TL;DR
Lexus: The Benchmark of Reliability
Lexus is frequently mentioned as the most reliable luxury car brand. Many users highlight its minimal maintenance issues compared to other luxury brands, attributing this to its Toyota heritage [1:2],
[2:4],
[3:1]. A user shared that their Lexus RX450h required only annual maintenance and had no problems, making it a preferred choice over BMWs
[3:4]. Another comment emphasized that while Lexus vehicles might still be expensive to maintain, they are less likely to have random issues compared to their German counterparts
[3:2].
Porsche: High Maintenance but Reliable
Porsche is another brand that receives praise for reliability. Although maintenance costs are higher, finding independent shops can significantly reduce these expenses [2:5]. Some users express concern about Porsche's reliability due to its association with Volkswagen Group, but others defend its quality, noting that modern Porsches are generally reliable except for specific models
[2:3],
[5:10].
Acura: A Solid Choice
Acura is also mentioned as a reliable luxury brand, although it doesn't receive as much attention as Lexus or Porsche [2:7]. Some users debate whether Acura qualifies as a true luxury brand, but its reliability is acknowledged
[5:12].
German Brands: Performance vs. Reliability
German luxury brands like BMW and Mercedes-Benz are often criticized for being expensive to maintain and prone to issues once warranties expire [5:5]. However, some users argue that modern BMWs, especially post-n-series engines, are quite reliable if properly maintained
[5:9]. Despite this, many users prefer the driving experience of German cars over Japanese ones, even if it means accepting higher maintenance costs
[5:11].
Volvo: An Underrated Contender
Volvo is occasionally mentioned as a reliable luxury option, with some users sharing positive experiences regarding safety and comfort [3:1],
[3:5]. While not as frequently discussed as Lexus or Porsche, Volvo seems to offer a balanced combination of reliability and luxury features.
In conclusion, while Lexus stands out as the top recommendation for reliability among luxury car brands, Porsche, Acura, and Volvo also present viable options depending on individual preferences and willingness to manage maintenance costs.
Based on your personal buying / servicing experience, which luxury automotive brand would you most recommend and why?
Lexus. Not only because of reliability but also in price, tech, and materials used.
Japanese: Mazda, Lexus German: Audi ,Mercedez, Porsche Italian: Lamborghini
Tbh Mazda is such a great sleeper pick. The new CX-60 and CX-90 are NICE. I’d take a CX-60 over a BMW X1 or a base X3 all day
Vague question with a Gajillion answers.
Entry Level Luxury: Audi, BMW, Mercedes
Mid Level Luxury: Same + Add in Porsche, Alfa, Maserati
High End Luxury: Rolls Royce, Bentley, Maybach, Aston Martin
Most Reliable Luxury: Lexus
And there are so many sub categories after that.
Put forth a Budget first, then what you are looking for in a Vehicle, then we can start blasting.
Hi there! Apart from the price point, one of the main factors being considered is actually the ownership experience (including repair costs, after-sales service, etc). Hope that narrows it down a bit, thanks!
Still doesn't.
To clarify, Lifestyle is a Huge Factor.
Are you going to drive? Chauffer Driven? Daily? Longer Drives? Shorter Drives?
BMW absolutely trounces Lexus in Driving Dynamics for instance, but if you have a Driver, that's a moot point.
Lexus is more reliable, but if you plan to keep the vehicle within 5 years? Doesn't matter.
Looking for an EV? Audi and Porsche have better options.
You need something that is a bit different? Maserati. A bit more British? JLR.
You are in the wrong forum as well, since a lot of people here will Upvote / Downvote based on absolutely no ownership experience.
I've owned multiple BMWs. My experience with Casa stopped pre-RSA days, after ordering a Radiator was a 2 Month affair vs. just Ordering with Turner Motorsports and shipping in 5 days.
Conversely, ordering a few Lexus specific items (Non-Part shared with a Toyota Platform) for a friend via Casa also took a couple of weeks.
I also own a Mercedes. Plastics could be better, CATs has good service but parts are still slow vs. just ordering outright online.
There's a documented Jaguar owner with an S Type who nearly flipped when he found out a rear shock mount is 16k Each. By comparison, for an E39, it was around 3k. (S Types and E39 BMWs were rival Midsize cars from similar eras)
Some parts on Maserati Ghiblis are from Chryslers.
Audi A4s can be relatively easy to maintain due to VW Parts sharing.
So I suggest you narrow your choices using the following:
Who is gonna be the primary driver? You or Chauffer?
What is the SIZE of the Vehicle? Sedan? Coupe? SUV? Shooting Brake? Wagon?
Back to Size again, Compact? Midsize? Fullsize? Because you don't compare a 3 Series with an A6.
How much performance are you looking for? How much power do you need? Do you need an AMG? An AMG Sport? or Just AMG Badges?
Risk Tolerance - Are you getting a new or used vehicle? Pre-owned?
Do you have other vehicles in a fleet in case something goes wrong?
I'll give you an Example. A Land Rover or Range Rover will just about beat a Land Cruiser or LX570 across the board in comfort.
It is also likely to sit in your garage with an issue with Air Suspension sagging.
Does that make the Toyota a better car? Maybe. To someone who values Reliability, sure.
But if you have a BMW and a Mercedes in the fleet? Just have the thing serviced under warranty. The Toyota will not even come close in comfort, and you have backups anyway.
Getting a Luxury Car is a bespoke question with a bespoke answer.
Hindi Vios vs. City.
As per my Father-In-Law, a Master Mechanic for almost 50 years now and who has handled nearly all makes and models, Lexus.
Maserati
So Inheard mostly that luxury cars are not reliable and was wondering why? I have a few brands on mind like Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, Infiniti, BMW. Was wondering that models are worth buying for each brand. Looking for something 2015+. Any advice is appreciated!
porsche. Maintenance is more expensive but finding an indy shop to do the work is not hard and at least 50% less expensive than the dealers. most of the issues with modern porsches are cosmetic.
I saw some rankings recently that listed Porsche as the second most reliable brand. Might have been consumer reports but can't recall. I have only had my Macan for half a year so I can't really speak to its reliability yet.
But you're absolutely right about maintenance costing more. So far everything I've done has been about 2x costs for similar work on BMWs.
I think when people ask about reliability, what they're really asking about is upkeep costs. In the case of Porsche, they're supposed to be quite reliable, but it doesn't make them cheap to maintain.
Porsche was truly above the other German brands but then VAG bought them. I am not sure if the quality is still above average given VAG is so below average.
But, is Porsche a luxury car ...
Lexus GX 460 is the most reliable vehicle in the world according to Consumer Reports.
Though I agree, paying almost 5k a year on gas alone make it less enticing, that kills the savings on maintenance and repair imo
GX's can take 87, several owners are pushing 200k+ miles running 87 since it's birth with zero issues. While it does get bad gas mileage that butter smooth V8 and the reliability is worth it.
Lexus IS-350 F-sport
i wouldn't say that luxury cars as a whole category are necessarily that much more prone than regular cars for mechanical issues to happen. there are good models & bad models, just like a regular-brand car. and just like a regular car, you need to keep up on the maintenance schedule or else shit eventually goes wrong.
however, when mechanical issues do happen, they are more expensive. i own a BMW and one of the most common oil leak repairs is somewhere around $1200. the part is not even $100 of that, it's just really fucking time-consuming to get to. and it's true that many are only really smart to own on a lease, where the germans pick up the maintenance bill if something goes wrong.
the most-reliable luxury brand to own is lexus, because it's just fancy toyotas with the same bulletproof platforms & engines. they're actually sold as higher-end toyotas in japan, but they built lexus to sell them better in america.
the most reliable car you can buy in the country is the lexus GX, because it's a toyota land cruiser underneath and those are quite literally a common sight in third-world wars because they're that tough. it's a gigantic SUV that gets terrible MPG and could probably climb a giant pile of SUVs. holds its value extremely well because they're easily good to several hundred thousand miles and the auto market knows it.
if you want a luxury car, get an IS or GS. i owned a cadillac with the 3.6 V6 and had literally no non-consumable maintenance bills in 2 years(and took 87 gas, which is rare for luxury cars & saves a ton of money).
if it has to be german (i can't blame you obviously), straight-6 BMWs and 3.0T Audis are generally fairly safe bets, but definitely google the model before you buy to figure out what its most common problems are and make sure the maintenance records are respectable. and learn to do your own maintenance.
GX is a Land Cruiser Prado underneath, LX is a proper Land Cruiser underneath (as in what was sold as the Toyota Land Cruiser stateside)
What luxury cars would you not regret buying and maintaining, especially here in the Philippines? Gonna assume Lexus is one of the top because... it's Toyota.
A friend told me that BMWs are hard to maintain. Not sure about the rest.
Lexus >>> BMW > Mercedes > Audi >>>>>>>>>> Land Rover
But dont be fooled, a Lexus is still expensive to maintain but its simply less likely to have random issues compared to its German Rivals. Wear items like brakes and tires will still be expensive. Actually all of these are reliable as long as they are maintained properly (except Land Rovers of course)
Lexus is very reliable.
Had a BMW 740Li. Grabe every ilang months balik sa casa kasi may warning. Currently have a Lexus RX450h that one is a great car. Maintenance once a year and walang problems. Quiet, has power, comfortable ride. I'd buy a Lexus again if you ask me. Great service din sa dealer.
once a year lang pala maintenance ni lexus,.ok ah,bawas sa hassle.hehe,.i’m considering lexus, specially paglabas dito satin nung bagong GX
Yep! Kaya ok sila. Nagpaservice ako last week. May libreng kape and sandwich pa haha. The new GX is so beautiful. I'm getting the Toyota tho kasi hybrid.
Used to have an X5, still probably the single biggest maintenance headache I’ve ever had
I currently have 3 Volvo's right now. Had a couple of toyotas before and a BMW as well. Safety, comfort and reliability wise I'd pick the Volvo all day. My Volvo's had less problems than all of my previous Toyota cars surprisingly.
What model is your oldest Volvo? I know someone who's currently using a 2012 c30 as a daily and it's awesome.
I have a 2005 XC90, 2002 S60, and a 1998 Volvo 850. Very good reliable cars and the engine is basically bulletproof lol
Agree with you here - never trying a German car again! Volvos are far better in terms of reliability.
Lexus very reliable. Very minimal complaints with the ES. Had previous experience with a Volvo and that was a keeper as well.
Rolls Royce... I mean come on.
Rolls Royce is another level. Great answer.
It’s the definition of luxury imo. It’s like driving a damn Rolex or something.
Too broad of a question. Performance wise, daily driver for gram gram, reliability, chick magnet, curb appeal? Without a proper question you won't get a "best" answer. Lexus makes a decent car as does Audi. But it's really subjective. So I'd say the one you could afford and afford to maintain
I drive one. I wanted it subjective so that people wouldn’t feel limited on their answers. If it is a Rolls...great. If they want to say Ferrari due to performance that’s fine as well. I kept it broad intentionally.
With that being said, I'd go with an Aston Martin.
Audi. I know its a subjective answer but since they share volkswagon heritage, they are, expensive to maintain but should keep chugging
More like being driven in a Rolex!
Great choice. Love the vanquish.
Luxury cars are all about style, comfort, and prestige but sometimes they come with serious headaches. Whether it's constant repairs, high depreciation, poor reliability, or sky-high maintenance costs. we all know not all luxury rides are worth the badge they wear.
Have you ever owned a luxury car that turned out to be more pain than pleasure?
Which model would you never recommend, no matter how good it looks on the outside?
Curious to hear your experiences and opinions especially as I’m working on a video covering this exact topic.
Let’s talk luxury regrets. 👇
I consider Lexus a luxury brand and they are relatively easy to maintain
Lexus Acura, BMW Mercedes(C,E, and S Classes) are premium not luxury. My amazement 10 years ago when an actual luxury vehicle representative at Bentley was telling me about the differences.
Many Lexus cars are just hopped up Toyotas and share many of the same parts and construction. Same with Acura.
Most models were just called Toyotas or Hondas. Lexus only launched in japan domestic market around 2005
I like to think this plays a big hand in their reliability, but i have no real evidence.
Yep I’ve noticed the wealthy, country club set seem to favor the Lexus. Luxury and practical. You don’t stay rich giving all your money to a mechanic!
Exactly this. I mean engines on luxury European cars like BMW or Mercedes are great. But the rest of the stuff that makes them move can be problematic. That said, those cars needs a lot of babysitting to remain cost-efficient after many years. Which is why they'll never surpass the Japanese or Korean brands in terms of reliability.
Absolutely. Once that warranty runs out, the repair bills start piling up fast. Leasing really does save people from the long term pain with most luxury brands.
Owned a 2020 Giulia Ti for 3 years and 60k miles. Didn't have a single issue. They aren't any less reliable than the comparative German cars. Just avoid the 2017s. Fantastic car.
Yep. For the most part, Maserati are beautiful pieces of shit. Except for the Lavante, which isn’t even beautiful.
Nooo Anything outside of warranty and unless you have a large fortune that you are willing to turn into a small fortune, don’t own a luxury car out of warranty!!!1!
/s.
Modern BMWs post n-series engines are incredibly reliable, and there’s nothing I’ve tried from Japanese manufacturers that feel anywhere near as well to drive compared to German. I’ll gladly take the more rigorous maintenance as a trade off.
Porsche are generally really reliable, to the point that the ones that aren’t are well known (996 non-metzger, 986, some of the panameras). They’re just really expensive to do major repairs on because the engine is in the “wrong” side of the car.
It’s a problem, because I’m constantly tempted by a 30k cayman. 90% chance that other than larger tires and brakes, it’s about the same cost to maintain as my BRZ… but if I’m one of the unlucky 10%… oof.
(All the B-series BMWs are pretty sturdy as well)
I mean, I literally drive the most "unreliable" Mercedes chassis of the period (2006 S55 AMG) with zero issues. People blow the German thing so out of the proportion. Do the maintenance. Don't neglect your car and it won't do you dirty.
For me it’s probably BMW, though it’s a distant second.
Genesis makes good-looking sedans too — but not sure about their reliability since the brand is still so new.
Is Porsche not a luxury brand? Why is no one saying Porsche
I’ve always viewed Porsche as slightly above the mainstream luxury brands
For me if I'm buying a Porsche, it's a 911. if I’m buying for pure luxury, Porsche is not in my top five.
The new active suspension tech in their non-sports cars is pretty damn luxury. Don’t feel anything at all because it adapts and anticipates in live time.
I was just about to say Porsche lol
Amazing, dailyable, comfortable, most reliaable in its class, racecar
They will just run circles around anything you throw it against at the track assuming you know how to drive.
My best friend just sold his Lexus RX and bought a Porsche Cayenne. Amazing vehicle.
starting to like BMWs more- b58 is pretty reliable and it seems like lexus doesn’t gaf about their sedans
I agree. Hard to argue with how well the B58 drives in all their applications. The transmission is so good and the power is just smooth and effortless. If I had money I would lease an M240i or 540i for sure.
I’d probably pick Porsche but I’m not sure I’d actually ever own one the. I have a friend with a cayenne he says its fine for the most part but when something does go wrong damn is it expensive and I just don’t like to spend money like that lol
It really depends on what you want, I used to have an RX and then got a Cayenne. RX is far cheaper to maintain and still an excellent daily, 150k miles with ease. The Cayenne drives far better though, in a different stratosphere compared to an RX - but you’re paying for that.
If you just want a comfortable reliable daily then the RX will do that wonderfully, but the handling and dynamics/performance of the Cayenne are unmatched. Also I got a CPO model so I don’t have to deal with any expensive repairs, and I had my vehicle maintained at a local speciality euro shop that charged far less than Porsche
I like Porsche the most but I’m too poor to afford a new one so Lexus is my second favorite and the one that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed for the past 10 years
same here would love a Porsche 911 GT3 RS if I won the powerball!
I’m looking into luxury brands for the first time and I’m curious who you’d rank at the top. Looking for an SUV in the $50k-75k range that can seat 6-7.
Who breaks down the least? Best/easily available to service? Bang for your buck? Etc.
When compared to most other luxury brands, yes. The B58/48 engines are rock solid and the ZF8HP has been around forever and is a tank. There’s a reason Toyota trusted them to make the Supra
Lexus by far for reliability, then Porsche and BMW. I'd put Acura above BMW in reliability but not quite the same tier of luxury. Mazda is also very reliable but is more affordable-premium than true luxury. There are other luxury brands that you could afford used, but with worse reliability that you'd pay for in service costs
Lexus yes. Porsche no (unless you’ve got a well sorted older model). BMW not a bad selection. Depending on your definition of luxury, we could mention VW.
Mazda has been moving upmarket, but I suspect you’ll find few who will agree that it is a luxury car marque.
Lexus is the last choice for user interface with the entertainment/navigation etc. bmw is best.
If all you care about is luxury and reliable, get a Lexus.
If you also want it to be sporty and have a fuck ton of money, get a Porsche.
If you want it to be sporty, but only have Lexus money, get a BMW.
If you don’t have Lexus money and want something reliable that is still premium, get a Mazda
New Audis are pretty good too in terms of refinement and technology. Many people don't know that Porsche and Audi are both owned by VW.
Audis aren't as reliable long term as BMW or Lexus, i know this because i own an audi and i haven't seen it in 2 months because it's been in the shop
Given me plenty of time to look around for an m240i though lol
I think its pretty obvious that audi is vw but Porsche is a little bit less well known
Well put. I would throw an Acura between Lexus and Mazda.
Range Rover. You can rely on its quality.
Who breaks down the least?
My bad. NOT Range Rover. It's reliably bad.
X7 is an amazing machine. Best three row SUV
Newer bmw have been proven to be reliable, get one with a b58 or s58 engine. The inline 4 counterparts are pretty solid as well from what I heard but the inline 6 is superior.
BMW and Porsche have nothing to do with luxury.
How do you then define luxury? The Gran coupe and Panamera or Turbo S to me are luxury cars but I reckon you would consider them sports cars? Do you find those two attributes to be polar opposites because to me Porsche makes luxury sports cars so I don't understand your point.
Luxury is something exclusive to a degree. Real luxury is something that isn't achievable by getting a loan you can pay out in 5 years. That's what Instagram kids do with lambos and porsches nowadays. It's not about how these brands positioning themselves for people because that way even audi and volvo are luxury cars, which they just aren't. Nothing about macan or cayenne is sport. BMW seats have nothing to do with the word luxury as they are stiff and not as comfortable as in other, sometimes cheaper cars.
You can spec a 150k luxury car with either of them. Get a grip
Expensive doesn't mean luxury. You can get a fancier rebadged VW or a trimmed out "SpOrTy" bimer but it's still a rebadged vw and a bimer. These aren't luxury cars.
still, some people treat them like they are luxury brands.
True, yet that doesn't make them that.
Oooh! Alright mister fancy pants, what do you drive?
/uj that Estoque is pure sex
Where Saab?
Every post I see says Japanese cars are the only reliable cars.
From what I see, any German car is a no go beyond 50 miles because of frequent issues and high maintenance fees.
Are there no exceptions?
In terms of reliability, as in “I won’t need to visit the shop as much”, the usual suspects like Acura and Lexus stand out. However, if you do some research, there are some brands with a reliable track record, as long as you avoid certain model years or configurations.
Examples include Porsche, which has been noted as more reliable than most other German luxury brands. Some models and specific configurations from Audi and BMW have also been unusually reliable.
If you want reliable and less expensive to maintain/repair, then Lexus and Acura are pretty much it.
Luxury reliability starts and ends with Lexus
Porshe reliability is insane for the absolute engineering that goes into those engines. Especially recent models.
Sure, Lexus are better but they are just upgraded Toyotas and modified Toyota engines.
Mercedes is a real rollercoaster on reliability reputation over the past 30-40 years or so. They used to be the best in the world, but they cut their R&D budgets for profits, and failed to respond to new realities - like Lexus coming in and eating their lunch in the 90s by doing exactly what they were supposed to be good at, but better. They failed to evolve and for a while were actually pretty bad relative to the competition. Everyone got better, they floundered. Yet they still coasted, and still coast to a degree, on this sterling brand reputation. They have clawed a lot of that back over the years and are much better. But still not top of the heap by any means. If you pick and choose through their models, some are really quite good (2014-2016 350E is amazing reliable), but overall as a luxury brand, pretty average.
Pretty much any new car will be reliable. Not just Japanese. And must luxury cars are Reliable just require more maintenance. 90% of the “advice” you see on here if from people without any actual experience when any of these vehicles
Lol, wrong!
I applied the same logic back in 2015 when purchasing an Audi S3. While under warranty it had to have several sensors replaced under the 10k mark. I maintained and babied this car. Enter year 6 of ownership and the water pump and tstat requires replacement. Not cheap. Then the magnet ride dampers began to fail then shortly afterwards the turbo was on its way out all with only 69K on the clock.
She did drive like no other.
In 2016 we picked up an Audi A3 Sline. She's been near perfect with the exception of some sort of rattling that to this day no one can pinpoint the source and some random errors that pop up and never come back.
I'm not pissing on Audi as I'd jump back into one if they can be consistent with reliability.
The German and Euro brand have nearly perfect fit and finish and attention to detail but they do require some special repairs when things go sideways.
Pretty much any new car will be reliable
What's the cut-off for "new"? My family owned exclusively BMWs (brand new 2010 or 2011 X3, 2015 X5) and they have both been shitboxes of reliability. They were both in the shop every few months. We thought the first one was a lemon but the second one was just as much of a headache. From spark plug issues and not being to start to water pumps or whatever just randomly failing. My parents also did not put much mileage on their cars either.
When I graduated, I bought a Lexus IS350 and since then, I've bought an RX and RC-F and in the past almost 7 years, I've had zero issues with them outside of regular maintenance. My parents have converted to Lexus only and bought a RX as well a few years ago.
I'm a BMW owner for almost a decade. Zero major issues. I just get regular maintenance at a shop that I trust.
You also can't compare BMW to Lexus. One is a fun driving sports brand. The other is for grandpa to feel comfortable while driving.
Yeah this guy's advice was horrible, not all new cars are reliable. Most people think about new car reliability on if it will get you 100k miles or 5 years of use without major repairs then it is reliable - if that's the case then you can take Jeep, Audi, Range Rover and Jaguar off the plate immediately. For the used market buyers, they typically think about reliability beyond 100k miles, so take the brand previously removed and go ahead and add dodge, Chrysler, mini, bmw, fiat and GM to the list.
For a new car that you plan on selling in 5 years, reliability shouldn't be too much of a concern if you have a great warranty. If you are in the used market, getting something reliable, durable and cheap/easy to maintain is key which really starts to limit options
Acura is an upscaled/luxury line that Honda makes. Lexus is the same with Toyota. Both use are very similar cars to the parent brand, so many like them for fancy interiors but while also being reliable.
Acura is Honda luxury brand.Lexus is Toyota luxury brand. Lincoln/Ford(owned by Ford) , Porsche - Audi - VW (owned by the same company VW)
Porsche is reliable, but still among the most expensive brands to own, due to parts and service costs.
A new headlight assembly for my Boxster S was $3,500 last summer lol
I don’t know if this is the right sub for this. I’m looking for a luxury/semi-luxury car. The issue with those is how quickly they 1. Devalue 2. Need repair. I was hoping reddit would help me find a good luxury car that is also reliable and long lasting.
Edit: I’m looking for an SUV
BMW is currently on the top 10 most reliable brands list from Consumer Reports.
Audi or Cadillac over Benz or Jag
Every person I know with fairly recent Cadillacs have had problems. Primarily electrical but also leaking from the roof. Same goes with GM trucks (for the electrical). I wouldn’t pick one over a Benz. If reliability is primary factor, I’d probably go Lexus > BMW > Porsche > Benz and definitely would never pick Land/Range Rover.
Porsche is deemed the “Lexus of German cars” as far as reliability
All of them are reliable enough to own for 5-10 years outside of the absolute top trim and models. Like an Audi a5 will probably go a decade with no major issues, but an Audi A8L is probably gonna last 6 years before some control unit breaks that nobody can seem to get to without taking the whole car apart
Lexus won’t blow you away in terms of luxury and refinement but the reliability is top notch. I don’t think the interiors are bad or anything though, just a bit boring. But boring and reliable isn’t bad by any means.
Also Lexus depreciation curve is significantly better than BMW, Audi, Mercedes.
Lexus’s have Toyota level of reliability as well. Easily go 160k miles with regular maintenance, no major fixes.
Agreed the new models are so reliable but if your planning on keeping it for ten years, it will eventually cost quite a bit, however, I have a 2020 330i and it's not even an m car and it's the best car I've ever had. The driving experience is amazing. For lifetime reliability, lexus sits at top, then bmw Acura genesis. Look into genesis g70 or the suv gv70, the g80, Acura tlx, bmw 5series, lexus es350, Porsche Macan s or cayenne s(used of course lol). Stay away from caddilac, and Mercedes. If it's not foreign, it's not worth the money
And the fact that generally the type of buyer for a BMW wants top performance so they are upgrading alot of the times and maybe putting off certain maintenance.
I’m guilty of it myself. My first bmw was as reliable as anything for 120k miles. However timing chain is recommended at 100k miles and it’s atleast a $5k job. Did I want to do that or upgrade? So I upgraded.
Once I’m at a M5 i would do it but until then, I would rather just put the money into my next car. Sorry to the next guy who probably doesn’t do the timing chain either and then complains they are unreliable.
Lexus folks buy a Lexus already accepting they are just driving economy car performance around and probably won’t care about upgrading
My buddy is on his third, and yes. But damn those cars are nice. He has a 2017 7 series now and it's wonderful.
I just got a 2019 Acura rdx because I can't stomach the crazy costs and special mechanics for a BMW.
Agree all the way with Lexus or Acura. Although a lot of cars come fully loaded and don’t really lack anything a “luxury” model would.
If you’re looking for an SUV, my pick specific to your question would be the Acura MDX. They’re pretty fast, look great, and are reliable. If you want a sedan, then can’t go wrong with an ES. They’re just kind of boring.
The newer BMW engines are pretty bulletproof but you have to stay on top of the maintenance. For most BMWs it's not the engine that goes it's something else that is stupid and even more expensive. Mercedes is kind of the same way. Audi is just garbage. German cars are built with the mindset that German people adhere to strict rules regarding maintenance, it is legitimately a cultural thing. Lexus and Acura are nice because they are essentially economy cars with upgraded interiors.
