Beaches and Ocean Views
Busan is renowned for its beautiful beaches, which are a major draw for tourists. Haeundae Beach and Gwangalli Beach are two of the most popular spots. Gwangalli Beach offers stunning views of the Gwangan Bridge, especially at night [1:1]. The direct access to the ocean and beaches adds a unique charm to Busan, making it a favorite among visitors who appreciate coastal scenery
[4:1].
Cultural and Historical Sites
Gamcheon Cultural Village is a vibrant area known for its colorful houses and artistic vibe. It's often compared to an open-air museum and provides a great opportunity for photography [1:2],
[1:4]. Yonggungsa Temple, located by the sea, is another must-see attraction that combines natural beauty with cultural significance
[5:4]. Additionally, Taejongdae offers scenic cliffs and panoramic ocean views
[1:4].
Shopping and Entertainment
Centum City is home to the world's largest department store and is a shopping haven for visitors looking to indulge in retail therapy [5:5]. Spa Land, located within Centum City, is highly recommended for relaxation and rejuvenation
[1:5],
[5:2]. For those interested in local markets, Jagalchi Fish Market and Gukje Market offer authentic Korean shopping experiences
[1:1],
[1:4].
Food and Dining
Busan offers a variety of culinary delights, with seafood being a highlight due to its coastal location. Milmyeon (cold noodles) is a refreshing dish to try during hot weather [5:3]. For a unique dining experience, Haenyeonchon near Yonggungsa Temple serves abalone porridge, which is a local specialty
[5:4].
Unique Experiences
For those seeking unique experiences, Songdo Beach features a cable car ride offering panoramic views of the coastline [1:1]. Seomyeon Station is noted for its nightlife and vibrant atmosphere, providing a different side of Busan to explore
[1:4]. The UN Cemetery is also mentioned as a place worth visiting if the weather is nice
[1:6].
I'm considering about going to Busan very soon. It's summer, and I'd like to go to beaches... Last year, I went to Gangneung. The beach was immaculate, but there was little to see in the city. But in Busan, I heard there's a lot of things to explore. Tell me, which tourist hotspots are very interesting in Busan. All I know are the beaches, Korea's biggest mall, and a history museum. Anything else?
gamcheon cultural village, centum city spa land, and the whole dalmaji hill - haeundae beach area are nice! have fun!
I second Spa Land - that place is awesome!
I know I’ve personally wrote a list of good spots in Busan a few times on this sub. How ‘bout using the search function?
how about the links?
Yonggungsa Taejongdae Gamcheon Village Nampo-dong and International Market Seomyeon Station nightlife Dwaeji Gukbap 돼지국밥 Jagalchi Fish Market or the Hway (my way to sound it romanization of the word 회) Center right next to Gwangali Beach
UN Cemetery if the weather is nice.
Aquarium if it's raining (go to their website for a discount coupon).
Here are some ideas on where to stay in Busan.
Here is a detailed itinerary which may help you in your planning.

I may have missed something but that should keep you busy enough for a few days.
For the past few weeks, people in Busan have been buzzing about the sudden surge of foreign tourists. In the past, most of them were Japanese visitors from Kyushu, but these days you see a much wider mix of nationalities. At spots like Shinsegae Spa Land, Gamcheon, Haeundae, and Haedong Yonggungsa, there are actually more foreigners than locals.
Japanese visitors make sense since they’re geographically so close, and the spike in Taiwanese tourists can be explained by the new direct flights between Busan and Taiwan. But for tourists from other countries, there doesn’t seem to be a clear explanation. What do you guys think is driving this trend?
Lol all three answers so far were so ridiculous. Busan has always been the second most popular palce to visit, and it being summer probably helped. Unless we have statistics, its probably just anecdotal numbercounting. No amount of instagrammer fauning over this so called "culture village" or a movie that is now almost a decade old made a significant difference.
And I can't help but laugh at people who say "its more authentic."
They measure visitors numbers every year. Visitors to Busan are exploding.
Busan hit one million foreign tourists this year in record time, which is a 23.7% increase compared to the same period last year. I’m from Busan, and honestly I’ve never seen this many foreigners on the streets before in my life. These days, whenever Koreans visit Busan, they’re always like, “Why are there so many foreigners here?”
But the funny thing is, no one seems to know exactly why. Some people guess it’s because Busan has beaches so of course it’s more appealing than Seoul, or maybe it’s just the food, but no one’s really sure
> Busan hit one million foreign tourists this year in record time, which is a 23.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
South Korea is projected to have a ~20-25% increase in international tourists so Busan's numbers are in line with that
Its the beaches definitely. All tourists visits one or antoher of at least comments on it. In the west beach culture is very high so people are happy busan also likes beaches
? It's the second most visited city in Korea, what do you mean? It's like asking why Kyoto or Osaka or Kansai region in general has a surge of tourists, when in reality it has always been like this. It's always Seoul + Busan/Jeju or another city like Gyeongju or Tokyo + one area in Kansai and another city like Nagoya. Pretty sure most second timers that visit Korea will go to Busan, maybe it's that time now where most people have already visited Seoul.
Train to busan has nothing to do with it for sure.
I agree. I went to South Korea last year, but didn't want to spend all my time in Seoul. I chose Busan, my sister chose Jeju.
Train to Busan was just a bonus for me, but I ended up taking a bus from Gyeongju lol. But I can say I took the Train FROM Busan.
I did fall in love with Busan and would love to go back there. The food was so good and the ocean views stunning!
Busan is always writing articles about how popular Busan is.
Well, Busan is good.
The world is discovering Korea and with Japan filled with tourists South Korea becomes an unique and appealing experience.
Kpop is still not that popular in the west and there is still space to grow, add in the skin care and some health tourist, I think South Korea tourism is growing a lot and will grow a lot in the next 5 years.
“New” media like Solo Leveling, Parasite and K-Pop Demon Hunters do play a role, no joke! (also train to Busan - again no joke)
So Seoul, Busan, Jeju it is.
My last trip was 10 days in Japan followed by 10 days in Korea. Took an overnight ferry from Shimonoseki to Busan. Very easy.
The movie train to busan was very good
The video is a collection of my favorite places in Busan. What are your favorite places in Busan?
Tl; dw?
Hi Currently in Seoul, I visited most palaces, museums and city wall and will finish them off tomorrow, as well suwon. I still have time till 15th with a tour to dmz on 11th, I am considering visiting Busan for 2 days from 12th to 14th, is it worth it? Or should I focus on other attractions in Seoul like Gangnam district (walked there only), hongdae, itaewon? Looking for suggestions.
I love Busan. Check Gwangalli beach, Jagalchi market, maybe the UN cemetery.
I love Busan because I love beaches and water. It’s worth it in my opinion.
Have you been to Incheon? It is 3rd biggest city and you can visit it on way to airport. Busan airport isn't as popular so flights going to be more expensive from there. It makes a difference if you are flying far away.
If I will plan to visit busan I will visit it by train, it’s the best choice. I haven’t been in incheon, is it worth it?
I recommend going to Songdo. It’s a very nice area as it’s a newer city compared to the rest of Incheon. There’s an outlet mall and there’s a Korea Costco there that you can enter if you have a membership. There’s also pockets of areas where it seems much more European compared to the rest of Korea.
I just came back from 14 days in Korea, including 4 in Busan. I loved it even more than Seoul, the direct access to the ocean and beaches really added sth for me. Went by train from Seoul station, stayed in Seomyeon
can i ask you how you booked your train ticket please? I'm considering travelling from seoul to busan by train but I'm not sure if you have to book the train ticket before (like airplane tickets) or if you could buy them in the station?
you can, but i would expect at least the ktx/express train tickets to sell out, as Korea does ticket = seat reservation. I used the Korail app on iPhone (it has a white icon with a stylized ktx train), paid with my credit card. you can "check" your ticket by searching for your name+email on the app itself.
Would you suggest it to go there even for 2 days?
Yeah I’d say it’s worth it
any recommendations on where else to go, don’t mind going popular local spots/hidden spots. generally i think we have gone to enough beaches and sightseeing of the beautiful sceneries, hoping to do some shopping and others.
things we have completed: -jukseong dream open set + yonggungsa temple -haeundae blueline park, x the sky, haeundae beach -gwangalli beach -jeonpo cafe street + street of youth + jungang underground shopping -hocheon village -yongdusan park and busan tower -gukje market + biff square + jagalchi market -gamcheon culture village -songdo beach + cloud walk + marine cable car + suspension bridge
we live near seomyeon if that helps but also dont mind travelling out around busan!
we have also eaten: street food,bbq,sashimi/sushi/seafood and will be eating daeji gukbap but open to more recommendations, be it specific restaurants or in general!
thank you in advance
I also heard Centum city is a must visit, especially to Spa Land to relax and rejuvenate.
For food, I recommend milmyeon (밀면)! It is similar to naengmyeon and sounds so refreshing right now in hot weather
I recommend trying seafood and abalone porridge at a place called Haenyeonchon near Yonggungsa Temple!
Centum City? Outlet mall?
I love the vibes in Busan! ✨Maybe you can watch this travel vlog to get some inspirations: https://youtu.be/JZnYufY_74E
I’ll be in Busan for 3 days in May. What should I add to my must do and must see list? Any recommendations on places to stay? I usually stay in hostels. I would prefer to be close to the transportation system as well. I’m open to any suggestions that will make my trip memorable. Thank you 😊
Stay in Seomyeon. Both lines 1 and 2 of the train come through the station. Great shopping and food options in the area. Can go to Busan Station, Nampo, Jagalchi etc on Line 1 and Gwangan and Haeundae on line 2. So many must dos, depends on what you like to do. Landmarks? Walks? Shopping? Cafes?
Thank you for replying. I’m so excited about my trip. I’m open to doing and seeing everything. Just looking for suggestions. Thank you 😊
You have the Gamcheon cultural village. A definite must do. It’s a unique spot. If you’re into BTS, the mural of JK and Jimin is there and a group one as you walk in. Jimin’s dad owns z-millennial cafe in Busan as well too, and there’s lots of memorabilia there. In Yeongdo-gu there is also the Huinnyeol cultural village. The Jeoryeong coastal walk, also in Yeongdo-gu, is lovely. In Songdo there is the cloud walk and cable cars. In Oryukdo, there is a small sky walk and an entrance to the Igidae coastal walk. There are also skywalks in Haeundae (near the observatory). And of course, Haeundae also had the blue line sky capsules and beach train. I would also recommend walking around Dongbaekseom at the west end of Haeundae beach. A nice walk with lovely views. The view from the APEC building is really good. Haeundae also has a food market which is very vibrant at night time, and there is Jagalchi market if you like seafood. Ooh…I nearly forgot the seaside temple…Haedong Yonggungsa. There is a lot to do. I suggest choosing some different general locations and seeing what’s in the area. Public transport is relatively simple but you need to factor time into it. You just need a t money card. If you go to the temple, I would suggest taking a taxi or uber as a more direct way of transport. It’s not overly expensive for that here. The uber app works quite well here.
I enjoyed staying in the Gwangan area - booked a cheap airbnb with a wonderful view of the sea and it was nice to wake up in the morning with that right there and the night view is equally as breathtaking. Lots of restaurants and cafes in the area also, buses and subway also there.
Depends on what you’re into - Haeundae beach area has a lot of things to do. There’s a traditional market there with foods and shopping. In the area, we did the blue line park walk in contrast to getting on the train or capsule, it was about 1.5h long and it was so good with lots of sights to see and stop at but it won’t be so enjoyable if you don’t like walking a lot. In front of the blue line park entrance across the road there is a salt bread shop called Jayeondo, that’s all they sell and it’s soooooo good. You’ll see as usually there’s a little line but they process quickly.
If you enjoy walking, we continued all the way to the Haedong Yonggunsa temple which is a beautiful seaside temple. We just got an Uber back to our area after this destination.
As for food, you’re absolutely spoilt for choice - anywhere, everywhere is gonna be good.
Download naver maps and kakao maps - google maps is not as good in Korea but those two are so helpful. Kakao taxi is also good but I’ve also had good luck with Uber.
Anyways, it really all depends on what you’re into but there is no doubt you will have a wonderful time. Give yourself some pockets in your itinerary to just be and not over plan. 🥰
Thank you for sharing. I decided to stay in the Gwangan area. Highly recommended and the bridge lit up at night is amazing
Gwangan Beach - Nammè is a great jazz bar. Don't know if HQ Gwangan is still around but it's a great foreigner bar with live music
HQ Gwangan is still open 👌🏻
Love live music, especially jazz. Thank you for the recommendation
HQ still going strong. OP—if you let me know the dates you’re coming, i can give you live music advice in town, whether it be at HQ or another venue
Any where I can watch drone show?
Drone show- Gwanganli beach on Saturday night at 8pm or 9pm
If you’re visiting Busan, don’t miss out on catching a game at the legendary Sajik Baseball Stadium — it’s more than just a game, it’s an experience. The crowd energy, the synchronized chants, and the non-stop cheering make it one of the wildest and most fun things you can do in the city.
Bring your cheer gear!!
Let’s go Lotte!!! 🎉🧡
does anyone know how I can get tickets to the game on sunday for me and my girlfriend? i dont have any account with them and it seems difficult to do.
Explore the bustling markets, visit scenic beaches like Haeundae, and experience cultural landmarks such as Gamcheon Culture Village in Busan.
Get on a train.
Capture point ASAP using a teleporter
Seek shelter from the zombies..
There is so much to see and do in Busan! Be sure to visit famous beaches, sample local delicacies, explore cultural attractions, and enjoy breathtaking views from the city's observation decks
I keep seeing these pretty standard itinerary suggestions, but I'm curious to hear from people who've actually been, what things they remember most and would consider their favorite moments?
I really enjoyed Makgeolli and Soju tastings from air bnb.
I can recommend a couple I tried if you like.
There's also walking tours which is a fun way to meet people and get familiar with the city sights.
i'll take those recommendations, i got a trip next month!
I agree -- I had two AirBNB experiences with each. The host Sam was great as well as the samples of soju and maekgoli. I travelled alone, so it was a good way to meet some other travelers.
Seeing the sights were great, but some of my favorite moments in my month-long trip were the things you would stumble upon around the hotspots. Like I wandered around the Haeundae for an evening and was more than happy with my dinner of raw sliced fish from a stall selling packages of it rather than a sit-down restaurant. I was grateful, but I know folks with tighter itineraries may not have that luxury.
Hiking bukhansan
Check out the cute cafes in Ikseondong
I’d like to recommend biking along the Han river
I'm having trouble getting links but if you search Makgeolli tasting in Seoul, you'll find them.
The hosts names are:
Sam (he does Soju tastings and other experiences too). Well organised, professional, yet very relaxed experience. He knows a lot about food and drink and Korea in general - the tasting was awesome and Sam gave out a lot of great recommendations for other things in Seoul too.
JaeKyung - an experienced somellier and Makgeolli lover! I had an incredible time with him, one of the kindest, most passionate, and most knowledgeable people I met. I was the only one who booked the tasting so we basically just chatted all things alcohol for 90 minutes. Genuinely such a fun and heartwarming experience.
Definitely felt like it was very worth it!! Suyang cooks everything and it was the best food I had in Korea and soooo much food
https://www.guruwalk.com/seoul
I think I did one from here!
It was just a really fun way to get to know the city a bit and to engage with history, and other people.
The host was a Spanish woman who has been living in Seoul for years. She was lovely!
It's quite informal so it's a great way to meet people and have a chill day.
Yees, there are many places around Han river, i remember i rented mine near the “I SEOUL U” sign, it was easy, you just need to show any ID and pay for the time you’ll use it :)
My favorite part of my whole Korea trip was the air bnb experience going to Jagalchi fish market with Suyang!! Called "Enjoy Korean Seafood with Busan Oppa". I also really loved staying in a hanock house in Jongno-gu and being able to walk to all the Palaces nearby
Hey everyone!
My sister and I are going to be in Busan for 4 days and we’d love some recommendations! Any must-see spots, fun things to do, or restaurants you’d highly recommend? We’re open to all kinds of suggestions—hidden gems, popular places, anything you think we shouldn’t miss.
Thanks in advance!
Book a ride on the Sky Capsule! (Be sure to book a return on the train! Otherwise you will be stuck in the outskirt area). We enjoyed it and had dinner around the area afterwards.
If I had to choose just one spot, I’d recommend visiting Jayu Market. Even if you don’t plan to buy anything, it’s full of fascinating items to browse. The area is also packed with jewelry shops, so there’s plenty to see! Since it’s located downtown, it’s easy to explore other nearby spots as well.
this for more info!
Thank you!
