What Redditors are Saying

Rarest Magical Creatures in Hogwarts Legacy

Shiny Variants

In "Hogwarts Legacy," some magical creatures have rare shiny variants, which are considered rare due to their unique appearance. These shinies are indicated by a star next to their sex when catching them and in the beast inventory once captured [1:1]. Shiny unicorns are particularly rare since there is only one unicorn den available [1:1]. Shiny thestrals, described as albino or goldish in color, are also rare [1:3][1:7].

Phoenix

The Phoenix is one of the rarest creatures in the game because there is only one Phoenix available, making it impossible to breed [3:3]. This uniqueness adds to its rarity among magical creatures in Hogwarts Legacy.

Graphorn

Graphorns are catchable and breedable but can be challenging to capture due to their tendency to run off before being caught [3:1]. The Lord of the Shore Graphorn is particularly notable for breeding purposes [3:5].

Unicorns

Unicorns are another rare magical creature in the game, with only one den available for capturing them [1:1]. They can be bred once caught, adding to their allure for players seeking rare beasts [3:1].

Thestrals

Thestrals are available for riding if you have specific editions or packs, such as the Digital Deluxe Edition [1:5]. While they are not the rarest in terms of availability, their shiny variants and ability to be ridden make them a sought-after creature in the game [1:4][1:6].

Overall, these creatures stand out due to their rarity in terms of availability, unique variants, or special abilities within the game.

ORIGINAL POST

I'm currently on the beast breeding quest from Deek and it made me think how awesome Hogwarts legacy 2 will be if they expand the Beast catching and breeding mechanic. Make it like Pokémon. Expand the number of beasts, add rare or ultra rare variants for each beast. Allow players to use beasts with their unique attacks as companion and partner in fighting enemies. It would be so awesome.

I’m really pissed off we can’t ride thestrals and unicorns in this one.

Using them in fights is a bit iffy. You can currently use the graphorn to charge your enemy if you’re already mounted. But I guess you’d win most fights if you whipped out your graphorn like a mandrake.

You can ride a thestral if you have, I believe, the dark arts pack? One of the downloads. In gear, if you hover highwing and press the button you do to modify clothing, you can swap her to the black hippogriff or a thestral

I'm on Switch and can ride Sepulchria (a Thestral), but I couldn't do it until they did the update that gave us what was originally the special edition PlayStation stuff (like the Haunted Shop quest).

(Took a 10 minute research break)

Alright, I've had a look and it seems like the Thestral mount comes from the Digital Deluxe Edition that you can purchase for Hogwarts Legacy. It's up to you whether you want to spend the extra money.

And having a new look at the Nintendo eShop, I just got a free download of an Onyx Hippogriff, too.

So, thanks for giving me a push to check it out. 😂

They already have rare variants, called shiny. When you’re catching them it will show their sex and, if they are shiny, a star beside the sex. Once they are in the viviriam it will also show a star in the beast inventory.

Some are easy to find, but some take some extra time and patience. I found a shiny unicorn on my second try the first time I played the game, but the last time I played I checked the unicorn den multiple times and caught a bunch of unicorns, but the shiny never appeared. Since there’s only one unicorn den I would call a shiny unicorn ultra rare. I’ve never seen a shiny thestral in any game. So maybe a shiny thestral is also ultra rare.

I have yet to find a shiny unicorn.. but I caught 2 shiny thestrals (albino) the first time I stumbled upon their den lol.. and even found a few unique long hair (gold) thestral that no one talks about for some reason

I think the female thestrals may be kind of goldish color, but idk. The shiny unicorn is gold.

Optimized Beast Distribution Across Vivariums in Hogwarts Legacy: An Analysis

Posted by WolverinePlane95 · in r/HarryPotterGame · 8 months ago

Hey fellow Potterheads,

I realize that at this point, "Hogwarts Legacy" is "old" by video game standards. However, I think many casual gamers (like me) are still discovering the world of Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and the Highlands in this magical video game -- especially with current discounted prices on various platforms.

I'm writing this post because I've had difficulty finding the “sweet spot” for my beast distribution during my gameplay. So I took to the internet, including Reddit, to see if there was information on the best magical beast distribution between the four vivariums. Because I found wildly varying opinions and other data online; I wanted to share my recent foray into the intricate world of beast distribution across various vivariums in "Hogwarts Legacy." I have spent an embarrassingly significant amount of time on this endeavor. Using a blend of empirical observations and heuristic algorithms (AI), I believe I’ve formulated an optimal distribution for all 13 unique beasts across the 4 distinct vivariums: Woods, Swamp, Coastal, and Grasslands.

Here’s the comprehensive breakdown:

Initial Data:

Total Beasts: 13
Total Vivariums: 4 (each capable of holding up to 4 species)

Beast List:

  1. Puffskein (Complete "The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom" main quest/exploration)
  2. Jobberknoll (Complete "The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom" main quest/exploration)
  3. Mooncalf (Complete "The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom" main quest/exploration)
  4. Fwooper (Found in the highlands through exploration)
  5. Unicorn (Complete "The Unique Unicorn" side quest/exploration)
  6. Niffler (Complete "A Theif in the Night" or "Rescuing Rococo" side quests/exploration)
  7. Giant Purple Toad (Found in the highlands through exploration)
  8. Thestral (Complete the "Foal of the Dead" side quest/exploration)
  9. Hippogriff (Complete "The High Keep" main quest/exploration)
  10. Kneazle (Found in the highlands through exploration)
  11. Diricawl (Found in the highlands through exploration)
  12. Graphorn (Complete "San Bakar's Trial" main quest/exploration) *Not available before the quest is completed.
  13. Phoenix (Complete the "Phoenix Rising" side quest) *Must complete the quest. **There is a glitch that sometimes allows you to rescue the Phoenix with your nab-sack at the beginning of the quest. Do not do this, or you will be unable to complete the quest. You will have the Phoenix, but the fourth and final vivarium will never open up.

Adverse Reactions Between Beasts:

As you may or may not have already discovered, certain beasts find cohabitating with other species uncomfortable -- even to the point of rearing up or hissing at each other. These are the negative interactions I have observed in the game.

  • Unicorns & Thestrals do not get along (Mostly on the Unicorns' part)
  • Kneazles & Diricawls do not get along (The Kneazles hiss and scare the Diricawls)
  • Fwoopers & Phoenix do not get along (The Phoenix is having none of the Fwoopers' nonsense)
  • Niffler & Hippogriff do not get along (The Hippogriffs hiss and squawk angrily at the Nifflers)
  • Giant Purple Toad & Jobberknoll do not get along
  • Graphorn & Mooncalf do not get along (Graphorns' roars scare the Mooncalfs)
  • Puffskeins seem to be the most amiable beasts in the game, seemingly getting along with all other species -- maybe because it's hard to be annoyed with such cute, cuddly beasts.

Vivariums Preferences:

The following are beast preferences based on biomes/areas each beast is generally found in and my observations of how they react in the four different vivarium biomes. Preference does not mean it's the only vivarium in which a particular beast will thrive or be happy.

  • Diricawl prefers the Coastal Vivarium
  • Graphorn prefers Coastal Vivarium
  • Phoenix prefers Grasslands Vivarium (Default)
  • Unicorns prefer Woods Vivarium
  • Giant Purple Toads prefer Swamp Vivarium
  • Thestrals prefer Swamp
  • Mooncalfs don’t have a preference but are nocturnal and might prefer the Swamp's constant darkness
  • Puffskeins don't seem to have a Vivarium preference.

The Final Distribution Analysis:

Ok, so here's the information you're undoubtedly searching for:

  • Woods Vivarium:
    • Inhabitants: Unicorn, Puffskein, Kneazle
    • Rationale: Unicorns thrive here; the other two are compatible and non-preferential.
  • Swamp Vivarium:
    • Inhabitants: Giant Purple Toad, Thestral, Mooncalf
    • Rationale: This setup capitalizes on the Toads and Thestrals' preferences while providing a dark environment for nocturnal Mooncalfs.
  • Coastal Vivarium:
    • Inhabitants: Diricawl, Graphorn, Niffler, Fwooper
    • Rationale: Both Diricawls and Graphorns favor Coastal regions. Nifflers and Fwoopers are also compatible here.
  • Grasslands Vivarium:
    • Inhabitants: Phoenix, Jobberknoll, Hippogriff
    • Rationale: Phoenixes prefer Grasslands. Jobberknolls and Hippogriffs are also happy in this environment and are primarily placed here to prevent conflicts with other beasts.

How to tell if your beasts are happy:

From my observations, there are at least two ways to determine the happiness of the magical beasts you have rescued from across the highlands.

  1. Stand back and watch them for about 5-10 minutes. Do they lay down/rest/land on trees (birds)? Then they are comfortable (not agitated). Upon observation, if you discover your beasts wander without resting, seem agitated, or even react to other beasts, they may not be happy.
  2. When you visit your vivarium (with auto feeder), you should only have to brush them to receive materials. If you have to brush them then wait for them to go to the feeder when you are there (or you have to feed them manually, even if you have an auto feeder) consider they may not be happy with the vivarium and/or their companions.

Conclusion:

This methodically derived setup ensures each beast enjoys their preferred environment and maintains harmony by avoiding conflicts. I've set up my own vivarium this way. With this setup, I have observed that ALL beasts seem extremely content, happy, friendly, and thrive.

This is my VERY FIRST post to Reddit, so please be kind, although thoughts and feedback on this endeavor in Hogwarts Legacy would be appreciated. Most importantly, I sincerely hope this post was helpful and makes your gameplay more enjoyable.

This is phenomenal. I put an automatic feeder and toy in each room and never paid attention to them to tell whether or not they had problems. There’s so little consequence in this game I just didn’t really care (I also skip all the dialogue, I have adhd I’m too impatient) or notice. I’m going to go shuffle my occupants now.

Excellent and thorough post. Thanks!!

"Breed 10 Unique Beasts"

Posted by DeezNutzington · in r/HarryPotterGame · 6 months ago

What's the easiest way to get the achievement for breeding 10 unique beasts? The only beasts I've yet to find (catch) a mate for are the Hippogriff, the Graphorn, the Unicorn, and the Phoenix. Is there an easy way to actually CATCH these beasts, because no matter what I try, they run off before I can get them into the Nab Sack. I've tried Disillusionment, Invisibility Potion, and all the yellow spells, but still no luck. Please help!

You can go back to that area and catch another. I think you still need to fight it, but it's easier. Also only one spawns at a time, so you might have to return more than once to get the gender you need.

Graphorn hippogriff and unicorn are all catchable and breedable.

As soon as you see one, cast Accio once or twice till it’s dangling right in front of you, then cast glacius and immediately start using the knapsack. If it does get away before you finish, quickly jump on broom, fly a bit to catch up, quickly land and Accio + knapsack.

Accio is op.

Shiny beasts

I found a shiny thestral after ages of searching in the most far away den - keep trying, you'll find one! I realise I was absurdly lucky with the shiny creatures in my first run though, my second has not been so easy

Rarest magical creatures in hogwarts legacy

Key Considerations for Rarest Magical Creatures in Hogwarts Legacy:

  1. Unique Creatures: Some magical creatures are considered rare due to their unique traits or limited appearances in the game. These include:

    • Thestrals: Winged horses that can only be seen by those who have witnessed death.
    • Graphorn: A powerful creature known for its strength and aggressive nature.
    • Diricawl: A magical bird that can vanish and reappear, often mistaken for a dodo.
  2. Habitat and Availability: Certain creatures are found in specific locations or under particular conditions. Exploring various biomes and completing quests can increase your chances of encountering them.

  3. Quest-Related Creatures: Some rare creatures may only appear during specific quests or storylines, making them harder to find unless you progress through the game.

  4. Collecting and Caring: Engaging in creature care activities can also lead to discovering rare creatures. Building relationships with them may unlock new interactions or breeding opportunities.

Takeaways:

  • Exploration is Key: Thoroughly explore the game world and complete side quests to increase your chances of encountering rare creatures.
  • Focus on Specific Locations: Pay attention to areas known for certain magical creatures, as this can help you locate them more efficiently.
  • Engage with the Story: Progressing through the main storyline may introduce you to rare creatures that are integral to the plot.

By focusing on these aspects, you can enhance your experience in discovering the rarest magical creatures in Hogwarts Legacy!
