TL;DR
24/7 and Early Opening Options
For those seeking a very early breakfast or even a late-night meal, Hector's Cafe in the Meatpacking District is a reliable option as it operates 24/7. It's described as a super casual eatery with solid breakfast offerings [1:1]. Another option for an early start is Brooklyn Bagel, which has locations in Manhattan that open at 7 AM on Saturdays, providing a classic New York bagel experience
[1:2].
Sit-Down Diners and Cafes
If you're looking for a sit-down breakfast spot, Zaza Diner, located a few blocks north of the Battery on Greenwich, is recommended for its extensive breakfast menu. It’s noted for not being too crowded early in the morning, although some find the decor a bit garish [1:3]. Additionally, Johnny's Luncheonette in Manhattan opens at 8 AM and closes by 2:30 PM, offering a traditional diner experience
[4:1].
Brooklyn Breakfast Spots
In Brooklyn, Peter Pan, known for its donuts, opens before 5 AM, making it a great choice for early risers [3:1]. Tom's Restaurant on Washington Avenue, famous for its pancakes, opens at 8 AM
[3:2]. Five Leaves is another popular spot that opens at 8 AM
[3:6].
Trendy and Classic Breakfasts
For those interested in trendy or classic breakfast spots, Clinton Street Baking Co. is renowned for its pancakes and opens early enough to accommodate breakfast seekers [5:2],
[5:5]. Other notable mentions include Shopsin's at Essex Market and La Bonbonniere on 8th Ave, both offering unique and satisfying breakfast experiences
[5:1],
[5:6].
These options provide a range of choices for early breakfast seekers in NYC, from casual diners to more specialized cafes, catering to various tastes and preferences.
Coming to NYC this weekend, staying just south of Central Park. Friends booked a trip to the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island on Saturday morning and want to get a heavy-ish breakfast before being in the sun for 5-hours. I’ve found a couple of mixed review diners that open early and a laundry list of amazing places that don’t open until later.
Is there somewhere:
Alternatives include traveling to NYC to eat instant eggs at the hotel or going to a bodega for chop cheese and getting gastrointestinal distress on the ferry.
Both Brooklyn Bagel locations in Manhattan open at 7 on Saturdays according to Google Maps.
There’s a diner called Zaza that’s a few blocks north of the Battery. On Greenwich. Great big breakfast spread, prices aren’t totally outlandish. Decor is a bit garish. I doubt it will be crowded that early.
want to get a heavy-ish breakfast before being in the sun for 5-hours.
Are they sure?? Makes me nauseous just thinking about being stuffed full of carbs under a relentless high noon sun. Please hydrate.
Gemma @ Bowery Hotel.
Diners in Manhattan are all trash, have had to cheap out on food quality and raise prices to stay in biz.
Hectors Cafe in the Meatpacking district is open 24/7. Super casual eatery with solid breakfast food.
I used to live by there and loved it. Both early morning and late night which at that age for me were kind of the same thing.
B&H Dairy
I am landing in JFK at 6 in the morning. Not sure when i will get out but since i have no plans until later, i have time to eat somewhere.
Can someone please recomend a great breakfast place that's open that early?
Thank you
Does your hotel have a restaurant?
Six isn’t very early here especially on a weekday. You can go pretty much anywhere unless you are going back to jfk later on.
Why near JFK?
Are you going into Manhattan or elsewhere in NYC?
There is not really a neighborhood near JFK that you can easily get to without getting on public transit, and at that point, you might as well go someplace more happening.
Oh, good to know. I wanted near jfk cause that is just where i touch down and wanted to go somewhere quick and close
Get a snack in the airport (before leaving the secure part), and grab a meal when you get to where you’re going in NYC.
There should be plenty of options to get something light to eat in the airport at 6am.
Toms Restaurant on Washington Avenue! Best pancakes! They open at 8.
One of my BK pro-tips is to grab a sandwich from Thea, then to take the LIRR to JFK.
They open at 7 during the week and 8 on weekends.
breakfast by salt’s cure, le crocodile, sunday in brooklyn, santa fe, little egg
Peter Pan opens before 5am
the donut shop?
Yes, are you saying you can’t eat donuts for breakfast?
Also, they do breakfast there.
Five Leaves opens at 8
I am looking for restaurants to apply to that open early (6AM, 7AM, 8AM) and close early (1PM, 2PM, 3PM). I have only found "Breakfast By Salt's Cure" and Google is not much of a help. I would be looking for a location in Manhattan but if it's near/in Downtown Brooklyn or Astoria via train that also fits what I am looking for. Thanks all!
Pure curiosity - why are you looking for a place that closes early?
I am looking to find a second job and my current job has me come in at 4:30.
Don't limit yourself to places that close early, a lot of places have shifts
Fahk, you poor hard working bastard. :-/
Bagel stores tend to close that early.
Edith’s Sandwich Counter
495 Lorimer St Brooklyn, New York , 11211
Monday-Thursday 8:30am-3:00 pm
Friday-Sunday 8:30am-5:00pm
Johny's Luncheonette
Location 124 W. 25th Street, NY, NY 10001 Between 6th and 7th Avenues
Hours 8:00am- 2:30pm 7 days a week
This place is legit one of my fav breakfast spots
Thanks so much for this comment and the other place! I will check it out.
Try hotel restaurants or even a hotel front desk gig. When I was in guest facing I would work 7-3 front desk and then 4-10 at my second job, which was a restaurant. Same second job would also give me 7-3’s when I needed to work 3-11 front desk shifts.
Looking for recommendations on where to grab a great breakfast in NYC. Open to everything classic diners, bagel spots, or trendy brunch places.
Clinton Street Baking Co. for amazing pancakes, and Russ & Daughters for a classic bagel done right.
Copellia on 14th Street at 7th Avenue

I’ll be spending a day in NYC and I’m trynna get some breakfast!
Need more details: neighborhood, how do you define “cheap”, are you just traveling here for breakfast, etc.?
B and H Dairy for value and experience.
But for less than 10 a plate? Bagels and Bodegas.
I’ll be spending a day in NYC and I’m trynna get some breakfast!

ya kitchen
that other sub asknyc would be better because they have so many recommendations. or if you have TikTok you can look up breakfast spots in the city.
hi yall. Going in September looking for sit down spot preferably that open around 8 ish, first time going for 21st birthday
Go to Buvette in West Village when they open (8 am) and you will not regret it :)
Get some birthday breakfast mousse too
S&P lunch counter
Second this. Classic luncheonette with fantastic breakfast and lunch. Everything I’ve tried is delicious. Get an egg cream.
You are coming in September 2024? Lol whatever we might recommend might not be open… 9 month is a long time
September? September of next year?! Damn you really are preparing in advance.
why is this marked NSFW
This is an oddly specific request, but does anybody have recommendations for restaurants that are normally not open on the weekend or have unusual hours? I work a standard M-F job, but I get the holiday off tomorrow and want to try a place that I can't usually go to with my normal work schedule. For example, I've been wanting to check out La Morada in the Bronx, but I just checked their website and it looks like they're only open Monday - Wednesday 10am-5pm (!), so I really don't know when I'll be able to go there, short of taking a day off. Thanks!
Not exactly a restaurant but ACME fish co is only open to the public on Friday mornings.
Check the financial district. About 15 years ago I worked at a place that was only open on weekdays, bc their customers were really just the office workers. However, now it’s become a much more residential area than it used to be, but if there’s an area that’s weekday centric it’s that
Another "not a restaurant" suggestion, but I always think about Joju for modern Vietnamese sandwiches. they're only open Mon-Fri from 10am to 4:30pm
I did not know that!
Though JoJu in Elmhurst and Flushing are open on the weekends (and later). JoJu Elmhurst also has a better menu (that pork belly....)
Grand Central Oyster Bar is the only right answer to this
Worjip is closed on Sundays, though they're open on Saturdays...
Doughnut Project is open Wed-Sun, but only till 2PM (or when they sell out).
You could try looking around Midtown or Financial District, since a lot of those places are catering to the 9-5 crowd...
Are they at all locations? Info seems a little sparse.
I have a little bit of free time tomorrow morning and want Mexican for breakfast. Was also thinking of Animo, but their menu seems too big for me to possibly decide what to get solo. Does anyone have suggestions of what to get there? Or suggestions for other places in Manhattan? Thanks!
The one by Grand Central was still doing it as of 3 weeks ago.
The one on Lafayette does too
That’s the answer I’m looking for! Thank you :)
Chelsea market yes
The one in Hudson Yards does
How is this one? The location is their weirdest one.
It is slammed during lunch hours.
Yeah they are at all locations. 8 to 11. I like the beef Machaca and one California. And ask for an extra salsa.
Amazing! Thank you.
NYC breakfast spots open early
Here are some great breakfast spots in NYC that open early:
Balthazar
Ess-a-Bagel
Tommy's Restaurant
Clinton St. Baking Company
The Butcher's Daughter
Takeaways:
Recommendation: If you're looking for a quintessential NYC breakfast experience, start with Ess-a-Bagel for a classic bagel and cream cheese, then head to Balthazar for a more sit-down experience with a French twist.
