TL;DR Consider using shuttle services for convenience, or hire a private driver for flexibility. Driving yourself is an option but may involve dealing with traffic and parking logistics.
Driving Yourself
Driving to Coachella can be straightforward if you are comfortable with the route and traffic conditions. From San Diego, the suggested route involves taking the 15N to 215N to 60E and continuing along the 10 [1:1]. However, traffic can be a significant issue, especially during festival days
[1:1]. Some attendees choose to drive each day, returning home after the festival
[1:5], though this might not be feasible for everyone due to fatigue and travel time
[1:6].
Shuttle Services
Shuttle services are a popular option for many festival-goers due to their convenience and ease of use. The Coachella LAX shuttle service is available for those flying into Los Angeles [2:1]. Shuttles have dedicated lanes that bypass regular traffic, making them potentially faster than personal vehicles
[4:5]. Additionally, shuttle passes often drop attendees closer to the festival entrance, reducing walking distance compared to parking
[5:1].
Private Drivers
Hiring a private driver can offer more flexibility in terms of pick-up and drop-off times. Some users have found success by negotiating directly with Uber drivers to serve as private drivers for the weekend [3:3]. Rates can vary, with some paying around $100-$125 per person for the weekend
[3:1]
[3:2]. While this method can cut out the middleman fees associated with ride-sharing apps, it does come with risks, such as lack of liability insurance
[3:5].
Comparing Shuttle vs. Private Driver
The choice between shuttle services and private drivers depends on personal preferences and logistical considerations. Shuttles provide structured schedules and dedicated lanes, while private drivers offer personalized service and potentially quicker access depending on traffic [4:1]
[4:5]. If you are located near a shuttle stop, the shuttle might be more convenient
[4:4]. Conversely, a local driver from Indio might know shortcuts and less congested routes
[4:6].

I was going to drive each day and just come home. I’ve done crazier driving excursions haha
I’m sorry, drive back to San Diego everyday?
Hahaha north county San Diego but yeah, I was only going to be going specifically for a few artists so it wasn’t going to be 10 hour days inside the festival and coming home after. Unfortunately for me, I just couldn’t figure out a solid plan so I passed on buying tickets so I don’t have to worry about it now but it was only a 2 hour drive to get there and I’ve sat through worse going to Disneyland or LA so I figured I could do it if I needed to
Just drive
^ we drove from NorCal lol San Diego would be cake
It’s only a couple hour drive, you’ll be ok, I promise!
I'd prob take the 15N to 215N to 60E then continue along the 10
Your problem will be traffic tho 😅
Edit: sorry, I misread.
Are you camping or no?
If you're not camping I'd suggest a bus to Palm springs or something
I'm from Montreal and I'm just looking for someone to help give a ride to coachella I'll drop by Lax Airport a full day b4 the event then the 26 to go back home
Shuttle bus
Coachella LAX shuttle on the way out https://www.valleymusictravel.com/events/coachella/shuttles/
Tuesday on the way back you can try the ride share thread in the side bar, use greyhound (which drops you off in downtown LA so you would need to Uber to LAX) or United have a 6am-ish flight to LAX.
This year was my group’s 2nd Coachella. The first year we did uber, this year we did shuttles. Both methods have their flaws so I’m looking into hiring a private driver next year to take us to and from the fest.
I’m curious what everyone’s experience has been doing this? How much you’ve paid, and where to find non-scammy drivers? Not trying to pay an insane amount but obviously willing to spend more than what we would for shuttles.
There are only 4 of us so a regular car or suv will do. And we stay in Palm Springs or closer!
Thanks for any insight :)
Paid $100 per person the whole weekend. Covered rides there and back. So much better than dealing with the shuttle.
We found our guy through a friend who had used him previous years.
What I've ended up doing is asking my Uber on Friday if he's down to be our driver for the weekend. This year we paid $90 per day divided by 4 people
This is smart!! But also seems risky what if they say no thanks 😂
They will say hell yeah because with uber they get half the pay. The only problem is there is no liability insurance meaning Uber protects you if something happens. If you use a business that actually has drivers they also have insurance. Cutting the middle man has its risks and rewards
This is the way. That way you get the “safe” feeling because they already drive for uber but don’t pay that extra fee. Cut out the middle app
Cut out the needless rent seeking middleman?????
3 years ago we met an uber driver on day 1, and she has been our driver ever since. we pay her 200 for the weekend. last year she even came across a sunday wristband and partied with us.
This year Friday W2, it was a mess and took her longer than usual to pick us up, which wasnt her fault. But while we were waiting, we kept hearing the private drivers trying to offer people rides. They wanted to charge us 300 for a 4 mile trip. another driver kept insisting other groups and from originally wanting 250$ for the ride, they ended up settling for 70$.
Thinking about doing the same next year!
Paid $125/person for the weekend. We found ours through uber on Thursday and he turned out to have a whole business. CoachellaShuttles on insta, Marcus was great and has a whole system of drivers. We had the same driver all weekend and were able to say when we wanted to be dropped off and picked up at any time.
Which is better shuttle pass or personal driver?!!? i’m torn. I’m located on a shuttle bus stop but heard a driver can be more beneficial. SOS
The shuttle is basically your private driver picking you up anytime and taking you back anytime
the shuttle pass will be just as good.
is the driver a local from indio?
yeah
I would go with driver... probably knows the ins and outs
Shuttles get their own lane and a driver would be stuck with normal traffic if I am not mistaken rIght?
Take the shuttle going in and driver going out.
Any opinions ( based on experience please) on shuttle passes vs driving self? I went to Coachella a couple of years ago and took the shuttles but thinking about driving and getting a parking pass instead. What do you have to offer to this decision? TIA
The shuttle service is just so easy and convenient. Personally, I’d go the shuttle route.
drive to a shuttle spot and take the shuttle to the festival. shuttle pass gets you the closest to festival entrance. you will actually want to cut your legs off walking to and from the car every single day while passing the people in the shuttle line. it’s also a great place to meet new people as you wait for the bus :)
Weekend 1 first time attenders with a house in Palm Desert area looking for some recommendations on best way to get to and from the event.
Get a shuttle pass or plan on ubering in early
Shuttle- but be aware that there is often a line to get on the shuttle and the ride itself takes about 45 mins
I got two shuttle passes you can have for exactly one beer each.
This is the price range i was hoping i'd get
I’ve found teleportation to be the most convenient.
Does happen after 1 tab or 2?
At the end of the night Ubers are going to be super expensive, and there’s going to be long lines. Last year people were waiting up to 3 hours.
If you drive you’ll have to make sure you have a DD
If it were me I’d shuttle.
Thank you!
Anyone have recent experience with how reliable or quick the shuttles to and from the venue are? or the viability of ubering, or traffic, in the last 2 - 3 years? I've read a thread from 2018 but I want to know if it's changed at all or gotten any better?
The shuttles are really good. They leave frequently, bathrooms, drop you off closer to the fest than you can get to in an Uber, and have some dedicated traffic lanes.
Worth it. Pregame on the shuttle on the way to the fields, sleep on the way back to your hotel. Cheaper than paying for ride-shares for the whole weekend.
And more convenient -- so close to the entrance and exit. While boarding your shuttle, you can see the Uber death march passing by you on the right side of the picket fence with another mile or so to go before they get to the dusty purgatory of "never getting out of this lot".
That dusty lot is the 7th layer of hell. Avoid at all costs.
Yes, in my opinion they are The Way if your place is within a 20 minute walk of a stop. Waiting for an uber is a total crapshoot and could take 20 minutes or 2 hours, shuttles are dependable, fast, and you might make friends.
reliable. convenient. worth it
The shuttles are awesome. My two biggest complaints with the shuttles are they no longer get you in at gates (they don’t leave for the festival from the shuttle stops until noon now), and the choke point leaving each night crossing the street.
Outside of those issues they’re awesome. The staff are always friendly, the shuttles are generally reliable, and the waits at the end of the night have gone down considerably.
I’ve never done a ride share out of the festival but I’ve heard nothing but horror stories.
Hey all! I’m going to Coachella next weekend and have the shuttle passes! I do NOT WANT to deal with traffic and driving and parking!! I would like someone’s experience as far as the shuttles go. Was it a smooth ride and a smooth entrance into the festival?? Just like to know what to expect for next weekend!!! Thank you so much!!
We drove before last year and it was miserable. So yes 💯 it's the greatest hack we did last year. we stay at the hotels that have the shuttle direct but you can just Uber to those hotels there's a line at peak times to get on but it's quick in and out.
took the shuttle today there and back and it was incredible! super easy experience no wait in either direction
what time did u leave to coachella??
12:30am first night, 1:00pm second, and 10:30pm third. First night was the quickest
Make sure to leave early before the headliner ends.. we left after the headliner and waited 1-2 hours to get on the shuttle and the shuttle we got on, we had to stand as they were trying to cram as many people as possible, the line was still very long at 2am. My friends got back to the hotel at 4am, I got lucky and got in at 3am.
Shuttles are the GOAT hack. They get a dedicated exit back onto the road. They are easily the fastest way to get out of the festival.
I’m a local and have been to many Coachella’s- the shuttle is the way to go! Uber lines are horrible leaving. Take the shuttle.
Forgot to get the shuttle pass this year (big mistake, I know 😭) and had to do rideshare…which we walked a few blocks outside of the ride share lot which okay it’s fine, but then our Uber decided to make an illegal U turn and got hit by another car and his driving was just a mess and it was a bit stressful and scary. Any advice for other options or how to best get out is appreciated 🥹
I have Sunday shuttle passes (2x) for $50 :)
Hey I’ve DM you.
You can still get a shuttle pass from the website and pick them up from will call.
THANK YOU 🙏🏾 they were showing up as sold out Thursday and I was able to buy them now
My friend has an extra! DM!
There was zero traffic on the highway driving to Coachella and I thought we were making great time. Now we’ve been waiting in shuttle traffic for 40 minutes waiting to turn into the fest.
What the hell is going on with shuttles? Getting in and out has been miserable.
same! i’m on the indian wells shuttle and we’ve been stuck in traffic a block away for an hour while other cars pass
We were at the end of the line of shuttles driving in (from Indian Wells) and our driver is now in a different lane, speeding past other shuttles! There might be a solution happening rn.
Really! Which way did you come from? We’re getting about ready to leave. I hear it’s cause the traffic directors haven’t given priority to the shuttles.
Horrible this year. How did they manage to make it so much worse than previous years?
Omg. Right?! I’m taking the shuttle from Indian Wells Tennis Garden… I already missed T-Pain’s set. I’m sooo bummed!
