What Redditors are Saying

Best ASUS Gaming Keyboards

TL;DR

  • ASUS ROG Claymore II: Modular design, wireless capability [1:1]
  • ASUS ROG Strix Scope II: Highly praised for its performance [1:2]
  • ASUS ROG Azoth: Notable for linear switches and overall quality [1:3]

ASUS ROG Claymore II

The ASUS ROG Claymore II is a standout option due to its modular design, which allows users to detach the numpad or even place it on the left side of the keyboard. This flexibility is appreciated by users who value customization and space management. Additionally, its wireless capability with a long-lasting battery life of about a week makes it a convenient choice for those looking to minimize cable clutter [1:1].

ASUS ROG Strix Scope II

Another highly recommended keyboard is the ASUS ROG Strix Scope II. Users have praised it as the best keyboard they've used, highlighting its performance in gaming scenarios. While specific features weren't detailed in the discussion, the positive feedback suggests that it offers a reliable and satisfying user experience [1:2].

ASUS ROG Azoth

The ASUS ROG Azoth is noted for its high-quality linear switches, which outperform other popular switch options like Glorious Fox and Lynx. The Azoth has received praise for its build quality and performance, making it a strong contender for gamers seeking a premium typing and gaming experience [1:3]. One user also mentioned getting this keyboard at a significant discount, indicating that deals can be found if one is patient [1:9].

Considerations When Choosing a Gaming Keyboard

While the above keyboards are highly recommended, it's important to consider personal preferences such as switch type, design, and budget. Mechanical keyboards offer a range of switch types (linear, tactile, clicky) that can significantly affect the feel and sound of typing. Customization options, extra keys, and software compatibility are also factors to consider when selecting the best keyboard for your needs [5:1].

I’m using a claymore ii. Love the fact it lasts a week wireless and that you can take off the numpad and even put it on the left side of the board if you want to.

I have a lot of high end keyboard but none of them are as good.

I bought my teenage son this keyboard for Christmas and he freaking loves it. Every couple of days he tells me it's the best present I could've gotten him. It was about $10 or $15 cheaper during the holidays though.

The best one is whatever you are comfortable with and what fits in your budget. I would definitely recommend trying out one of those name brand mechanical keyboards but what switches you want is going to be personal. I have the Corsair K70 with Cherry mx Brown switches and I like them a lot. A nice balance between soft and clicky. The iCue program sucks so don't use it if you don't mind the default lights. Best option is to start with something cheep and with some switch type. Make sure you can change out the switches without soldering (The Corsair K70 does NOT have that feature) so if you want you can just buy new switches without a whole new keyboard. Then once you find switches you like. Go nuts. It's a personal choice really.

morph-au · 7 months ago

It's a great keyboard, I have two the og Black and Moonlight with nx snow as. The only thing I wasn't too pleased about was the acoustics/sound. I ended up just trying the tape mod 3 layers and it made the keystrokes sound deeper and more creamy.

Unfortunately, it still pales against my Nuphy Halo v2 with mint switches. I find myself gravitating to that over my Azoth for typing-intensive days.

1 upvotes on reddit
al96n · 6 months ago

I second this, since I've sent mine for RMA I bought an aula f75 (crazy deal for 25 euros) to not be without a mechanical keyboard. The aula despite it costs less than 10% of the rog azoth sounds much better. I will probably mod top to bottom my azoth once it will come back as I'll probl use the f75 as my daily driver.

For things like keyboards and headphones i would generally stay away from the main-gaming brands, usually you get better products from lesser-known manufacturers like Keychron or Ducky, i have a Keychron V6 at home and a Ducky Origin in black at work.

I could've gotten fancier but they're both a big upgrade from similarly priced gaming keyboards i had before

2 upvotes on reddit
PastAd1087 · OP · 2 months ago

Ill look into keychorn heard a couple youtubers mentioned them as.well. Like 5 years ago my step sons gaming pc died so I have him mine and my razer keyboard to my wife for work since she wanted a wrist rest and I already had the keyboard with it. Building a custom desk for gaming and just started looking into keyboards since its been a while didnt know if there was any major breakthroughs in tech or features worth checking out.

1 upvotes on reddit
I
IMKGI · 2 months ago

For work keyboards, definitely go with silent ones. Surprisingly, mechanical keyboards with silent switches are often quieter than rubber dome keyboards.

When it comes to wrist rests, it’s not a big deal if your keyboard doesn’t come with one. I just grabbed a random one off Amazon—pretty sure it was from HyperX. The main thing is to match the length of the wrist rest with your keyboard’s layout (full-size vs. tenkeyless, for example). Personally, I prefer a small gap—just a few centimeters—between the keyboard and the wrist rest. Having them attached would be uncomfortable for me.

As for must-have features without spending too much: look for VIA-compatible keyboards. VIA lets you remap every key and set up custom macros. Also, make sure the keyboard has n-key rollover and anti-ghosting—super important for games where you press a bunch of keys at once with both hands (Project Diva Mega Mix is a great example).

And finally, switches. There’s a ton of variety—loud, quiet, linear, clicky, tactile, different spring weights, actuation points, and so on. Do some research, and if you can, grab one of those switch tester kits to try out a bunch before committing. It's totally worth it.

There's a few premium features like gasket mounts and a few other things, but going down that rabbit hole gets expensive fast.

1 upvotes on reddit
Howwanna · 2 months ago

You may be unsure if you need it, but the latest tech in keyboards is Hall effect, which allows you to customize the actuation point on every key to open doors to many new possibilities. Not only does this bring typing personalization to a whole new level, magnetic switches are viewed as superior as they don't use mechanical contacts to trigger an input, and can in theory last longer.

Our newest Hall effect keyboard is almost on the market - the ROG Falcata - the world's first wireless + Hall effect + split ergonomic keyboard (can also be used like a normal keyboard).

On the other hand, if you would like to one day customize your keyboard, check out ROG's custom DIY keyboards - the ROG Azoth and Azoth Extreme.

I got a Logitech G915 last fall after my Razer Huntsman Elite died due to power fluctuations at our house. I really like it - it has a nice feel to it, the lighting options are easy to use (I already had G Hub installed for my headphones), and it's not too big/clunky for my tiny hands. I was hesitant to get a wireless keyboard as I've always had wired before, but there have been zero issues with connectivity or responsiveness. I would buy it again.

arokyn · 4 months ago

Seconded. As someone who also has small hands coming from the low profile Apple Magic keyboards/laptop keys I highly recommend G915 as well. Had mine for 4 years now with no issues. Also recommend for people who like to push the key all the way down. The buttons and volume wheel are my absolute favorite. Sucks that we can’t replace key caps but one of the best stock keyboards imo.

best asus gaming keyboard

Key Considerations for Choosing the Best ASUS Gaming Keyboard:

  1. Switch Type: ASUS offers various mechanical switches (e.g., ROG NX, Cherry MX). Choose based on your preference for tactile feedback (clicky vs. linear) and actuation force.

  2. Build Quality: Look for a keyboard with a sturdy construction, such as aluminum or high-quality plastic, to ensure durability during intense gaming sessions.

  3. Backlighting: RGB lighting is a popular feature. Consider keyboards with customizable lighting effects to enhance your gaming setup.

  4. Programmable Keys: Extra programmable keys can provide shortcuts for gaming commands, making gameplay more efficient.

  5. Anti-Ghosting and N-Key Rollover: These features ensure that multiple key presses are registered simultaneously, which is crucial for fast-paced gaming.

  6. Software Support: ASUS keyboards often come with ROG Armoury software for customization of macros, lighting, and profiles.

Recommendations:

  • ASUS ROG Strix Scope: This keyboard features ROG NX switches, customizable RGB lighting, and a compact design. It’s great for FPS gamers due to its wider Ctrl key and durable build.

  • ASUS ROG Claymore II: A premium option with detachable numpad, customizable RGB, and wireless connectivity. It’s versatile for both gaming and productivity.

  • ASUS ROG Strix Flare: Known for its customizable lighting and dedicated media controls, this keyboard is excellent for gamers who also enjoy multimedia features.

Takeaway: Choose a keyboard that fits your gaming style and preferences. If you prioritize portability, consider the Claymore II, while the Strix Scope is ideal for competitive gaming.
