What Redditors are Saying

Where to Find Magnetite in Subnautica

TL;DR Magnetite is most commonly found in the Jellyshroom Caves and the Lost River.

Jellyshroom Caves

The Jellyshroom Caves are frequently mentioned as a reliable source for magnetite. Many players have reported finding plenty of magnetite on the floor of these caves [1:1][2:3][3:3]. The caves are accessible from the grassy plateaus biome, near the entrance marked by purple mushrooms [5:1]. Building a base with a scanner room at the top of one of the access tunnels can help locate magnetite more efficiently [4:2].

Lost River

The Lost River is another location where magnetite can be found. Although not as frequently mentioned as the Jellyshroom Caves, it is noted for having a variety of resources, including magnetite [2:2][4:6]. Exploring this area can yield additional valuable materials like nickel and uranite [2:5].

Mountains Biome

The Mountains biome is also suggested as a potential location for magnetite [3:5]. However, some players have found the Jellyshroom Caves to be a more fruitful option compared to the mountains [4:8].

Scanner Room Strategy

Using a scanner room can significantly aid in locating magnetite, especially in areas where it blends into the environment [4:1]. Setting up a scanner room in strategic locations like the Jellyshroom Caves or near the Alien Base can enhance your ability to find magnetite [4:2].

Additional Tips

When exploring deep caves, it's helpful to mark entrances with a beacon or pathfinder tool to ensure you can find your way out [5:3]. This is particularly important in regions like the Lost River, where navigation can become challenging [5:4].

I wasn't entirely sure if this was Spoilers or not but just to be safe...

I'm looking for magnetite to upgrade just about everything. I've looked it up like a thousand times but I just can't find any. I've checked the Sea Traders Path, I've went back to the Sunbeam site, yet nothing.

You can also find: Nickel and uranite, and if you want, try building a base in the center using thermal generator for energy

I've been playing this game for quite a while now but can't find any magnetite. I've checked almost every biome apart from the dunes and mountains and found nothing.

The jellyshroom caves are generally where I get mine. I'll build a base with a scanner at the top of one of the access tunnels, and as I get the magnetite I'll expand its scan radius so I can collect all I need for the entire run.

Wait until you get the radio call for Lifepod 17. Make sure to explore any big holes in the ground you spot in that general region. Important: mark the mouth of any particularly deep caves with a beacon or pathfinder tool so you can get out again. Some entrances are much more obvious before they become exits!

From the safe shallows, go towards the floating island. At the beginning of the grassy plateaus biome there is an entrance to a cave with purple mushrooms. Around those mushrooms there is magnetite

Jellyshroom cave. It's everywhere. Just came back from there last night and filled my entire inventory and my Seamoth's storage with them. It's close to the shallows and not particularly dangerous if you can make the depth.

Magnetite spawns most often in the Jellyshroom cave, bring your seamoth down there and either build a scanner room with the HUD chip or just look around for it.

I'm having a frustrating time looking for magnetite. And I'm at a point where it's an ingredient if I want to make any upgrades or new builds. The Mountains and the Blood Kelp Zone are either too deep or infested with leviathan.

Tons of magnetite is in the Jellyshroom Cave. Entrances to that are in most of the Grassy Plateaus, I think one might not have an entrance.

This is the answer, OP. Magnetite is laying all over, and it's (I think) the only biome that has large deposits of it.

Hell you can hug the roof with a non-updated Seamoth, sea glide down to the floor and still load up on magnetite pretty quickly.

Make sure you save first if you do that, I had a crabsnake pull my parked seamoth down below crush depth and it went poof while I was off picking up rocks.

Ippus_21 · 6 months ago

Jellyshroom caves are covered with it. You just can't take a seamoth in there without the appropriate depth module. I mean, you can get an unmodified seamoth in there--the very very top of the cave is just above 200m--but if you make one wrong move, you can crush your seamoth.

There may be one or two in the canyon near lifepod 19 if you don't want to go all the way down into the jellyshroom caves.

Most of the time I just use a seaglide with my ultra high capacity tank and I can get 15 of them before going back to my base which is right outside of the cave entrance in the grassy plateau.

This is how I accumulated magnintite during my brief time playing. If you pin a recipe that includes magnetite sea monkeys will hook you up. I just followed sea monkeys around in the deep lily pads until they gave me a dozen or so. Took 5 minutes. I think I pinned the scanner room range upgrade.

I’m not sure how far you are into the story but if you have traversed around the 500M mark you can continue to read this if not, I do not recommend it

The place where I find all the magnetite I needed the entire game was around the red (I think they are called cotton) mushrooms where you can find AL-AN’s skeletal structure, magnetite has changed colors a bit and blends in a lot more to the cave walls now so I found using a mineral detector helped immensely in finding the magnetite around the walls/ceilings hope this helps you!
