TL;DR
Popular Board Games
Several classic board games are frequently recommended for play on Tabletop Simulator (TTS). "Catan" is a common choice, known for its engaging strategy and player interaction [3:3]
[5:4]. "Azul" is praised for its simplicity and strategic depth, making it ideal for new players
[3:3]
[3:6]. "Ticket to Ride" is another favorite, offering a straightforward yet competitive experience
[3:2]
[5:3].
Unique and Thematic Games
For those looking for something different, "Arkham Horror LCG" and "Sleeping Gods" offer immersive experiences that are hard to find elsewhere [1:7]. "Villainous," especially appealing to Disney fans, provides a unique twist on the traditional board game format
[4:6]
[4:7]. These games can provide a fresh take on tabletop gaming with their thematic elements and storytelling.
Deckbuilders and Card Games
Deckbuilding games like "Aeons End" and "DC Deckbuilder" are popular choices on TTS, providing a blend of strategy and replayability [1:2]. Card games such as "Exploding Kittens" and "Unstable Unicorns" are also mentioned for their fun and light-hearted gameplay
[3:2].
Community and Player Interaction
Finding players can be a challenge, but communities like TTSClub on Discord are valuable resources for connecting with others who share an interest in board games [1:1]
[2:1]. While some users lament the lack of global chat, these communities can help fill the gap by providing active spaces to organize games and discuss strategies
[2:2].
Considerations for Beginners
For beginners, it's important to start with games that are easy to learn. Games like "King of Tokyo," "Epic Spell Wars," and "Splendor" are suggested as good entry points [3:2]. It's also crucial to understand the rules beforehand, as TTS does not automate gameplay
[3:7]. Finding highly rated community-made versions of games can enhance the experience by ensuring quality and ease of use.
What games do you play the most on Tabletop simulator?
How do you usually find players to join you?
TTSClub for me is the best way to look for players.
I have a broad selection of Games I play. I have a strong preference for deckbuilders and anything that works well solo though.
Any suggestions for deckbuilders? Everytime I play something worse than Slay the Spire, I immediately wish I was playing Slay the Spire.
- Aeons End. Probably my favourite Boardgame.
- DC Deckbuilder by Cryptozoic Entertainment. You will need at least two people for that.
- Imperium Classic/Legends (has Deckbuilding elements)
I like hosting sessions of Falling, a card game by Cheapass Games. It's got a stupid premise -- the players are falling, and the goal is to be the last one to hit the ground -- but everyone plays simultaneously. Plus you can only use one hand (if you pick up a card you can't do anything until you put it somewhere) which works pretty well with the interface. The game requires being able to reach all the way across the table which can be hard to do IRL but is easy in TTS.
It usually takes me two or three runs before players get the hang of it, but it's worth it when they do. Especially if you can get them to try their hand at being the dealer as well.
Pokemon TCG, Legends of Sinnoh, Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG GOAT Format, Slay The Spire: The Board Game, Cardfight! Vanguard, and Chess.
Smashup and Keep the Heroes out with friends
It's the games I can't buy anywhere else. I'd gladly buy these otherwise.
Sleeping Gods
Arkham Horror LCG
Quest for El Dorado
LotR the Confrontation
Hey everyone I’m playing, board games all day today. From easier competitive games like root, to semi cooperative ones like betrayal, even some more complex ones like tapestry or barrage. I don’t know enough people who play table top sim, not personally or online. And most server are locked so you can’t even ask to join in 🤷🏻♂️ add me on discord if you like.
Paradoxpete
TTS Club has no shortage of Betrayal lovers. It’s euro games that are dead on that server.
Sigh. Getting rid of global chat seriously killed that game. Discord is great and all. But no matter the size of one, it’s not going to have even 10% of people be active. And that’s depressing. Just makes the whole game seem more dead
TTSClub
Ugh everyone says that. But that place is beans.
Then the official discord
i bought tts with 2 of my friends and wondering what should we play. we have 0 boardgames and experience and so far we only played 8ball, blackjack and uno. what games do you guys reccomend ? thanks in advance
If you'd like to try some games that aren't your normal Life/Monopoly but still pretty easy to learn, check out.
King of Tokyo, Epic Spell wars, Unstable unicorns,Exploding kittens,Splendor,Ticket to Ride ,Coup.
If you like strategy games that can be a bit more difficult. Red Dragon Inn, Puerto Rico, Catan, Azul
Excuse any weird formatting. On mobile.
its okay ! thankyou for the recs !
There is a version of Azul that is fully scripted. You still need to know the rules, so you can decide what to do, but the game is fairly simple and this fully scripted version is super easy to play.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2143374769
ok that looks interesting. thankyoy !
Seconding Azul.
It's a great game for anyone, but especially new board gamers because it is really simple to get started, and you will quickly learn more and more of the strategy. And it is basically a distilled version of the classic "Euro" board game.
I think learning Azul is a great way to get a feel for basic board game mechanics- then you go to a more complicated game with a theme you like.
Settlers of Catan is similar, though it's a tad more complicated than Azul... but also more interesting interactions with other players.
Some common entry games:
Ticket to ride Europe
Settlers of Catan
Love Letter
Coup
Forbidden Island
Pandemic (on easier difficulty set up)
Catan, Clue, Monopoly, Risk, Taboo, Pictionary, Domino, Guess Who?, Battleship, Exploding Kittens, Hanabi, Virus, Cards against Humanity, Root (most complex game of the list)...
thankyou !
TTS can be very fiddly and you need to know the rules of the game just as you would if you were playing in person. It doesn't automatically flip cards for you, change player turn, stop you from performing an illegal move, etc. Also, the community made games vary in quality greatly, so try and find one that has great ratings because it would be a shame to not enjoy a game you otherwise would have. It's a great tool but just some things you should know before going into it.
I haven't checked if my recommendations are available on TTS, but I would be very surprised if they aren't.
There are a few great card games (so not technically board games) that are great gateway games. The reason I chose card games to recommend is because there are fewer moving pieces and like I said, TTS can be fiddly so they might be good games to learn how to use TTS with. Also, because they are good gateway games into the more hobbyist board games.
- Codenames is a very thinky game which can have a bit of downtime if you don't set a limit. You have a grid of cards with words, and there are some words assigned to each team, and then an instant death card. The two teams give one-word clues to their team mates trying to get them to choose as many of their cards as possible without picking the other team's cards or the instant death card.
- The Crew is a co-op trick taking game that has different "missions" so each round you play you are using the same set of rules to accomplish something different.
- The Fox in the Forest is another trick taking game, but only for 2 players. The different suits have different abilities/powers (change trump suit, lead even after losing, etc)
- Welcome to... is a "flip and write" which is similar to a roll and write game - like Yahtzee. It's a game where you plan a neighborhood development by flipping cards in stacks, picking one of the cards' attributes, and applying it to your neighborhood. The further along in the game, the more times you see a card that would have been PERFECT for a specific spot in your neighborhood, but you already filled that spot in with a less good attribute. This game can play an infinite number of players.
damn thankyou very much for this answer !
Me and my friends recently bought TTS to play Codenames, which has been a blast and really fun.
But we want to try out more games, less like a complicated strategy game, more like fun and funny games, Codenames, Catan, Monopoly, Uno, stuff like that.
I just subscribed to a social game called Wavelength that I’m wanting to try out with some peeps. The other games you mention are good on TTS as well.
Ok thanks! I'll give it a try.
Red Dragon Inn is pretty fun and easy to pickup
Every game is there.
Go on BoardGameGeek and look up good games.
Lords of Vegas and Chinatown and Neon Gods for Monopoly, Red7 and Sushi Go Party for Uno, Concordia or Bohnanza or Energy Empire or Wealth of Nations for Catan, and maybe decrypto for Codenames but Codenames is fine.
alot of games i want on tts that i see on bgg are not on there
The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls is a great little game with tonnes of combos and replayability! Easy to pick up, and plenty of alternate ways you could play too.
Sounds great! Thanks!
GOD what did he comment? These deleted Reddit accounts are ruining the future answer seeker.
If you like Disney, Villainous is a fun one!
Villainous is a really underrated game
Dakle redditori, koje društvene/stolne igre trenutno igrate? Koja vam je omiljena? Koja najgora? Jel imate veliku kolekciju igara? Feel free to pour your soul.
Ja sam trenutno u fazi di igram jednostavnije stvari sa obitelji ala Harmonies, Citadels, Canvas, Arboretum i Catan. Harmonies preferiramo svi više manje zbog artwork dizajna i jednostavnosti.
Ankh, Root i Warchest.
SETI od novijih, Agricola, white castle, great western trail, ark nova, nemesis...
>Koja najgora?
Catan :D
>Jel imate veliku kolekciju igara?
Jedno 50-tak naslova
>Uf, previše ih je. SETI od novijih, Agricola, white castle, great western trail, ark nova, nemesis...
Ark nova mi djeluje fora. Imao sam priliku jedanputa gledat uživo kako ekipa igra. SETI me jako interesira.
I ja sam fan jednostavnih igra.
Svašta, ali uglavnom teže mehaničke igre :) Trenutni favorit je SETI, dok u stalnoj postavi imamo Ark Novu, Great Western Trail (obavezno New Zealand) i slične igre.

I have tabletop simulator and was wondering which games you have played on it.
Some of the ports are so wildly unstable that it’s not worth it, but I’m down for any stable game!
I’ve done xwing (okay stability wise) and wingspan (seemed okay but only used it once).
Edit: some made me aware of BGA and that seems like the way to go. So feel free to include BGA game recos too!
I vastly prefer TTS to BGA. Having an environment I can move around in is way better for me. Some good implementations I've played are On Mars, Dune Imperium, Slay the Spire, Voidfall, Carnegie, Boonlake Inventions, Endeavor: Deep Sea, and Gloomhaven.
Not all are scripted, but all have been stable.
I love playing the board game version of a video game in a different video game.
StS on TTS sounds crazy to me but i guess its for people who value the coop play
It’s actually the opposite for me. I own the physical copy and play it co-op in person a lot. But I don’t like playing it solo in real life because the setup and cleanup take too long. So, when I want to play solo, I use TTS—it works surprisingly well for that.
I’ve not played this game but have heard of it!
Spirit Island is definitely one I'd recommend, both as a game in general and as a TTS mod. It's semi-scripted (as most fan mods are) but made with a lot of love and care. You are looking for the one that is by MJ and Iakona (which will probably also have by far the most downloads)
Look for games that had some kind of automatization. There is a version of castle of burgundy and lords of waterdeep that every setup and action have a script that do it for you, its amazing
That would be awesome to have automation. I feel half the problems come from trying to draw one card and throwing the deck.
The TTS mod for the Arkham Horror LCG is the only reason I've been able to experience as many of the campaigns as I have.
How can I find this mod in TTS?
Most of the content on TTS is user-generated, so it’s not an official version of the game. This means that the quality can vary greatly. BGA tends to be far more legit versions of games.
That said, I prefer using TTS because the interface is the same for all games, you have 3d movement and rotation, and you can spawn in other items you may need, like calculators, or scribbling scores on the board.
I often hear how Twilight imperium 4 is, although not necessarily the best game ever, widely considered a prime example of what board games can be.
It’s grandeur, ambition, and sheer wingspan (zing!) all contribute to creating an experience that apparently pushes the boundaries of what board games can achieve.
And that got me thinking: what’s a game that accomplishes the same, but being TI4’s polar opposite?
What game pushes the boundaries of what board games can accomplish by sheer simplicity, humility, and discreetness?
I dunno if anyone’s mentioned Go yet /s
For me, something that can be learned by playing it in only a few rounds and maybe a bit of understanding of different basic strategies, but also that has layers of complexity to the strategy and many ways to play it. Obviously both Chess and Go are the standards (and mentioned 20 times already), but for more modern board games, I like Santorini, Cubitos, and Between Two Cities.
Games the emphasize minimalism? If you like adventure games, give Destinies a try. The rules take 5 minutes to learn. Setup about the same. Gameplay is really fun. Stories are well-written. Table space is minimal.
No, not really games that emphasize minimalism, but games that are really incredibly groundbreaking while being minimalist…
Carcassonne, pick up a tile and put it down. I have had it for years and I still love it.
Crew undersea the game is very simple but every person I have shown it to which at this point is going into the 20s all adore it and everyone is always laughing and getting much more out of the experience than just playing a simple trick taking game.
Not the polar opposite, but I personally think Pax Pamir gives you everything you want from the twilight imperium experience but packaged in 2 hours instead of 6-12 and can be done with 3-5 players instead of 6.
The limited action stress, the political dealings and shifting alliances, the roulette of deciding when to backstab or support who's in the lead. The nail-biting conclusion of being just close enough to the win before someone swipes it from you.
Plus, the game is beautiful and doesn't demand a lot of room.

Inis. It's not resource management but it's an incredible dudes on a map/area control game. It has great strategy, it can swing nicely so the winner isn't obvious and one great play can secure victory, the artwork is beautiful, the expansions make great changes which meaningfully change the feel and flow. There's a kickstarter and the late backer of a new big box version is great value although it's not available for shipping until December. 100% recommend
I'm seconding all of this. There's a lot of strategy but it's not too complicated so it's fairly easy to teach new players.
The board game industry has come a long way since Risk, and the war game category is pretty broad. The board game geek website can be a good starting point to look into new games. You can sort by different types of mechanics and categories of games. If you go into the browse all boardgames section, you can sort the top games in the war game category.
If you're looking for something in a similar vein to risk, but are interested in sci-fi or fantasy themes, you could look at War of the Ring (Lord of the Rings) or Star Wars rebellion. Both are considered some of the best war games ever made, and closely follow their source material.
If you're looking for something that is less strategic and more tactical, you could consider something like Memoir 44 (this is out of print, but is getting a new re-implementation in the Star Wars universe called battle of Hoth). The company of Heroes board game is another excellent choice in this category, but is very expensive.
Root is a unique twist on the war game genre where you play as different woodland creatures battling for territory, that is quite popular and has many unique factions that are interesting to play.
The undaunted series is also kind of a unique world war II themed card drafting tactical war game that has become popular recently and has different variations of games.
These are just a few examples of popular games, but there are tons of options out there and these suggestions don't even scratch the surface of what you can explore like hex and counter or block games.
This is a phenomenal response.
I feel it bears mentioning that Root requires four people committed to learning it. It's a bit overwhelming and you're going to have to play multiple games to start to "get it."
Everyone should show up on the first night with a good sense of the rules and what each faction is likely going to be attempting, otherwise someone is going to sleepwalk to victory and leave most of the table unsatisfied.
You might like 4X games.
If you like the space theme, Eclipse is my favorite of this genre. If you want to go full hardcore, try Twilight Imperium.
If you like Norse mythology and want to play a game more about battles and less about ressource management, try Blood Rage.
I don't like 4x games (so can't recommend any), but does sound like OOP is looking for 4x games. I would start here.
Twilight Imperium is my answer to everything.
Whether it’s the right answer or not is different but I don’t care as I’m obsessed.
Yeah it could definitely be a challenge, but OP did ask for more complexity. I think the difficulty of Root is also heavily dependent on the player and the faction. If you only stick to one base faction to start, especially the cats, it's not as bad. The first time I played Root I had very little experience with board games outside of risk and Catan. Based on my research of the game prior to learning to play, I was expecting it to be way more complicated than I actually found it to be once I started learning it. Trying to learn all the factions and how they interact from the start would be terrible, but learning it little by little as you go certainly makes it more manageable.
War Chest is on my board game GOAT list. It's sooo good. Have all the expansions including Nightfall. We mostly play 2v2.
It’s such a good 2v2 game - I dunno if I’ve found a better 2v2 option, at least not in my own collection.
How’s Nightfall? I haven’t picked up a copy yet.
2 players under 90 minutes: "Iron blood snow and mud". Amazing chess like wargame with cool mechanics and twists.
2 players in the 2-3 hour mark: Dune war for arrakis
3-4 hour mark: Star Wars Rebellion
4+ War of the Rings
3+ player games: Root, Inis, Eclipse, Bloodrage, Ankh, Cyclades
That's fine but for the record, I never placed them in the same category as undaunted, nexus ops etc. You did. Don't be that contrarian guy on the Internet who imagines conversations. I was simply contributing to the conversation. OP asked for suggestions and I offered my opinion.
And additionally, Inis definitely has calculated risk, area control and directed aggression. It has all of those things. You may not like it and that's totally fine but please allow others to to offer opinions without feeling like you must shoot them down
I’ve sunk a fair bit of time into Dune: Imperium. I’ve also played a fair bit of Mage Knight on TBT Simulator. What are some other good digital board games? I’m trying to play more games this year to understand different mechanics better but can’t always find the time to get to the table!
Through the Ages. I resisted for >!ages!< with this one but can’t deny it shrinks 4-6 hour of game into 1-2 hour of game in a remarkably user friendly way. It’s hard justify a whole day to the boardgame (which I will probably end up selling) now, since I only play it with 2.
Ascension is also great pass and play.
The iOS versions of Agricola, Twilight Struggle (iPad only), Terraforming Mars, 7 Wonders, and Race for the Galaxy are all great
Gloomhaven (steam only), Terraforming Mars and root on both IOS and Steam
Here are some extremely well done digital versions (mostly Acram/Dire Wolf game developers)
-Concordia
-Charterstone
-Dune: Imperium
-Everdell
-Istanbul
-Fox in the Forest
-Raiders of the North Sea
-Root
-Scythe
-Spirit Island
-Wingspan
Roll Player, Wingspan, One Deck Dungeon
I also play a lot of Kingdom Builder but it is because I like the game even though the adaptation is not so good (particularly the tiny everything with no undo).
Hey im relatively new to tts and want to try some games.
EDIT: im from germany but speak english
Id be down. I have not played tts in years but have been wanting to start playing it again. I enjoy all types of games besides cards against humanity. (It's not a game)
All impress the judge games are boring. It is the only type of game that has to be super unique for me to play
Amen to that! Hate that game too
Let's play together! Do you play on Steam?
Did you enjoy some TTS games?
Hello! I just got tts, and found a Board game I'm really enjoying called Nemesis. (Think alien the movie, but as a moderately complex boardgame) I've familiarized myself with it and got some scripting tools. Would love to get a group of 4 or so people to play, if you're interested.
Damn that sounds interesting. Whats ur steam?
Bin auch deutsch, m/21 und hätte Lust :)
Klar, wie heisst du auf steam?
