What Redditors are Saying

Best Celebrity Endorsed Skincare Products

Rhode by Hailey Bieber

Rhode is one of the few celebrity skincare lines that has received positive feedback from users. One commenter mentioned that they keep coming back to Rhode because each product is well thought out, suggesting a level of quality and effectiveness that resonates with consumers [1:1].

Kay Beauty by Katrina Kaif

Kay Beauty is frequently praised for its high-quality standards and popularity. Commenters have noted that it stands out among celebrity brands, attributing its success to Katrina Kaif's deep involvement in the brand [2:1][2:3]. The brand seems to have set a benchmark for other celebrity beauty lines.

Humanrace by Pharrell Williams

Humanrace, created by Pharrell Williams, is noted for being vegan and fragrance-free, with packaging that includes braille. This attention to inclusivity and formulation has caught the interest of some potential buyers [4:1].

The Outset by Scarlett Johansson

The Outset, Scarlett Johansson's line, offers fragrance-free products in sustainable packaging. While still new, the brand has garnered attention for these attributes, although some are cautious due to the lack of long-term reviews [4:4].

Skepticism and Criticism

Despite the popularity of some celebrity skincare lines, there is considerable skepticism about their effectiveness and authenticity. Many commenters express doubt about whether celebrities are genuinely involved in the formulation process or if the products are merely cash grabs [5:1][5:4]. There is also criticism regarding the price point of these products, which often include a markup for the celebrity name rather than superior quality [5:2].

Conclusion

While some celebrity skincare brands like Rhode and Kay Beauty have earned positive reputations, many consumers remain skeptical of celebrity-endorsed products. The general consensus is that while these products may be worth trying, it's essential to consider your specific skin needs and not be swayed solely by the celebrity endorsement.

For me, Rhode is the only real celebrity beauty line that I keep coming back to.

I tried Rare Beauty, I didn't like the blushes, and found their other products pretty meh. I've had a good few from them - contour sticks, highlighters, lip products. None of them really did what they said they would do. I found the blushes hard to blend, the highlighter was way too liquid and the lip products just didn't hit for me, at all.

I've dipped in and out of other celebrity brands over the years too.

But for me, Rhode works because each product is well thought out. There's not been a million and one launches of new products - they're variations on the same products. The skincare is genuinely designed to be good skincare, and is the only skincare that works for me. The blushes are perfect (for me) as I like a lighter makeup look. Same with the lip tints and shapes. Even the phone case, which is a novelty, is actually pretty good for me too. I'm glad they're coming to Sephora, so I can stock up easier, and genuinely really like them as a brand because it's all curated well, and works well.

I need to read up about HR’s brand as I hear good things about it. It’s incredible how deeply and passionately Kat is involved with her brand. Would love to see a “making of” type of documentary. Same for Huda. I haven’t used Kay as it is not available where I live but I’ve never heard anyone say negative things about it.

Glad HR and Kat are not merely lending their name to the brand.

On Celebrity Skincare Brands

Posted by Theonlytruesavage · in r/Esthetics · 1 year ago

So it appears we've seen a new shift, first it was Celebrity clothing, fragrance, lifestyle etc. Now we see Celebrity skin. Which yes I guess is a natural progression.

As a Master who also happened to do a little time in Sephora. I watched a lot of these brands get released, rise, expand, or fall and collect dust on the shelf (hard side-eye at JLo Beauty.)

I gotta know. Have your clients in consult brought up any Celebrity Skincare brands, Rhode, The Outset, Humanrace. Etc. What has been said about it that drew them to use it? Do they seem to just follow trends?

Do you often steer them toward other things? Have you used any of it yourself?

A lot of it doesn't seem crazy innovative and often just a tweaked premix. But it gets SO MUCH PLAY.

This appears to be here to stay for a while. I just want to see what others are noticing.

I kinda assumed it was only teens who bought that stuff tbh.

I see it alot on short form content. I mainly watch it to see what information is being spread. Cause that's often where the sideways stuff brews.

I've also just met people in the wild who ask me about it upon learning my credentials.

It could definitely be different bubbles

Yeah, TikTok is the only place I’ve seen it mentioned and I just scroll past it. I can’t be bothered with the “guys, I am so obsessed!!!” stuff lol. But I agree, definitely depends on the demographic you’re around.

Oddly enough, I have yet to have a client come in using any celebrity skincare! I’m not sure if it’s due to my location or just the demographic I work with but I’m way more likely to have someone come in using the ordinary or cerave vs an actual celebrity line. I don’t have clients really ask me about it either which is interesting. Curious to see others’ experiences.

Most of my clients talk about Drunk Elephant, Summer Fridays, Sunday Riley, Paula’s Choice. Occasionally someone will talk about a luxury brand like Tatcha. Besides the CeraVe and Cetaphil, which I feel like everyone has.

It seems like everyone is using that Paula’s Choice AHA/BHA grey bottle. Everyyyyyone

Absolutely not. I have spent so much time and money finding out the perfect skincare routine and I’m not about to mess up my skin. I have cystic acne and only use what my derm prescribes and cerave.

Skincare lines seem to just be a fad right now for celebs and I’m sure in 2 years, they’ll be discontinued. I’d hate to start one of these products, then in the off chance it actually works, have it be discontinued. Better to stick with the tried and true.

Seriously idk who buys these products. It’s like men who use a 5 in one and have perfect skin. Makes no sense

As someone with sensitive skin who tries to live a fragrance free life, I just assume these are toxic for me. Possibly unfairly. Is there some umbrella company that produces multiple skincare lines with slight tweaks for each unique celebrity? I know these lines aren’t reinventing the wheel every time.

I actually came across a few Outset products not realizing it was ScarJo’s line because I was specifically looking for fragrance-free products in sustainable packaging. The products are so new that all the reviews are from free product recipients, so I haven’t bought anything yet, but I’ll keep an eye on this product line to see how it pans out.

I’ve never used Humanrace but it’s vegan and fragrance free, plus the packaging has braille.

I was wondering something similar, I kind of just assume celebrity skin care isn’t the best since the celebrities selling it have good skin thanks to expensive procedures and photoshop, but try to make it seem it’s because of their skincare line.

i only have two thoughts: one, what is miss scarlett doin with a skincare line????? two, pharrell would name his shit “humanrace skincare,” he is simply that type

just had a third thought (of the day): jessica alba has done really well for herself with the honest brand, and if i had to choose between one of these options i guess that would be my choice, out of sheer curiosity

honest beauty makes a lot more sense than most of these i agree. she had the good sense to make things drugstore prices and not slap her name on them. she also started with baby care when affordable, “clean” baby care products was an untapped niche.

the other one that i have enjoyed is goop. the formulas, packaging, branding etc are solid for luxury skincare and the and they’re priced on par with other cosmeceutical brands.

64 upvotes on reddit
suspicioussmallwoman · 3 years ago

yes! not knowing it’s jessica alba selling you baby products really helped give the brand legitimacy. and you’re right re: it being an untapped market. i’ve never tried goop but i’m glad to hear it’s quality!

i think with something like skincare, curiosity buys will only get you so far. imo it’s all about loyal/repeat buyers! if i were kim i’d leave the general market alone and see if there’s something to be done in, like, a specialized psoriasis market or something. it’s smaller and it’s a risk but there could be real potential there!

Celebrity skincare brands - are they products you rate?

Posted by onigiri815 · in r/scacjdiscussion · 4 years ago

Personally, I think there has been a bit of a sharp rise in celebrity skincare brands, at least that are making the rounds and getting noticed.

Some I can think of are:

  • Fenty Skin - Rihanna
  • Kylie Skin - Kylie Jenner
  • JLo Beauty - Jennifer Lopez
  • Human Race - Pharrell
  • Keys Soulcare - Alicia Keys

Maybe I am missing a few but those are the ones that seemed to get a little more attention than others.

I'm wondering - what are your opinions, even if you haven't tried them?

If you have tried any brands (even not listed), what are your thoughts from personal use?

To be honest, with skincare I don’t really care for celebrity brands at all as I have specific needs that the celebrity brand products aren’t suited for (e.g. I need differin for my acne) but I have used Fenty Beauty makeup products and love them! Skincare is considered a bit more clinical for me so I don’t like buying for the name but I’ve liked almost everything Rihanna’s makeup company put out (with the exception of the highlighter sticks, they’re not it)

I will not be buying any celeb skincare brand in the near future - even if it‘s good. I just hate the idea that they only create these lines as a cash grab and have no idea about cosmetic chemistry/skincare so l‘d rather spend my money on a) someone who is passionate about skincare/the brand itself or b) a bomb formulation. Also skincare really just popped off about 1-2yrs ago so l know anybody who created a line in that time frame just did it for $ and be a part of the trend. If a celeb already did it yearsss ago l don‘t know if l would also say it‘s just to make money off of a trend

I avoid them completely. I’m very particular about skincare products and just can’t shake the thought that these lines might not be the most thoughtfully formulated. I also don’t buy into the thought that because say, Pharrell or J.Lo have great skin they know about basic skincare - they also have tons of money and access to expensive lasers, treatments, and facialists. It’s not just one miracle moisturizer that they’ve created that makes them look the way they look. I’m not nearly as skeptical of celebrity makeup lines, but I don’t gravitate towards those, either.

75 upvotes on reddit

J.Lo still claims that olive oil is the secret to her skin and that she’s had no work done lmao.

I found it refreshing when Jhené Aiko said that fraxel treatments and being on birth control are part of her skincare routine. I’d rather celebrities were honest about what they get done/use, instead of releasing cash grab skincare lines.

This completely describes my opinion as well! For some reason, it actually really angers me now so I completely avoid! After the Kylie Skin debacle of putting walnuts in her scrub that could tear the skin, I’m thoroughly disgusted. They don’t see the supporters who buy their products as people anymore. It’s all so careless that I’d rather waste money on literally anything else.

As if these celebrities don’t already have an opportunity to promote their cash grab brands to their followers and fans: endless coverage in media, their posts on social media, promo opportunities by their big agencies, big partnerships from start.

I understand that fans will happily buy these products- that’s absolutely fair to monetise their fan-bases. But these celebs brands don’t need extra marketing, for sure.

Gonna be real, I’m really turned off by celebrity owned/endorsed brands. Like, what makes you so special that you need a makeup/skincare line on top of all of the other shit you already do??? Did you go to beauty school? Are you a cosmetologist or esthetician? Are you a cosmetic chemist? No? Then fuck off. lol sorry. I’ll admit though, I do like the Haus Labs blush in “Dragon Fruit Daze”. It was an impulse buy and it looks great with my pale skin tone. But yeah, I usually steer clear from celebrity brands.

Fenty / Rare Beauty / Haus labs - I cannot say for the entire range of products, but I tried some and they were nice and would repurchase

  • Fenty: foundation, concealer, setting spray

  • Rare Beauty: highlight blush, highlighter (both powder), brow pencil

  • Haus Labs: lip oil

Tagging onto this as these are pretty much the only celeb brands I bother with.

Fenty - any of the glosses. For a gloss they last pretty long and depending on the shade they’re very pigmented. Also love the contour stick.

Rare - the blushes and highlighters but also a special shout out to the tinted moisturizer. Gets me through all my lazy work days, is super effortless to apply on the go and lasts the whole day.

Haus Labs - that foundation needs to be studied because I look like a goddess whenever I wear it, and I’m not exactly skilled lol. I always, always, always get compliments whenever I wear it.

They succeed when the celeb genuinely cares about the brand and is extremely involved not just at launch but after (and is passionate about their line!)

The ones that flop feel inauthentic and you can tell the celeb was just approached with the opportunity, collected their check and only shows up for whatever is contractually obligated.

I like the following celeb brands:

• Victoria Beckham makeup- really nice formulas, and luxurious packaging

• Pattern beauty haircare- best shampoo/conditioner and styling products I’ve ever used on my wavy/curly hair

• Lisa Eldridge makeup- wonderful formulas and nice packaging

• Haus Labs makeup- really nice foundation

• About-Face Makeup- really nice and affordable makeup for a celeb brand.

• Rare Beauty- I love the liquid blushes

• makeup by Mario … kinda celeb brand right? - I have a few things from the brand that i thoroughly enjoy

There is probably more that I like, but that’s all I can think of off the top of my head

Same! The packaging is seriously impressive. Some of the most impressive I own. Because they have the look, but they also have the weight. Most brands give you one or the other. It’s rare to have both.

And the actual makeup itself is so good too. I really love the actual products themselves, it’s just an added bonus that they really delivered on look/feel too. I guess it’s only fair given the prices, but I still appreciate everything.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned Fenty yet. I couldn’t care less about celebrities and I’m not a fan of Rihanna’s music at all, actually wish I’d never heard it. But I really enjoy her makeup brand. So many great products. Also they were one of the early brands to release such a wide shade range in their base products.

The loose powder, contour stick and bronzer powder are everyday staples for me. I also like the foundations, primers, highlighter powders, mascara, lip gloss and eye primer. The only thing I’ve tried that I didn’t like were they eyeliner pencils, they were too hard and dried out quickly.

I have a few Rare Beauty items that I enjoy as well.

I don't mind celebrity brands as long as they are putting thought into them and not just a cash grab.

How do you feel about celebrity makeup/skincare brands?

Posted by copperpumpkin · in r/Sephora · 3 years ago

I will admit I have a really hard time when it comes to celebrities making their own makeup. I have no problem when they collaborate with a established and trusted brand - but when a already loaded celeb creates their own line, i’m pretty turned off.

I just feel like with celebrity makeup, if you are a fan of the celebrity then you may be biased towards liking the products (regardless of how good they really are..) There are many companies that produce affordable makeup with good formulas, they just don’t have a celebrity name slapped around the packaging. A lot of companies are also poc owned or donate profits to valuable organizations, but celeb makeup definitley gets more attention.

That being said, I am guilty of still buying celeb products. I just got the Rare Beauty foundation today, and I have bought Fenty products before. I geniunely like Rare Beauty and their approach, but I wish Selena Gomez was more of a “silent” creater. Like oh I didn’t know she owns this, cool !!

My least favourite celeb makeup brand is Kylie Cosmetics, say what you want but that woman has made her millions off of her name, not quality.

What’s your thoughts on celeb makeup/skincare ?

Is there a celeb brand that you adore?

I’m fine with it! I’m of the mindset that a good product is a good product. So, while I don’t necessarily seek out celebrity brands; I will buy something if it’s good. I’m not a fan of Selena Gomez, but I like quite a few Rare Beauty products. I also really like Good Dye Young and Paramore, but it was seeing the results the dye produced that made me interested, not Hayley Williams.

Is the market getting over saturated? A little bit, but I don’t mind options and if I’m not interested, I don’t have to buy it. Jennifer Lopez’s skin care line for example doesn’t pique my interest and that’s fine!

If it’s coming with a comprehensive shade range and the celebrity isn’t famous for being famous I’m cool with it

Maybe I'm being a grumpy pants but I'm not a fan of them generally speaking. I think my frustration comes from the oversaturated market. I mean, do we REALLY need ANOTHER celebrity skincare/makeup line?

I mean some celebrity brands are actually more inclusive towards people with darker skin, so is that really a bad thing?

Seriously oversaturated. Feels like a cash grab and the quality is usually mediocre.

I always kind of roll my eyes at them, but some of them make legitimately good products. Rare Beauty and Fenty have some winners, and on the drugstore side, I really like Flower Beauty (Drew Barrymore), particularly their blush bombs (dupe for Glossier Cloud Paint) and the liquid highlighter (dupe for CT light wand). I agree that Kylie’s brand is not great.

The only Kylie product I did like was the lip kits but it seems like they have changed their formula now. The lip kits are a lot more drying then they used to be. It’s a shame. Kylie lip glosses are nice….. but it’s kinda hard to mess up a lip gloss and there are brands who have much better lip products. I bought my daughter some Kylie skin products and I felt horrible because they all broke her out. I now have my daughter using First Aid Beauty & Peach and Lily; in my opinion 2 of the absolute best skincare companies. I can go on and on about Peach and Lily all day long! They are nothing less than magical!

I don't mind celebrity makeup if it is great. The quality has to be there. So far I have really liked Rare Beauty products and that liquid blush is one of my favourite makeup products even more than any actual makeup brand that has been long existing before Rare Beauty.

I don't think Selena Gomez should be a "silent" creater. She should be loud and proud that she & her team created that empire that is Rare Beauty because she has done a fantastic job!

I wasn't even a huge fan of Selena Gomez to begin with then I saw all the reviews on that blush and got it myself and was so impressed then tried some of her other products out and they are still fantastic!

I think what I meant by this is that her music career and impact as a singer shouldn’t be what makes the brand great, people shouldn’t just buy it based on their opinion of her! Of course she should be credited but i’m sure so many people went into the creation of the brand and it’s great because of them too.

I agree that Rare Beauty has really become something and I hope that it lasts, I also wasn’t the biggest Selena Gomez fan at her peak.

What are the best celebrity endorsed skincare products

Key Considerations for Celebrity-Endorsed Skincare Products:

  1. Ingredient Quality: Look for products that contain high-quality, effective ingredients like hyaluronic acid, retinol, vitamin C, and peptides.

  2. Brand Reputation: Research the brand's reputation and the celebrity's involvement. Some celebrities have their own lines, while others simply endorse products.

  3. Skin Type Compatibility: Ensure the products are suitable for your skin type (oily, dry, sensitive, etc.) to avoid irritation or adverse reactions.

  4. Reviews and Results: Check customer reviews and before-and-after photos to gauge effectiveness and satisfaction.

  5. Price Point: Consider whether the price aligns with your budget, as celebrity-endorsed products can range from affordable to luxury.

Popular Celebrity-Endorsed Skincare Products:

  • Kylie Skin by Kylie Jenner: Known for its gentle formulations, the line includes a foaming face wash, toner, and moisturizer.

  • Fenty Skin by Rihanna: Offers a range of products designed for all skin types, focusing on inclusivity and effective ingredients.

  • Skincare by Alana by Alana Mitchell: Features a variety of products and is endorsed by several beauty influencers and celebrities.

  • Honest Beauty by Jessica Alba: Focuses on clean beauty with a range of skincare and makeup products that are eco-friendly.

  • Goop by Gwyneth Paltrow: Offers high-end skincare products with a focus on wellness and natural ingredients.

Recommendation: If you're looking for effective results, consider trying Fenty Skin. Rihanna's line is praised for its inclusivity and effectiveness, making it suitable for a wide range of skin types. Always patch-test new products to ensure they work well with your skin!
