These brands offer a range of options catering to different needs, from high-performance gear to stylish athleisure wear.
What’s everyone’s favorite brands that can be worn in the gym and outside. I’m looking for some recommendations on brands that look good casually and are pretty good for the gym.
I wear Vuori and Tasc. Tasc is underappreciated in my opinion - some really good stuff, and very sustainable if that matters to you.
Edit: also Rhone, but they're even more expensive. Sale only.
What do you like from tasc? Looking at the website now.
Everything in the Carrollton collection
This year I've also gotten two pairs of Janji running pants and those have been nice. I took one of the travel pair on the flight back from Korea to Atlanta and it was comfy.
Under Armour. Probably not shocking anyone.
Arcteryx.
Flag Nor Fail, Better Bodies
I like Vuori for their pants and I have two long sleeves, one has a good which I use for travel.
What are your thoughts of branded activewear that specialise in gym clothing like LSKD, Gymshark, Lululemon, Ryderwear, Rockwear etc.?
Are they worth it or are they just Instagram influencer hype? Are they really that much better than Kmart, Big W and Target? Or the traditional sports brands like Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, 2XU, etc.?
I love lulu lemon shorts. Specifically, pace breakers with liner. I have a few pairs in the 7" and 5". I've done everything from multi day hikes to marathons to gym sessions and CF to beach vacations in them and they just last and feel great. They're remarkably bomb proof and you can often buy them on sale online in the "we made too much" section.
I second this. Love the pace breakers as well as their zeroed in model.
I like the License to Train lined shorts. I wear Lace breakers as casual shorts though and like them a lot
I bought 3 pairs of Legends, with liner, shorts back in 2019 when I started CF. I go about 4 times a week over the past 5 years and not one stitch has frayed out come out of any of the three shorts.
Color hasn’t faded on any of them either. I’ve been incredibly impressed. That’s about 200 classes per pair (they’re the only shorts I wear when I CF) and nothing wrong with any of them.
Highly recommend.
I bought a pair of Lululemon shorts a couple years ago and now that’s all I’ll buy.
Pros: Durable, fit in all the right ways, and they come in great styles.
Con: Pricey
Good shorts are worth it. I have Lululemons that have survived 10+ years of CrossFit and still look new. Meanwhile, Vuori's don't stretch well (well, mine didn't) and although I really liked TenThousand, they fell apart on me real quick. I recently got a pair of Stance shorts that I really like and seem to be wearing well. I've had bad luck with the big traditonal brands like Under Armor and Nike. The quality on them just isn't there.
Shirts... probably not worth paying a premium for. I wore Lulu's for the longest time, but they always start to break down, and they aren't made as well as they used to be. (They also NEVER change their styling and I'm sick of it.) Recently I've switched to True Classic Tees' Active line, and they wear just fine for 1/3 of the price. I'm not all that smelly of a guy, so the silver anti-stink tech doesn't do much for me unless I insist on wearing the same shirt for a week's worth of workouts... Which, in that case, I have other problems. Most people just get away with normal cotton T's. I sweat too much for that, so I at least need something sweat wicking.
I buy cheapest stuff from Walmart ,Marshall’s ,target. I only buy on clearance . I spend like $10 or below for shorts and shirts (no name ) will go up to like $15 for Nike ,Reebok ,etc from Ross, sierra ,Marshall ,Burlington.
Just got a pair of Ten Thousand interval shorts a while ago and I was blown away by how good they fit me. I got the 7” with the liner and they are incredibly comfortable. I ordered one more interval pair and a tactical 5” with the liner a few days ago. I’m curious to see how the tactical fit because I’ve read they might run small by a tiny bit.
As for T-Shirts , I usually get some plain Uniqlo DRY-EXs.
Ten Thousnd Tactical shorts with built in line are the way. I have about 5 pairs - best gym shorts ever.
I've recently gone back to the gym and I am in desperate need of some fits. Some people have told me to try Castore as they are meant to be great quality for high intense fitness. Would love to know what brands everyone is wearing to the gym.
Walmart/amazon.
I only spend money for decent lifting/running shoes.
If cool/fancy/expensive gym clothes make you go more often or consistently have at it.
As a dude... I like the And1 shorts from Wal-Mart cause they have good length and quality and cost like $12. Then just whatever random T-Shirt. Converse High Street(all black) and ankle socks.
Walmart exercise leggings with a large tshirt. And my Hoka’s ofc. But I am no fashionista, just trying to be comfortable and cover my butt and belly.
shorts and a t-shirt
Love gymreapers !!! Especially 5inch performance shorts and tanks ! Also love their lifting gear like belts and pulls
Hi everyone!
Its time that I get some new workout attire. I have Gymshark leggings and Victorias Secret Sport with a few Lulu pieces. I'm looking to buy more cute sets.
What are some of your favorite brands?
Lululemon 1000%. I don’t wear anything else. Their price point is high but I’ve tried all other brands and they just don’t compare.
Pretty happy with Old Navy items. The Powersoft leggings are great for being not in the “luxury” price range and often on sale online.
Second Old Navy! The quality & price are the right point. I also like Lululemon & Athleta, but I find it a little overpriced.
Sales all the time, you just have to time it right. The powersoft are perfect and I love their biker shorts as well as leggings. I do outdoor runs in all Old Navy as well.
Same parent company as Athelta too btw.
Seconding the PowerSoft line!! I adore them.
I agree, I like the way my lulu leggings look, and did fabletics for a bit, but actually love how comfortable the Old Navy powersoft leggings are and they never ride up or down during class. They’re legitimately the only leggings I’d run a race in and I get compliments on their bras and tops all the time (not to mention they stay put as well). Plus you can’t beat their price.
Girlfriend collective makes awesome leggings and sports bras. Also, it’s all from recycled material.
Love this brand! Fit well, good for working out, and good for the environment!
Their maternity workout leggings are amazing and getting me through my third trimester at OTF. Highly recommend!
My brother works for a fashion site that they sell on. He got me a couple pieces for Christmas!!
Athleta
Athleta. So much better than anything else I've ever tried.
I’m looking to purchase some activewear and would like to filter out the fast fashion brands. What are some of your favorite quality activewear brands?? Thanks!
Oiselle is a good one
Girlfriend collective
Seconding Girlfriend Collective! Great brand.
I really like Zella and have found a bunch on TU that I bought for under $10.
I should add, I’ve also gotten athleta, sweaty Betty, and adidas on TU. They all tend to be a tiny bit pricier.
Athleta, Sweaty Betty, Onzie (RIP), Lorna Jane, Marika.
I see so many influencers pushing different brands these days.. curious to hear what y’all think is worth the money. I know it depends on area of the country and what kind of workouts/gyms. I feel like I see Alphalete everywhere on social, but at the gym it’s still lulu and now vuori. What brands have you guys had good experiences with?
I really like athleta. For the prices and quality it’s a win for me especially when they do sales. Not a fan of popflex, I’m constantly pulling up the leggings. They just don’t hug as well as athleta and lululemon. Vuoris tops and joggers are really nice too.
+1 for athleta. Their fabrics whick away sweat so well. -1 for LLL purely because their stuff pills even though I wash all of my clothes on cold delicate and dry on ultra low, never had any pilling with athleta.
I’ve always had luck with Lululemon 🤷🏼♀️ most of my pieces last 4+ years, so I feel like it’s pretty cost-effective in the long run.
Lululemon and Nike are the only fitness brands that haven’t let me down
+they have a good hemming and repair policy
Lululemon and crzyoga on Amazon
+Athleta and you just nailed my whole wardrobe. I’ve tried gymshark multiple times and never found a win there.
The athletic selection at TJMaxx
I love that their leggings are actually petite, unlike Lululemon which is just length based. But hard agree on the tops.
I find all gap brands (gap, athleta, banana republic) are not true to size. They all use vanity sizing.
Agreed, the fits are so bad (for my body shape). My athleta stuff is always hugely vanity sized, the pieces bag out, lose their shape and material thins out easily. I also wash all of my clothes on cold delicate, air dry. I'm 6'2" and am so limited with tall sizes. I want to love athleta because they offer tall fits, but the stuff still isn't tall enough for me and is so ill-fitting in general that it's pointless to shop there. We need more inclusive sizing for athletic wear!
Looking to get some new workout apparel and just looked at Aoxjox per this recommendation. I saw that it says hand wash only for some of their stuff. Do you abide by that?
Hi,
I’ve been consistently working out for a while now and i kind of want to invest in some cute gym clothes. Does anyone have any recommendation on gym apparel brands ?
Thank you.
Lululemon and Vuori
This is the answer
alo and lulu for leggings. i have these high waisted shorts in black and grey from amazon that i love. i have enormous boobs so i just wear my husbands band shirts- not trying to get that kind of attention at the gym lol
Good ole old navy lol
Old Navy active is surprisingly good quality! I have leggings that I've owned since just after college (like 12 years ago) that I STILL wear on the regular. Their bra tops are also great quality!
For most bottoms and bras, I go with Athleta. Their tops haven't been great quality though, the tanks and sweatshirts I've owned wrinkle like crazy without even doing anything to them.
Prana is my go-to for climbing pants and sweatshirts.
Beyond Yoga tops but only on sale 😅
^^ Yes - I am such a broken record about this, but Old Navy is so good for the price point and it'll last you ages. It's out-performed all the expensive workout clothing I've ever owned.
Yep. I wear old navy active workout shirts for boys. 6-7$ a shirt! Sure, it's not flattering, but I don't care. I'm comfortable in it. I suppose that doesn't qualify as "cute" though... I prefer the boys workout clothes because I find the women's styles either 1) Too cropped or 2) too low in the front or 3) too large (tunic style?). They used to make regular workout tops and tank tops but not sure what happened to fashion in the last 8 years...
Honestly I love old Navy’s workout leggings/shorts and built in sports bra tops. They come in cute colors and fit very flatteringly! And they’re a quarter of the price of some of the higher end brands
I like Athleta for petite sizing, and they have pretty good sales.Recently I bought a couple of items with stacked codes I found on r/Athleta_gap/
I like Lululemon Wunder Trainer leggings for lifting. I like Vuori as well, however, the stitching is coming loose after 3 years of wear.
For all of my leggings from these brands, I have to "baby" them a lot more--wash inside out and hang dry--if I want them to last for a long time.
I love my vuori shorts and halo crop trop (built in bra!) I live in them when it’s summer, when I’m hiking, or when I’m working out. I live in a tiny home without easy access to laundry, so for gym days I rock everything two days in a row with time to air out in between. Mine are two years old and going strong :)
Hey guys!!! Looking to try some new apparel brands and break away from the major ones. What are some of your favorites that are new to the functional fitness space!?!?
Thanks!
7Five and Barbell Voodoo are two local (to me) companies that put out great products. I’ve been happy with my purchases from both!
In have a bunch of barbell voodoo. Good stuff. Good people.
Second 7Five company. They came to a local competition and I bought several shirts from them. Love them!
Check out thewodlife.com
I like Born Primitive. I like the fabrics they use (soft!) and I own a few sports bras
Ten Thousand shorts
Aren't these the ones with ads all over Instagram?
HSTL made
Old cotton crap. I cannot take people, who spend serious money on branded work out gear, seriously. I consider them pathetic consumers, gym tourists.
Horrid shirt wtf
I wear a super Mario tshirt and stained sweat pants to he gym, sometimes I put a hair mask on prior to going so I can wash it out in the shower after, so I look extra greasy, rest assured I don't get unwanted attention from men ever 🤣
Genius
I mean I don't get attention from men anyway but I definitely don't at the gym 🙃
Under armour compressions are goated
yepp agreed
As long as it’s not gymshark. 🤣🫣
In your opinion, which is your favorite brand? Which ones are most affordable? I only know a few brands the most famous ones (tyr, pvrn, no bull, etc) so I wanted to see what else is out there.
Vuori shorts for men!
The kore and banks love. I also just live vuori in general though
Born Primitive is pretty top notch quality. I’m not a big fan of their over the top American branding and huge logos on a lot of their stuff, but they do have some nice stuff with subtle logos.
I've gotta second (or third) Born Primitive. It's well-made, comfortable, a small business, and I love that they regularly have sales.
When do they have sales besides Black Friday? Their inventory FLEW when I tried shopping online.
and they have sales quite often so it can be pretty affordable.
I loveee their rest day joggers but that's about it for me. The bras sometimes slip up and their shorts give me serious 🐪
Ten thousand for men’s gear
CVG for squat-proof leggings and tanks that are amazingly lightweight yet still provide tummy coverage.
As a larger woman, I came here to say CVG!
The only company I’ve tried that are popular with other crossfitters that are squat proof on my body and actually have fun colors/patterns. So happy to have more options than black.
I use Lululemon for leggings/shorts and bras. All of my tanks are CrossFit affiliates/branded but tend to be tri-blends.
My socks are Feetures and my shoes are Reebok (currently Nano x2)
(I feel like I just did one of those OOTD posts on Instagram)
Haha, I’m in canada and lulu is just uniquitous, however, their shorts, leggings and for the most part bras can’t really be beaten.
I really like RX Barbell to mix it up, womens crossfit focussed gymwear based near Toronto. Cheaper and the sports bra designs are a little unusual but The colours aren’t as interesting as lulu. I love the fit of their leggings and they’re a lot cheaper than lulu but don’t wear quite as well (I’ve had my pair a few years and they’ve had a lot of wear and now have minor pilling so still great, but not quite as long lasting as Wunder under)
