List your favorite contemporary choreographers please! Bonus if they have an instagram or website. Looking for a choreographer who is really into body movement as opposed to someone who just does tricks! Thank you in advance!
Ricky Ubeda did the choreography for about 6 of the 2025 TDA winners. His choreo is amazing!
Absolutely love his choreography but can’t figure out how to actually contact him!
Maybe DM on IG. I’m sure someone manages his account and will respond.
Bree Davis is a contemporary competition choreographer, that specializes in really unconventional movements. She had taken this season off, but was just saying how much she's missing it (Source, she's my daughter 😁).

Briannadavis.com
Kate Jablonski on YT. Her pieces are absolutely incredible.
Kate is such an inspiration
Mia Michaels
Rae-Ann Thomas is awesome to work with and definitely fits that description. She choreographed this piece.
Lauren: Rumba, paso, argentine tango, VW, (She reminds me of Rumer Willis when she performs)
Robert: Salsa, samba, cha cha, quickstep, Paso, contemporary, VW
Whitney: AT, VW, samba, jive, Paso
Jordan: Quickstep, charleston, cha cha, rumba, AT, VW
Elaine: All of the ballroom dancer tbh, AT and Paso
For Robert replace the salsa with the AT then I agree lol
Everything else is spot on lol I just think Robert can pull off an amazing AT!
I wouldn’t even replace them. I love salsas and I love AT. My least favorite of the styles you listed is Samba but I think he could be good at one.
See, samba is my favorite while I don't care for the salsa that's why I wanted Salsa replaced lol
i will absolutely combust if i don’t see a whit and mark contemporary this season lol
Wait I get what you mean about Lauren and Rumer!
I always want everyone to dance an Argentine tango
I’d love to see Jan choreograph a contemporary since that is his wheelhouse.
Daniella. She’s created really memorable dances even with inexperienced, underdog contestants. I cannot wait to see what routines she will choreograph when she has a ringer. She brings a lot of freshness and creativity to the show.
Also Jenna. Her choreography is creative, theatrical, and dramatic in the best way.
I think it's Emma, in my opinion she's the best at choreographing respecting the dance rules rather than focusing on lifts. Her ballroom routines are always great to watch. I love her choreographing "romantic" dances like rumba, Viennese waltz or slow waltz, and I still look forward to the day when she will receive a correct song for an Argentine tango. In my opinion, watching Emma's choreographies is delightful.
In second place I believe it's a tie between Sharna and Witney, with Jenna in third (I think she lacks in certain styles and some choreographies are a little plasticized and without any emotion).
Daniella
Daniella
Absolutely Dani! Her choreo has felt so fresh and exciting in her two seasons so far. I'm anyways looking forward to her performances. Witney is a very close second, those two women have some stellar creativity and the talent to match!
I think that would 100% be Daniella and Val. Their choreography is the only one I'm genuinely excited for, but i think the fact that they have something extra spicy in their movement and dancing also helps sell the choreography better than the other pros. If we also included last year's pros, Mark and Witney would also be up there for me.
Emma is one that continues to improve every season imo. She always had a standout dance or two and has been increasing in overall quality every year. A main highlight too is that she always shows off her partner's skills very well.
I really like her choreo, the only time I've been disappointed with it was the Cha Cha she gave James in the semi of season 28
i can't even blame Emma for that-they royally screwed her with the theme (seriously, you say you want a pure CCC, then throw them a song and theme that leans disco? this is why the pros needed creative control!)
Depends on who they are choreographing for tbh
I completely agree with this comment! Some celebs they just can’t make look good no matter what choreography they do.
And some pros do better with someone with dance experience because they don’t know how to choreograph down very well.
Daniella is very talented but let’s not ignore that fact that she sometimes uses big showy lifts and tricks to avoid doing actual dancing
Jenna Britt Dani and Emma for the girls. For the guys Alan, Val, and Artem.
If Mark is included, then Mark
Emma and Artem in my opinion. They choreograph for their partners, not for herselfs.
Who would you say have been the best choreographers on the show (in terms of the pro dancers)? We talk about how some of the pros tend to choreograph with the same tricks, and I’m trying to think of pros who were opposite from that.
Witney’s choreo (whether or not she actually does it by herself) has always been the most entertaining to me! Daniella has also been killing it Nelly and really giving him moves he can execute. Mark is great with the guys, and I think Val while day to day he might not be the best, he still has put together some of my favorite routines to date
Witney is actually one of my least favorite choreographers overall, there's usually too much hip hop for my liking. I can't remember what the dance was but I absolutely loved the one she did with Frankie where he was creeping outside of the window. Daniella and Pasha have been amazing! I really hope they stick around and get ringers at some point.
I think Lindsay is really creative and also does a good job at choreographing routines that really highlight her pro, regardless of their talent level.
Pasha
I think daniella is already turning into one of my favorite pros. Obsessed with her
Me too. My bf who indulges me watching even remarked at how good she was.
In terms of choreo and creativity Mark : always taking a risk even if sometimes it's by going safe (like Lindsey's Disney Foxtrot). Lindsay and Derek in terms of efficiency because they always managed too make them parters look at least decent.
Shout-out to Pasha, Daniella, Britt and Brandon who I'm excited to see in future seasons.
I love Val's ability to tell a story. It just makes the dance so much better.
Dani for the women Val for the men
Val and Pasha seem like the only ones really putting in any effort
Val again doing some of his best work.
And what are the programs they’ve choreographed that you think everyone should watch?
I think Rohene Ward’s programs for Jason Brown put him up there for me.
Do you have any favorite underrated choreographers?
- Christopher Dean
- David Wilson, particularly Yuna Kim's Gershwin program
- A few Gadbois programs, although I would say the choreographers are far from underrated. Anything from them that's not Virtue/Moir, Fear/Gibson, or Papadakis/Cizeron is kinda half-assed tbh
- Ilia Averbukh, for all his manbabyness, did great work with Yulia Lipnitskaya and Evgenia Medvedeva
- Jeffrey Buttle has never really had any misses
- Lori Nichol (Mao Asada, Michelle Kwan, all the pairs skaters she's worked with)
- Marina Zueva (Virtue/Moir, Gordeeva/Grinkov, and White/Davis)
- Nikolai Morozov, even though he's legit evil, makes some masterpieces when he's willing to put in the effort, i.e. Michelle Kwan's Spartacus and Ilinykh/Katsalapov's Swan Lake
- Shae-Lynn Bourne (Yuzuru's Seimei is otherworldly)
- Tatiana Tarasova (albeit batshit) had great programs with Michelle Kwan, Mao Asada, and Sasha Cohen
My favourite choreographers are also very hit-and-miss choreographers: Shae-Lynn Bourne, Ilia Averbukh, and Benoît Richaud. I also find that when I like a program from Sambo-70, Eteri had a hand in choreographing it, so I suppose I could add her to the list too though it seems like she's stepped back from that a bit lately.
>I also find that when I like a program from Sambo-70, Eteri had a hand in choreographing it
the shade lmao, but I agree.
lori nichol for sui and han. just absolutely magic. also lori nichol for satoko. amazing. phenomenal. (and tom dickson for satoko. actually,,,,,,, anyone for satoko she makes everything look so good)
also, this is mildly off topic but i’m still so fascinated by mihoko higuchi as a choreographer and she has no wikipedia page? she did mao’s carmen (among others) shoma’s everything up until he left, rino matsuike’s stuff, and she did kanako’s phantom short (the only good phantom) among others. i generally haven’t like,,,,,, hated any of the choreography she’s done, she’s responsible for the best phantom program and the chaotic majesty that is loco, and she has a selection of delightfully odd music choices (where the hell did she find shoma’s 2015-16 sp? we will never know). anyways if anyone knows of any other choreo she’s done i would be very happy to have a look at it
edit: forgot to mention averbukh! he's sometimes a hit or miss for me but when he hits he hits. Misha's Nureyev is a masterpiece
Also (and I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad news) but she also choreographed all of Mako Yamashita's programs. That included Una Voce Poco Fa
True but I love her madame butterfly program. So I guess I'm 50/50 😅
I think I’m in the minority here - I love that program of Mako’s
Honestly Satoko could make Danni G's horrendous choreo bearable.
Lori Nichols, especially her pair’s body of work, which I think is stunning.
Yup. Came here to say her Sui/Han programs.
I think sui/han are the most inspiring skaters she’s ever worked with, anyone would be able to choreograph good programs for them, they have this star quality that makes anything work. I don’t like any of the work she’s done with other skaters
lori nichol, benoit richaud (only the stuff he did for kaori though), Shae-Lynn Bourne
I know P21 hired some new teachers so we’ll probably see some new dances come out of the studio but do you think we’ll see some new choreographers rise to the forefront of the dance community soon? I’ve noticed that a lot of the same big names like Molly Long, Shannon Mather, Ricky Ubeda, Chase Hudson, Danny Lawn, and Travis Wall (I don’t know why people are still hiring him but), etc. have been consistently recognized for years (and for good reason, their work is amazing). I just feel like it would be exciting to see some fresh choreographers gain more recognition alongside them. What do you think?
I liked Bella Mills who choreographed Lexi’s urban soundtrack solo. And yes, Lucy too. I also do really like Brady Rowan and glad p21 brought him on!
I thought Urban soundtrack was the standout P21 solo of the entire season, I absolutely loved it! Hope Lexi is healing and is up to dancing again soon, she is one of my faves😍✨⭐️💜
She’s been taking some classes for the past couple weeks and went to camp protege and seems to be doing really well so far!!
Lucy Vallely has been gaining some popularity, she choreographed some P21 solos last season and started teaching for Nuvo. Her work so far has been really good
Was just thinking I'd love to see more of Lucy's choreo on P21 dancers!
Renee Baldwin, Hailee Payne, Kirsten Russell
I think Jazelle is up and coming, she’s growing more & more popular!
I think Nathan Lopez could have a bigger breaktheough in the near future, especially since N10 has been gaining popularity

This will be one of my last genuine appreciation threads for a while so it breaks up my thoughts and doesn't seem to much like spamming or anything like that, I just have very long bus rides home and to volunteering so I tend to think and write the most during these times and this is the only forum I really am active in so please bare with me lol.
At first from working out in my room and trying to learn the 'Save Me' by BTS Dance to now trying to dance as a workout in my apartment although I have improved on some parts it helps give me that admiration for idols in general. Especially when they have so many back to back comebacks all within the same year. But at the same time I've come to really enjoy choreography videos and dance practices in general, although I still personally love BoyFriends Witch, Obsession Era and the dance practice they did with the light up chairs I also love the iconic YG iKON/Winner Dance Practice Room (a little basis there in all fairness as I love those groups) but it wasn't up until to long ago I branched out from artists I followed and began watching other dance practices for different artists such as MCND's classic of their ICE AGE choreography.
I used to write a lot for these two kpop sites and would write about various artists, independent artists, newly debuted and stuff like that. Although by far some of the most popular and talked about dancers are Taemin, Hoshi, Ten, San, Lee Know, Kai, Chaeyeon and many many others. (Sorry don't follow a ton of female artists).
Each artist has their own style, from Astro's really tasteful yet brilliantly done choreo such as my fav All Night, to A.C.E's UnderCover (yes I'm worried for BK's back and their poor knees...), Clover or Callin, to songs and dance practices to ATEEZ and XIKERS footwork causing the lights to shake, TXT's unique take on choreography (their poor backs...), or even the style of DKB's dance practice and acro bactic practice from their pre debut are really cool. Sure not everyone is always going to be the best dancer all the time and not everyone in the group will suit dancing, but its really enjoyable to just see so many options for dance and dance practices now.
Even if I do still truly watch Ten's solo choreography videos, you can really tell when some enjoy what they do and it makes it even better, but sometimes it doesn't always get as noticed to. Here are some of my favourites outside of just my ults (but please do check out 8TURN!) that I personally enjoy watching and want to highlight and my favourite releases so far~:
(I may not know a ton of some of these suggestions but I do recommend them!, also I didn't realize how hard it was to dance in timberlands (those boots you see everywhere...)
1. AIMERS.
I really enjoy their style and musical sound, its cool that two members are of the same former group Spectrum. They just released their preview for some video/dance to, I'm curious for the full review. Debuted 2022.
2. Arrc. Debut 2024.

3. NEXZ.* Debut 2024.
Simmer & Choreography videos.
4. POW. Debuted in 2023.
Thanks, appreciation posts are my favourite. I saw yours as a good opportunity to check out all of these groups because I haven't had time to pay much notice to anyone new in the past year or two. The fact that you mentioned the choreography of ATEEZ, A.C.E, ASTRO, DKB, MCND and BOYFRIEND helped too.
I so enjoyed the AIMERS Starry Night choreography that I looked up the choreographer. The Starry Night choreography reminded me of watching an ASTRO dance practice.
I love the way ARrC' move together in the loop.dll choreography and this was another song where I checked out another performance and then the choreographer's demo version.
The NEXZ suggestions had me checking out more of their dance practices too.
As a lover of dance, your post was a fun introduction to each group and a reminder that I should check out new releases more frequently. So, thanks again.
Awe that's actually incredibly sweet! I know I may not be a 'true' or the best dancer myself but theres so much talent out there and its so hard to keep on top of all the releases sometimes. I'm glad you liked some of my favourites/suggestions :-)
Who are the best choreographers of 2024
While I can't provide specific names for 2024, I can share some key considerations when evaluating choreographers:
Style and Versatility: Look for choreographers who excel in multiple dance styles (ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, etc.) and can adapt their work to various performances.
Innovative Work: The best choreographers often push boundaries and bring fresh ideas to their choreography, incorporating new techniques or themes.
Recognition and Awards: Consider those who have received accolades from prestigious organizations, such as the Tony Awards, Emmy Awards, or dance festivals.
Collaborations: Successful choreographers often collaborate with renowned dancers, directors, and companies, enhancing their visibility and impact in the dance community.
Influence on the Industry: Look for choreographers who are shaping the future of dance through teaching, mentorship, or contributions to dance education.
By staying informed about the dance scene, you'll be able to identify the leading choreographers as 2024 unfolds!
