University of Minnesota Dance Team
The University of Minnesota Dance Team is widely regarded as one of the top college dance teams in the country, consistently ranking in the top three for about two decades [2:1]. In the 2025 national college dance team championship held in Orlando, they excelled by winning first place in the Pom category and securing second place in Jazz
[2]. Their performances are celebrated for their energy and representation, making them a standout team in collegiate dance competitions.
Navarro College and TVCC
Navarro College continues to be a powerhouse in college dance and cheerleading competitions. At the College Nationals 2025, Navarro secured a high score with minimal deductions, showcasing their consistent excellence [1:1]. While TVCC had a strong start, they faced challenges that impacted their final performance
[1:8]. Both teams are known for their competitive spirit and impressive routines.
Weber State
Weber State has been highlighted for their exceptional talent and innovative routines, particularly their pyramid formations which have left audiences in awe [1:4]
[1:5]. Their ability to perform complex skills across the entire team sets them apart and makes them a formidable competitor in college dance championships.

Competitive Dance Teams and Clubs
Many colleges offer various dance teams and clubs catering to different levels of experience and competitiveness. For example, Envy is a competitive team requiring auditions, while Momentum offers a more inclusive environment with fewer performances [5:1]. These options allow students to engage in dance at their preferred level of commitment and skill.
Overall, these discussions highlight the prominence and achievements of several top college dance teams, emphasizing their dedication and impact on the collegiate dance scene.
10 minutes to go until the first division begins on the bandshell! Most of the bigger teams don’t go until later so will keep updated.
TVCC small coed just hit an incredible routine. From what I could see no other team in their division hit and of course it’s only day 1, but I can’t see any outcome other than them winning especially as they will be pissed after losing last year.
Well … Weber State are THATTTT team. Most insane pyramid I have ever seen. They had a bobble but it honestly doesn’t even matter my jaw is on the floor.
That pyramid was magic. I cannot believe the talent on that team!
It’s crazy because most teams have maybe 5 or 6 athletes who can do all of these crazy skills but Weber have an entire team full of them 😂
TVCC Small Coed Routine
TVCC is hungry🙂 ↕️
Thank you!!
Navarro hit!
TVCC lowkey fell apart. An athlete fall, stunt fall, pyramid fall & bobble. Not great.
i noticed it looks like the same girl was in involved in 4/6~ of the mistakes. i wonder if she was a replacement/rearrangement for the injured athlete. there were parts of the routine where she wasn’t doing the choreo. i feel so bad for them.
She was. Their center flyer got injured and she had to fill in. A lot of pressure for sure.
Welcome back 2022 day 1
Scores and placements are out for some divisisons. Texas Tech small coed are in first with no deductions so to the person who was asking earlier the early dismount wasn’t counted as one, just took off from their overall score.
Navarro sitting comfortably in first with a score of 95.25 with TVCC in second with 91.27. Navarro had 0.25 in deductions and TVCC had 2.5.
The 2025 national college dance team championship was held in Orlando on January 18-19. Here are the U of MN’s winning performances!
In the Jazz category, they took 🥈 for this stunningly beautiful dance: https://youtu.be/zC3tI_xmJCo?si=Lr8Eev4Oaf8turBK
In the Pom category they won 🥇 for this energetic and iconic routine: https://youtu.be/n4ZO_cfNcM8?si=AG9uUfiWx2tiZNs-
What an amazing sport and team! 🩰💃🏻🌹🎶
I saw this all over Instagram. The Pom routine is so cool and really represented us well. I had no idea that they were so well known!
They’re regarded as one of the top college dance teams in the country - easily in the top three and have been for about 20 years!
Mankato also won in Pom and Jazz in the Open Division
I was on the high school danceline back in ‘88 when it was first recognized as a sport. This makes me cry happy tears. These women are amazing.
Heyyyy, me too! But in the 90’s :) We had high kick and pom competitions. My high school has since added jazz.
Anyone on here know how to track down videos of dance team from mn state 1999?
Does anyone know - is it the same group of dancers performing both routines?
Yes, the performances were a few hours apart
Ok, well that makes it even more impressive.
Anyone know anything about the athletics dance team and how competitive the try outs are?Im going to be a first year in the fall I’m fairly flexible,I can do the splits ,really good at hip hop,I can do cartwheels ,front walk overs but I’m kinda rusty at other stuff so should I try out or is it super competitive?lol this is kinda a cringe post
One of my friends is a member, I don’t think it’s competitive… I would say give it a go, worst is they say no:) I’m actually auditioning too!
Thanks for replying! I’ll give it a shot then see you there!
I’m going to be a freshman at UCSD this fall, and I’m wondering what sports I should go and watch. I know we have basketball, but what are some of the underrated ones that don’t get talked about?
basketball games only get crazier over time, pull up for our game against sdsu at home this fall
Tennis
i like to say ucsd has a big soccer audience and players. I personally play and watch and have met and lots of players here at ucsd. Watching is fun too people go to dirty birds to watch big games.
i was there during barca vs inter in the UCL semifinal, it was super fun
Hello! Just a couple of questions about your dance team if you have one?
There’s also a ballroom dancing club that is open to all levels. I’ve met the leaders, they’re pretty nice and have heard good things about the group overall
There:s like 3 iirc
We actually have several on campus. Envy which is more competitive and does more performances, and Momentum which is more of an all levels club that has 1 performance per semester. I would say both are good, Envy is much more difficult to get into if you are less experienced
That’s alota Dakota!
Had North Dakota not collapsed and reeled off 5 straight losses, there could be one more. They peaked at No. 7 before their collapse.
NDSU might be pretty good
A million to 2 in the MonDak bowl, really
The DCI.org scoring based on “Avg Last 3” is combining 2024 and 2025 scores 😂 Bloo hasn’t had a scored show yet so they’re still in first, and neither has PC so they’re in 4th 👏🏻👏🏻
Bloo may break 100 before Broken Arrow😂😂
4 corps have broke 80+ over the past few days. Longer training camp+shorter season=a more refined product on the field. I think we are seeing the new normal.
their score tonight was actually .1 worse than it was at this show exactly a year ago
What are you on about? Bloo’s score is already over 9000!
it feels like they weren't quite ready to start the season. they're like, nah, we won't create new stuff for 25. we'll just tack it onto the old 24 data.
PC sweep?
lmao coats comin out stronk
Turns out right now the season was declared over, Blue Devils have been disqualified for being too Blue, Pacific Crest medals and Crown is in fact so back
How did c’est chic and pop muzik both get first jazz (in the second table) ? Was it a tie since they’re both junior?
Yeah they tied for 1st in the genre awards
What does "Scratched" mean?
it was originally on the schedule but they pulled it out of the competition because several dancers had injuries or weren’t available so they decided not to do it because reblocking a dance with a prop and multiple dancers missing is too difficult
Thank you for answering my question 😊
Sorry, I don't know much about casting and awards, I just like watching the dances. How could Pink Shoelaces have placed 3rd overall but not placed anywhere in jazz? I thought if you can't place anywhere in dance genre, you can't place overall.
if i’m not mistaken the overall is just for mini groups, but the “mini jazz/genre” award takes into account the groups, lines, extended lines and productions - so all mini jazz groups of all sizes. so there are more dances in the genre awards because it includes all sizes
Thank you for responding!
Smalltown boy 👏
are there any teams for beginners? i don’t know how to dance at all but i really want to try :( i don’t want to show up to workshops because everyone else is so good and i get intimidated :/
From what I remember MCIA and LVO are really beginner friendly and I don't think there's even try outs/auditions? Also BBA accepts all types of dancing besides break dancing and they're really helpful to people willing to learn, although it's less about choreo and more about learning moves and stuff.
Side note. Workshops may be intimidating, but there's always going to be more than a few people that are completely new to dance too that are also trying out. People there are always really friendly and you can stay in the back if you really feel uncomfortable. They're focusing more on the people running the workshop than you, so try to keep that in mind :)
MCIA has auditions, LVO does not.
To add on to that for OP's information, exhibition teams (meaning they perform just for fun) are generally more beginner friendly. MCIA, LVO, UrMo, and INSA are all considered exhibition teams that you could check out.
There are also project teams (these are basically exhibition teams but they're kind of "seasonal" as in they might not always be around) such as Square One Project, Renegade, I think DMSN is a new one I've seen around? I believe they have recruitments but I'm not entirely certain on their process.
Square 1 is a good beginner team! There is tuition tho, at around 20-25$ a month. LVO is a hit or miss for some people because of how big it is, so you might not really feel super included. I've heard good and bad things, you'd have to see for yourself.
Otherwise, URMO and INSA are also good beginner type teams. I feel like URMO is a little more selective than INSA. With these teams, since they're smaller, you'd have better chances of being in the front. You'd also have better chances of making choreo for the set!
MCIA, is imo, not beginner friendly. You definitely need some sort of dance experience to make it in.
Renegade is also not beginner friendly. You'd have to have a good amount of experience, and they're pretty heavy on networking with other dancers.
Square 1 practices only once a week, Renegade practices once or twice a week, all other teams practice 3 times a week, and once a season they have hell week where they practice everyday. So consider time commitment as a factor (-:
Of course! UCI has so many teams you can choose from. Since you're just starting out, I recommend an exhibition team. They don't compete so their practice schedules and team dynamics are less stressful than competitive teams. You can check out Urban Motus, INSA, LVO, MCIA on their social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) to get an idea of each team's styles. Here are videos of a dance event just this past Friday where some of these teams performed (as well as some competitive teams): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL35pdwTFm-uX2wx85WSaHZJczKv8qUaJ6&disable_polymer=true&fbclid=IwAR3DYkBc4SrJWe_v5HUCWAS2IQcPxP-jXll8jh4txKDNUgz9ji4u7095NRI. You can also check out BBoys Anonymous, they meet a couple times a week at the ARC to session/freestyle. (I haven't been to a BBA session though so that's about all I know.)
Since audition season is around the start of each academic year (Week 0-ish), you can take advantage of the time to start learning! I definitely feel you on being nervous about taking your first workshops but trust me--as you take more and more, you'll get more comfortable. To start out, you can try learning choreography at home from Youtube videos. Youtube has plenty of dance tutorials and you can even learn from non-tutorial videos by changing the playback speed. (I confess I started out with learning k-pop dances haha!) STEEZY Studio also has online lessons and I think they offer a free trial. Once you think you're ready to take a workshop, bring a friend! And if your friends aren't interested in dance, I can go with you!
I don't want to overwhelm you with too much info so I'll leave it at that, but if you have any questions or anything feel free to shoot me a message!
Edit: Forgot to mention STEEZY
thank you so much!! this was extremely helpful and encouraging :) i appreciate it a lot!
No problem! Good luck!
I definitely recommend LVO. It's a beginner team and they don't require any experience or audition to join. I joined with no dance experience and eventually if you're interested in competitive teams in the future, it's a good place to start.
Additionally, it's a good place to meet new people too, really wholesome team. We value family aspect so you know you won't be left out :)
thank you! i’m definitely interested in LVO.
