TL;DR A pacifist run in Cuphead involves completing the Run 'n Gun levels without firing a single shot or killing any enemies, except through parrying.
Pacifist Run Strategy
To achieve a pacifist rank in Cuphead's Run 'n Gun levels, players must avoid shooting enemies and instead rely on strategies like using smoke bombs for invincibility [1:5], damage boosting
[1:4], and parrying pink objects, which do not count as kills
[5:1]. Utilizing abilities such as Super 2 can help navigate difficult sections without taking damage
[1:1].
Challenges and Difficulty
The pacifist run is notoriously difficult, with some levels being particularly challenging to complete without firing shots. Players often find themselves frustrated, especially in the final segments of certain levels [2:3],
[2:4]. The card level and other specific sections are noted for their difficulty
[2:5]. Persistence and repeated attempts are key to mastering these runs.
Character and Ability Restrictions
Certain abilities and cheats can prevent achieving a pacifist rank. For example, using Djimmi's double HP restricts the rank to B+ [3:1]. It's important to ensure that no cheats or additional abilities are active when attempting a pacifist run.
Parrying Mechanics
Parrying pink enemies does not count against the kill count, allowing players to interact with certain elements without losing the pacifist status [5:1]. This includes various pink objects and enemies throughout the levels. The key is to reach the end without firing shots, regardless of parries
[5:3].
Common Misconceptions
Some players initially believe that achieving a pacifist run might involve avoiding all interactions with enemies, but parrying is an exception. Additionally, there have been instances where players thought they achieved pacifist runs due to game bugs or misunderstandings about the mechanics [4:1].
I'm on Switch.
Remember that parry kills don’t count as kills.
They do if you kill enemies with whetstone.
Damage boost, that’s it
Use smoke bomb, that's it :)
Get 5 parties early on so you can use super 2 to not take damage and boost your way through hard areas. Either smoke dash or 2 + heart charm equipped.
safe to say i will be taking a long break after this, i almost broke every electronic in front of me
So sad. I think that level is the hardest to get pacifist.
for me, it was the fucking card level.
Think I died twice in that particular part of the level when going for it. Devastating.
Definitely on of the hardest levels to get a Pacifist rank on.
I remember messing up a few times on the final moments of this level. Super frustrating. But hey, you sorta get the strategy to beat the level. It's just a matter of attempts before you beat it -- so there is solace.
Yeah, that last segment is brutal. Took me several tries.
Man that would suck to happen
Damn, that was foul as shit
So ive been loving the delicious last course and playing as ms chalice, so i was trying for a pacifist run of the first run and gun level as chalice but when i beat it without killing anything, i still got no pacifist rank, just getting a B. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you fix it? (I had the double HP from djimmi if that matters)
Using cheats restricts it to B+, so Djimmi is the reason.
Oh, that makes sense! Thank u!
Context: Pretty sure it's just a bug. I killed all of them. But I find it funny that the achievements give off the impression that there's a way to win without killing enemies.
I was really impressed for 10 seconds and then realized that it is definitely impossible!
I know you can parry pink non-enemys but does parrying pink enemies count against the kill count?
Is it killing enemy’s or firing shots at all
Technically it is. Aka the pink Jack's in funhouse frazzled are enemies but you dont shoot.
Parrying enemies does not count. This goes for the fish in Perilous Piers, the ducks in Funhouse Frazzle, and all others.
You don’t need to get three parrys or come out with no damage. As long as you make it to the end without firing a single shot, you can get the Pacifist rank.
Without killing
No
No
Bro do you know that you can parry the tower/wall 's face, right? Great job btw
😂 😂 😂 😂 nop, thanks for the advice dude!
You're welcome
Was about to comment that lol
I get that in the normal boss fights you’re trying to steal their souls, but why does everyone in the run and guns hate you? This was thought through tears as I completed pacifist mode
I always think of them as friends of the bosses. The r&g with the sea- friends of the mermaid and the captain, since both use sea creatures in their fights. Forrest r&g- mostly cagney. Circus r&gs- beppi. Etc
This would make the most sense, thank you
They’re probably friends of the guys who’s souls you’re trying to steal.
My personal headcanon is that they are minions of the bosses sent to prevent the brothers from getting far. Cagney sent the Forest Follies minions, Brineybeard sent the Perilous Piers minions, Beppi sent the Funhouse Frazzle minions, etc.
The voice of Cuphead guessed that the brothers owed the R&G characters some money.
I am now curious on the other 3
that's really good theory
Definitely the kind of game you enjoy so much that you want to reward it by buying the DLC.
I love watching my plat vid for this. I was so locked in at the end I was just jumping around the falling chip perfectly and I love reliving that moment. I have no idea how many hours it took to finally beat him but it was a lot. Congrats 🎉
The fun thing is that I did that parry on the video by accident and so glad I did because it would have taken me out. I was so locked in that I didn't even noticed the super was charged
Don’t say that, it is that hard, u are very good playing and that’s it, I also got it 2 years ago, my 2nd favorite after Dark Souls 1
I just thought it would be harder because of all the boogeyman stories around it. But by no means it's a walk in the park
It’s mostly kids especially with how cuphead looks.
>Not as hard as the reputation it has.
Totally agree. I think it was the prefect level of difficulty for me.
I expected it to be way harder based on the stories i heard about it on release. It wasn't easy, but it wasn't some rage inducing impossible game either. Just a pleasant challenge
Exactly how I felt. Liked it so much that should be playing the DLC soon.
I think the dlc is a bit harder than base game, but nothing crazy. It was great
I’ve always wanted to go for it but always found it intimidating. How long did it take you?
Not OP but took me approx 20 hrs including dlc. If I were to redo this I think I could do it under 10 hrs as there is def some stuff to get used to at first but once you get a hang of the concept it's not too bad.
If you love a challenge go for it. It's not easy at all but once you get use to it, you'll get better amd better.

I am a bot. More info about me
Wouldn’t that make the game way easier? Have you at least played with the other weapons
Chaser is almost the worst weapon
I agree. But to be fair I’m just really good at dodging so this personally doesn’t seem to bad for me
YES , DO IT, PAIN!!!!!
Yeah you should do it
Yes.
I did the same thing. Playing through a second time using anything but Chaser makes it feel like such a different game.
