What Redditors are Saying

Best Bosses to Farm in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

TL;DR Bosses do not respawn for farming runes. Instead, focus on efficient rune farming spots like the bird farm or consider NG+ for replaying bosses [2:1].

Boss Respawn Mechanics

In Elden Ring, bosses do not respawn after being defeated, which means they cannot be farmed repeatedly for runes [2:1]. This is a key consideration when planning your strategy for gaining runes and progressing through the game. If you wish to fight bosses again, this can only be done by starting a New Game Plus (NG+) where you keep your gear and levels but face all bosses anew [2:1].

Rune Farming Alternatives

Since bosses don't respawn, players have suggested alternative methods for farming runes. The "bird farm" is a popular spot for efficiently gathering runes without needing to engage in boss fights [2:1]. Additionally, exploring areas with high enemy density or using specific farming techniques can yield significant rune gains.

Notable Boss Encounters

While farming bosses isn't possible, knowing which bosses are considered main encounters can help prioritize your progression. In the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, there are 43 boss encounters, with 12 identified as main bosses due to their significance or the rewards they offer [5]. Understanding the order and significance of these bosses can aid in strategizing your gameplay and ensuring you experience all major content.

Community Recommendations

Players often discuss their favorite bosses based on mechanics or lore significance. For example, Lienvir, Herald of Vigilance, was praised for its unique stealth and surprise attack mechanics [3:3]. Engaging with community discussions can provide insights into which bosses might offer memorable experiences, even if they aren't farmable for resources.

Additional Considerations

For those interested in revisiting boss battles purely for enjoyment, other games like Lords of the Fallen offer modes where bosses can be refought without rewards or progression impact [2:2]. While Elden Ring doesn't currently support this feature, it's a concept that could enhance replayability and satisfaction for players seeking to relive challenging encounters.

I know this might be a demanding post but I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me? This game is so massive my only goal is to 100% everything, to achieve true sigma gamer status. Thank you.

Uh, this is way too massive. There's like, hundreds of bosses in the game.

Can help you with kind of an order of major bosses though (there's a few questlines running together that kind of follow this order to complete them properly, I may have some of these out of order in terms of difficulty):

  1. >!Bloodhound Knight Darriwil!<
  2. >!Margit, the Fell Omen!<
  3. >!Godrick the Grafted!<
  4. >!Omenkiller!<
  5. >!Red Wolf of Radagon!<
  6. >!Rannala the Full Moon Queen!<
  7. >!Royal Knight Loretta!<
  8. >!Glintstone Dragon Adula!<
  9. >!Ancestral Spirit!<
  10. >!Commander O'Neill!<
  11. >!Nox Swordstress!<
  12. >!Elder Dragon Greyoll!<
  13. >!Starscourge Radahn!<
  14. >!Mimic Tear!<
  15. >!Regal Ancestor Spirit!<
  16. >!Margit, the Fell Omen!<
  17. >!Draconic Tree Sentinel!<
  18. >!Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast!<
  19. >!God-Devouring Serpent!<
  20. >!Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy!<
  21. >!Godfrey, the First Elden Lord!<
  22. >!Morgott, the Omen King!<
  23. >!Black Blade Kindred!<
  24. >!Astel, Naturalborn of the Void!<
  25. >!Glintstone Dragon Adula!<
  26. >!Commander Niall!<
  27. >!Borealis the Freezing Fog!<
  28. >!Fire Giant!<
  29. >!Godskin Duo!<
  30. >!Dragonlord Placidusax!<
  31. >!Maliketh, the Black Blade!<
  32. >!Lichdragon Fortissax!<
  33. >!Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing!<
  34. >!Godfrey, First Elden Lord!<
  35. >!Hoarah Loux!<
  36. >!Radagon of the Golden Order!<
  37. >!Elden Beast (do not go to NG+)!<
  38. >!Death Rite Bird!<
  39. >!Mohg, Lord of Blood!<
  40. >!Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree!<
  41. >!Malenia, Goddess of Rot (go to NG+ after)!<

In between these, there are obviously lots of bosses I've missed or forgotten about.

Great list! I was wondering if Radahn was the next boss as the difficulty seems to have ramped up for that area.

I'm trying to do things in the order I feel the game is telling me to do and that's exactly the same as your list up to Radahn.

I can tell you main bosses. Any 2 shardbearers out of the 5 accesible at the start of the game (godrick, renalla, mohg, rykard, Radahn)(mohg and rykard are extremely high level though), 2. Draconic tree sentinel 3. Godfrey ghost. 4 Godrott. 5 Fire giant. 6 god skin duo 7. Maliketh 8. Real Godfrey/ horah loux. 9. Final boss. This is the bare bones fastest route though the game. This doesn’t account for mini bosses in respective dungeons and bosses to get items that are needed to go on this route.

Note about 6) godskin duo, I cannot be 100% sure, as that area is such a mess, but I think I stumbled my way to a skip. First time I entered that boss-fight, I did not enter from the nearby grace, I entered it from the other side, meaning, you could probably navigate yourself to the next area without actually beating them.

Do bosses respawn ?

Posted by Bot8000 · in r/Eldenring · 1 month ago

I am a beginner. So far i defeated the watchdog, beastman, patches, stonedigger troll, the guy on a boat that summons skeletons, and a dragon next to the gatefront ruins. These bosses don't seem to respawn even after i rest at the site of grace.

Do bosses in elden ring just not respawn ? I thought i could farm some easy bosses for runes, but i can't apparently.

Bosses do NOT respawn.

But if you wanna farm runes, look up the bird farm.

If you just wanna redo the bosses, then you can do that after you have completed the game you can do NG+ that lets you keep your gear and levels and fight each boss again.

Turbulent_Pin_9392 · 1 month ago

Lords of the fallen has a game mode at their lamp shrines called Echoes of Battle, and lets you fight each remembrance boss again for fun. No rewards, no progression, no items lost if you die. Just straight boss rematch’s. Elden Ring could learn from that I think.

Edit: grammar

Where is he? Tall grass makes me think its in the open plains east if the Audvír fight, but I didn’t have my horse with me so I turned back around.

I JUST beat swordsman so is this guy upcoming?

8 upvotes on reddit
UltiMondo · 5 years ago

Yeah, it’s optional and not really accessible till late game when you have all three sigil moonstones. Make your way back to the Runic Lake area and place the corresponding stones on the correct pedestals scattered throughout. You might remember them because until you have all three stones you simply get a “You cannot interact” message when approaching them. Once they are l in place, Lievnir rises from the lake and the fight is initiated.

Be careful though: if you place the wrong stones on the wrong pedestals, you can lock yourself out of the fight.

Grove Exclusives

A lot of the posts i have searched have partial info or were never followed up—

Do we have a final list of bosses/gathers/fish in the treasure groves that you should be going for since there is no other spawn

I understand that you can spam the Don in various ways but I’d rather go through the groves but really would like to limit the amount of waste i have resetting groves. Please let me know if this is everything or if i am missing some but my understanding is every other boss can be found at Ginormosia rank 3-5 (6 for nap dragon)

So far all i got is:

Bosses:

Crystal Behemoth

Lord of death

Resource:

Giant Scale

Gather mining:

Heart of darkness

Resource:

Sultan Heart

Evil shard (can also drop from Lord of Death)

Gather tree:

Dragontree

Resource:

Dragontree Wing

Dragontree horn

Fishing:

Beelzebub Tuna

Godfish

Great Lucky Bream

HighFlying fish

Poseidon Sword Fish

List of Every True Boss in Shadow of the Erdtree

Posted by Soft-Respect2047 · in r/Eldenring · 1 year ago

There are 43 total boss encounters in the dlc that have a red bar at the bottom of the screen. Here is a list of them all for anyone trying to figure out what bosses they still need to do.

The bosses I have listed as main bosses are the ones that are required to beat the dlc, or they give you a remembrance. I’m also including Bayle as a main boss since the heart he drops is basically a remembrance. The only main boss of the 12 listed that doesn’t give you a remembrance is needle knight. There are a few repeat bosses, which I’m also including towards the total boss count of 43. If I’m missing any let me know.

  • Blackgaol Knight
  • Divine Beast Dancing Lion (x2) (main boss)
  • Ghostflame Dragon (x3)
  • Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze
  • Death Knight (x2)
  • Rellana, Twin Moon Knight (main boss)
  • Golden Hippopotamus
  • Black Knight Edredd
  • Chief Bloodfiend
  • Dancer of Ranah
  • Demi-Human Queen Marigga
  • Putrescent Knight (main boss)
  • Ancient Dragon-Man
  • Jagged Peak Drake
  • Jagged Peak Drakes (duo boss)
  • Ancient Dragon Senessax
  • Bayle the Dread (main boss)
  • Rugalea the Great Red Bear
  • Death Rite Bird
  • Lamenter
  • Messmer the Impaler (main boss)
  • Red Bear
  • Ralva the Great Bear
  • Rakshasa
  • Jori, Elder Inquisitor
  • Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame (main boss)
  • Curseblade Labirith
  • Commander Gaius (main boss)
  • Tree Sentinel (x2)
  • Fallingstar Beast
  • Scadutree Avatar (main boss)
  • Metyr, Mother of Fingers (main boss)
  • Dryleaf Dane
  • Black Knight Garrew
  • Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers & Swordhand of Knight Jolan
  • Romina, Saint of the Bud (main boss)

I think it's 42 and not 41. Mainly because you can confuse the tree sentinel boss as a duo, however they are technically 2 separate bosses as when you kill one it says "enemy felled" and you can rest or travel away and it won't respawn if you haven't killed the other one. This is not like the tree sentinel duo boss outside the capital where if you kill one it doesn't say "enemy felled" and the one you kill will respawn if you haven't killed the other one yet.

1 upvotes on reddit
Soft-Respect2047 · OP · 1 year ago

This was a tough one for me, trust me. When u kill the first Tree Sentinel u get zero runes. When u kill the second, you receive all the runes. So for that reason, I think they should be a duo boss. It’s tough though, but I think the intention was for it to be a duo boss.

1 upvotes on reddit
ArtThen9871 · 1 year ago

Why fromsoft didn't make it exactly like the other one, I don't know. For me personally, I consider the "enemy felled" and the fact that it won't respawn as the indicator that they're 2 separate bosses but your stance makes sense too. But you do get zero souls for killing Aldia in Ds2, but it's still it's own boss.

Field Bosses Ranked by HP to Rune efficiency

Posted by ozeor · in r/Nightreign · 1 month ago
post image

Methodology

Each boss page from the Elden Ring Nightreign wiki lists the boss’s stance/poise (how easy they are to stagger), whether they can be parried or critically hit, their damage types, negations (damage absorption percentages) and resistances to status effects, and the health and rune reward for each variant (night, field, castle, etc.). Recorded the solo‑play HP and rune rewards for each variant and calculated a simple rune‑efficiency metric (runes ÷ HP). A higher ratio means more runes earned per unit of health, i.e., better rewards relative to how long the fight lasts. Resistances, negations and stance values are summarised because they influence difficulty – bosses with high stance or high damage negations take longer to stagger or kill.

97 upvotes on reddit
LobsterPurple4035 · 1 month ago

you only need to look at the column " runes per hp"

after i saw the table ..this in pratice means zero.

if you encountered whatever field boss..you do it

you lose much time ignoring it just because it is not efficient.

even the frosbite ruins since it appears to be most efficient is useless because no way you are going to make it a priority

13 upvotes on reddit
CafeDeAurora · 1 month ago

No one said you should ignore the less efficient ones. This is just some factual data to do with as you see fit.

I for one appreciate knowing an estimate of what to expect if I’m planning on hitting X or Y boss on a given path. At least when you spot them from a distance but don’t plan to fight them right away, this might influence if I prioritize them or not.

Drop the night bosses, rune efficiency doesn't really matter for enemies that you have no choice in fighting.

Otherwise, group by location: field boss, castle top, castle basement, etc

Could be helpful if easier to quickly parse!

The Rotten, since a bonfire is right beside the boss and you can easily use bonfire ascetics to farm. It's also the one of the only bosses that are accessible without fighting other bosses on new game plus.

1 upvotes on reddit
Functional_Mode · 2 months ago

This one is pretty good, I will agree. It will give you a large amount of souls every time, only having to beat 1 enemy which is the boss of the area. Be warned though after ng+1 it can get really hard to beat him without getting pretty sweaty.

First, u/BIobertson asks a reasonable question. DS2 is an unusual game in the sense that a few levels make very little difference. DS2 is never like (for instance) the early part of Elden Ring (which can definitely be overpowered with stats)

That said, if you want a farming spot that offers a decent rate of return:

a) Purchase Soul Appease

b) Infuse the Priest's Chime with Lightning and upgrade it to +6

c) Respec do that you can cast Soul Appease

d) Join the Company of Champions (don't forget to quit when you're done. This is literal hard mode)

d) Use a bunch of ascetics in Straid's Cell.

The idea is simple. Walk to the middle of the room (Soul Appease projects a circle that does tremendous damage to hollow and nothing to others, so it won't affect Straid.

You can easily get 2 million souls an hour (once you get the positioning down you can clear the room several times a minute) on NG+7

I suggest this because while the Rotten gives better return per ascetic, if you're struggling with Giant Lord, Rotten on higher NG settings won't be a lock. And you're limited by the number of ascetics you have. Straid's Cell doesn't require an ascetic for every run.

Totally safe as you won't aggro the exploders or hurt Straid. Stand up, walk a few steps, blast, rest. repeat.

Side bonus: A decent collection of Alluring Skulls.

Drakenile · 2 months ago
  1. Watch a video how to beat him with spells. This pretty much trivializes the fight as you only need to slowly walk 1 direction or the other.

  2. You can try to beat rotten as he is the second best farm. However he's also probably a harder challenge high ng+ cycle and doesn't provide free bonfire Ascetics.

  3. You can farm the blue sword mage guys [drops the sword catalyst] right before the fight with Vendrick.

    A. Kill the 3 hollow that will keep ringing the bell as well as the syan knights and dragonrider

    B. Kill the mage guys. Ring bell. Repeat infinitely with no reason to rest at a bonfire or burn ascetics. You get decent souls and useful drops.

Boss count for shadow of the erdtree dlc

Posted by godlovesapples · in r/Eldenring · 1 year ago

So in an interview Miyazaki stated there will be over 10 new boss fights for the dlc. Am I the only one slightly worried about this number? Considering the base game had over 100 boss fights 10 seems really low for the 40 price tag. I’m hoping it’s 10 remembrance level bosses that we are getting.

This number doesn't include field and dungeon bosses i am sure of it. He also said the map will be much more packed with stuff and bigger than limgrave. Limgrave alone has way more bosses than 10. So it wouldn't really make sense if the DLC only has 10 bosses. It probably has 10 main bosses and a bunch of other bosses.

well on the trailer we see minimum 4 new large bosses, also maybe some hidden final boss (from never show the final boss on his trailers so maybe Messmer isn't the final boss of the dlc, malenia was the main boss of promotions and trailers and on the final game she was a optional boss, very important to lore but not the final boss of the game) also we see like 2 or maybe 3 small bosses (the spikes hypo and the skeleton on a horse). Maybe those are the ones that are used for small dungeons, caves and mines (if there are on the dlc) and the legacy dungeons have large bosses on it. Idk only a theory.

I use the interactive maps online and filter for bosses to find them which works well if you can remember who you have/haven't beat.

I was at the Snowfields and looked and realized I missed some back in Limgrave. Went back and had a good chuckle

Shadow of Erdtree bosses.. 10 main bosses or 10 bosses including mini bosses?

Posted by No_Spite_6630 · in r/Eldenring · 1 year ago

I’m really hoping it’s 10 main bosses as that would be amazing. Mini bosses were everywhere in Elden ring so I fear we would only get maybe 3-4 tops main bosses like some other souls games dlc’s which was totally fine for those games. This is Elden ring dlc though so I’m expecting it to be a bit chunkier in terms of boss size as it’s $40 and a rather large expansion with 40-50 hours of gameplay if I’m not mistaken. Can anyone clarify? I try to avoid looking up spoilers but this is one I don’t mind spoiling.

If I remember right, it's 10 unique bosses but not all of them are mandatory to finish the DLC but also there are some mini bosses.

Yeah, Miyazaki said in an interview a while back that there would be a few that would be optional/secret bosses.

There are ten remembrance bosses. For comparison there are 15 remembrance bosses in the base game.

There will also be numerous others, just like the base game. It’s not currently confirmed how many.

Wow! That’s awesome. I’ve avoided all possible spoilers for this other than the ten boss thing so this is awesome to hear. I honestly can’t wait.

I’ve heard some say ten and others say “at least ten” so we will have to see!

I think I remember Miyazaki said in an interview that there would be 10 new remembrance bosses, and one or two optional bosses as difficult as Melania.

Also, I think Bandai Namco also told people at the preview event that there would be 10 remembrance bosses as well.

Main bosses. People who played the first section of the DLC said they vs’d 6-7 bosses. So unless the entire DLC is like 5 hours long, that number is for main bosses.

Best bosses to farm in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Key Considerations for Farming Bosses in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

  1. Boss Drops: Focus on bosses that provide valuable items, runes, or crafting materials. Some bosses drop unique weapons or spells that can enhance your build.

  2. Difficulty Level: Choose bosses that you can defeat consistently. Farming should be efficient, so select those that you can handle without excessive time investment.

  3. Location Accessibility: Consider the ease of reaching the boss. Some bosses are located in areas that require extensive traversal, while others are more accessible.

  4. Respawn Mechanics: Ensure the bosses you choose can be respawned easily. Most bosses can be respawned by resting at a Site of Grace.

  5. Co-op Opportunities: Some bosses are easier to farm with friends or through summoning. Look for bosses that have co-op options to speed up the process.

Recommended Bosses to Farm:

  1. Starscourge Radahn:

    • Drops: Great Runes and unique weapons.
    • Accessibility: The festival summons players, making it easier to defeat.
  2. Malenia, Blade of Miquella:

    • Drops: Valuable items and runes.
    • Difficulty: High, but rewarding for experienced players.
  3. Godfrey, First Elden Lord:

    • Drops: Great Runes and powerful weapons.
    • Accessibility: Located in Leyndell, easy to reach once unlocked.
  4. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon:

    • Drops: Larval Tears and unique spells.
    • Respawn: Can be farmed repeatedly for respecs and crafting materials.
  5. Dragonlord Placidusax:

    • Drops: High runes and unique dragon-related items.
    • Difficulty: Challenging but rewarding for experienced players.

Recommendation: Start with easier bosses like Rennala and Radahn to build up your runes and gear before tackling more challenging ones like Malenia. This approach will help you gather resources and improve your character's strength for tougher encounters.
