preferable choice for gaming [4:8]. Additionally, the M4 Pro model with 14 CPU and 20 GPU cores was recommended for those seeking better FPS headroom [4:9].

Upgrade Considerations

For those considering an upgrade, several users advised against moving from an M3 to an M3 Pro due to the minimal performance gains relative to the cost [4:4][4:7]. Instead, saving up for an M4 Pro was suggested as a more worthwhile investment [4:7]. Budget considerations and gaming preferences should also be taken into account when deciding between these chips [4:5].

We all know RCF thus far has had outstanding success with their Day Date line ups from Platinum, Rose Gold and Gold weighted options. There playing and craftsmen ship have thus far surpassed anyone who has attempted to be in the Day Date game and those even offering anything near correct color and plating.

All this being known I am very interested in seeing if these other products they have available will hold the same exact quality for gold plating and color, which versions will offer weighted (anything gold or platinum obviously) would hope they would be offered plated and weighted.

These are very awesome times we are traveling through within the watch world at the moment. Ride the wave of change and hope for more excellent things to come into fruition.

It is becoming closer then we all think to CNY and when this happens watch factories and workers are first to close shop and last to reopen. Make sure you are not dragging your feet to get the things you were after before they go on their holiday.

I have my fingers crossed about it I truly do. They are not cross posting as a clean take over they are coming in on good terms from a Solid DD (Day Date) build. If they bring the same energy on these line ups they will easily slide right in with the top factories with out a doubt.

I mean, it seems like this year or in Q1 of next year because there's no way they have an official model, a figure IN hand and are going to just throw it away for SSJ4.

this figure isn't coming out anytime soon. They never intended to release this once tonsen revealed their release date. once both A and B came out, DF Scrapped it Because of backlash and Based on the low revenue It was gonna get. By the way the Base hair and the Flowing hair were never meant for the final release. they were renders. Weren't even Printed at the time and the only accessory that got to the prototype stage was the Light Effect. And that was also the only accessory that was ever going to be included.

M3 Pro chip vs M4 Base chip for gaming

Posted by AnOldBrownie007 · in r/macgaming · 14 days ago

So, I've had my base Macbook Pro for about 5 months now. Love it. But I'm thinking about trading it into Best Buy for an 18 core GPU M3 Pro chip. I'm assuming that for gaming, the additional cores would make a difference gaming.

Should I do it? The M3 is on sale for $1599 and I get $900 trade in value.

Not worth for $700 imo, assuming M3 Pro comes with 18GB of RAM. The one you should consider upgrading is the M4 Pro 24GB 12CPU/16GPU model.

4 upvotes on reddit
heavyblacklines · 14 days ago

I would counter that with the M4 Pro 14CPU/20GPU model. Gaming drinks GPU, the additional cores make a big difference in FPS headroom.

AnOldBrownie007 · OP · 14 days ago

So...makes sense for me to wait until the M5s release, then trade my base M4 for the 20gpu core model. I won't get much trade in value...but I want the GPU improvements

QuickQuirk · 13 days ago

It will be better, but not as much as you'd expect. The M4 GPU had a nice performance uptick over the m3. So you get more cores, but they're not as good.

I'd not personally do that upgrade.

0 upvotes on reddit
rfomlover · 14 days ago

I would absolutely not do that. I had an M3 Pro for a little over a year and it was very underwhelming in gaming. Traded for an M4 Max and it was night and day. You’d lose like $700 just on your trade. I’d not do that or get an M4 Pro at least.

5 upvotes on reddit
Q
QuickQuirk · 13 days ago

It's a bit of a sidegrade. You get more cores, but the m4 base GPU cores are better. Yes, it will be faster in most cases, but it won't be transformational.

What's your budget? What type of games do you really want to play? Is $600 the limit?

If you don't have a console, consider a playstation 5 pro - It plays fps and action games phenomenally well, and has an awesome library of PS4 and PS5 games.

If you prefer the western RPGs and strategy games that don't make it to console as much, those tend to play well enough on the base m4 anyway.

If you don't want a console, then consider upping your budget to the m4 pro or base m4 max. OR wait to see what the m5 brings us in 6 months or so. It might be a nice uplift in the same budget.

1 upvotes on reddit
M
miggyyusay · 13 days ago

I faced this dilemma and just went for a 1 cycle count barely used M4 Pro, adding $400 when I swapped with the seller.

The base M3 Pro is the same price as a base M4, so $700 extra for a slight spec bump is not worth it.

Save up to get the M4 Pro.

Intel -> Apple M chip upgrade - is it worth it?

Posted by mysteryzero1 · in r/macbookpro · 2 months ago

Hey all,

I currently a 15” MacBook Pro I got in 2019 (i9, 16gb/512gb) and it’s been great until the last year or so and it seems the battery has truly worn out for good. I’ve found an offer for £900 a MacBook Pro, 18GB/512GB and it has the ‘M3 Pro’ chip inside of it. Is that a worthy upgrade to my current MacBook? Sorry if this questions been asked many times but I’m just quite unfamiliar with the new MacBooks and was under the impression that M3 was comparable to Intel i3, but my younger brother was telling me it’s ‘a lot better’. Debating whether it’s best to just buy a new battery for my current MacBook or invest in this one. Thank you!

How are the thermals of the new MacBooks? My only ever gripe i had with my intel Mac was that multitasking got the laptop quite hot around the Touch Bar, and the fans would boot up for what I considered rather basic things like streaming music and video, or having multiple work tabs open

How are the thermals of the new MacBooks? My only ever gripe i had with my intel Mac was that multitasking got the laptop quite hot around the Touch Bar,

One reason Apple switched away from Intel were exactly the thermals. Intel CPUs were consuming too much power, which drained the battery too quickly, and generated too much heat, which led to both thermal throttling and fan noise.

Ever since Apple started releasing Apple Silicon laptops, that problem is completely solved. I mean completely. Apple Silicon chips are well documented to have higher performance per watt efficiency than Intel, so they use less power for the same performance, for longer battery life and cooler running. Apple Silicon efficiency is the reason that it was practical for Apple to totally remove the fan from the MacBook Air. It could get a lot of work done before thermal throttling. (If you need your laptop to work harder than that and not thermal throttle, that is why you get a MacBook Pro, it has one or two cooling fans depending on the level and so it rarely has to thermal throttle.)

>and the fans would boot up for what I considered rather basic things like streaming music and video, or having multiple work tabs open

With Apple Silicon those activities will literally never cause the fans to spin up. On Apple Silicon, they use too little power to generate much heat.

Thermals are better on the 16in than the 14in, but the 14in Apple Silicon is better than any Intel.

You might see some CPU throttling on long running processes (e.g. video encoding) on the 14in, but it’s still going to be way faster than the Intel… and quieter. (I have a 14in M1 Max).

Apple had a BIG breakthrough with the M chips and made Intel look like amateurs when talking about efficiency(battery life, thermals) and RAM efficiency. Of course, it has some downsides: low FPS in games, some apps written for x86 would not work, etc. Intel made the greatest mistake by refusing to manufacture the M chips.

Historically at least there's been been benefits to keeping old chip nodes churning out chips. They tend to continue improving in yield and it helps amortize the R&D costs. There's always going to be another buyer, but that's not to say Apple couldn't save serious money by keeping the M1-4 printers on.

If those are your only options, get the M3 with 32GB of RAM. You say you have to cool the machine down, so is there any chance the company can spring a bit more money for a MBP for the fan cooling?

The speed difference between M3 and M4 in our workload will be barely noticeable, maybe a couple of seconds here and there, but when your computer starts slowing down due to RAM usage you will be wishing you had the extra..

In saying that, one of my machines is an M4 Mac Mini with 16GB of RAM and I can develop perfectly fine in my normal workflow. You just can’t have everything open all of the time and expect peak performance.

As a side note, having a CI/CD should be a key priority for the business. If cost is a factor, they can self host a GitHub/bitbucket/Jenkins/etc runner with a base m4 Mac mini. It’ll be a one off cost for hardware plus the cost of your time setting it up and a bit of maintenance here and there.
