What Redditors are Saying

Best Armor in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

TL;DR

  • Solitude Armor and Black Knife Set are highly recommended for their balance of stealth, poise, and aesthetics [4:1].
  • Bull Goat Armor offers the highest physical resistance but is very heavy [3:2].
  • Radahn's Lion Armor Set is a great all-rounder for most of the game [3:2].

Fashion vs. Function

In Elden Ring, armor selection often balances between fashion and function. Many players emphasize that armor should be chosen based on personal aesthetic preferences rather than purely on stats [1:1], [1:4]. However, for those who prioritize stats, the Bull Goat Armor Set is noted for its high physical resistances, making it ideal for tank builds [3:2].

Armor Sets with High Poise and Protection

The Solitude Armor, introduced in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, is praised for its excellent balance of protection and poise while maintaining a relatively low weight [4:1], [4:3]. The Black Knife Set is another favorite due to its silent movement and decent poise, making it suitable for stealthy approaches [2:6], [4:1].

Endgame and Heavy Armor Options

For endgame or heavy armor enthusiasts, the Veteran’s Armor Set and Tree Sentinel Armor Set offer substantial protection, though they require significant Endurance investment to avoid being over-encumbered [2:1], [3:2]. The Radahn’s Lion Armor Set is also a solid choice, providing robust defense without excessively hindering mobility [3:2].

Early Game Recommendations

For players in the early stages of the game, the Banished Knight Set can be farmed early on and provides good protection [5:5]. The Carian Knight Set is another viable option depending on your endurance and weight capacity [5:10].

Efficiency and Optimization

When optimizing armor for efficiency, consider the total armor value relative to weight. Some players recommend aiming for at least 51 poise to withstand lighter hits in PvE [4:5], [4:6]. Additionally, using talismans like the Great Jar Talisman can help manage equip load [2:3].

Ultimately, the best armor set will depend on your specific build, playstyle, and aesthetic preferences. Consider experimenting with different combinations to find what suits you best.

I’ve been playing for a little bit and I can seem to find any armor with better stats than the Banished Knight Armor set. Does anyone know of any sets that might be better?

In souls games the stats of the armor pretty much don't matter its always been about what looks "best/coolest/sexiest/weirdest" to you.

In DS3 I found a pretty cute and nice looking "Dark Witch" fashion that made use of pieces from vastly different sets (slave knight legs, black leather body armor, Karlahs gloves, and a witchy looking hat)

In this game I'm rocking Varres Set, because it goes with my bleed/blood/dragon incantation sort of cultist build I'm rocking

What is the best armor set in Elden Ring? A simple statistical analysis!

Posted by AphoticFlash · in r/Eldenring · 2 years ago

What is the best armor set in Elden Ring? A seemingly simple question, but not frequently explored since most build discussion centers around weapons, spells, and talismans, with armor mostly as an afterthought or whatever fits within your weight budget. This post will attempt to answer that question, and provide some recommendations for which armor sets to run.

All armor set values from: https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Armor+Sets+Comparison+Table

All equip load values from: https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Endurance

Methodology

For this analysis, I considered full armor sets broken down into the following weight buckets:

  • Very Light - armor set weight of 15 and below, base 8 Endurance with a heavy non-Colossal weight (<= 15 weight) weapon
  • Light - armor set weight of 15 to 23, base 8 Endurance with a light (<= 6 weight) weapon
  • Medium - armor set weight of 23 to 35, up to 25 Endurance with a heavy non-Colossal weight (<= 15 weight) weapon
  • Heavy -armor set weight of 35 and above, higher than 25 points of Endurance with any weapon

All categories include <70% equip load to maintain medium roll, and 4 talismans at 0.5 weight each. You can also use equip load increasing talismans such as Erdtree Favor and Jar Talisman to stretch these weight categories. To use a Colossal weapon at base 8 Endurance, you'd basically have to use incomplete armor sets, or just go completely without armor.

To evaluate armor sets against each other, I developed a formula using the 13 armor stats (Physical, Strike, Slash, Pierce, Magic, Fire, Lightning, Holy, Immunity, Robustness, Focus, Vitality, Poise), normalized in each category to account for the different scales so that each stat is on an equal playing field, and given different weights to account for my perceived importance in each stat, being:

  • 20% for Standard Physical
  • 10% each for Strike, Slash, Pierce for 30% total
  • 7.5% each for Magic, Fire, Lightning, Holy for 30% total
  • 1.25% each for Immunity, Robustness, Focus, Vitality for 5% total
  • 15% for Poise

I will give at least two recommendations in each weight bucket, one for highest resilience within the bucket, and (more interestingly) one for highest resilience taking weight efficiency into account. As expected, the higher the weight category, the lower the efficiency as you sacrifice weight for more stats. Onto the armor recommendations!

Very Light (15 and below)

https://imgur.com/a/qacK5nW

Starting off with the lightest category, my recommendations for Very Light armor sets are:

  • Lusat's Set for highest overall stats, with a surprisingly high Physical stat and very high Elemental damage resists across the board
  • Godskin Noble Set for highest stats taking efficiency into account, being almost as strong as Lusat's Set, but 2 weight lighter in a class where every point counts
  • Guilty Set for the highest efficiency across all armor sets, although it's only a 3-piece. 11.9 resists for 6.6 weight is absurd!

Light (15 to 23)

https://imgur.com/a/ANWwdfZ

In this next category of Light armor sets, I have one clear strongest recommendation:

  • Ronin's Set has both the highest overall stats, and also highest resilience with high efficiency, with especially high Elemental resists
  • Raya Lucarian Foot Soldier Set is also very solid
  • Rotten Duelist Set if you need something on the lightest end of this weight spectrum

Medium (23 to 35)

https://imgur.com/a/Nube3Kw

Next up, my recommendations for Medium armor sets are:

  • Blaidd's Set for highest overall stats, but relatively poor efficiency. High resists across the board for this category
  • Gelmir Knight Set for high stats and high-ish efficiency, or any of the similar -XXXXX- Knight Sets
  • Knight Set for average resilience and slightly higher efficiency

Heavy (35 and above)

https://imgur.com/a/3lsQeGt

Lastly, recommendations for the no-limits Heavy armor sets are:

  • Bull-Goat Set for overall highest stats in the game for any armor set, but also the highest weight and the lowest efficiency
  • Crucible Axe/Tree Set for highest efficiency in this category, with Tree being ever so slightly better, but essentially the same

Honestly, anything except for the Royal Knight Set works in this weight category, and it'll all depend on how much Endurance you're willing to spend.

Conclusion & Caveats

There are a few important caveats to call out:

  • First and foremost, this data does not take into account passive effects that armors may have, which could completely change the evaluation of what armor set is "best", and there is no good way to fairly compare across different builds
  • This evaluates armor sets on an aggregate basis, using my own judgement for which resist types are most important. Different scenarios may call for different armor types, and this only seeks to provide general game recommendations
  • I evaluated armors only in their complete sets as taken from the Wiki, which brings issues: 1) Not every component of the set is equally as efficient, so mixes of different sets will probably be better, and 2) Not all armor sets have 4 pieces. If there is enough interest, I could repeat this analysis for all individual components instead of complete armor sets
  • This does not take into account how easy each set is to acquire; some sets may not be available until very late in the game, or requires potentially grinding to farm the entire set, while others are early and easy
  • Lastly (and maybe most importantly), this does not take into account fashion! Ronin's Set vs Godskin Noble Set for example...

I hope you found this helpful in some way! What are your favorite armor sets in Elden Ring? Discuss below!

Edit: I realized that ~20 armor sets had corrupted values from Fextralife for some reason, so they're not included in these images...I've added them to my own spreadsheet but have not updated the contents of this post, so if you'd like the complete list, let me know.

Tree sentinel armor as of current patch 1.08. There simplified it for the scrollers.

AphoticFlash · OP · 2 years ago

The Heavy armor category requires a significant chunk of Endurance investment. The Tree Sentinel Set weighs 45 on its own and would require at least 42 Endurance for a medium roll with a typical loadout. The armor isn't bad by any means, but I'd be hard pressed to argue that 42 Endurance is worth it when you could run something lighter like the Crucible Tree Set for much less runes investment

If you really want the absolute best protection, the Bull Goat Armor Set from >!Patches !<has the highest defensive stats, but it's really heavy. So are the super-heavy armor like the Fire Prelate and Lionel's Armor.

If you want great protection that won't over-encumber you, go for Radahn's Lion Armor Set. It will last you for pretty much the entire game. The Veteran's Armor Set and Tree Sentinel Armor Set outperform it slightly, but are endgame armor.

For Helms, the ones that boost your stats are more valuable than straight-up pure defensive ones, especially if you're using magic. I personally go for the Witch's Glintstone Crown you get at the end of >!Sellen's !<questline. Others go for the Twinsage Glintstone Crown.

If you want to farm for it, and spec for item discovery, I recommend the Banished Knight Armor. Not the one that says (Altered), but one with a cape. It's a late game rare drop from the a single Banished Knight at >!Castle Sol!<, but it has the best overall stats for a chest piece. You have to farm the Knight that appears with two wolves, but you can't access this area until the endgame, and the enemies here are TOUGH.

Zyhre · 3 years ago

Banished Knight Helmet (with Scarf) can be farmed as soon as you start the game. There is a single Banished Knight with it that spawns at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion (Caelid). He's literally almost touching the Site of Grace and he's the only enemy around. Super super easy farm. I also really like his shield and while it's not as good as Brass, it's definitely more fashionable.

You can farm the entire set from the early banished knight in stormviel(or dragon communion), and have boc "un-alter" the chest piece(which gives the cape back). Boc can actually "un-alter" all of the "altered" gear you find, but you have to get him the gold sewing kit and meet him at the capitol.

Good is subjective. If you have unlimited equip weight the Bull Goat armor has the highest physical resistances. Elden ring does really have linear progression with armor sets like other RPGS.

I think some good sets include a helm that gives you +stats on your main stat, or ones you need, and as much physical resistance as you can have without going to heavy weight.

What is the best armor set in Elden Ring? A simple statistical analysis, UPDATED for Shadow of the Erdtree DLC!

Posted by AphoticFlash · in r/Eldenring · 1 year ago
post image

Some of you may have seen my previous post on the best armor set in Elden Ring, and a few people have commented or DM'd since then asking for an update including the DLC armor sets as well, so here it is! All methodology will be the same as before, so check that post for full details; I did slightly tweak the category weights to make standard physical resist more impactful, which is the only change.

You'll notice that the new best armor sets, runner ups, and most efficient sets in every single category are from the DLC, which makes sense since newer, more late-game loot should be better, so try out some of the new armor!

Very Light (15 and below)

Very Light Armor Sets

Starting off with the lightest category, my recommendations for Very Light armor sets are:

  • Best: Gravebird Set for highest overall stats, but you have to look like a goddamn gravebird
  • Balanced: Ansbach's Set is slightly worse than Gravebird Set, especially in physical resist, but almost one point lighter. Plus, it looks WAY cooler
  • Most efficient: Hornsent Set for the most ridiculously high efficiency across all armor sets, although it's only a 3-piece. It's essentially equivalent to the Guilty Set in the base game, but a full point (15%) lighter!

Light (15 to 23)

Light Armor Sets

The next category is Light armor sets:

  • Best: Fire Knight Set is the new clear best light armor set, with high resists and high efficiency
  • Balanced: Messmer's Set has slightly higher efficiency, and you can cosplay as Messmer
  • Most efficient: Igon's Set has the highest efficiency in this category by a small margin

Medium (23 to 35)

Medium Armor Sets

Next up, my recommendations for Medium armor sets are:

  • Best: Black Knight Set has the highest stats by a decent margin in this category
  • Balanced: Divine Bird Set is decently strong and very efficient
  • Most efficient: Oathseeker Knight Set has the highest efficiency by a very small margin

Heavy (35 and above)

Heavy Armor Sets

Lastly, recommendations for the no-limits Heavy armor sets (and probably the most useful for late-game DLC content) are:

  • Best: Verdigris Set is the new "best" armor in the game if weight does not matter, and by a fairly large margin as well. The efficiency also isn't too bad, especially compared to the previous best from the base game!
  • Balanced: Gaius's Set is actually very efficient for how protective it is. Solitude Set is also worth calling out simply because of how early and easy to acquire it is, that's the one I've been rocking for the entire DLC
  • Most efficient: Young Lion's Set is actually EXTREMELY efficient, even being more efficient than most medium armor sets, and I'd actually be inclined to say this is overall the best armor in the game

Conclusion

So there you have it, the best armor sets in Elden Ring including the DLC! Same caveats as last time, such as not including passive effects or individual armor pieces, and others covered in the original post.

There is a very clear conclusion from this though: USE DLC ARMOR! Across the board in all weight and evaluation categories, DLC armor is just better than base game armor. Also a lot of the "special" lore armor sets are the best in their categories, which is cool as well. Have fun!

Yeah, some of the new armors are extremely worth using. Before I even entered the DLC, I knew I wanted to be a fat-roll build in heavy armor, but I was originally just going to go in with my usual heavy armor set -- imagine my surprise when, not even fifteen minutes into the DLC, I have myself a shiny new heavy armor set that rivals Bullgoat while looking much better.

Oh, another thing: read armor descriptions -- there are some armors, especially helms but a few chests too, that have additional effects.

Yeah, the Solitude Armor really checks all the boxes for me too, and I wanted to wait until I had (almost) beaten the DLC to make this so I wouldn't spoil myself, but turns out it's just one of the best overall armor sets right off the bat.

I read the armor descriptions for the lore, not the armor effects themselves. Highly recommend that as well!

The Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold sell the Knight Armour set.

To access the roundtable hold I believe you need to rest at two graces outside of Limgrave. If you've rested in Liurnia you can also use the sending gate behind the third church of Marika to get to the Bestial Sanctum in Caelid Dragonbarrow.

This! The whole set is a bit expensive for the beginning of the game (13.500 runes) but it's a great armor with 51 poise that will last you for a long time. With 15-20 endurance you can carry most weapons and still mid roll.

Tha scaled armor provides good protection and poise for relatively light weight. You can get it in the early midgame if I'm not mistaking. But really, armour is not too important. You want to have a poise of 51 (for pve) to be able to tank lighter hits while obtaining medium load. Apart from that just wear what you find to be the most appealing. Drip over stat!

Generally speaking, like the weapons the starting gear is almost always viable up until the lategame.

I know this post is a little old, but I myself prefer to take advantage of the games localized damage. Lets say you have no chest piece on but you also have the blackened gauntlets or whatever they're called. If you block a sword strike with your arm so that it hits the gauntlet, that will mean you take much less damage than you would if you were hit in the torso where you're wearing nothing.

I specifically like to wear a plate chest piece, plate gauntlets, a plate helmet, and sorcerers everything else. However, since you said you don't like magic as much, I would recommend trying to wear lower tier armour in place of where I would use sorcerers gear to preserve your focus regen and mobility. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, you could wear nothing at all except for the chestplate, gauntlets, and helmet. A metal chestpiece is good because it's a huge target and therefore a large area protected, the gauntlets are good because you can block with them as a last resort (Or just to feel badass.) And the helmet it great for archers so you don't get one tapped by some fuckass guy way up on a cliff.

My final point is that if you have a sorcerers glove on your right hand and a metal gauntlet on your left, then spells charged in your right hand will charge faster. This may not apply to you as much but I find it very useful personally.

TLDR; Damage is localized, take advantage of it. Sacrifice protection for speed in certain places where you don't get hit as much. Wear a metal helmet.

I started of with more protecting armor, but as I progressed I got more magic enhancing armor. Now I do more of a mix between cool looking and magic armor

Could you tell me what you use? I really like the blackened gauntlets and helmet but the red set looks ugly when pairing it with it. I use a long sword and my offhand for magic 🙏

IMO the Marauder Torso (Red Armor) looks more stylish with the Acolyte Cowl. Pair that with the blackened gauntlets and it looks pretty good.

Depends on what your play style. How do you usually resolve encounters?

I typically just use my sword and fist, with slow mo sometimes. And maybe some telekinesis if there’s a large group of enemies.

If you like getting close and personal then more protective armor might be your thing, just incase they manage to sneak a hit in there. Or you might take more mobility focused armor, so you can run circles around them.

I fiddled a lot with the 3 bis sets and I settled on max armour low magic resistance medium stance. Magic is brutal in the early game but when you get used to it it's really ridiculously easy to dodge.

If it helps, there is a full list of armour and their stats available at elvi.has.coffee/SoulframePlus but part will be down to your play style and choices.

I personally rock the Tempest helm, Suit of Rancor and Cloven Hose. It gives a decent overall protection and the drip combo is still pretty solid for our ugly jaws on female envoys.

Considering that most damage in melee range is physical (magical damage is often easier to avoid), I wear Suit of Rancor.

You'll never see the practical difference in defense for what we have in the game so far, go nuts with what limited sets we have.

Armour to pair with my Greatsword

Posted by GreatJoey91 · in r/DarkSouls2 · 7 months ago
post image

I’ve levelled up my character, I’ve maxed out my beloved Greatsword, but the fashion is seriously letting down my build right now and I need some help!

Please give me some recommendations for light or medium armour that will pair with my weapon of choice, and where I can find it.

I agree with this man, everyone knows that the one who wields a greatsword need to be completely naked, to show superiority and dominance

I think a major emphasis was taken off of armor because most people wanna fashion souls anyway.

Bull-Goat set has the highest poise in the game

Veteran’s set has the best Poise/Weight ratio

Beast Champion set, in terms of raw resistance and poise, is probably the best armor you can get in the first 5 minutes after touching The First Step grace at the cost of not being able to get the Raging Wolf set later

Best armor in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Key Considerations for Armor in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

  1. Damage Resistance: Look for armor sets that provide high physical and elemental damage resistance. Different sets excel against specific damage types (e.g., slashing, piercing, magic).

  2. Weight Class: Consider the weight of the armor. Heavier armor offers better protection but can hinder mobility and stamina regeneration. Aim for a balance that suits your playstyle (e.g., light, medium, or heavy).

  3. Poise: Higher poise allows you to withstand hits without being staggered. If you prefer a tanky build, prioritize armor with high poise ratings.

  4. Set Bonuses: Some armor sets provide unique bonuses or effects when worn as a complete set. Check for any synergies with your build.

  5. Aesthetic and Lore: While not gameplay-related, the look and lore of the armor can enhance your immersion in the game.

Recommended Armor Sets:

  • Blaidd's Armor Set: Offers a good balance of weight and protection, with decent poise. It's stylish and fits well with a melee-focused build.

  • Lionel's Set: A heavy armor set with excellent physical damage resistance and poise, ideal for tanky builds.

  • Raging Wolf Set: Provides a good mix of protection and weight, making it versatile for various playstyles.

  • Malenia's Set: Known for its high resistance to bleed and decent overall protection, making it a solid choice for PvP and PvE encounters.

Takeaway: Choose armor based on your build and playstyle, balancing protection with mobility. Experiment with different sets to find the one that complements your character best!
