What Redditors are Saying

The Shadow Monarch in "Solo Leveling"

TL;DR The Shadow Monarch is a title held by Sung Jin-Woo, the protagonist of "Solo Leveling," representing his ultimate evolution and mastery over shadows and death.

Role and Significance

The Shadow Monarch is one of the most powerful entities within the universe of "Solo Leveling." As the Shadow Monarch, Sung Jin-Woo gains control over an army of shadows, which are essentially resurrected beings that serve him. This role signifies his transition from a mere hunter to a being with god-like powers, capable of commanding vast forces and wielding immense power [5:4].

Evolution and Powers

Sung Jin-Woo's journey to becoming the Shadow Monarch involves several upgrades and transformations. Initially, he starts as a player with limited abilities but gradually unlocks more potent skills and powers. Around chapter 220, he unlocks a skill called "Evolution," which allows him to fully embrace his identity as the Shadow Monarch [3:1]. This transformation removes previous limitations imposed by the system, enabling him to wield the full extent of the Shadow Sovereign's powers [3:2].

Comparison with Other Titles

While the title "Shadow Monarch" is significant, some discussions highlight alternative titles like "Shadow Sovereign." These titles reflect different aspects of Jin-Woo's character and abilities. The term "Sovereign" emphasizes his rule and dominion over shadows, while "Monarch" underscores his regal status among other powerful beings [5:1].

Narrative Importance

The concept of the Shadow Monarch plays a crucial role in the overarching narrative of "Solo Leveling." It ties into themes of power, responsibility, and transformation. As Jin-Woo evolves into the Shadow Monarch, he not only gains strength but also faces new challenges and responsibilities, reflecting a common motif in many fantasy and litrpg stories where characters ascend to higher levels of power through fulfilling specific requirements or quests [5:3].

In summary, the Shadow Monarch is a pivotal element in "Solo Leveling," encapsulating Sung Jin-Woo's growth and the broader thematic elements of the series.

Death of monarchs and absolute being as a whole made the universe where Jin woo stays relatively weaker, susceptible tothe attacks of other universes made by other "absolute beings". Main point is that they are otherworlders. They came from other universes

Dark Lord?

The whole 2274 is aura farming for Sunny but why isn't anyone calling him KING of SHADOWS? like king of sword, or queen of worms, Nephis the goddess of humanity. He is literally the King now. What the hell is "BOSS"? And why meeting him is so easy like he's the only supreme now other than Nephis, his sight only is a blessing for mundane or awakened.

There is 1 neph but 7 sunny. The shadow clan is a little more then 200 people 21/7=3 There is roughly 1 sunny for 30 clan member, so he probably know everybody and can take time with each member.

He probably follows everyone on their first mission to see what's up with them. After that, who knows? he might have an incarnation on the Black Castle, making meals and equipment for the clan one close to neph, another close to rain, and the other ones might go to explore.

>why isn't anyone calling him KING of SHADOWS?

Most people knew him as the Lord of Shadows, which is an imposing title already, since people of the past even called Shadow God that. And unlike the other Supremes, Sunny is only known to be fearful and sinister, so reverent titles such as "king" don't quite fit him in most people's minds.

>What the hell is "BOSS"?

Sunny has never been pompous, and in fact despises such behavior, so he probaly doesn't care what people call him, and since to him and Aiko the Shadow Clan is more like a weird extension of the Brilliant Emporium, added to the fact that the Clan members actually get to know how he really is like, it's no surprise that they just call him "boss".

>And why meeting him is so easy?

Again, he's never been pompous and dislikes most kinds of formalities, and most likely thinks of the Clan members as his literal employees, so he doesn't put any pompous act and just goes straight to the point. He's always been like this with the cohort, his own cohort in Antartica, and even Aiko, Supreme or not, it's still Sunny we're talking about.

Well technically yes but think of the current Jin Woo as beta test shadow monarch. Since all of his powers, shadows full potential and the rest of his army is not available too his due too the system.

He will become the true Shadow Monarch in a few chapters, which will be epic so keep reading.

5 upvotes on reddit
AladdinMathafacka · 5 years ago

>!The Shadow sovereign is the strongest "class". But Jin has limitations. But on some chapters he will be able to control the power of shadow sovereign without limits. He will lose the system tho. After all its job was done. The Limitation got removed but he still has to control the power of the shadows like the before user was able to. (Like making potions and stuff). I stopped reading after when he lost the system so i don't have more information than that!<

Yes, there's another upgrade around chapter 220. To not spoil you a lot, let's just say that Sung Jin Woo actually manages to unlock his "???" skill he's holding since the day he became a "player". You can see it in the manwha too. He has it in his skills in early chapters and it's such a big teaser lol.

If you wanna know what the skill is :

>!It's called "Evolution" and the condition for him to activate it to simply die. Yeah Sung Jin Woo is going full Sekiro Shadows die Twice on this one ahahah! (Because he's the Shadow Monarch, King of the Dead yada yada you know the deal...)!<

Sunny currently has 6 shadows under his control.
1 beast, 0 monsters, 1 demon, 2 devils, 1 terror, 1 titan. I suspect sooner or later Saint will obtain another source of true darkness to advance to Tyrant class. That means Sunny will have 1 of each class as shadows but a monster. Therefore Sunny's final shadow will likely be a monster... of high rank for power or of great utility.

Vtb is related to lust. Sin of lust is more than sexual lust. Lust is a sin of intense desire and craving of something that is forbodden or sinful. Vtb desire to steal is more than greed.

Saint -Pride

Nightmare - Sloth

Serpent - Envy

VTB - Lust

100% agree with you, OP. Much as I love the "Aura Farming," I fell in love with Solo Leveling because it really was just him soloing everything by himself.

Now save a few exceptions he's always summoning his shadows. I know they're technically a part of him, but I still don't consider it SOLO since he's receiving help in the form of his shadow soldiers.

Soloing the Red Gate would've been MUCH more difficult if not completely impossible without his Shadows there to help him

He even states in the Job Change Quest that he wouldn't be Solo Leveling anymore

Exactly my thoughts to balance the shadow monarch woukd be for him only able to summon maybe a dozen foot soldiers at a time and only able to summon boss fights ONE AT A TIME

Season 2 was a lot of flexing, but Kargalgon and Beru were still two of my favorite animated battles, even if the threat wasn't as present as Baran.

Season 1 slaps for a different reason though, because we see the evolution of his character as he struggles with his morals. I think episode 6 is still one of my favs all around.

Season 1 episode 6 is what hooked me in. "But I've got some bad news for you".. then he put that guy in the dirt after wiping his team in seconds. And that nice lady singing "death is gonna come for me". Goosebumps every time.

2349 made me think

Posted by i_hate_chemistryy · in r/ShadowSlave · 4 months ago

Death is a part of a process where the shadow of the living beings get "digested" in the shadow realm, become pure essence to start a new life. It was said that the shadow realm is a part of shadow god, his own manifested soul sea inside his own body, in other word the realm is a combine of his body and soul sea.

We also know that in the very middle of the realm, the strongest shadows of everything shadow god had killed is still there, and every other weaker ones are long gone, had turn to essence in the process.

Come to think of it, i realize that a lot of NC whose grade higher than tyrant are no longer use their "troops"(like anvil's swords, ki song's corpses or condemnation's asura). The only exception is the terror of LO49(a terror whom still had an army of dead body) and dark sea(a great titan) and Nightmare. All other titan act on their own, with no troops by their side.

I think once Sunny reach divine, or even just sacred, he would be able to merge his own soul sea with the shadow realm, release the weaker shadows for the process, and just keep the strongest by his side. I remember it was mentioned that the soul sea is at the place where the heart is, and remember "the strongest shadows are at the middle of the shadow realm"? Yeah that what i want to say

Eurys said there are corrupted shadows there now, I don't think Sunny would want them in his soul. And just think about it, probably every Unholy to die sits there in the middle as a shade. For Sunny to merge Shadow Realm as you say, he'd have to basically cleanse a Death Zone of divine level. I don't think even divine Sunny would do that easily, much less sacred.
