TL;DR: The Audi Q7 is generally well-regarded for its luxury, comfort, and driving dynamics. Owners appreciate its spacious interior, advanced technology, and smooth ride. However, concerns about reliability, maintenance costs, and some common issues (like water leaks from the sunroof) persist. Overall, it’s a solid choice for those seeking a premium SUV, but potential buyers should be aware of the associated upkeep.
Performance and Driving Experience
The Audi Q7 is praised for its powerful engine options, including a 3.0L V6 that delivers strong performance while maintaining good fuel efficiency for its class 2 (2:34). Many owners report a smooth and comfortable ride, making it an excellent long-distance vehicle. One owner noted that their 2019 Q7 has been "almost flawless" over six years, highlighting its reliability and lack of interior noise
9:1. The Quattro all-wheel-drive system provides excellent traction, especially in adverse weather conditions, contributing to a confident driving experience
6:1.
Interior Quality and Comfort
The Q7's interior is often described as luxurious, with high-quality materials and a well-thought-out design. Owners appreciate the spaciousness, particularly in the second row, which allows for comfortable seating even on long trips 4:8. The third row, while usable, can feel cramped for adults. The infotainment system, featuring a dual touchscreen setup, is generally well-received, although some users find it less intuitive than traditional controls
5 (1:50). The Bang & Olufsen audio system is frequently highlighted as one of the best in its class, enhancing the overall driving experience
5 (1:58).
Reliability and Maintenance Concerns
While many owners report positive experiences, there are notable concerns regarding the Q7's long-term reliability. Issues such as water leaks from the panoramic sunroof have been reported, which can lead to significant electronic problems if not addressed promptly 1 (2:31). Additionally, maintenance costs can be higher compared to non-luxury brands, which may surprise new owners
8:1. Some users recommend purchasing an extended warranty to mitigate potential repair costs down the line
8:8.
Common Issues and Owner Experiences
Several discussions highlight common issues faced by Q7 owners, including electrical problems related to the MMI system and sensor failures 5 (0:21). Despite these concerns, many owners express satisfaction with their vehicles, citing that regular maintenance and care can lead to a rewarding ownership experience. For instance, one owner mentioned having a 2023 model with minor issues that were quickly resolved under warranty
8:6.
Final Thoughts
The Audi Q7 stands out as a premium SUV that combines luxury, performance, and practicality. While it does come with some reliability concerns and potentially high maintenance costs, many owners find it to be a worthwhile investment due to its comfort and driving dynamics. Prospective buyers should weigh these factors carefully and consider obtaining a comprehensive warranty for peace of mind.
Former B8 S4 owner: loud injectors and is way more pronounced when hood is popped, the timing sounds fine, seems ok to me
Yea just started today I was on it and definitely needs a carbon walnuts blasting
Yeah if the car is new to you, do carbon clean for sure
Mine sounds similar - doesn’t have any issues (yet)
That tick tick tick is so annoying comes and goes
It can be but nothing is wrong with the car. Just older and higher mileage in most cases. Have you had to do any major repairs?
Sounds like modern injectors to me
I was thinking the same carbon build up thanks
Walnut blast✨️
My 2014 q7 3.0 does this. Last week engine light came on. Found engine#3 has low compression. What you guys think it is? Valves seals?
It's already affected hiring practices where I work
It'll be the one good thing he's done.
My husband’s employer is likely to just outsource more work to teams in India.
Like everything he does its designed to create chaos and a sense of crisis so he can prop himself up as savior when he reverses
Throughout his 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump often claimed that his efforts against immigration were primarily against irregular or illegal immigration, and that he was happy to have people go through “proper channels.” Those assurances got weaker as he moved into his first term, but he still made at least rhetorical overtures to legal immigration — he had to appease a business community that was still skeptical of his then-new political movement.
Now, Trump and anti-immigration ideologues like Stephen Miller have succeeded at targeting the pipeline of international students and foreign workers on visas like the H-1B. They’ve crafted a narrative about outsourced workers replacing native-born ones. But in actuality, this wide-ranging campaign now threatens to hamstring industries across the economy.
This public perception of the H-1B visa system imagines bringing in cheaper (and, the stereotype goes, often lower-skilled) international labor, especially in technology spaces. This undeniably has happened; there have in the past been a few outsourcing firms hoovering up masses of the visas, and as there is research backing up that employers have behaved in exploitative ways toward workers that are effectively tethered to them by law and far less able to seek better conditions or organize.
But this is only one piece of the puzzle — an increasingly small one in recent years, as the Biden administration took steps to rein in abuses, extending into the weeks leading up to Trump’s inauguration. The other side of the coin is that H-1Bs are often used to populate the workforces of technical industries that simply cannot find domestic workers with the skills or expertise at the volumes they need, a sort of mirror image of industries like agriculture and construction’s reliance on often undocumented workers for jobs that locals can’t or won’t do. That includes tech, yes — and indeed the biggest beneficiary is Amazon — but also high-tech manufacturing, educational services, consulting, healthcare delivery and research, and even ostensible Trump priorities like a domestic semiconductor industry, which is highly dependent on the visa.

Like the chaos of American tech workers training their H1B replacements being fired and not finding another job. There I fixed it for you.
"Mission Accomplished"
It's fine if not but I'm just curious. First off is Renee the #1 long term hottest, most fun it'd have been to see take a bump, get koed that we never got one from ? Or someone else ?
Also not even just in terms of the non wrestler sell factor of our likes here in the sub but in general just as a normal wrestling fan it always kinda rubbed me wrong that we never got a single sell from Renee. Almost every long term ace reporter, interviewer, commentator, ring announcer etc ever from indies to WWE have almost always had at least one legit bump, sell in their career. Renee has now been an ace reporter in the two biggest company's for over a decade and has been given more attention, shine, opportunities from them than anyone ever and we've never got anything from her. It makes it even more weird, noticable her being moxley, Ambrose's wife openly in kayfabe and real life and him for a long time being a brutal hardcore heel even one that plants females with moves etc. So her taking a bump by an angry mox rival just kinda writes itself.
In my opinion greatest backstage female presence of all time is between Renee and Lillian Garcia but I give Lillian the edge simply because of this fact. Lillian was there almost half the time Renee was (even before aew) and while pushed wasn't pushed to the extent of Renee and we got 2 huge bumps from Lillian and another 1-2 small ones.
So that's basically my questions. 1. Is Renee the biggest miss ever? And 2. Does it annoy you?
Renee is perfect in her role. Free to do what she likes.
No argument from me on that. I thought it was weird that she got physical with Miz cause i knew she had no in-ring training
I mean this with all due respect. What the fuck are you talking about?
Yeah I’m reading this like “I’m not sure what you mean.” Missed opportunity as a backstage interviewer or pre and post-show host? I mean that is honestly not something that affects my experience in any way. Also Cathy Kelly and Jackie Redmond are hotter than her sooooo
To be honest. OP post kind of comes off as goonbait here.
You do better your quite literally in a sub that it's description and name explain it's about non wrestlers taking bumps etc right? With all due respect. Can you read ?
I wish I could upvote this 1000x to emphasize just how exactly you mirrored my own thought here.
You do realize this is a kink based sub? Idk what has occurred with so many self ritieous pure fans joining here recently but so you even look at the posts in the sub ? This sub is and has always been a kink based sub ?
I have a feeling she’s getting involved in the I quit match with Darby and Moxley
How? Darby's got no issue with Renee, that's what Marina's there to do, and they got Garcia.
I used to love her interviews and thought she was great, I would agree
She's smoking hot, I know that
Our new Q7 has been home with us for about a month now, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this car! It’s SO luxurious. After having non-German cars for a while it was hard to take the plunge (because we all know maintenance can suck $$$), but I’m so glad we did. After test driving multiple SUVs this size I can confidently say that there was nothing else on the market that had the safety features and space we wanted without sacrificing performance and aesthetics. The prestige trim is 100% worth it, and the ‘black optic’ package has me feeling so cool in the carpool line. We also picked up a large piece of furniture this past weekend, and it was no issue fitting it in the car (the adjustable height in the rear is so amazing)
If you’re looking for a high performance SUV, this is absolutely the one. The only other car I drove that came close was the x7, and it’s 20k more for the same trim level as the prestige. We couldn’t be happier.
Congrats on your Q7! They are lovely cars. If all goes as planned, I’ll be purchasing a Silver prestige tomorrow. It also has the black optic package. I’m super excited.
Cheers to you on yours as well! It really is an amazing car. The black optic really gives it such a cool look, which is hard to find when you’re looking for a larger suv.
Yes, I absolutely love the Black Optics Package. I have it on my all New 2025 SQ5 in Mythos Black.
Sounds like you're actually using it for what it was made for too! They are definitely great cars and if you keep to scheduled maintenance it should serve you well for many years to come.
yuuuge… why does mum need a bus?
Car seats, strollers, two massive dogs that go everywhere with us… just a short list of the many reasons to go to a 7 seater. Not sure where you’re located, but in the southern united states this isn’t even considered a ‘large SUV.’ Everyone is driving Yukon XLs, Tahoes, etc.
In those black optics it does not look like "mom car" 😆
They are weirdly cavernous. It’s one of the very few cars I can set my seat to a comfortable driving position, get out and then go sit behind myself; every other car I turn into a 3 seater.
Have seen a few posts about repairs, satisfaction for Audi etc.... Sharing my long term experience, 153,638 miles, one owner, 2016 D4. The car has been near bullet proof, and is an awesome car to drive. The car has had zero modifications (except the black powder coat wheels at 90K miles). Purchased new in December 2015, total maintenance (tires, oil changes, major services, repairs) = $19,811. All service done by my local Audi dealership. I follow all Audi recommended services. My personal opinion is that if you follow the mfg recommended maintenance, you will be happier in the long run. This translates to $170.79/month for maintenance cost of ownership, not including gasoline. It is certainly not inexpensive. Long term mileage is 25.3 mpg.
The original audi paint job is top quality. I run this through car washes (with brushes) 9 months out of the year. Every 3 years, I clay bar the paint, take my random orbital polisher to take the swirls out, followed by polish, then wax. The front of the car has a few rock chips, but barely noticeable. I live in the midwest, we get a lot of sand hitting the front end during the winter months. The stock exhaust has a perfect sound, although having 450hp helps.
I had the brakes first changed at 91,542 miles, and hopefully won't have to do until 180K. Original battery. It has been a great car. All electrical components still work perfect. I would imagine I would start having to replace bigger ticket items related to suspension, but so far so good. I have had two challenges. First was the thermostat housing needing replaced, twice. The second was serious, the turbos needing replaced at 93,209. Fortunately Audi reimbursed me on this due to recall/warranty (over $9K!).
I test drove a few new cars (Lexus) last week, and nothing gave me any interest. I am having a hard time thinking of selling this car for 11K-12K when I feel it would be a steal at that price and I think the design is better than a lot of new cars. My ideal goal now is to keep this car until 250K miles if possible.
If I were forced to buy a new car, I could see leaning toward the Genesis G90. I really like their interior/exterior design. I sat in a G90 at "Genesis House" in NYC, it was simply gorgeous. Unfortunately the closest Genesis dealership is about 120 miles away. Would the G90 reach 150K-250K as well as the A8 though? Would it be as fun to drive?
We also own two Kias. We have had good luck with Kias the past 20 years. We just purchased a '26 Sportage Hybrid Prestige, I am amazed at the technology and ride of this vehicle. We also own a '25 Seltos. We like Kias because their cars come loaded with standard tech/features and we like the design of the vehicles inside and out, they tend to be a good value proposition.
I’m in the same boat as you in that I have a 2015 A7 tdi that I love. It’s got 180k miles on it so I’ve kinda started looking for something else. But..nothing so far makes me wanna consider it. I just don’t know what I’d like better.
I did drive a g80 recently and was not impressed. At all. (I know you said 90). The 80 had a 70k sticker price and I thought who in the hell would pay that.
In the end I’ll probably get a newer gasser a7.
2014 a7 tdi here. Only 116k. And bought my wife a q7 so my low miles are going down even lower. Love the 3.0 tdi. Even in stock form it has plenty of juice.
I did a Malone stage 2 on mine and left all emissions intact. It’s been amazing.
If it helps, I have a C8 A7 and genuinely can’t imagine owning anything else. IMO it’s everything you could ever want and/or need from a daily. When my 19’ is ready for owner #3 I’ll be on the hunt for a CPO C8 S7.
I looked at used G80s (previous gen) last year when I was shopping around. I thought it was fine. My wife thought it was an “old people’s car”.
Then we test drove an A4 and were both really impressed by the interior and refinement of the car.
The G90 has some cool features and all, but the small things are seriously lacking. It has a lot of Kia-isms, as I like to call it. It’s very cheap under the skin. 3/36 included maintenance is great but only available if you buy new, which means spending 6 figures on a really fancy Kia. The included maintenance is just the basics - like fluids, filters, tire rotations, G90’s only get wiper replacements included as well. But none of the big stuff or consumables, so is it really even worth it in the first place? Like I said, they’re just a Kia at the end of the day and their maintenance schedule reflects that as well. I’ve worked for both Audi and Genesis and simply put, Genesis just isn’t an enthusiasts brand like the VAG community is.
I’ve put lots of miles on a G90 we had for service and it just wasn’t it for me. The automatic doors definitely blew some minds in the Costco parking lot, but that’s about where the cool factor ends. Meanwhile my A6 still excites me at well over 220K miles. Maybe I’m just a hater lol. But that’s my experience.
Could you elaborate why Genesis still feels like a Kia? Pretty surprised to hear that.
I've had a love hate relationship with my 2019 A6. The ADAS is actual garbage and dangerous, I know it's not self driving but it's not even helpful in the slightest besides ACC. My 2019 S60 Volvo is way better than whatever tech Audi uses. Meanwhile Genesis is ahead of the curve from the review's I've seen and has some level of automation. It also has remote start, you can summon the car out of a spot with key fob, it has auto hold, and I love the blind spot camera function. Also Audis build quality is subpar, my speakers rattle like a cheap Honda Civic. Not to mention the facelifted interior is so bland and uninspiring
Thanks for the comment about the G90. I don't think you are a hater lol, the Audi's drive really nice, firm, and solid. I just don't want to pay 100K for another car. When you add up the insurance, yearly licensing, depreciation, it's a huge hit. When I am ready, I would probably lean toward a two year old flagship sedan (Audi A8, Mercedes S500 or G90). I love the big sedans to let someone else take the depreciation hit.
20k for 8y/150k miles is bulletproof for some of a nightmare for others.
And if you add in all the work under warranty, your at 2-3k/year of repairs/maintenance.
Completely agree. When you add tires every 3-4 years and major service every 20K miles it drives up expenses quickly, and this doesn't include unexpected repairs.
Do give the new A8 a try. It's a good value relative to most other things on the used market. I bought mine with 7600 miles and one owner, no accidents, for 56% below MSRP. It's got nearly every option on it, and the most important ones for sure- dual pane glass and massaging seats.
The air suspension is significantly revised from the D4 to be much much softer, but I have never thought of it as floaty or undulating. It's tuned incredibly well as both a luxury sedan and a car that's not a total snore for someone who enjoys driving.
I’m at 95k on my ‘16 S6 and although I know I have some big ticket items looming (motor mounts, control arms) I am finding this car extremely reliable and have the same feeling of confidence in it just from doing the regular recommended maintenance.
Having past VWs and Audis helps get you to that line of thinking for sure
Awesome you’re an original owner and still keeping up with it at 150k. Certainly not normal sadly
I sometimes think about how I would love to trade mine out for a D4 S8. I’m not sure which chassis I love more, they’re both so pretty, comfortable, fast, and luxurious. And the V8 is intoxicating
Congrats on 10 years of excellent ownership and maintenance.
2018 4M SQ7 with 150000mls/250000kms on the odo.
Took us everywhere- never let us down. The rear axle steering und active suspension are gamechangers.
Children and wife will sleep whereas I eat miles on the highway at a fast pace (mainly Germany) Good seats, good NVH, good reliability. It is so versatile, spacy, comfy, you can easily do 1200km in a day and will not feel down or tired. I also like the stealth wealth appeal of it - it drives better than the RR L405 but it is way less shouty and loud.(haven’t tried the new one yet).
Thank you Audi! Let’s pray you find back to your core values!
Wtf don’t they make that model again?! SQ7 American? I’ve owned two S6’s, one with the old V10 and the newer in with the V8T. Jesus!
This gorgeous, 2019 AWD Q70L 3.7 Luxe with the Sensory package got traded in for an Audi at the dealership I work for, I test drove it and immediately fell in love. I’m coming from a 2011 WRX that I also loved, but had 160k miles and a bit more rust than I was comfortable with. I will miss the 5 speed manual, and I do find the 7 speed a bit temperamental when trying to downshift but aside from that bit change, it has been a treat.
Blacked out the Chrome, added 35% ceramic tint all around, Weathertech floor and trunk liner, wind visors, and a front/rear dash cam. There are a few additional things I had some questions about, as far as aftermarket for these cars, Pickens are slim. I’d love a good catback to give the exhaust a touch more volume, but there are only exhaust systems for the Q70, not the Q70L. Is a custom setup what people have done? Or just modified say, the Stillen exhaust system? The 2015-2016 Q50 and 60 have the 3.7, are the long tube intake systems for those compatible with the Q70? Or is that a custom job as well? Lastly, I am currently at 130k miles. It was driven mostly as a work vehicle on the highway, but the transmission and differential fluids, worth a change at that mileage?
I appreciate any feedback, thanks for the welcome!
Congrats! Car is a beauty. I ended up going with a custom 2.5” stainless setup on my Q70L. It sounds amazing at high RPM a little louder than I want it to be a low RPM but still sounds good. No drone, very similar to the Stillen. My fab shop literally just copied the specs and made it for a fraction of the price.
Its looking like this will be my option, I’d hate to have to buy a nice exhaust to only cut it up before installing it, I’ll find a reputable shop near me and see what they can do. Thank you!
Get a Stillen and take it to a shop that can cut and weld. They will have pipe stock already on hand if they do this regularly. I had a shop put G37 Coupe Stillen exhaust on my QX70 SUV. They just needed to cut and extend the exhaust tips 5 inches. Everything else bolts on exactly, hangers and everything exact same. Likewise i would look at pictures of a G37 Sedan stillen exhaust to see how it compares to the Q70L. I have a G37 Sedan with the Stillen exhaust too. Obviously didn't need modifications because it was built for the car.
If you find a good shop you’ll be happier with the outcome and find it cost efficient.
Congrats, the chrome delete and tint look clean. Can you look up the service history to see if those two fluids were recently changed?
When I buy a used car, I typically change all the fluids and air filters. Should be convenient for you since you work at a dealer.
Thank you! I’m a tech and I certified the car, it got an accessory belt, filters, oil and rotate, a brake fluid flush, and I cleaned and lubed the brake pads.
I thought I had more pictures since I had it tinted but I will take more.
The carfax has plenty of entries, but I don’t see anything recent as far as transmission and diffs, the car has been serviced local to me so it shouldn’t be too hard to go to a dealer and check, that will be on my list in the coming weeks.
Also came from a similar Subaru but a 2011 2.5i Impreza. Love that design and gen
I went to a 17 qx50 but I hear sunroofs leaking due to drain issues is something to really keep an eye on.
Transmission, transfer case, and diffs are about all you have left in services.
I would check for leaking valve covers, which happen on these. I am on round two for valve covers gaskets done by the dealer under warranty. When I do them next, I’ll be doing covers and gaskets since the warranty is out.
Check the plugs, too. Only go with NGK’s if they need changed.
Enjoy the new ride!
Bought the top trim with all bells and whistle Audi Q7 but when I read online, people have been trashing Audi in terms of reliability and I am concerned if I made a wrong choice.. is it not a reliable car?
We love our 2018. Approaching 90k miles with no issues so far. It's our favorite car we've owned. So comfortable, plenty of power to not feel like a boat, great tech.
2018 as well, Premium Plus 3.0 with 144,000 miles. Had to do the Berryman B12 piston soak to get oil consumption under control. Other than that and engine mounts it's been great.
2018 Prestige 60k miles, Black, cedar interior, Bang and Olufsen, 4 wheel drive, and air suspension
Love it!
You haven't had the 9k AC evaporator leak yet?
Fello 2018 owner here with the same feedback!
I bought a 2023 with all the bells and whistles and I love it. So far it has been a fantastic vehicle and very reliable. It’s a beast in the snow during winter, and it’s a super comfortable ride on road trips.
2023 Q7 Prestige here...love it!
Recently bought a new 2025, fully loaded. Knock sensor went out at 600 miles. 4 days in the shop. MMI randomly locks up needing a reboot. Check engine light flashing yellow and yelling at me that all the avoidance devices don't work. Can't recall the code off the stop of my head,, but apparently it is related to a recall that will be happening once the software is done in a few months. Just reset the MIL (they said don't worry about it). Oh, and the CarPlay is unstable as hell.
This is my fourth Audi (2x Q7, 2x Q5) and so far a lot of problems for less than 1000 miles. Love the car though and the third row seating is what threw it over the line versus buying an X5.
We have had 2019, 2021 and now 2025. All were great to drive. Make sure to buy long term warranty if you’re keep it. Everyone the lease is up, we contemplate buying it but we end up leading a new one. The 2025 has the combination of features we wanted so this might be a keeper.
Black optics, color options for the dash and doors, door rings, ventilated seats, v6, RS7 rims
Could not justify the 20k more
It’s the internet, it does not take long to find haters of just about anything. I’m sure there is a Reddit thread on how Santa Claus is a terrible person. There isn’t a car brand that is perfect. We have had our 2020 Q7 for 5 years and can say it has been a good car. As others have said maintenance is more costly, but you bought an Audi not a Honda so hopefully this does not come as a surprise. Car drives great and it’s nice there aren’t 7 of the EXACT SAME vehicle at the stop light…..looking at you Kia Telluride.
I would argue that our 2019 q7 is better built than my 2021 audi rs6. The q7 has been almost flawless through our 6 years of ownership and has zero creaks/noises on the interior. The RS6 is a riot to drive and is one of the most beautiful modern Audis but there’s always some noise coming from the dashboard or the doors.. could be something to do with the materials used or the stiffer suspension, either way it’s a day and night difference with the older q7.
Q7s rejoice! You got great taste in vehicles my man
Love the way you say ‘our’ Q7 but ‘my’ RS6 🤣
lol, well my wife refuses to ride in the rs6 so.. 🤷
Too loud? Too low?
I’d be sad to have to take that Q7 out all the time
Why? I'm actually looking at getting either an RS6 or SQ7.
Man; that RS6 looks like a concept drawing with the overpronounced rims. But it's actually real.
Best looking station wagon ever.
I agree it’s sooo good looking I love it
This
That picture doesn't do justice to how imposing it looks irl.
I saw my buddy taking it for a drive today… first time I saw it driving away… looks pretty bad ass I agree
Had a '17 Q7. Wish I would have fixed it and kept it. Really one of the best vehicles I've owned.
Oh well, maybe I'll get another.
The newer ones are worse. Worse engine, awful touchscreens and fake exhaust.
Been wanting an Audi again. Had an C4 S6 sedan before. Walked in for a 2020 TRD 4 runner with 40k miles but left with a 2020 Audi Q8 premium plus with 58k miles. NO “RAGRETS” lol want to tune it but I paid 6k (ripoff) for a 5 year/60k miles VSC “everything covered”warranty. Bringing it to Audi in a week to get the alternator done per recall. Should I ask Audi to check the water pump or go elsewhere. Title is clean and it was routinely serviced. Any advice on this beautiful baby? Gonna drive it twice a year from Minnesota to California and back.
I’m jealous that you get to drive twice a year to and from Minnesota and California. Roadtrips in butter smooth cars are a blast.
Yeah I’m taking it for the first time to cali and back for 4th of July. looking forward to the 27 hour drive and really getting to know my new Gal.
Hell yeah. Let her open up on those open roads
This is my 8th Audi (previously B6 S4, B7 RS4, C6 A6, B6 S4 Cabrio(still have it), C6 S6, C6 A6 #2, C7 S6), and picking favorites is like picking favorite kid... but this SQ7 is at least top 3 I think? RS4 was #1... that is a special car, still looking for another (previous one sold to get new house after second kid on the way, otherwise I would have been buried in it). The two S6's were also amazing. This one blends both in a bigger package for me.
This became a coffin car when I first saw it in 2020; the Star Trek TNG interior, the sleek sleeper looks, the utility, and OMFG the PDCC/limited slip sports package + 500hp 4.0TT, NICE. After a year of hunting while driving my C7 S6 with extended warranty expired and the fevered nightmares of a grenading turbo toasting the engine (it had 55K mi before getting the oil screen recall done), the stars aligned.
More specifically... finances, a decent offer on the S6 ($18.2k from Carvana, they sold it a week later for $23k, fine with me :): https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/3512895 ), and the right CPO SQ7 Prestige considering mileage/condition/price that had Sports package (pretty rare!), Luxury package, and a few other bonus packages. After hearing an example, I am sad I didn't manage one with the B&O Advanced package. The Premium stock B&O is decent, but the Advanced is amazing! I figured I could upgrade the stereo bits tho... much harder (not feasible for sure) to install the Sport package after the fact hence that being mandatory. But once I saw that this [articular one included the Interior Protection Package... I knew I had no choice. I flew 900 miles to pick it up, tacked on an Audi PP Platinum 6yr/80k mi extended warranty, and drove it home.
I am thankful that they don't make an RSQ7 (I guess), as 7 seats was the justification for this kind of spend for me, and otherwise I might have that nagging in the back of my head if I didn't go with the RSQ7 which would certainly be uncomfortable cost territory. It isn't rare having to tote around 4+ kids which was how my choices were narrowed down so much. The RSQ8 is amazing... but only 2 rows. The 2020+ S8 would have also been in contention (after the daddy Doug review the S8 is still a bucketlist car tho). There are the insanely sweet RS6/7s of course, but aside from only 2 rows I didn't have to worry about looking for one of those as even a branded title/stolen one of those is probably out of my budget range :D.
I did drive a 2017 X5 XDrive50i for a week(loaded but no m package) before returning it, it was WAY too big/lumbering feeling. After driving the newer X5 M50i (much better) and even an X5M (rocketship, but too damn stiff for commuting/family trips), nothing was in the goldilocks zone like the SQ7, at least not for me. I have owned a Caddy CTS-V, Merc AMG, BMW, and several others, but never for long before I am back to an Audi.
Anyway, I have already done a few very small mods (S Sport puddle lamps, dynamic hub caps, blend mounted Escort 360C with Escort dashcam, replaced stock sub with Audison APS 8 D) with more parts on the shelf still to install (front & rear Viofo dash cam, JL CLS110RG-W7AE sealed box with JL 1000W amp and LC2i Pro, OEM gloss black rings and badges), and a few things more to research, buy, and install including additional speaker swaps, at least fronts for sure, paint correction and front PPF, and black wrap the remaining exterior silver bits.
As far as the last month with the SQ7... the gas mileage sucks but I love this thing! The elimination of the juke box sucks, and whoever decided that most screens in the external media player don't need a back/up button is an idiot, but otherwise this SUV is amazeballs!
Awesome looking SQ7!!! You are gunna love it!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you! Looking forward to the black rings, badges, and black wraps plus paint correct/ceramic coat plus detailing to take some better pics. I love it so far!
What year ? And what did you snag it for ?
It's a 2021, had 50,800 on the clock when I got it, and I paid the asking price $54,991, about $1k below NADA certified median value (and pretty sure the numbers in that average include those without Sports package). The Monroney window sticker was $105,660, it's inservice date is 12/17/2020. I am curious what MMR is nowadays... but not THAT curious :D. Because I am a masochist, I have kept up my routine of looking (autotempest, carmax, carvana, etc. roughly once a day in addition to email notifications all over the place), and I haven't seen another show up with my parameters yet, so I feel justified so far.
I saw it right when it was listed on their site and didn't even try to negotiate. Even with the softening market, after looking for the past year, I knew that it might be a while before another 1 owner, maintained, clean carfax, CPOed Prestige with the Sport and Luxury packages showed up at that price. I had gone after a couple others in the past 4 months or so, every one of them with one red flag or another, but even then I couldn't find one below $60k, they always got away while I was negotiating. To increase my option pool I was including nonCPO'ed cars (which makes Audi PP WAY more expensive... and even then they will only cover a car with <60k mi), so I am happy with the deal.
Yeah thats a good deal. Im in the same boat and its hard to find the ideal one.
Find most options , no tow hitch. Find right CPO missing luxury package. Its a needle hunt for sure.
Congrats! And really nice car.
Enjoy that V8 growl, beauty!!!
Thank you! When I first got it, and started it up in the garage for the first time... WOW! I had to look underneath to see if the previous owner had done a resonator delete, or maybe installed the sport exhaust or something. NOPE, all looks factory. This is a many thousand dollar Milltek aftermarket sound... not an OEM sound :D.
Congrats!
My wife loves the Q8/SQ8 and I honestly prefer the sleek look of the long SQ7. That 3-row capacity is really what sets it apart.
But appreciation on these cars seem to absolutely massive. I do all my own maintenance on everything I can rebuild just about any motor that I come across, not that I necessarily want to be doing that. Are these vehicles inherently unreliable? Are there years to avoid? I’m looking at this and also a 2020 that has about 114,000 miles on it. Is it unreasonable to expect these 3.0 L turbo charged motor to last 200,000 miles with regular maintenance? I have heard that the 2017 motors burn oil and caused the exhaust valves to burn what are things that I should look out for? I’m used to getting 200k+ out of my cars. Is that possible with these?
i have a 17 q7 with 103k miles.
it's expensive to maintain. Tires are $1500+. a set of rotor and brakes are $1000+ in parts. Hundreds of dollars each for wheel bearings and stuff.
Even if I get the parts aftermarket off FCP euro? The brakes and rotors are that much? Hmm, but I should only need those what, every 50-60k mi? The brakes in less concerned with comparative to the overall reliably of the power train
that's what i did. the front rotor is massive, 375mm, and $300+ each. But the powertrain is fine. There's also transmission and differential fluid change that might cost you thousands if it hasn't been done.
You guys, f this car. I’m going to go get a Lexus GX460
How's the ride quality compared to the q7?
I'm honestly in the same mind set. Just had a baby, one car household, and frequent pediatrician visits doesn't exactly scream Audi dependability..
Unfortunately though Japanese don't necessarily make soft riding vehicles unless we're talking Lexus LS
Dude the luxury model? With the air suspension that’s adjustable on the fly? It’s so comfy! I’ll say this, the q7 drove like it was on rails it was just fun to be in, was high tech to the gills, and was fast. The GX drives like a tank, it’s big and it feels bigs. We paid more than double for the GX that we got that was a 2016, but it will run for the next 30 years, the 4.7 is known to go 500k+ and I never have to worry about doing some pain in the ass piece of maintenance on it, it’s just going to work, every single time I need it to work.
The Audi? I wouldn’t expect to get more than 130-140k out if that thing before it actually explodes, and all the crap I’d have to do to it in between.
I wanted to love the Audi, but it’s impossible, it’d be like falling in love with a stripper. Is she hot? Yes. Is she going to ruin your life? Also yes.
Overall I am VERY happy with the Lexus, I have 0 regrets, for me, it was and is the better decision, it will also hold its value much much better.
...2017 Q7 80,000km the head gasket went - before that it started to "eat" oil, needing constant top ups every 1,000km (right before the head gasket got replaced). The 3.0 V6's are known for these issues..so, mine really fitted the bill perfectly. Apart from that, nothing else to report. She runs super smooth at the moment 🙂
Ooof, that’s seems awfully early 80,000km. What mileage do you have on it now? I need a family car and want something that isn’t going to leave the Mrs stranded you know?
Probably not an Audi then, or anything European
Head gasket failure isn't very common with the EA837 3.0 TFSI
Get a pre purchase inspection and make an informed decision
there is nothing more expensive than a cheap german car
I’ve been looking at SQ5s for the past year or so but finally decided to go with Q7 for towing capacity purposes. We drove 20 hours round trip to get this car and it is fully optioned out with everything imaginable. Extremely happy with my purchase especially coming from a 2007 328xi BMW
As cool as the sq5 is, the q7 is a more practical and comfy car.
No brainer if you’re towing
I agree. I also just enjoy the body design and interior at lot more than the sq5. Which is probably a hot take but🤷🏻♀️
You have good taste, beautiful car!
Thank you! I was pretty set on black with black optics… plus all the other features. All of my cars are black so I have to keep the theme lol
Came from a 08 RAV4 LE. It was like living under a rock for too long. Any tips or tricks you wanna share?
Absolutely beautiful!! They do tend to burn oil in the beginning, so it might call to add a quart or two, especially if you take a road trip. It freaked me out on my first Q7, but apparently this isn’t out of the ordinary. Something to be aware of. Good luck!!
Thx! I’ve definitely seen a lot of complaints about this turn oil issue from this sub. I thought it was only for older models. Or is it really just an ordinary thing even for the latest model?
This is a ‘25? Apparently, they improved the issue, but I’ve already added a quart to the SQ7 a few months after picking up last May. I think it is just the engine design. Might have improved, but still goes through the synthetic faster than most
It’s not just the beginning. My wife’s’19 Q7 has 78k miles and still needs a quart every 2-3 months between services.
Enjoy the ride. What trim level did you get?
You have functional rear fog lights on the Q7, just new to swap out the headlight switch and it'll work. No programming needed. Got mine for $58, likely more in BC/Canada. Comes in handy for lighting my otherwise very dimly lit path backing up on a long driveway.
The other suggestion is get a made for Audi dashcam. Features will vary depending on price but the front camera is very plug and play, looks factory replacing the plastic piece at the underside of the rearview mirror cover.
I looked at the Q7 and SQ5 and ended up with a Black, Black Optics SQ5. It would have been a tough decision if they had an all black Q7 on the lot.
Congratulations, it's beautiful!
Same but went with the all black Q8.
I just put gloss on my q8 and blacked the badges. Its a phenomenal look.
I hope you got the tire package! Every time I did, I was glad and one time I didn’t. I was not glad.
Question on this- is it confined to that specific dealer or ANY dealer or just anywhere?
I bought it mainly for the windscreen protection since it’s a $1200 windshield, but I just realized I bought it from a dealer 90 miles away from me and it may not be usable at my local dealer… or is it?
You bought it from Audi, any Audi dealer should cover it.
They didn’t ask you about that when you bought or leased it? Along with the other upselling things? But this one can pay for itself easily. Ask the dealership
We’re in need of a 3rd row vehicle as our family continues to grow. We’re long time owners of GM and Audi’s both and we’ve narrowed our search down to the Suburban or the SQ7. I’m well aware of the overall differences between the two, but I’m not at all familiar with newer GM gas vehicles like I am with Audi’s. I do nearly all of the maintenance on all of our vehicles myself and have plenty mechanical/automotive background, I’m not worried about cost of maintenance necessarily.
My main question is, what are the “worse case scenario” problems with this generation of Suburban? Specifically the 2020. I’m ONLY looking for a 6.2L, and I’m told the 20’s are the only ones with the 10 speed before the new body style in 21? Do these have air suspension? I know the automatic running boards are kind of shit after a few Midwest winters, and I’m well aware of the DOD/AFM nightmare (that would be tuned out anyway). So what am I looking at in terms of maintaining it long term?
The Audi is probably "nicer" but personally if I had to pick I'd go with the Suburban because GM pushrod V8's are older than dinosaurs and they've got that shit figured out. Just get a proper delete done on the AFM. I would say the 10 speed is alright, it's not the best transmission but it's not the worst either.
And if you get bored seeing as its a L87 you can easily bolt on some go fast parts. But if you do the AFM delete don't just program it out do it properly, You'll need a non AFM cam and lifter set and probably a set of pushrods and a tune.
I'm not an Audi guy so I don't know how much of a pain in the ass the SQ7 is but I've seen some shit on Audi's such as rear timing chains and shit and it's enough to make me say no thanks.
Timing chains are usually when people follow the 10k oil service interval. If you change oil every 5k miles and maintain it, timing chains won’t be an issue. They’re more of a 200k service, but most vehicles will need them replaced around that time. It’s ~$6-7k for timing chain service unless you have you’re own lift.
There's a few Audi models that have issues with timing chains, tensioners and guides, regardless of how often you change the oil. I don't recall which engines off hand because like I stated earlier I'm not an Audi guy.
The Chevy on the other hand you're completely correct as long as you change the oil every 5,000 they're not that much of a concern.
Not to mention there are some nice Supercharger kits for the L87. These Trucks can be a lot of fun.
The transmission really scares me. I’ve not heard good things about the 6 or 8 speeds. If I’m dropping $60K on a used SUV I don’t want to have to spring for a replacement transmission anytime soon.
If you're scared to pay for a transmission on a Chevy you'll be real scared to see the cost of some repairs on an Audi. Every VW tech I've ever met or worked with has not had many good things to say about VW/Audi engines.
I have a 2015 Suburban with 227,000 miles, all original transmission and motor. Only issue has been original alternator, battery, and mass airflow censor. That is the 5.3 and 6 speed
The 6 speeds are actually extremely reliable. All you have to do is turn off the torque converter slip (in HP tuners for example) and it will last as long as the body.
I wouldn't be scared of the 10 speed. Like I said it's not the greatest trans but its not the worst. It was a joint venture between GM and Ford. And from what I've seen Ford has more problems with it than GM.
Ya but we have a 2022 Silverado same engine and tranny pretty much and it’s going great as a daily but if used I would look for a lower mile suburban
Lawd, I know this is a Chevy sub but how is this even a question?
The SQ7 is going to be a way better car to spend time using unless you specifically need a full size bus
Lawd, I know this is
A Chevy sub but how is
This even a question?

I’d go with the suburban. More room, can haul more if you ever need to, usable cargo area behind the third row, and most importantly more reliable than the Audi long term. At the end of the day the suburban is a pushrod v8 truck. As long as you get one that doesn’t have air suspension and you can tune out any of the weird electronic stuff you’ll be far better off imo.
Hello all, I recently made a longer trip (ca. 860km - 535miles) with my Q6 Quattro and thought I'd share my impressions. I made a short ski trip with a colleague. We drove through Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria on the outward trip and through Austria, Germany, France, Luxembourg and Belgium on the return trip (ca. 800km - 500miles).
The Good
Not so good
Well that's it. I only did one longer drive (ca. 275km - 170mi) before where I didn't need to charge (ca. 70% battery drain for that trip). Ski trip was a blast and I'm looking forward to repeating it with my family. Although I might need a roof box then which will severaly impact range.
I have air suspension and have taken it offroad without issue. Here with it raised maximum.
Where is that ? Not too scary off-roading a car that fancy ?
Sedona…nothing too gnarly, but Q6 Air Suspension has offroad mode for a reason!
Excellent recap of pluses & minuses of Q6. Regarding awkward suspension, I have not had that issue; do you have air suspension?
No, I have the S sports Suspension
Interesting thanks for sharing, I have same suspension as you and thought it might suck on a long trip. How did you find the heating in sub zero conditions?
Hallo zusammen,
Hätte also einen abzugeben 😂😂
Only has 31k miles on it, local trade in by a guy who did all his services early and oil changes no later than 5k intervals. I’ve been an Audi fanboy for a long time and this is my first European car!
You’ll love it.
In America, the 2019 Q7 was the last car Audi put the supercharged 3.0 in.
Had a 2019 Q7! Great vehicle initially. Just make sure to keep an eye on its oil consumption and consider having the piston rings inspected regularly, as those have been known to cause issues over time. Again, beautiful vehicle and congrats! Just keeping things honest.
Yup, definitely keeping an eye on that with my Indy shop. I’ve got a mityvac oil extractor to do oil changes with liqui-Molly leichtauf 5w-40 every 5k from Fcp euro and keeping an extra liter in the back in case I need to top off ever
You’re ahead of the ball! Lucas Oil Stabilizer helped as well.
I like how you are showing the interiors and the space it comes with. It’s not just beautiful from the outside..
Audi beats out Mercedes and bmw because of the inside. I agree
In my opinion the 2019MY they all close each other in interior designs. Mercedes is flashiest and most warm, Audi have great integration, fit and finish, tech luxury feeling, BMW is sportiest and good balance between tech and comfort.
Good buy & you purchased something reliable!
When I see brown interior I upvote 👍
You don’t get them on some new models anymore.
Hi everyone im looking to upgrade from a sedan to an suv/wagon type and was really interested in an Audi Q5/Q7 and have read so many mixed reviews and information. Just want some hard honest reviews on these cars.
Do you recommend do you absolutely not recommend please let me know really need some advice on this thankyou!! <3
Edit: should mention i am looking for used cars from the years around 2012 upwards
Q5 is pretty much an SUV A4. Q7 is an SUV A6.
Your experience with Audi will depend almost exclusively on engine you choose. Safest and best bet for either Q5 or Q7 is 3.0 TDI.
Having owned a lot of European cars I’d say Audis are OK, but I wouldn’t pick either Q5 or Q7 over BMW X3 or X5. Quality of materials, design (in many ways) and driving experience feels better on BMW, at least for me.
Compared to a lot of junk (Koreans, Chinese, majority of Japanese) that’s seen on the roads though I’d take Audi in a heartbeat.
Thanks so much! Having owned quite a few euro cars would you say buying a used audi would alter your opinion?
I’ve had a used Audi before. They’re good cars, but sometimes quality is a bit lacking in some places (given price you pay is comparable to BMW or Mercedes or Volvo).
Main issues I’ve had were minor interior issues like small rattles or squeaks which are quite annoying, and small things breaking from time to time (e.g. aircon flap motor- caused the incorrect hot/cold air mixture, cupholders getting “stuck”, etc).
I wouldn’t pick an Audi over BMW or Mercedes simply due to my experience with two other brands being absolutely nearly flawless even though the cars I’ve had with them were approaching 10 years of age.
I’d choose an Audi over something like a Lexus any day of the week though
BMW X3 is better in my experience.
Hello,
Got two kids and looking at a Q7, would love to hear your experiences. Did you buy used or new, what did you look for, what’s been good, what’s not been so good, and anything else worth sharing?
Thanks, Jeff
we have been using q7 for the last 4 years with kids. It's been great for dropoffs, road trips, you name it. Cargo space is amazing, you can fit in at least 2 Woom bikes with space left under them. There are no major issues to talk about. It's a good family car with luxury!
The cabin insulation is S tier. Nice build quality and it can feel very luxurious if you go for the Luxury package. Go for at least the 3.0T because the base 2.0T would be too underpowered.
Bought a used 2018 Q7 Premium Plus in 2019. Sold it for a Tahoe in March because the AC went out for the third time, and I thought I’d like the extra room for the kids.
Ended up trading it in for a 2023 Q7 Prestige in July because I missed my Audi so much. Yes, I lost my ass. I only regret it when I’m not driving.
audi q7 long term review
Key Considerations for a Long-Term Review of the Audi Q7
