TL;DR Some of the most iconic PC games from the 2000s include "Half-Life 2," "Warcraft III," "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City," "Mass Effect," and "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic."

RPG Classics
The 2000s were a golden era for RPGs, with titles like "Mass Effect" and "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" receiving high praise for their storytelling and character development [2:5]

[5:1].
Hidden Gems
While many games are well-known, there are some lesser-known gems worth exploring. "Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines" offers a unique blend of RPG and action elements [5:7]. "Black & White" is another interesting title that combines strategy and god-game mechanics

Why is nobody mentioning Resident Evil 4??
f.e.a.r platinum
حاولت اقرب الالعاب الى 2000 واللي كنت مدمن عليهم

Half-Life 2 and Warcraft III still hold up today!
Last I heard, Warcraft 3 was a hot mess. Did they fix things?
Deus Ex
Mass Effect
Max Payne
Warcraft and StarCraft.
KotOR
Diablo 2
Vice City and Final Fantasy X.
Black and White
That’s a tough decade thkugh. They were still pumping out N64 games at the beginning of the 2000’s and were balls deep into PS3 at the end of the decade, such a huge difference in tech
I,m building a mid to late 2000s PC and want to run Windows XP on it for some older games and want ask if you maybe know some good games that are not in the googles top list when you search for like "top 2000s games"
Specs are: CPU: core 2 quad q8400 MB: Foxcon g41m RAM: 4x1GB DDR2 1066Mhz kingston GPU: Geforce 9800GT PSU: some generic 350 watt PSU Edit: and a 21" CRT monitor (fujitsu 21p4)
Maybe baldur's gate? I mean it is pretty well known but I don't meet very many people who have actually played it.
I heared alot about it, I mighr check it out.
Neverwinter Nights if you want more.
kind of cheating - but if you manage to run dolphin emulator on that CPU (drag vcpu to the 80%s maybe?) Metal Arms Glitch in the System might be the greatest hidden-gem of all time. It has a slow tutorial, but instantly becomes a 10/10 "how do i approach this situation?" game
Emulation is also one of the things I want to do on it, as I right now edited my post, I got a 21" CRT monitor :D
Another idea for emulation is gameboy or DS games, they're still really fun
Doom (the original), Oregon trail, Descent. Lots of fun options
Call Of Duty 4
Possibly if they are similar to assassin's creed, Prince of persia, witcher 3, skyrim, oblivion, Fable, old god of war etc
The first two Mass Effect games fall into that window, though the third is from 2012. Brilliant RPGs, you can get the remastered trilogy pretty cheap in sales nowadays.
These games also aged pretty decently compared to a lot of other games from that time period.
I'll include Bioware games at the time, like Star Wars KOTOR and Dragon Age series
Literally always when I check the profile of someone who recommends Gothic, they're from a German speaking country or a former Communist state.
Piranha Bytes games are way too janky for most people, even back then. For some reason people from those countries love that shit, but for the rest of the world, it's barely playable. I only played Risen 2 from then, but only played for an hour before I gave up. Those games were outdated the day they released, compared to bigger games from that time. They're really not fit for modern standards if you don't wear nostalgia glasses.
and Gothic 2
But dont look for Gothic 3
3rd sucks on release, but now it's pretty playable.
I played through Gothic 1 and now I am playing Gothic 2. Thought about going for 3 after... What's so wrong about Gothic 3?
Do you recommend the whole series? I've got them all since a year or so but never made the time as of yet to thoroughly play 'em.
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines
And again my sixth sense for knowing someone is German or Eastern European for liking Gothic proves it's effectiveness.
You really have to sit through the eurojank to appreciate a game like that nowadays.
Fallout: New Vegas.
Funny thing is, Im playing that right now
I have an older computer I recently rediscovered (windows7) and I wanted to get some old games on it for the more "nostalgic" feeling. What are your recommendations?
2000's ish
Mechwarrior 2 (1995)
Hexen (1995)
Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness (1995)
Quake (1996)
Duke Nukem 3D (1996)
Heroes of Might and Magic 2 (1996)
Blood (1997)
Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (2001)
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon (2001)
Age of Mythology (2002)
Rise of Nations: Throne & Patriots (2004)
Doom 3 (2004)
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade (2006)
Blood and Hexen are SICK.
Flare guns and monks are the perfect combination.
Halo, Portal, Old school Runescape, bioshock, Age of Empires 2 de, Command and Conquer,
I second OSRS, I'm thinking of getting back into it
Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic
Portal
Half-Life 2
Fallout 2
Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines is one of the greatest games from the 2000s era of gaming, along with Deus Ex. Period
There’s also a fan made patch that adds a whole bunch of content to the game.
I’m a huge fan of earlier games specifically in the earlier 2000’s such as
Splinter cell Red faction Deus ex Kotor Max Payne
Just wondering what some good ones are that are worth playing!!
Morrowind
Or Oblivion. Sure it's 2006 but they're both great
Oblivion IMO absolutely does not hold up. I adored the game back in High School but it's so incredibly janky and designed so terribly that it's really hard to play. The fact that leveling up is a negative is rough. You basically have to design your playthrough to avoid leveling major skills which is poor design IMO.
Both this and Oblivion are must-plays, and there's a good number of mods out there that will make the experience feel a bit more modern.
I’ve tried many times to get into Morrowind. Just can’t do it. Oblivion spoiled me
It took me six attempts to get into Morrowind before Oblivion was out. It's that kind of game.
Completely unlike Gothic 2, which I was also playing at the time and instantly sucked me in. It's kind of weird that the (only comparatively) small underdog was so much more accessible, despite in many ways resembling a proto Dark Souls.
Fable 1 is still one of my favorite games. I got it in 2004 for Christmas. I'm 32 now and still play it at least once or twice a year.
Dude that game was incredible. I’d never experienced anything like that when it came out. On the surface I’m mainly talking about choices changing your appearance, but god it was cool.
You're the only one to mention Fable. I loved that game and it's predecessors despite what people say about them.
Absolutely amped for the next one.
You're the only one to mention Fable. I loved that game and it's predecessors
The sequels to Fable weren't predecessors.
12 hours sounds about right. I must have played through at least 10 times. Nowadays I can’t even play through 50% of a bloat filled RPG.
Couldn’t even complete the Witcher 3 and everyone says how good it is.
Shocked I haven’t seen it yet but timesplitters, seems like it’s from the same era as red faction 1 and 2, at least in my mind. Lots of good memories
We can probably all pick up some top games from the decade 2000-2010, but what are some of the games that were not major releases back then that are still awesome?
Any lesser known games? Indie games? Dare I say, hidden gems?
So I'm not looking for Metal Gear Solid 2 and Vice City. No major releases from big studios, just the best of the rest.
What does everbody remember fondly from this era?
Here's some
Serious Sam
Aquaria
Cave Story
Fate
World of Goo
Space Funeral
Pathologic
Torchlight
Uplink
Darwinia
Solid list.
Darwinia was the first indie I remember playing (also went pack and bought Uplink shortly after).
Aquaria is still probably my favourite Metroidvania type game and World of Goo is a delight.
Think my only additions here are the early iterations of Spelunky and Minecraft.
I think I'll also cheat a little and add The Longest Journey (probably doesn't quite hit the indie vibe, but UK release date was 2000 so I'll count it!).
Had to check my old PS3 trophy list to see what I played at the time. Mostly towards the end of that decade:
Not a lot, but the massive surge of indie games started right after that.
Psychonauts
Castle crashers
I haven't played a lot of indie games from 2000-2010, just a few of the popular ones, but here are a few suggestions:
Cave Story (2004)
Braid (2008)
Limbo (2010)
Super Meat Boy (2010)
Age of mythology
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was a pretty cool game. They're even remastering it.
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Deus Ex really deserves all the love. It’s become a cult classic, but it’s truly a game many other should be taking pointers from.
