TL;DR
Proximity and Locations
When looking for an Airbnb near Coachella, the towns of Indio, La Quinta, and Indian Wells are highly recommended due to their proximity to the festival grounds [1:1]. These areas provide convenient access to the festival, and some locations even offer the possibility of walking to the event. However, properties within walking distance tend to be more expensive
[4:4].
Booking Strategy
It's advisable to book your accommodation well in advance, as options close to the festival fill up quickly. Opting for a superhost can reduce the risk of last-minute cancellations, which are common during the festival season [1:3]
[1:7]. Some users suggest booking closer to the festival date when prices may drop due to unbooked properties
[3:1].
Transportation Considerations
While some attendees prefer accommodations within walking distance, others find biking or driving to be viable alternatives. Biking from nearby areas like La Quinta has been a popular choice, providing flexibility and avoiding traffic congestion [5:4]
[5:6]. Driving is also an option, though it requires dealing with potentially heavy traffic and finding parking
[5:5].
Cost and Sharing Options
The cost of Airbnbs during Coachella can vary significantly. Some users have reported paying around $500 per person for shared accommodations [2:3], while others have found single-bedroom options for $1300
[2:4]. Sharing a larger property with a group can help reduce costs
[1:1], and platforms like http://Booking.com may offer additional options
[3:2].
Alternative Accommodations
For those on a budget or seeking a different experience, camping at Coachella is an alternative. It offers the convenience of being on-site, eliminating the need for transportation to and from the festival each day [4:2]
[4:6]. However, camping requires preparation and may not be suitable for everyone.
What would be a reasonable area for airbnbs close to Coachella
All the towns nearby are expensive (la quinta, indio, indian wells, palm desert) it really depends on how nice the airbnb is.
Is it smart to book this far out? I'm scared they will cancel getting closer to Coachella next year.
I don't think it really matters. I booked my Airbnb around November last year and it was fine. Go with a superhost (who can lose their status if they cancel) and make sure Coachella is already priced in (if it's the same rate they charge as a non-Coachella weekend, that's a red flag). If you see a place you like that works for your crew, then I'd be comfortable booking now...but you also don't need to rush.
They cancel a ton. You can try, but expect cancellations like 75% of the time if its a good deal.
Yeah that’s how I feel. But I just wanna see price range & how far I should look
I have an Airbnb that is literally walking distance from the festival grounds. Gated community across the street. PM if you’d like to check it out and I can send you the link!
Hey dm me
messaged you
Hi am interested for W1 can you send me the link
I have stayed at Rancho La Quinta and more recently PGA West the last three years and recommend those for easy access.
PGA West has a rear exit gate that puts you out on Madison, it’s an easy straight shot in/out of lot 2A
Reasonable would be anywhere near the shuttle stops as far from the festival as Palm Desert. Personally prefer Indio and La Quinta if you have enough people to reduce the costs of those homes. Indian Wells has some decent spots as well.
I feel any farther (rancho mirage, cathedral city, and palm springs), while having cheaper homes, requires like an hour-ish travel time to the fields.
staying in yucca valley far as fuck but it’ll be worth it
you shouldve looked in thousand palms
I’ve never been as well but a friend of mine has a few times and they were saying that airbnbs were like 500/person and that was a house shared with 12 others
I just paid 1300 for a one bed airbnb
Omg 💀. For this April?
Camping, it’s my second year going and camping is affordable and the best option since I live in socal
must be nice, I live on the east coast and i’m going alone so I don’t have that option
There’s a thread on here usually for people going solo !
Long story short: I had a BEAUTIFUL 8 person house booked on Airbnb and my entire group bailed on me and now it’s just me and my boyfriend!! Obviously I canceled the house and now I’m stressing because we’re a month out from Coachella. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look for a place that isn’t 1k a night for 2 people? Or is it too late for that now? 😭
Check out Booking Palm Springs. It’s like 900 for the weekend. I just booked this for myself because everyone bailed on me too. Smh.
Having trouble finding! Are you talking about Booking.com? Would you mind sending the link :)
Oh, just put Palm Springs on Booking. Com. I hope there’s still something left
I have a room available in our airbnb with a queen size bed for $365 per person for April 18-21. It's also just me and my boyfriend. DM me if you're interested.
Yo that’s a solid deal if the person gets a whole room to his/herself 🤙🏽
DM’d you!
I got a hotel yesterday for the 18th-21st at Indian wells resort for $1300 taxes included.
Lifesaver!!
Agreed! Using an app like Alertstays might help you track down some last-minute cancellations. Might as well start tracking what's available to see if you can get a good deal.
If you are brave you can grab airbnbs week of the festival. Those that priced too high usually drop their prices to book those dates, or last minute cancelations
I was able to do this last year... $850 total for 4 nights!
Update I found a place! Thanks for all the help everyone 🫶🫶
What are the best towns, cities, hotels, Airbnb’s to stay at when Coachella is back on? Does walking distance make a big difference or are Ubers and Lyfts fairly reliable?
Personally, I recommend camping. However, camping isn’t for everyone.
The biggest drawback to camping is that it is camping. If you don’t like camping, you probably won’t like camping at Coachella. If you don’t mind being a sweaty dusty mess by 3p when you showered at 10a then you’ll do alright. The more effort and planning you put into camping the better your experience will be. Having a good camp setup takes a couple weeks of prep if you’re starting from scratch. Camping is also better the bigger your group is. You’ll want a camping spot for every 2 people or so, but the bigger the better. Benefits of camping are that you are so close to the festival you can be much more carefree. Don’t pay for as much beer, just pound a few when you walk back to camp to change.
Staying offsite is still plenty fun. You still get access to all of the campgrounds and activities. Just be prepared for a few things. Number one is cost, staying offsite is significantly more expensive (camping gear can be expensive, too, though). I’d definitely recommend reserving a locker if you are going to be staying off site. They increased the capacity of the festival recently, and the day parking lots that are closest to the festival hit capacity before noon usually. They have other off site lots that you can park at and take a free shuttle the rest of the way. Leaving at night can be a nightmare, and I’ve heard of people saying it can take hours if you leave after the headliners finish. Getting to the festival also turns into a nightmare if you’re not early. Staying on a bed and having a personal shower are probably priceless to some people. As others have said, rideshare services are hell and there is a good chance your phone will die before the night is over.
Overall my advice is go to where your vibes will be best. If you’re not a camping person, don’t force it and try to be. If you’d be happy in a hotel room or an airbnb, do it and have a blast. Both options require a bit of planning and execution to make things significantly better and more fun.
I’ve camped for 9 years. While it would be nice to have a house and a pool, being able to walk 15-20 min back to the campsite at the end of the night rather than wait for an Uber and have to be stuck in traffic is always my deciding factor.
I have never been stuck in traffic while driving to/from coachella
Camp
Airbnb that’s walking distance. Make sure it’s actually walking distance! Some streets are blocked off to pedestrians. This will be very expensive.
Camp at that one RV resort that has a shuttle.
Airbnb or hotel near a shuttle stop.
Don’t Uber/Lyft!
in 2016 i spent some time investigating finding walking distance options (i switched weekends away from my normal camping crew because a friend was getting married. i hooked up with a new crew, and later our crews merged, but for a while i wasn't sure it would pan out).
the walking traffic restrictions really get in the way of that working well.
camping on site is the best
First, I’d recommend searching the subreddit. Tons of great tips about this from previous years.
Generally, I wouldn’t expect to walk. I tried that my first year. Everything is MUCH further than you think since people are routed to specific exits. Plus you’ve likely been on your feet for 12 hours, jumped around, and walked miles without realizing it.
I’ve personally found a lot of success with Airbnb’s in La Quinta (south of the grounds). Most traffic heads north to Palm Springs so it is the least painful / least time consuming way to get home after a long day.
I also tend to drive in each day (vs Uber which is a shit show). Get in early each day and parking is a breeze; plus exploring the grounds and new artists is one of the best parts). I also pick my closing artists. I’m not there for headliners so I tend to dip out around that time unless I have to stay for someone really special. I’m usually out of the parking lot in 10 min.
Everyone has their own approach though so I definitely recommend checking old posts with a similar question!
I get out of the parking lot within 2 minutes, and I stay for headliners, so YMMV
> Plus you’ve likely been on your feet for 12 hours, jumped around, and walked miles without realizing it.
my phone usually records on the order of 30,000 steps a day. This is while camping.
Do lab to outdoor theatre is half a mile. the sahara is even further.
you rack up a lot of miles just walking around.
Just booked an Airbnb 2.2 miles from the festival grounds (in the non-gated communities) , and we had a house in the same neighborhood last year.
Day one we waited out the Uber crowd at campgrounds. We were able to have one of those sketchy non-app users waiting in the ride share lot drive us out right away around 2AM.
Day two we tried to leave a little early to beat the crowds, but was still smacked with a wall of zombie Uber riders waiting for rides. So we ended up just walking the whole way back since another housemate did it Day One and said it “wasn’t that bad”
While it’s nice to not have to deal with post-show Uber experience, or leave early to catch “good” shuttles… that walk just from entrance to ride share is THE WORST.
So… who else is making a 3+ mile walk home?!
Loved camping for the last 10 chellas because of the easy walk back with no stress needing a shuttle or Uber. Told myself I’d get a house with friends for Frank’s return. It looks to be 2 miles from the polo grounds. Hoping the walk at night isn’t bad at all.
Just past it at Country Club Dr. We were a block from the entrance to the community, nice little condo enough to fit three couples.
We have a place in La quinta and all 8 of us bike every year! People can leave whenever they want and it’s a 30 min bike. Can be dark but with headlamps or flashlights it’s fine. By the time we are home my legs feel great and feet don’t hurt anymore!
I can’t speak on walking but I can speak about driving to the fest. Last year I stayed in an Airbnb pretty close and our group had one person drive each night. It worked out really well. I’d totally recommend it. Traffic wasn’t that bad and it made getting in and out super easy.
However, I will say that the other drivers drove really dangerously. Like, they were obviously drunk/on drugs and driving extremely aggressively. There was one vehicle that was tailgating us, swerving all over the road, getting in front of us and brake checking, etc, for really no reason. There were multiple near accidents.
Still though, if you have someone in your group who doesn’t mind being sober, driving (not even with preferred parking) was a great experience. Just be a very cautious driver.
My group bikes every year and it’s awesome!! Couldn’t recommend enough. We used to do a 3 mile walk home and once we started biking it was a total game changer. Plus you can bike through campgrounds all the way up to the entrance.
What do you guys use to keep the bikes locked up all day? When i went last year i saw bikes locked up before the security but I wasn’t sure if I’d be ok with leaving a bike there all day
Thanks! Any rental recs? We’re northeast of the venue
Last year we did a house in the gated community immediately to the north east of the fields. Was about 1.5miles (40minutes) gate to gate. I thought it was fine but the ladies in the group hated the walk. Going solo so definitely camping this time 😁
Damn, 1.5 miles is about as good as it gets. That's a drop in the bucket compared to how much we walk every day while we're at the fest.
It’s a bit hard to remember since it’s been so long, but if I remember correctly we arrived at approximately 2-3:30PM every day. We had good luck parking in lot 2A (the northwest corner of the map along avenue 50 and Madison). We had friends who arrived closer to 4:30-5 and they were stuck in traffic for a few hours.
last year when we left before the weeknd, we drove right out, not a car in sight.
on the days where we left after the headliners - billie and harry - we were sitting stopped for 3 hours.
if the headliner isn't worth it to you, leave early.
My group biked in 2015 and 2016 when we stayed in La Quinta, probably about 4ish miles away. It’s very dark out there and even with bike lights and headlamps, was difficult to see. I didn’t mind it but one of crew hit a bump at some point and just ate it. We didn’t do bikes again. Lol
Hi all. This was my first Coachella and I had such a good time so I want to go again next year.
I booked my accommodations in February this year and it felt too late. Had to stay in Palm Springs which wasn’t terrible but I would prefer to stay closer next time.
I’m seeing Airbnbs in La Quinta and surrounding areas for somewhat reasonable prices right now.
Around what time of year do you all normally book accommodations? Has anyone experienced a host cancelling when they realized they could’ve charged more?
I’m only looking at places with free cancellation up until April 2026.
I'd think doing it now would be better than waiting for any info about Coachella 2026 to drop! I just reserved a hotel room in Palm Springs for April 9-13 (fingers crossed 4/10-4/12 will be the weekend 1 days next year) just a few days ago when it was only a total of $832, I checked back today and that same hotel for that same weekend is already priced at $2.1K which is a crazy price jump. I'm assuming prices of hotels and airbnbs will just keep getting more expensive after 2026 dates and passes get posted.
Next year will be my first Coachella, I'm speaking it into existence hahaha.
I booked my Airbnb for 2025 in April 2024. The host didn’t cancel on me and it was a great price. I’ll be booking the same place already for next year
Same!! This is THE WAY. Feels amazing to have that anxiety of finding a reasonable place lifted and done.
I've already booked (at least placed a placeholder) mine :)
yes because they can cancel
Not insane. If you check both AirBnB/VRBO and ignore all of the "too good to be true" prices, you can find some gems. We always book out very early with reliable hosts and have never had an issue.
I already booked our VRBO in the Indian Palms neighborhood for 2026.
It’s four of us going and our Airbnb in Palm Desert has room for 2 or possibly 3 more people. If anyone is still looking for accommodations and wants to share our Airbnb, hit me up! GIRLS ONLY please! It’s $350 per person for both nights. Feel free to message me
Do you only have the Airbnb for two nights?? Might I suggest extending your stay for one more evening so you can get rest after the last night and/or don’t feel rushed leaving before the festival. Doing all the cleanup the house requires and packing my things between Saturday-Sunday festival days sounds like actual hell to me. Especially on little to no sleep. Good luck!
Yea, We are only staying until Sunday morning because my group and I are not going to the festival Sunday. There’s no need for us to stay an extra night.

Goodluck!
Recommend to possibly sell your tickets for Sunday
Yes that’s the plan! :)
This will be my first time at Coachella and I’m in charge of booking an Airbnb for my group.
We have not yet gotten our tickets (weekend 1) but I’ve heard from veterans that it’s wise to book an Airbnb even before the main sale. Can someone confirm? Also any tips are appreciated!
Look near the golf courses slightly south of the festival, stayed there last year and it was perfect for about 10 of us in a 4 bedroom.. pool/spa/guest house.. it’s called PGA West
Thanks I’ll take a look! Did you have any problems with that location (noise complaints, strictness, etc) or is it generally accepted that the weekend is a party for those in the community?
We were pretty loud never had issues..
The gate sometimes can give you trouble. Limit the cars you bring if possible.. other than that we had no issue
It's already slim pickings unless your group is fine paying high prices. Most Airbnb hosts raise prices during the two weekends of Coachella since they know there's a demand.
Note: make sure to check the reviews of places you find on Airbnb, there can be some sketchy listings on there. Luckily my group has never had a problem but I've heard horror stories of hosts canceling on people last minute.
thanks for the heads up - my group is pretty flexible with pricing and I waited until now since I wanted to get the most people possible (meaning likely a larger, but cheaper per person place)
We paid $550+ across 8 people for a 4 bedroom, 2 bath with a pool and hot tub.
We were about a 15 min bike ride from the festival to the security gates(ride thru camping/yellow path). Bikes were basically $100 each for the weekend.

Honestly though, the best reservations get booked well before the lineup. I book after presale and still have to hunt for something good.
Last year
NOW. TODAY.
I decided to go to Coachella this year a few days before the tickets went on sale. Naturally, there was essentially nowhere to stay. The only thing that my friend and I were able to get was an Airbnb that is an hour and a half away. I genuinely couldn’t find any other option, now that the date is coming up, I have read a few posts of people saying absolutely do not stay that far away and I’m panicking will it really be that bad? It’s too late for me to do anything different I can’t afford $5000 a night for a hotel or Airbnb that is close to Indio. (I am going to weekend 2)
2BR for $1800 for 4 nights for Wk 2

do y’all have extra room for another person? 🫣
Trust me you don’t want to be here. There was a dog barking and psycho bitches yelling all night long last night
Ima looking to stay Saturday night in case anyone has an extra spot in your hotel, will pay my fair share of course!
Check out my recent comment!
Yea originally my first hotel I booked was 2 1/2 hours away but my friend tried to find one closer so we wouldn’t struggle so we are now in palm spring thankfully
Hey
I’m going to Coachella 2020, and as I was looking at accommodations Airbnb is too expensive. Anybody have any ideas on where I could stay? I’ll be going in a group of 10-15 people and would like to keep it under $250 per person. My group is not open to tenting. Any thoughts/ideas?
Airbnb’s and hotels all book up by around August of the previous year. Previous years when I have planned for those, I would book in June, right around presale. This year I didn’t decide on going until general sale a couple days ago and if your deciding that late/looking for places this late, the best option is to camp without paying $1000/night for a place tbh.
FYI, I got a camping pass this year as back up since pretty easy to sell, I usually stay with a friend that lives down there.. but I think there were a bunch of hotel cancels last year w2 leading up since I found some for the weekend for about $5-600. Right now it’s $1,000+ it seems which = hell no haha a lot of hotels allow cancel right up to booking, so I would check week or so before if you’re set on booking one in any way :-)
Camping is really the only option in your budget. You can try looking further out, but you’re going to be at least an hour away, if not more.
Remember there’s traffic getting out each night. So an hour drive could easily turn into 2+. The festival doesn’t end until 1am, so if you stay until the end of the headliner you’re not getting back until at least 3:30am. And someone needs to stay sober to drive.
Camping would 100% be the cheapest thing.
Booking a group that big is going to be very difficult in that price point now that the lineup is dropped.
Most hotels in the surrounding area will be at $300-400 a night at this point.
Just camp. It’s a ton of fun. It’s like a giant party before the fest opens.
You mean not open to camping?
Yeah
