Overall Reception
Street Fighter 6 has been met with widespread acclaim, being described as possibly the best fighting game at launch by some reviewers [1:1]. The game is praised for its comprehensive content and accessibility to both casual and competitive players, contrasting sharply with the launch conditions of its predecessor, Street Fighter V
[1:4]. Many players express that SF6 feels complete and polished, offering a balanced roster and engaging gameplay for various types of players
[3:1].
Content and Features
SF6 offers a robust set of features that cater to different player preferences. The World Tour mode is highlighted as an innovative way to introduce new players to the game's mechanics gradually, making it easier for them to learn without being overwhelmed [1:9]. The game also includes fun modes for casual play, such as Extreme Battles, and boasts the best single-player content in the series' history
[1:5]. Additionally, quality-of-life features like replay takeover enhance the overall experience
[3:7].
Control Schemes and Accessibility
The introduction of modern control schemes has been a significant talking point. These controls are designed to be more accessible, allowing players who may struggle with traditional inputs to enjoy the game [4:3]. While there are concerns about their impact on high-level play, they have been well-received for making the game more inclusive
[4:5].
Community and Competitive Scene
The professional fighting game community (FGC) has responded positively to SF6, with notable figures praising its design and potential impact on the genre [1:12]. The game is seen as addressing many of the issues present in previous entries, and its tournaments are considered exciting and entertaining
[3:12].
Technical Performance
While the game runs smoothly on most systems, some users have reported performance issues on PC, particularly on lower-end hardware [2:6]. However, Capcom's engine is generally praised for balancing visual fidelity and performance across a wide range of platforms
[4:6].
In summary, Street Fighter 6 is celebrated for its comprehensive content, accessibility, and improvements over past installments. It caters to both newcomers and veterans, making it a standout entry in the fighting game genre.

Street Fighter 6 is an exceptional addition to this revered series, poised to secure its longevity for years to come. With its revolutionary combat mechanics and distinctive character designs, this title promises to captivate both players and spectators alike. Moreover, the implementation of novel control systems and offline modes, such as the Word Tour, offers new players a compelling incentive to explore the game. Overall, Street Fighter 6 is a masterpiece that has undoubtedly raised the bar for the entire franchise.

Street Fighter 6 provides the fast and furious action you'd expect from the refined fighting series, offering a dynamic cast of characters, new control modes to make it more accessible, and a variety of features to keep you busy. Its story mode is a campy take on the Street Fighter universe that doesn't always land the winning blow, however; while it's filled with distractions and civilian fighters to take on, it can be a little repetitive and shallow. Still, the technical foundations that Street Fighter stands on are as solid as ever, and with a whole world to battle online, there's a lot of fighting on the menu in what is once again a polished, exciting fighting experience that will keep fans engaged for years.

Without a doubt, Street Fighter 6 is the best and most accessible entry in the long-running series. Anyone can jump in, and there is a lot of content to keep you busy and practicing on the road to World Champion.

Street Fighter 6 rights the wrongs of its predecessor while dragging the famous fighting game franchise kicking and screaming into the modern era.

With a slew of fighting games on the horizon like Tekken 8 and the recently announced Mortal Kombat 1, Street Fighter 6 is leading the charge in the most vibrant way possible. With a series of character guides, story campaigns for classic characters and a fantastic open world for you to take the fight to the streets, it feels like everything I could have asked for from a modern Street Fighter entry.
Despite being the sixth game in the mainline series, Street Fighter 6 is easily one of the most accessible and makes for a fantastic entry point for newer players, while still resonating with series veterans.
GameGrin - Mike Crewe - 9.5 / 10
The most complete Street Fighter title to date, Street Fighter 6 is a must-play for fighting game fans, and one to consider even if you're not familiar with the genre. An engaging, stylish beat 'em up that could well be king of the mountain for years to come.
Gaming Nexus - Joseph Moorer - 10 / 10
Capcom has given us a complete game right out of the box. The single player experiences are enormous. The online experience is perfect. Street Fighter lore is littered in every nook and cranny of this game. There are modes and modes within modes. This is one of the best Street Fighter games in the history of the franchise. If Capcom hurt you in the past, this is their apology. Street Fighter 6 is a new classic that people will be playing for years to come.
GamingTrend - Jack Zustiak and Abdul Saad - 95 / 100
Street Fighter 6 takes the series to the next stage with a wildly fun fighting system that emphasizes personal choice. Each mainline Street Fighter tends to define its era of fighting games in some way, and Street Fighter 6 confidently steps forward to that next era. From its battle system to its bevvy of modes such as World Tour, it dives deep into everything that makes fighting games great.
God is a Geek - Sean Smith - 10 / 10
Street Fighter 6 is without question the best fighting game package I have ever played, and will keep you going far longer than a one-on-one fighter has any right to be able to. A true classic.
Inverse - De'Angelo Epps - 10 / 10
Capcom’s latest takes everything you’d expect from the father of the fighting genre and turns it up to 10. There’s something for everyone here, with no fat or filler to ruin the experience. Street Fighter 6 is the best fighting game experience in a long time, and in the years to come, its impact and legacy could be every bit as massive as Street Fighter 2.
MonsterVine - Spencer Legacy - 4.5 / 5
Street Fighter 6 is a grand fighting game experience that just keeps building on the series’ strong foundation. Though the World Tour mode and new characters aren’t as stand-out as they could be, the core gameplay is excellent and there’s plenty to enjoy.
Nexus Hub - Keegan Govender - 9 / 10
Street Fighter 6 is not just a comeback for Capcom, but for fighting games entering next-generation consoles as a whole. It feels like a passion project made by a group of people who were tasked by Capcom to make the last Street Fighter we would ever want to play. With its fast-paced gameplay, beautifully implemented new mechanics, and timeless visuals, Street Fighter 6 has solidified itself among the fighting game hall of fame.

This is the first Street Fighter game in a long time where it feels like players of all skill levels are welcome. While World Tour mode is disappointing, the sheer scope of SF6 means you don't need to wait for the inevitable Ultra Edition before jumping in.
PSX Brasil - Ivan Nikolai Barkow Castilho - Portuguese - 95 / 100
Street Fighter 6 is another Capcom hit. It's a complete package, offering plenty of content and accessibility for every type of player. The fighting mechanics are varied, fun and take a long time to master. The World Tour mode is interesting and offers something varied for the series, even if it has some issues.
PowerUp! - Charbel Asmar - 9 / 10
At launch, Street Fighter 6 is set to take the fighting game genre to another level
Prima Games - Matt Vatankhah - 9.5 / 10
In a sense, Street Fighter VI is the full package. It’s a three-course meal and then some, filling you up to the brim and serving you every dish on the dessert menu whether you’re ready for the check or not. It’s bursting with style, swagger, and abundant sophistication, and it’s the perfect entry for newcomers and veterans alike.

Street Fighter 6 is one of the easiest on-ramps to the deep world of fighting games, appealing to casual players and veterans alike. With a diverse roster, meaty gameplay, and flashy animations, this will be a FGC staple for years to come.

Street Fighter 6 doesn't need recommending to hardcore fighting fans – you all already know how incredible it is – but do I recommend it for more casual players? Street Fighter 6 has a real sense of community, welcoming all players old and new, teaching new tricks and providing something for those that just want a bit of fun. This is truly a fighting game for everyone.

Street Fighter 6 delivers a deep, complex, and satisfying fighting game bristling with fun new characters and an excellent multiplayer mode. Unfortunately, all of that's shackled to a truly terrible single-player RPG that stands as one of the most embarrassing things Capcom has released in years. If you're here for online play, you'll love it. If you want single-player action, stay far away.
Worth Playing - Cody Medellin - 9 / 10
Street Fighter 6 succeeds in its ambition to cram some big things into one fighting game. Battle Hub may be silly, but it has a lot more personality and more to do than most other titles with their own online lobbies. Fighting Ground does a great job of showing off the new roster and improvements to the fighting engine, while placing an equal amount of attention on both offline and online players. World Tour makes for a somewhat nonsensical yet addictive adventure that can serve as a good basis for a full-fledged Street Fighter RPG. All of this is tied together with a presentation that does well in improving what came before it, only with more fidelity and flash. As stated at the beginning of this review, fighting game fans are going to have a good year, and Street Fighter 6 is an excellent component of that.
XboxEra - Nick Baker - 9 / 10
Xbox players have had to wait a long time for Street Fighter to come back to the platform, and luckily got the best iteration yet.
Better than expected. I mean, I expected the game to be great, but I also thought there was a ceiling on what scores a fighting game could get from modern media
Most reviews tend to focus on games as a "product," and are more likely to care about how much "content" there is: note, for example, how many of the review snippets mention the game's "World Tour" story mode where you design a custom character, run around in an open world, and can challenge random NPCs to fight.
The IGN review begins with:
Remember when Street Fighter 5 came out and a lot of people were disappointed by its distinct lack of meat on its bones? Street Fighter 6 is the polar opposite. Complete with an excellent 18-character roster of both new and returning fighters rendered in a killer new art style, an incredibly ambitious online Battle Hub that puts all other online fighting game lobby systems to shame, and just about everything you could ever ask for when it comes to training tools and systems to help you get better at fighting games, it’s a spectacularly feature-rich fighting game.
Most people who plan to play the game for 200+ hours likely don't care very much about how "feature-rich" the game is, but someone who might only play for 20 hours probably cares a lot more about how many modes there are, and that's who the audience for these sorts of reviews is going to be. (The people who do intend to play for 200+ are much more likely to turn to a fighting game content creator as a buying guide -- or, alternatively, show up to their weekly meetup and see that half of the setups are for SF6 and figure, "Okay, I guess now I'm playing this game, unless I can persuade someone here to keep playing KOF with me.")
If you look at fighting games that have received high scores, they tend to be ones that have lots of supplementary modes (like some of the newer Mortal Kombat games that come with extensive story modes, and Smash Bros which has no shortage of single-player content with modes like Brawl's Subspace Emissary and Ultimate's World of Light). Street Fighter V was mostly panned at launch due to launching in an incomplete mode that lacked basic features at launch (even lacking a basic arcade mode), but Street Fighter IV is one of the top-rated games of all time on Metacritic (the PS3 version has a metascore of 94/100), making it one of the highest-scoring PS3 games of all time).
The ceiling only applies to games where the fighting is basically all there is to do.
I adore Guilty Gear Strive. It’s probably the most fun I’ve ever had in a fighting game. Can I recommend it to people who don’t have the time and/or desire to spend hours learning it’s ins and outs in order to get the most out of it? HEEEEEELLLLLL no. There’s nothing but the fighting, and while the fighting is top notch, that’s not enough for the vast majority of players.
SF6 isn’t just a toolset you study and improve at like a lot of fighters have been. It’s a complete video game with tons of options, customization, and a fleshed out story mode. When you take the time to make your fighter an entire-ass game and not just a medium for sport, then the ceiling evaporates.
Tbf the story mode doesn’t sound that fleshed out in a lot of reviews.
story mode is a campy take on the Street Fighter universe that doesn't always land the winning blow, however; while it's filled with distractions and civilian fighters to take on, it can be a little repetitive and shallow
Fighting games can be huge. Mortal Kombat has been huge in casual circles since MK9. It know show to keep things simple and focus on spectacle. That's the lesson SF6 learned.
A beautiful return to form for Capcom's fighting game division. They manage to create a ton of content at launch, found ways to make it more easy for casuals to get into while still catering to the competitive audience.
Pretty much the exact opposite conditions SFV and MvCI launched in.
I've never played a fighting game before but probably going to get SF6. Is there anything specific they do to cater for casuals, because I definitely am a casual
To expand on the "new control schemes" - they're not limited as much as older "simplified control scheme" methods, and, in fact, some pro players have been saying that they may be preferable in competitive play for certain characters.
Also, lots of fun modes for casual players - Extreme Battles (like MK9's goofy battle mode, where there are tons of gimmicks like Bulls that run through the stage, or a Bomb you whack at eachother like a giant ball), the single player mode is easily the best content SF has had for single player ever, no contest, and the ability to make your own custom character and battle them against other players' creations online.
One very important thing is the World Tour mode. You start off without most of the game's mechanics, and it introduces them to you as it goes on. This prevents you having to try and learn everything all at once! So you can practice and get the simple stuff down before moving onto the other stuff.
Most action games do this. You don't start off with every power, every combo or every ability at the start, you unlock them as you go, easing you into the game's systems. Fighting games do not do this. It is difficult to do it, honestly. But SF6 is doing so with its single player mode which I think will help new comers immensely!
Based on the betas alone I can confirm the game is amazing and will revolutionize fighting games. It kind of fixes issues they’ve all had from the beginning. Don’t even care about the single player stuff but love that it’s in there for people that want it.
And if you follow the professional FGC side of the series then you've been hearing all of the praise from them for months now. These are people who love and breathe Street Fighter in some cases. It's their livelihood, and they could tell quickly that this entry was going to be special.
Guys like Daigo Umehara, Justin Wong, Smug, etc. Have been singing it's praises nonstop. All of these people, most especially the first two were regularly brutally honest in their distaste for SF5 too. So they aren't biased.
My review for Rock Paper Shotgun
Quite possibly the best fighting game I’ve ever played at launch (if you ignore the performance issues on PC)
A gym mate told me that if I am into Fighting games, Street Fighter 6 is a must play.
I checked it up and realised that it's a highly critically acclaimed game but I see in this subreddit hardly (almost no one) talks about this game!
So let's discuss this game here!!
best fighting game for me
Its a pretty good game honestly The characters are great Gameplay is great
>The characters are great
I am more of a tekken guy
Latest game is really unoptimized I can't even run it on laptop on very low graphics without fps drops
It’s a Street Fighter, which automatically makes it the best fighting game 😁
For the last few weeks I've been rotating between Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, City of the Wolves, Granblue Rising and now also GG Strive since it just added ranked mode. While I like all the games it really highlights how much easier SF6 is to play. Not in terms of gameplay (which I find very difficult compared to the rest) but for everything outside the game part of the game.
Definitely the best training mode features and the greatest amount of options. Granblue is the next closest since it has character guides and combo trials directly accessible from training. That might put it above SF6 for me if everything else was equal, but the ability to queue for online matchmaking from the pause screen makes SF6 the winner by itself. It saves so much time compared to exiting training mode, loading the main menu, picking ranked, then loading back into training mode while waiting for matches. Same for leaving the ranked queue and going back to training.
SF6 also offers much more data to the player compared to any other recent fighting game. It's very easy to see win rates per character / matchup, number of games played per mode / character, and even more detailed stuff too.
In addition to all that, SF6 also lets you pick your own stage, music, challenge screen and even opponent's costume & color independent of your opponent, all of which is nice.
In comparison, City of the Wolves doesn't even have character-specific ranks or random settings for stage and music choices in online modes. Barely any play data either. The training mode menus are also kind of a mess, but that's true for Tekken 8 as well. Both of those have good customization options, as does Granblue, but SF6 still feels way better to hop in and out of to me.
People usually disagree but imo SF6 is the best fighting game of all time. It feels good, complete and accessible with the game itself providing easy ways to improve yourself with a balanced roster that doesn't feel too bullshit making overall a fun experience for any type of player.
I love SF6, I just don't enjoy the roster that much
It's extremely well polished, but I just don't think it's super fun. At least back when I used to play, I was basically playing like 75% Ken's, and another 20% played Cammy and Ed. And since there's very little customization, even if you pay money, because there's like, one costume per character, things get really stale really fast. In Tekken, even if 80% of people played the same character, at least there'd be a little variety because everyone's got their own silly outfit going on.
I'm also not really a fan of Drive Impact. Being incentivized to use only the same few cancelable normals for most of the game so that you can reverse drive impact adds even more to the staleness. The game really warps itself around that mechanic. Link combos are also my least favorite. Additionally, the mix of modern/classic controls is, uh, something. It feels bad to be a classic player, and not have access to one-button DP's and reversal supers. It completely changes how you'd play, as opposed to fighting a fellow classic player, having to actually input their double quarter circles and such.
But it's still a great game, if you're the target audience for it. Just not for me.
DI is weird. At low levels of play everyone spams it because everyone is bad and the opponent doesn't have the reactions to counter it. At mid level it falls off heavily as people do it predictably and have it get reacted to...but at high level people are actually smart about it and pretty much only use DI as a hard read/counter to specific options or to threaten burnout. That is is when it actually becomes fun to play around. For me, at least. At low level you feel like you're getting punked, at mid level you don't really know how to use it yet, at high level it adds a pretty interesting layer of mixups and tactics.
For example: I recently watched a pro player review a match, and in a baited DP situation where I'd have done a regular high damage combo, they considered doing DI into a combo that ended into DI again to burn out the opponent, since DI also deals drive damage. So you'd trade straight out HP damage for putting the opponent into a situation that is very likely to end with you dealing even more damage. I find stuff like that really interesting. Another example: I've seen someone (I think Brian F, in one of the Sajam Slams) do drive rush on block into DI to bait a reversal DP, that's also fun.
I definitely feel that staleness you mention, though. The actual game warping mechanic, to me, is drive rush. It's just that way too many popular characters have gameplans that revolve around a low into drive rush cancel into taking you across 40-60% of the screen, and those characters usually have really strong corner oki with a throw loop. So it's just kind of boring to fight against. I really like SF6 when playing against the characters who don't do that.
I would agree and honestly I hate playing Street Fighter compared to other games. It's a nice package, I think the fact they can't roll out costumes fast enough is an Achilles Heel honestly
Because people generally mix up "best" with "favorite". Even tho I don't play sf6, I find it's tournaments extremely good to watch. Very hype and entertaining.
The only thing I don't like about sf6 is that you can't really train with DLC characters without paying money, and no that renting-out system for a short while doesn't count.
Is there any fighting game that lets you lab DLC characters without buying them though? I find it hard to knock SF6 for that when literally no one else is doing it either.
I agree. SF6 feels great to play because it has so many convenient features. The option to watch a replay directly from the rematch screen and also replay takeover are so awesome. I love it.
SF VI is just the most feature complete fighting game I've every played. It has everything a casual and a more hard-core player would want
SF6 is also the only one that gives you an RPG to let you learn the game and have fun while doing it.
Sf6 added replay takeover like a year after launch, probably copied it from tekken 8 (who might have copied it from something else)
as someone that never played the other street fighter games i found the classic control scheme overwhelming. the modern control scheme felt so much nicer to use, though i understand why older fans wouldnt like it.
Well it’s like playing any genre for the first time. If you had never played an FPS the idea of controlling the camera separately from the movement would be crazy. Now imagine they made a “modern” scheme for shooters where 1 stick auto moved & aimed to a degree. That’s roughly the equivalent to SF6’s new approach to accessibility.
I personally don’t care, provided it has obvious disadvantages at high level competition.
Everybody's fine with Modern controls existing from a casual standpoint (with the only problem being that it might make it difficult to adapt to other fighting games if you get into the genre), the current problem seems to be that even some pros have been using it. We have yet to see if it's gonna be a balance problem or if it's just powerful cause it's early.
Modern control scheme is a W idc. Been into fighting games since I was young but could never fully enjoy them apart from tekken cos as a dyslexic person I’d straight up just get the inputs wrong. Instead of QCF I’d do OCB cos my brain would flip what I wanted to do in my head. Now I can be somewhat competitive while taking more time to learn the classic inputs properly.
Capcom has one of the very few engines in 2023 that strike the perfect balance between being good looking and offering good framerates on a large variety of hardware without any major technical issues.
The 2-5% Denuvo performance hit doesnt matter when the games run that well. On the other hand another UE4 game chock-full of UE5 features the engine wasn't designed for, suffers a lot more from the Denuvo hit.
Capcom simply can't miss.
Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8 and MK: 1 all, hell of a year for fighting games
Hell yeah it is. Although I just picked up MKX, MK11, and Injustice 2 off Steam with all the DLC for $16, so I am a year or 2 behind with my fighting games.
Judging by the 2 sentences I am able to read in between ads in the 40 pixels of space between the sticky header and the gigantic sticky Best Buy ad at the bottom, it sounds like a pretty decent game!
I saw the gameplay videos. It looks decent.
Really makes you feel like fighterman
Pretty sure noone thinks the game will fail. Obviously capcom putted a lot of money in making something decent after the failure of SFV which almost destroyed their SF brand by itself.
Modern on the other hand is more of a joke than a complain. When people say they cant do a hadouken or a shoryuken, they just get laughed at for obvious reasons.
Haven't been keeping up with its release which is right around the corner. How does the FGC feel about the gameplay in its current state?
It's positive, but you should hop in and see for yourself. The open beta is running and lets you try half the roster.
I’m a KOF/Garou player and from what I’ve played, this is going to be my favorite SF since SF3rd strike. Plays smooth, solves some of the static movement issues compared to KOF and Chun Li’s win animation… could solve everything that’s wrong with the world.
I hated SF5. SF6 is a blast though. Grabbing it on release.
I was so lukewarm on SF4 and 5 that I wasn't expecting to have any interest in 6. Then they put out that graphic last year that explained the whole Drive system, and it immediately indicated that they cared about what people like me thought of those last two games.
Bussin
There is an open beta right now, just go on the street fighter 6 website to sign up and you can play it this weekend.
He might not have the appropriate system
Capcom really hit it out of the park with this one! What doesn't this game excel in?
Excellent fighting system. Great single player experience. Excellent netcode. Excellent graphics. Great soundtrack. Great dlc. Great new characters. Fun new mechanics for beginners and experts. Loads of content and support.
Compared to the current competition, it's a no brainer. SF6 is supreme. But where do you think it ranks all time? I believe by the end of its cycle, it will recognized as the greatest street fighter ever made as an overall complete package.
What do you guys think?
it’s indisputably the best in nearly every auxiliary aspect: best single player content, best training mode, best replay viewer, best netcode, best online hub, best ranking system, etc.
whether you personally think the battle system, roster, and other core-gameplay choices are the best is debatable, but the stuff above really isn’t.
Unfortunately for SF6, I still place it far down the list because I value the battle system, roster and general gameplay above all else. Single player was ambitious but was ridiculously easy and repetitive. Took me forever to complete it because I got bored very quickly and didn’t want to keep going.
Exactly.
World Tour mode was so boring, and the gameplay was clunky and unfun.
The Drive system isn't great, either. Other SF games have had a better combat system.
I was originally so hyped for SF6, and now I don't play it at all. It's very mid-tier for me.
it gets said a lot but still doesn't get said enough is how much time other fighting games waste between matches compared to street fighter 6 any time I'm on another game I notice the time not playing the game when running sets
Then when I'm on sf6 rematching is so absurdly fast with what should be the norm with load times and transitions for the genre and sadly isn't.
This here is the biggest deal of them all.
Getting to play matches is so fast and practical, it makes the experience addicting.
Play win play lose go next go next go next.
We need to talk about this a million times until the other fighting games copy this.
There's a lot to be said about just making it easy to play the game. When I play other games, it can take a while to get into ranked or find matches. I'd rather play any other game Fightcade ranked than play a Discord fighter for this reason, because the ease of getting to play a game is such a huge factor for me.
With SF6, I can basically play whenever. Did I wake up 20 minutes earlier than usual? I can play a couple of sets before getting in the shower. Am I reheating a meal? Sure maybe that's one or two sets.
Like regardless of other qualities a game might have, the base expectation is that I need to be able to at least play the game, and SF6's experience creates such little friction between me and my opponents.
Came to say this. The weakest aspect of SF6 is the soundtrack.
It's not terrible, but the series has a history of awesome music that it simply didn't live up to.
Thankfully the rest of the game compensates.
there are others that beat it in one area or another (music, presentation, ui) but complete package vs complete package, street fighter 6 is the best one and it's not close
it is hands down the most balanced, has the best single player content, best netcode, best training mode, best ranking system, best character designs, best costumes and best roster
third strike is beautiful and has great music but it is simply not balanced at all. alpha 3's world tour is a lot of fun but it's nothing compared to sf6's and A3 is one of the least balanced fighters of all time
Most balanced isn't inherently positive, there's nothing wrong with having stronger characters.
6 has a bit of an issue with sameyness across a lot of characters, nothing is particularly interesting mechanically, partially because of Universal Mechanics partial because of the design philosophy.
It's a great game but even V had more variety in it's game via character interactions, even if everything devolved into crush counter stun combos.
This comment cannot be upvoted enough.
Pre-launch the whole vibe of SF6 was on classic characters as much as the newest generation.
Because of that they should have had two soundtracks, one with the new sound, and then another with updates on the old classic soundtracks.
Look at the new Mario Kart for example. The soundtrack in that game is amazing. New and Classics reworked in a perfect balance.
Capcom just can't find its sound. The intro menu screen of the recent collection and the previous marvel collection both have better songs than any of the SF6 ones.
Well SF6 soundtrack itself ain't great but since you can put the music from most other Capcom fighting games I fuck with it.
As a former designer I completely agree. To be fair other Capcom games have really weird UI/UX options as well, but SF6 takes the trophy. It's not intuitive at all.
So, I know it's only season 3, but I got to say, I have played it for like 8 months now, and I have never enjoyed a fighting game this much ever before, and it's by far the one I have played the most. I find the gameplay very enjoyable, even when the basics are the same, every character feels different, graphics are very nice, etc... I Would definitely put it up on a top tier list. So what's ur take on this?
I mean yeah probably. If you look at sf6 as a whole there are very few games in the genre that do as much well as it does without some major flaws or omissions. There are a lot of amazing fighting games but few of them have the sheer amount of single player content. Online functionality that is one of if not the best the genre seen or just gameplay thats really fucking good. Most fighting games have one maybe two of these down and not to much the rest. The fact that the majority of even good fighting games have dog shit online features alone puts sf6 above the pack.
It's also the biggest fighting game in terms of tournament entry I've ever seen. Maybe there were some old ones that surpassed it that I wasn't around for, but SF6 seems absolutely huge to me in terms of numbers.
I don’t really like ranking fighting games that are in development against games that are their final version. They might do something in the future to completely ruin the game, but if they keep going the way they are, I can definitely see SF6 being one of the best of all time.
After we get a complete "Ultra" version, I think SF6 will go down in history as one of the best, right behind 3rd Strike.
I think the roster of 3rd strike makes it hard to compete after SF6 is roster complete.
It had some great additions for sure , many people here are crying for Makoto and Dudley, but it lacked way too many of the characters you think of when someone talks about the favorites.
Cody, Sakura, Poison, DeeJay, and so on. It’s still one of the GOATs hands down, but I can genuinely see this game surpassing it down the line, and I’m not even putting in the features, but rather the game mechanics themselves.
That said , I would pay good money for the ability to air parry…
i don't know, i still am pretty unsatisfied with sf6's roster. a ton of the newcomers are pretty underwhelming, but sf3 characters are just so fun to play and fight against.
Imho SF6 online kill 99% of the competitors, we do not even need to get to talk about the game itself
Judging by how things tend to happen, it would probably be considered one of the best years after its done its time. I love sf6 to be honest, its what made me go deeper into playing fighting games. However, I think its influence as a whole has been felt, especially with its pull of a more mainstream and general audience such as with the streamer tournaments.
With that said, I'm really curious what would capcom do nextt. What would sf7 be like? Would it live up to SF6? Still too early since I really want sf6 to live long haha
Feels like each SF before tried to fix what was wrong with the previous game, sometimes over correcting.. Sf3 was too weird, so sf4 played it safe with all the classic characters and music.
Sf4 was too turtle and frame link difficult, so 5 was a "push big buttons" game.
5 was too empty and undercooked so 6 was heavily invested into various modes of play, world tour battle hub, avatars, etc.
6 is currently really good but the drive system maybe makes characters feel too similar or forces a certain safe aggression. My guess would be 7 is more about unique character mechanics.
The gameplay is dope, but does show it's age with every combo being short and very tight. I prefer longer and more intricate combos, more mechanics, bigger rosters with more fan favorites, characters having more moves and more options, better balancing... Third strike is still fun, great for what it was, but without Nostalgia glasses there's no way it's better than marvel 3, SF4 or 6, or even what 5 became at the end of it's life. I was just playing Third Steike earlier today on fightcade and having a good time, but comparing a character like Ibuki to how she plays in 4 or 5, she's so much more fun in those games. I feel like you can say that about every third strike character that came back at some point. They're fun in 3S, but more fun and way more fleshed out in later appearances.
If you're talking modern games then I agree. But all time, UMvC3 and SF3 are a lot more hype to watch. And personally, I love KoFXI, and CvS2 more than SF6.
It makes me wish we could have it all. A game with the mechanics as wonderfully refined as sf6, but with a story as good as Injustice
I've got to agree that SF6 really feels like Capcom apologising for SF5. Practically every gripe I've seen levelled at that game and almost request I've seen people wanting from a fighting game is being done with SF6. If you asked me some of the things I'd like to have seen improve it'd have been more modes some of which are silly, less object clipping, supers more akin to SF4's animation and more of them again, a more defined theme, less stubby normals, a continuation of the weighty hit feeling, supers and ex moves not being on the same meter, more mechanical complexity with moves not tied to a V-esque system anymore, and overall a product that feels like it's being treated as fairly as any other property.
And I've gotta say, I'm surprised just how much those hopes have lined up with the direction the devs have taken. I've no doubt it'll have some problems, no fighting game launches perfect, but they have actually impressed me with what they've shown so far and for that I'm genuinely pleased. If the ranking system is fine which I'm sure it will be if it's anything like V's, the rollback all goes smoothly, and there are no tehcnical issues then I think I'd really have to reach to find things to critique.
It helps that Street Fighter 6 was the game Capcom wanted to make from the start.
The original plan for SFV was to have a time skip with radically-redesigned characters and a photorealistic art style, but the pitch was thrown out after being worked on for two years (2011 to 2013).
So after sinking so much money into that one pitch and generally running low on cash thanks to Capcom overspending during that period of time in general, they made SFV a very safe sequel to IV and got funding from Sony to get it across the finish line.
Of course, now that Capcom's loaded thanks to RE7/2/3/Village, Monster Hunter World/Rise, and DMC5, money isn't a problem for them anymore. Not to mention that they have their own in-house photorealistic engine with the RE Engine.
Unless you are a SFIII or Final Fight fan...yeah it does feel like an apology tour.
And part of that is probably because they are feeling the heat from competition and are in much better place at Capcom overall financially.
Yeah true. To be fair one of my biggest critiques would be the roster, but I'm an Akuma main and I already know he's in the works so whether he's base game or not I get my guy early on. Still, regardless it would've been nice to get a bit more variety; it's strange that the game post-SF3 set in Metro City has no SF3 or Final Fight characters in it.
>At its core, Street Fighter 6 still plays like it always has, but there are a few changes that make it feel a bit more modern, like the updated parrying system that doesn’t require perfect timing.
Huh? Have parries ever required perfect timing?
> It feels like a much more welcoming and forgiving Street Fighter, something that 5 almost went out of its way to avoid as nobody but hardened veterans could really get stuck into things
Interesting take
Another reminder that SF is hard for 99.9999% of gamers, and the "easiest" SF game will still feel "unforgiving" to a person who literally plays video games for a living.
And as a veteran, it was already boring after 100hrs in. Homogenized gameplay, stub normals, worse fireballs. No clue who 5 was catering too but it wasn’t casuals OR SF veterans.
Different opinions, but as I really did feel alienated from SFV at the outset and for much of its life. As other fighters added in robust alternatives outside of core PvP, SFV didn’t even launch with an Arcade mode. It was harder for me than usual to really get a grasp of the mechanics and explore its depths offline.
Everything I’m seeing on SF6 is encouraging, from the exhaustive single player modes, lobbies, party modes, and a game-changing training suite for vets and noobs alike. I haven’t seen a fighting game break down its terms and technical strengths to this degree before.
This really does feel like a game that can satisfy the hardcore crowd, but draw in and please casual players as well. I’m rooting for it.
He straight up says Street Fighter is his least favorite fighting game series in paragraph 3.

Checkpoint Gaming - Luke Mitchell - 8.5 / 10
Console Creatures - Patrick Tremblay - Recommended
Without a doubt, Street Fighter 6 is the best and most accessible entry in the long-running series. Anyone can jump in, and there is a lot of content to keep you busy and practicing on the road to World Champion.
Cultured Vultures - Ash Bates - 10 / 10
A sublime fighting game masterpiece from a company at the peak of their powers, Street Fighter 6 is utterly incredible.

Street Fighter 6 rights the wrongs of its predecessor while dragging the famous fighting game franchise kicking and screaming into the modern era.
Fextralife - Castielle - 8.4 / 10
Capcom delivers and checks the majority of the boxes when it comes to the classic and new features of Street Fighter 6. It heads down a different direction making it more casual while maintaining the core values of the game, allowing it to be a mainstream fighting game for all players. However, with its awkward performance on the PlayStation 4. The concern is, will World Tour have more content and will the performance issues be fixed. We hope these will be addressed. In the meantime, it is recommended to play Street Fighter 6 on current-gen consoles and PC to fully appreciate and enjoy this game.
GamesHub - Edmond Tran - 5 / 5
Street Fighter 6 is an exceedingly good fighting game. But more than that, it’s an excellent training tool. It’s a fulfilling adventure. It’s a lively community gathering place. It’s an endearingly idealistic and inspiring world of appreciation for martial arts and friendly competition, exceptionally executed in every respect.
Game Informer - Elijah Gonzalez - 9.5 / 10
Between its cohesive aesthetic, the bounty of clever features, and crisp central gameplay, it’s one of the most impressive entries the genre has seen in some time.
GamesRadar+ - Andi Hamilton - 5 / 5
Street Fighter 6 offers the most flexible, versatile, and expressive combat seen in the series to date. With its fantastic suite of game modes and diverse character roster, Street Fighter 6 has something to offer every type of fighting game fan.
GameSpot - Jason Fanelli - 9 / 10
Capcom's flagship fighter is back in form with intricate but approachable fighting mechanics and a feature-rich package.
GGRecon - Jack Roberts - 4.5 / 5
With a slew of fighting games on the horizon like Tekken 8 and the recently announced Mortal Kombat 1, Street Fighter 6 is leading the charge in the most vibrant way possible. With a series of character guides, story campaigns for classic characters and a fantastic open world for you to take the fight to the streets, it feels like everything I could have asked for from a modern Street Fighter entry.
Despite being the sixth game in the mainline series, Street Fighter 6 is easily one of the most accessible and makes for a fantastic entry point for newer players, while still resonating with series veterans.
Glitched Africa - Marco Cocomello - 9.5 / 10
Street Fighter 6 could be the best fighting game I have played in a very long time. I am no master at these games and I don’t run out to buy them at launch. However, the game is very fun to play and its real draw for me was its accessibility. I felt good at it even though I really wasn’t. Of course, this is also completely optional too so if you’re a veteran, you’ll enjoy this just as much as noob.
God is a Geek - Sean Smith - 10 / 10
Street Fighter 6 is without question the best fighting game package I have ever played, and will keep you going far longer than a one-on-one fighter has any right to be able to. A true classic.
IGN - Mitchell Saltzman - 9 / 10
Street Fighter 6 is the most feature-rich a Street Fighter has ever been at launch, but even beyond that, it's roster of 18 characters is excellent, the new mechanics revitalize the one-on-one fighting formula, and it absolutely nails all of the little things that make for a stellar fighting game.
Kotaku - Kenneth Shepard - Unscored
It’s a sublime fighter that makes smart changes that honor what makes the series great.
Metro GameCentral - GameCentral - 9 / 10
A far better launch experience than its predecessor, with an excellent fighting system and a wide range of options and features that transcend the usual genre traditions.
Niche Gamer - NECRO XIII - 9 / 10
Ultimately, Street Fighter 6 delivers the fun and proves to be one of the most engaging fighting games of the year and of most recent memory.
PCGamesN - Christian Vaz - 9 / 10
This is the first Street Fighter game in a long time where it feels like players of all skill levels are welcome. While World Tour mode is disappointing, the sheer scope of SF6 means you don't need to wait for the inevitable Ultra Edition before jumping in.
PC Gamer - Mollie Taylor - 89 / 100
Minor technical issues and questionable monetisation scuff what is otherwise one of the best fighting games we've seen in the last decade.
Polygon - Axel Bosso - Unscored
Street Fighter 6 is the ultimate fighting game toolbox
Press Start - James Mitchell - 9 / 10
Street Fighter 6 rights the wrongs of its past with multiple modes for every player and strong battle systems like no other. It invites new players into the fold with well implemented, simpler control schemes, without losing sight of the hardcore player. The World Tour mode won't be for everyone, but Street Fighter 6 stands tall as one of the best fighters Capcom has made.
Push Square - Sammy Barker - 9 / 10
Street Fighter 6 is an absolute humdinger of a sequel. Capcom has created a fighting system that has all of the tactical depth professional players expect but managed to make it fairly easy for casuals to wrap their heads around. Not only that, it's introduced smart ways to onboard newcomers, including a simplified control scheme and a great suite of tutorials, which even extend to the impressively enjoyable RPG-inspired single player story mode. A strong roster of starting characters, near-flawless rollback netcode, and a seemingly never-ending selection of content – including interactive online lobbies with playable retro games – round out another unbelievably impressive effort from the seemingly unstoppable Japanese publisher.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Unscored
Smooth online matches and an impressively in-depth story already put Street Fighter 6 leagues above the competition.
Shacknews - TJ Denzer - 9 / 10
All-in-all, this game rekindled my love of the franchise, and I can’t wait to see how Street Fighter 6 grows over time.
TechRaptor - Robert Scarpinito - 9 / 10
Street Fighter 6 is one of the easiest on-ramps to the deep world of fighting games, appealing to casual players and veterans alike. With a diverse roster, meaty gameplay, and flashy animations, this will be a FGC staple for years to come.
The Outerhaven Productions - 4 / 5
Street Fighter 6 takes all the mistakes made with Street Fighter V and tries to not make them again. From the one on one traditional fights that we know, have been improved thanks to the addition of the Drive Gage mechanics, to the online modes where a lot of people are going to play. There is very little that Street Fighter 6 does that people won't be happy with… Unless you live in Australia… However, the looming nickel-and-dime ride of Season Pass after Season Pass could make things worse down the line. Street Fighter 6 is an easy day-one buy for the hardcore eSports player base, but casual players might want to wait for a year or more for a more complete game before buying.
TheSixthAxis - Nick Petrasiti - 10 / 10
Street Fighter 6 doesn't need recommending to hardcore fighting fans – you all already know how incredible it is – but do I recommend it for more casual players? Street Fighter 6 has a real sense of community, welcoming all players old and new, teaching new tricks and providing something for those that just want a bit of fun. This is truly a fighting game for everyone.
Twinfinite - Keenan McCall - 5 / 5
It’s the epitome of what a fighting game should be, and I can’t wait to see how the series builds off of this return to form
VG247 - Alex Donaldson - 5 / 5
It’s a must-have. And it might just be the most compelling overall fighting game package of all time.
We Got This Covered - David James - 3 / 5
Xbox players have had to wait a long time for Street Fighter to come back to the platform, and luckily got the best iteration yet.
How is it even possible...
They made the greatest action game ever with DMC5, some of the best remakes ever produced with RE2 and 4, my personal favorite action RPGs with MH World/Rise, and now a landmark fighting game. Just in the span of a couple of years.
It can't be understated how precious Capcom is in this day and age.
It's wild the turn around they've had in recent years. I remember after Dead Rising 3, Street Fighter 5, etc, public opinion of the company was in the gutter. Feels like they've realized while their name holds weight, they still have to release a good product. I hope we see some other companies take a similar turn in the near future.
Aight, now bring us Mahvel bay bay. IDC if we only get Avengers vs Street Fighter, keep it small for now.
Almost certainly won't happen the way it needs to, Disney has fully learned to copy the fighting aspect for the supers and stuff for their games, and they wouldn't give Capcom free reign on characters and usage the way they'd need to make it REALLY good.
I'd be pretty happy to see a Capcom Vs Capcom that's been long rumored and talked about in the fan communities. They have one of the deepest character libraries to draw it and make weirdos, you could literally have like 6 different mega-man characters that play completely different, just as an example.
SF, darkstalkers, all the MVC originals, Mega-man, Monster hunter, Resident Evil, DMC, Pheonix wright, Ghouls & goblins, Onimusha, Bionic commando, Breath of fire, Dead rising, Final Fight, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Strider, Dragon's Dogma, Ghost Trick, Power stone.
I would LOVE a CvC game if they took the care and forethought the way they are giving to SF right now.
Marvel comics is dead, which is where all the good crossover content would have been in the past. The MCU is boring and sanitized and they'd be trying to push their new release heroes. I really don't want an MvC that's just full of characters like Kamala Khan cosplaying Ms Marvel or The Falcon cosplaying Captain America, or Shuri cosplaying Black Panther. Itd be trash

Street fighter just putting their balls on the table and telling Tekken and MK what's what. One thing is for sure the fgc is eating well for future.
Capcom is in their Lebron arc entering a second prime.
Lol, I am fine with just waiting to come home that Friday evening to hop online. No rush; got all weekend!
Besides, I'm still running ranked in SFV all week.
Launch day is going to be a massacre for SF6's servers. Just reams and reams of smoldering hardware.
I can't wait!
I’ve never played a street fighter game ever before, I’ve never been a fighting game guy in general because I’m just not that good at them and outside out online there isn’t much to offer with most fighting games.
I picked up street fighter 6 because it just looked really fun and I figured the world tour mode would be good enough content for me, but I’ve found someone just really having fun playing ranked matches, the morden controls actually make it very easy to learn the game, I’ve never had this much fun playing a fighting game ever, maybe that will change once I move up in ranked and start getting washed but for now street fighter 6 is easily the best fighting game I’ve ever touched
it really is amazing, so fun and so competitive. I had no clue what SF was when I dropped 80$ on the game 4months ago other than it had really positive reviews and a fighter. now I have 100 hours enjoyed and many more to come, It is easily one of the best games I've ever played
You’ll become “one of us” when you get washed and learn how to figure out what beat you and get pleasure from learning how to level up your game.
So, when you get washed, try not to treat it as “I suck”. Instead, ask “how do I beat that?”. The satisfaction from pulling it off is oh so sweet
Lmfao played the game for hours for 2 days and I won 4 matches out of dozens
And this is fine. Self improvement will come.
It may help to watch guides on your characters by pros to give you a deeper understanding but you may find some of the language confusing if it is your first fighting game let alone first street fighter.
I don't get frustrated too much losing. I'm not high rank but it's not like my matches are one sided you know? There usually feels like a good effort between me and the other guy with some really close matches just lost to some mistakes. But it's all good because I feel myself get better each matchup
First time I played fighting games was with Tekken 7 I didn't get a win for like three days LOL. Happens to all of us.
Fighting games are cool cuz you level up yourself instead of the characters themselves. All the tools are at your disposal & at first daunting but slowly you learn what situations need
Fighting games are cool cuz you level up yourself instead of the characters themselves.
You know I never thought of it like that, I dislike having to level up characters in games, but I love using the standard toolset to get better.
Great observation.
The matchmaking is easily the best of any Street Fighter games. SF6 actually matches you to an equivalent skilled player and matches are always pretty tight.
The satisfaction of a best out of three set where you get beaten the first match but learn the opponents moves, ticks and tricks (download, the kids call it I believe) to beat him the final two matches is a total buzz kick.
As well as right matches in ranked you have the option of seeking out much stronger players in battle hub as well and can play longer sets. You get the best of both worlds depending on what you want to get out of a session.
Yeah that matchmaking is good, never have I gotten beat because I was out skilled, 9/10 it was because of my mistakes
And they want to give MK1 over SF6??? Lol treason.
