Getting Started with Card Games
Tabletop Simulator (TTS) provides a versatile platform for playing card games. For games using standard decks, you can easily spawn a deck of 52 cards by navigating to Objects -> Components -> Cards
and selecting the standard option [1:1]. This allows you to play card games as you would on a physical table without needing any scripting. Additionally, if you're interested in creating custom cards, you can upload images for the front and back of each card through the custom card feature in the object section
[3:3].
Finding and Playing Specific Games
For specific card games like Magic: The Gathering, TTS offers community-created mods that can be accessed via the Workshop. You can search for "MTG" or "Magic the Gathering" in the Workshop tab, subscribe to the mods, and then load them in TTS [2:1]. These mods often include pre-built decks and scripted tables to streamline gameplay. For those looking for alternatives, platforms like Cockatrice and Spelltable also offer ways to play MTG online
[2:5].
Creating Custom Card Games
If you've developed your own card game and want to bring it to TTS, there are tutorials available, such as those from Ludo Lodge on YouTube, which guide you through the process of uploading your deck and adding rules [3:4]. While basic gameplay can be managed manually, scripting can automate processes like dealing cards or triggering effects when certain cards are played
[3:1].
Community Engagement and Feedback
Once you've set up your game in TTS, sharing it with the community can provide valuable feedback and help build interest. Uploading your mod to the Steam Workshop is an effective way to reach players and gather unbiased opinions [4:1]. Engaging with communities on Discord or other forums can also facilitate finding players and receiving constructive criticism
[1:2].
Additional Resources and Tips
For those new to TTS or seeking additional support, joining the official Discord server can connect you with experienced users who may offer assistance [1:2]. Moreover, including rulebooks or PDFs within your game setup can enhance player experience by providing easy access to instructions
[3:2].
Card games that use a standard deck like this can just be played exactly as you would on a physical table. At any point you can just spawn a deck of 52 cards by going into Objects -> Components -> Cards. There you'll see Standard which will spawn a deck of 52 (press it twice to get the two decks you need), on that same window will be the joker which you can spawn the number you need. From there you just play as you normally would. It's a physics simulator so there's no need for scripting when you have all the pieces.
Thanks for your help. Is there a message board or an appropriate place where I can invite people to play?
You can try the discord. https://discord.gg/tabletopsimulator
How do I create a deck, and how do I play it online?
I've been building a 3D table top sim specifically for mtg, can check it out at arcanetable.app it's also opensource
I've just started using this with my friends and it has been great! A huge thank you for creating it.
I'm glad you like it! Also it's open so if you find any problems with it you can create an issue for it on github
this is amazing!! i tried it out to see how it worked and i love this so much you did such a great job, can more than one person join? or is it just 2 people?
You can get it to work with 4 but the targeting gets a little weird since the card doesn't know who's field to drop on when they overlap
Just downloaded this and the MTG Deluxe Table Scripted add-in. Is there a way to like, shortcut all the dragging stuff for drawing cards and make it a little more akin to just click-to-do a command like draw, etc? Kinda defeats the "simulator" part but I'm not playing in VR to care about that part lol
On mouse and keyboard you can press a number while hovering over the deck to draw that many cards. In pi table you can press the green hand button. Unfortunately, I don't know how it works in vr, but try checking the controls menu
This may be sacrilege here, but have you tried the actual MTG app? It's free.
You can only play 1vs1 there, if you want to play Commander you only can play MTGO or this
theres also cockatrice, spelltable plus others
Search the workshop
Tabletop Sim > Community Tab > Workshop > *search Mtg or magic or magic the gathering > hit subscribe to a couple > load TTS > workshop games > enjoy
I have created a card game which I would like to make in TTS as well.
I have just picked up TTS and I was wondering if there are any tutorials on how to make a card game, together with adding rules, in TTS.
It doesn't matter if I have to script the rules, I will figure it out in the end, but a few steps on how to proceed after uploading the deck, would be great.
Are there any tutorials about this, for a recent/latest version?
I just know that if you have the images of the cards you can make a custom card in the object section. There you put a front and a back, and with that you have a custom card
Thank you for your answer.
I managed to get my deck in TTS. The question now is how to put in the rules. Like when the game starts, 5 cards should be dealt to each player, when a certain card is played something should happen, and so on.
Or am I missing something and all this needs to be done via scripting the rules?
Not sure on all the scripting but I'd like to say it's awesome when people put the rules in the notebook and maybe a PDF on the table.

Hi, I made a card game, that I call, The Art of War the Card Game. A brief description of it goes like this: a 1v1 medieval-fantasy duelling card wargame, where you command mighty armies and magic casting spellcasters, and duel out on a map. It has some similarities to Summoner Wars, but otherwise is quite different.

I’m ok my phone right now, but you may want to include a workshop link too, assuming you have created a mod for others to play!
No, I didn't upload a mod for others to play, tried it before, didn't work, if you want to play it, you got to do it through me. That said, my Discord is Calixtus#9953, feel free to add me.
Oh ok, what about it did not work? If you are having trouble getting it to work on a tabletop simulator, there might be people here who may be able to help.
Otherwise I'm a little confused about what exactly you are looking for. If you are looking for people to try your game, and/or provide you feedback, I would think releasing the game on the workshop would be the best approach for unbiased feedback, and building a community around your game. For example, game designers always say, if people can't figure out the game without you, then that is a design problem you would need to solve if you ever expect to release the game.
Either way though, of course, it's your prerogative. If this is just a passion project and you want someone to just play it with you that's cool too, and I wish you the best of luck!
I've added the game to Tabletop Simulator so people can try the game out with their friends online. The mod also includes a tablet with the game rules as well as a sample deck for each of the five colors so people can immediately start playing. (Note: The design of the decks isn't to be the best possible deck composition. They are only to explore different possible play styles while making it as easy as possible to quickly learn how to play the game.)
And just to be clear, I've only used the watermarked cards that are freely available on the website, and the card backs are a custom image I created myself using the booster pack art as a source. I don't want to use any scans of cards because I want to avoid promoting art stealing, counterfeiting, or proxying. I'm also not going to add any of the God cards without Shylily's/GamerSupps' blessing. And finally, I will probably take the mod down if the game gets an official digital version.

I'm really interested in getting the set, but I'm more interested in the gameplay aspect than just collecting.
How does the game feel so far? Does it feel like it has a decent amount of depth so far?
Honestly, the game is War with extra steps. The way that the rules are set up, there is potential for depth and complexity with the release of future sets, but for now the available strategies and play styles don't feel distinct enough to really lead to a strong variety of games. It also doesn't help that all the mascots are identical and there are basically 8-9 effects shared among all the talent cards. I think with time and community involvement, though, the game will get better.
Wow, that's really impressive. I was pretty surprised that they launched the game without any starter decks - it feels like every TCG outright needs an entry-level product to give players an idea of how the game plays. Fantastic on your part to put some together!
The actual gameplay feature is a gimmick is why it's mainly for collecting.
There are certain situations where the rules dont rely seem to function. You just kinda lose the game on the spot and there are situations where the game infinitly loops forever with no solution but to stop playing.
Ah, hello again! Hope you enjoyed the con!
Anyway... yeah, the appeal is mostly in the cards being merchandise. Even then, it might have been nice to sell starter decks; I could imagine some fans buying them instead of full booster boxes for collecting purposes (especially if it included a card with a fancy special treatment and/or a booster pack).
Would have been cool if the gameplay side got a bit more attention (from the creators and the fans alike), but... maybe the TCG market's too competitive for that.
This is amazing! Thank you!
Thank you!
Hey everyone!
Around me there are no TCGs that offer drafts and I have been really missing drafting MTG. I have hit my breaking point and I want to get back into drafting MTG and seeing all the people enjoying their crazy pulls from draft.
Because of this I am going to be making a discord server open to anybody who wants to learn or play some drafts of various sets. All of the drafts will be played through table top sim on steam.
Platform: Tabletop Simulator - Steam
Time: TBD - whenever people want to (in the discord)
Cost: Nothing... I just wanna run drafts!
Entry level: nothing again, if you want a rundown of strategy or anything else I am happy to talk to you about it because I am a nerd who loves drafting.
Here is the discord if you are interested and I am looking forward to playing with anybody who wants to draft some MTG!!
How do you draft on table top sim?
I dug around and found some pack generators that could be used if people wanna take their time and do everything in table top sim, OR we use a website like draftmancer to do the draft and then copy and paste the decks into table top sim to play some games. I've tried both, and they seem to work decently.
Im interested
Format?
I would like to run traditional limited events but I am happy to run different types of events like commander draft or commander sealed. Would love to accommodate but first I just need the player base!
Gotcha. I’d mostly be interested in cube drafts.
looking for people to play draft with on table top sim!! (Beginners welcome)

Sounds awesome. How does draft work on TTS? In terms of making packs of boosters mimic the distribution of real cards?
Currently testing between two methods but each of them work and feel like a draft! Super open to recommendations.
* Through TTS there is a way through generating packs
* Drafting online with draftmancer which is preferrable since it handles everything nicely
there is an importer tool, you just enter the set name and it spawns boosters correctly for each player
Sorry I replied to you on accident. It has been moved up ^.
I'm looking to play a few digital games. Anyone got information on playing conquest on TTS?
Conquest Eternal on discord is your friend.
Here is the discord for people who do https://discord.gg/gzeGQEfWnf
I have tried to get it to work for me, but it won’t. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Here is a youtube video also outlining what to do.
It's how I play it. You can find the modules in the steam workshop for the game. Some of the models are very incomplete though
I know licensed games for monopoly and uno exist, but I figured "Why not just get tabletop simulator and buy one game instead of multiple games?"
Do you guys recommend this? Are the games still enjoyable to play on tabletop simulator? Thanks!
Yes, and plenty more. Just have a few people watch the tutorial to learn a few shortcuts. That will make the gaming more accessible.
There's a few essential shortcuts that will make your life easier. Flip, rotate, draw card, ALT zoom, magnify, Rotate camera.
Yes, you can.

I've gamed through the pandemic thanks to TTS. I've been exposed to games I'd never have played and bought their physical copies for when we can game in person again. As much as I love in person board gaming and holding/interacting with physical components, there is something to be said about scripted setups, and not having to put anything away at the end of a long session. It's also nice to be able to grab a save and continue another night without worrying about what the cat's going to do to the pieces.

It can be quirky, and it's not the same as being around a table, but it works.
Which games do you recommend?
Nemesis is great and very well scripted. Century Gollum is quick to learn and fun to play. Outer Rim is a fun Star Wars game. Clank is fun. I'm waiting on a deck builder called Philosophia: Floating World from kickstarter. I backed it having first played it on TTS. Horrified is a simple... love letter to the universal monster movies.
There are tons of games available, and all for free minus the cost of tts which goes on half off sale all the time.
Tons of free games that are great to play. I used to love hero quest when I was a kid. I found a free version on TTS to show my friends this great DnD intro game.
yes.
and thousands more, all free
I would. There's no reason to spend $10 on Uno when you can spend $20 (or $10, if on sale) for Tabletop Simulator and get access to almost any board game imaginable. You won't get the same presentation, but the value you get in TTS is undeniable. Make sure that you at least get the 4-pack and then split the cost savings between your friends (although I would suggest waiting for the sale since you'd be spending half as much money; up to you though).
I'm a few months into magic, and compelety hooked. My group try to get together once a week to play paper but sometimes life happens. I would love to find some cool people to play with using tabletop simulator, i've tried it once and I think it worked great. Is there a place to find such groups?
Just out of curiosity, how do you make your decks in TTS? Is it an extra asset pack you have to bring in? I play lots of board games on it. But I never even thought about magic.
You just copy paste the decklist into the table, it was crazy simple once you got it
The last time this was brought up, someone mentioned this discord group with ~8k members https://discord.gg/blacklotuscollective
