I roam in Canada about twice a year.  I have always gotten solid 5G coverage regardless of the roing oartner I connected to.  I am usually in and around Toronto though.  Canada does not have much 5G coverage outside of major cities.

Yes. When I was in Canada I got 5G on all major carriers (Rogers, Telus, Bell). There seems to be a data cap though.

This is just a guess, but it might depend on what bands the particular phone receives, meaning some phones might work on the 5G bands used in Canada and some not. Or it may depend on what carrier they work through in various areas. So T-Mobile just says 4G not to over-promise.

But on the topic of bands, that's also important for functioning. I don't find a lot of performance difference between 4G and 5G, but what I do find is a lot of range difference with the 5G band T-Mobile uses in U.S. rural areas. If Canada doesn't use that band and you're in a rural area, it may not matter much if it's 4G or 5G.

Finally, I forget what town it was in Alaska, but I was surprised T-Mobile did not have towers there, but instead worked through some wireless company I never heard of. There may be a lot of that sort of thing in Canada given how rural a lot of it is.

It'll work in Canada but you only get 5GB of fast data. If you need more, get an AT&T SIM or see if there are any good roaming offers from your home country (based on your Amazon link your home country seems to be Italy; Vodafone's Travel Mondo is 25 euro for 10 GB, 200 minutes, and 10 texts, which is still cheaper than anything you'll find in Canada).

PSA to anyone who does international travel. What you need to to before you leave the country is use a TONN of data domestically. T-mobile only flags international data use if your international use goes above domestic. So if you use more domestically than internationally you should be fine.

If you use a local Sim for data, and keep the T-Mobile line on an esim, with data roaming disabled, you’ll be good.

Yes, he's going to need to get a local SIM with a Canadian carrier. If I were him, I'd ask friends up there who they use and if they're happy with their service.

My cousin on my plan has been in china for like half a year, after speaking with a US based team member and signing up for $50/mo extra global plus plan, hasn’t been a problem yet

God I miss the unlimited data roaming in Canada/Mexico tho… although 5GB is a decent allotment, it’s not that much. Enough for a few day trip for sure, but I wish it was more.

Depending on how much you pay for your prepaid plan, it may be a better option to move to postpaid and get unlimited text and data in Canada

If your phone is unlocked and has eSim you can several data roaming providers like Airalo and KeepGo. YOu can find more using Google.

For prepaid sims purchased in Canada, the prices are often high there.

Update, i took the advice from you all and contacted Tmobile Help through X, and they fixed it right away!! They took the charge off. Thank God. Now I know to speak with customer service through twitter. Smh. iMessage customer service is not good.

Call CS and explain again and ask them to give you a one-time credit since you were misinformed. I know this is going to sound stupid, but they are being very literal about the request and probably don’t have a way to retroactively remove the specific charge for the pass. But a general account goodwill credit for that amount will have the same effect for you.

So normally when we add these passes for free how it works is we add the pass which does have a cost then we set a follow up for the end of the bill cycle to credit the cost. We can't credit it the same day because it won't charge til the next bill cycle.

Honestly, if it's just for 2 months, just use a shitload of data (as in download like 100+GB of crap) right before you go to Canada and do it again right after you get back. Then, just use your phone as normal in Canada. T-mo isn't going to kick you off for just 2 months of roaming. Use Wi-Fi whenever it's available and turn on data saver in your settings if you're really worried about it.

You can always buy a travel eSIM later if you blast through your high speed data or if T-mo warns you about international usage. But if you do the big ass domestic download trick, they seriously are not going to hassle you.
