Hey San Antonio, I need your opinion! What is the best burger you've had here in San Antonio? Anything from fast food to high-end is worthy of a mention.
My brother and I will be doing a one day tasting of whatever burgers receive the best recommendations. Any advice shared is greatly appreciated =)
to get you started.
Burger Boy was one the top 3 recommendations we got. It didn’t look as appetizing as the others, but it was damn good.
Longhorn cafe
Their chili cheeseburgers are insanely good.
I am partial to Armadillos.
Chester’s is pretty great.
Fat boys on Vance Jackson is pretty dank
I love me some bomb ass burgers! Im in search of some of the best burgers here in San Antonio. I tried Chester's because it's the "best burger in SA" and honestly it was not for me. I tried Frontier Burger and it's great! What are some others I could try?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: Thank you all for your feedback! I have a list made and have tally marked the ones mentioned most often. Kinda wanna start from the least mentioned to the most mentioned to "build up". Appreciate it!
Mad Mack's is one of my favorites in town. I haven't seen how they are doing since the pandemic started however.
I’m looking for the BEST burger in San Antonio & I will stop at nothing until I find it! For me, a smash burger is just about perfection - but where do I go for it? I’ve been LOVING “The Yard @ 1224” (I live out west) but I want some other places to compare. Hit me with your best shot!? 🍔
Mr Juicy for me. Still have to try Last Place Burgers. Long time ago I heard Lords Kitchen made a really good burger. I thought they were no longer around but I just saw a commercial.
Lords kitchen is pretty good but not a smash burger. Just a burger. I think the vibe of the place is the real selling point. The owner was also the cook, he brought our food out to us and kept coming to check on us and had a lot of great stories. Really nice dude!
Idk when I went there it was pretty weird and had a weird vibe. The burger itself wasn’t much special. It was good though.
Their burger is too juicy (like actually buttery somehow) for me but I like their milkshakes
Burgers are way too subjective to narrow down the “best” but I would start with Best Burger on Pleasanton Rd south of SW Military. Old school hole in the wall that does a good pepper seasoned burger. Bring cash. Mark’s Outing on E Commerce is one of my favorites too.
For me it's the burgers from B&B Smokehouse, also on Pleasanton south of Military. Not smashburgers, but just excellent grilled burgers.
Came to say this. On a good day one can be completely satisfied at Freddys.
Tycoon Flats on St Mary’s st has the best selection of flavor profiles. Also a cool outdoor bar.
Not many Smash Burger style places in San Antonio.
Best Burger always got rave reviews when I was younger (and was one of the only decent non-national-chain ones in the neighborhood), but I never thought they were very special. I'm a bit partial to the Longhorn Cafe these days.
Last Place Burgers at Roadmap Brewing.
Came to say this. Last Place has the best smash burger. Just had one last Saturday.
They also opened a spot at Picks Bar on 1604.
I live close to the 1604 one so I gotta check it out. Which burger do you recommend from there?
I agree. It is a truly delicious burger.
Hello all! I’m new to the area from a little town called Ramsbottom England. I love the city but I need to know where I can get my hands on the best burger in town. I live on the north east side of town, and am excited to try, everything. Thanks in advance!
The Cove near downtown - they also have healthy-ish options. Great back patio and family friendly.
Mr. Juicy, as may here have mentioned.
Cheesy Jane's - so many options to choose from.
Still have yet to try Chris Madrid's.
Burger Boy is a local favorite, it's a really good fast food burger joint with a drive thru. Their shakes are awesome too. Other great dine in/takeout options include Diana's, Griff's, and Fattboy burgers.
I’ve had burger boy! Very decent but looking more for a sit down burger place than a fast food joint!
Last Place Burger is one of the best burgers in the city! It's also one of the best burgers I've ever had. They are a food truck at Roadmap Brewing Co.
I second this message!! Thats a gourmet burger that is a fuckin delight!!
Diana’s burgers are dirty greasy goodness
Maybe it's nostalgia, but I really do like Chester's. Diana's and Chris Madrid's are good too.
Yup! Came here to say Chester's! So good!
This is the way. And their o rings are great!
Diana’s > Chris Madrid’s
Chester’s. Although I like the one by Randolph the best.
Does anyone know a good hole in the wall burger spot. Where do you have to go for a good hamburger special ?
While I was going to trainings, I made a point to go to a different burger spot every day for lunch.
The best one I found, by far, was Big Bobs Burgers on Hildebrand.
Biff Buzbys, Chris Madrids, and Mr. Juicy are all great, but I recently tried Papa's burgers on San Pedro, and for me, that burger is hands down the best (that I've tried so far.) I think mainly since they use those potato bread buns, toasted on the burgers that give it a that little extra.
Papa’s burgers is the exact definition of great hole in the wall place. It’s in an old run down gas station building and cash only. But yes, OP, this wins the thread for me. I also like Chris Madrids and Biff Buzbys, but papa’s is one of San Antonio’s hidden gems.
Papa's burgers for the definite hole-in-the-wall and a really good burger.
Burger boy. Burger, Fries plus drink around $6
I had a bad experience with Burger Boy off Potranco. Really bland burger; probably the worst hamburger I’ve ever eaten in San Antonio. Had one at N St. Mary’s and it was awesome prior, so the ‘newer’ Burger Boy was a huge disappointment. I see they are putting one in on Bitters. Hopefully it’s better like the OG location that probably has a well seasoned grill. I dunno, maybe the cook that day didn’t season the patties.
Chester’s will always be my favorite though.
Tried Chester's, burger was bland
Oh no. I do always go to the one on St Mary’s. My coworker goes to both St Mary’s and Potranco and hasn’t mentioned a difference.
My complaint about BB is always the same; their large fries are no bigger than their small.
Best in town imo, new one opening on Bitters soon!
Bobby Js
I love Bobby js. Belinda always makes you feel welcome.
If you enjoyed Chris Madrids from the 90s and early 2000s. Then you will love Diane's burgers on zarzamora !
This place is San Antonio at its best! You really feel the love when you walk in and greated by Diane herself!
Same here! The long wait and shitty fries were a disappointment.
Burger Boy is great!
I agree. Don’t get me wrong. The craft burger joints are good, but this is by far the best burger and at a great price. No frills, just good eats.
Burger boy is terrible!
Last Place Burgers
I second this, my fav burger in town!
Tried this place out today based on this recommendation - Can confirm, best burgers in town! Also, first time at Jefferson Bodega, and loved it.
They don't have a brick and mortar place. Look them up on Instagram to find where they are serving. It's definitely worth it
Longhorn cafe
They’re the new resident food truck at roadmap brewing; they’re at Jefferson bodega tomorrow, sometimes at Tony’s siesta. You have to follow the OG for info on locations
The Big Juicy!
I'm trying to up my burger game and need recommendations.
Burger Boy and Chris Madrid's.
Burger Boy is a true, delicious burger
I've actually been to Chris Madrid's and it was really good.
cheddar is blasphemous on a hamburger.
mr juicy is good and babes is my favorite
I love thier archenemy, Longhorn. Still have yet to try Mr. Juicy
Pre-covid Chunkys was great. But dealing with them after covid has been extremely frustrating every time.
Their burgers are great, itd be awesome if they could figure their shit out.
Is it super busy there or what do they do? I've never been but seen here that this place is good
Their curbside is massively lacking. The last 4 times Ive gone I had the exact same shitty experience with wait times over an hour of what I was told. Only to then receive a gross, cold, soggy hamburger and fries. I dont say 4 to be hyperbolic--it was deja vu each time.
Which is disappointing. Their food used to be so consistently good. However it seems like they haven't figured out how to design a good curbside system maybe? They also were frequently out of items for their signature burgers. They didnt have refried beans for their bean burgers for a long time is one I remember. Which seems silly--how do you run out of refried beans in SA? Also theres a Mexican restaurant nextdoor? Anyway thats just me being petty.
Chunkys is good. Im sure covid has hit them hard. But their inability to provide good food in a safe way (like curbside) has prevented me from ordering there as of late.
Burger Boy.
I found The Good News Burgers on 36th and Castrovill Road when I was looking for a lunch spot at my new work. I'm glad I went. My go to is their #6: "El Caliente" Burger 1/3 lb. Fresh Grilled Patty, Pepper Jack Cheese, Grilled Jalapenos, Grilled Onions, Green Leaf Lettuce, Sliced Tomatoes, and Pickles
Babes old fashioned burger! They have good shakes too
This is what I was going to say!! Omg I love their burgers, FF and onion rings!!
I second this, great spot, and solid burgers.
Yes it was very good. Just for lunch a burger, fries and soda were like $17. I know they probably had quality ingredients but that price point won’t be successful especially in a recession.
I only been there twice about two decades ago. I recall going to two different locations. The last one I went to was the West Ave store. Went with a friend of mine and ordered a typical burger fries drink combo. The day we went, the store ac was out and it was hot hot hot inside there. The cook looked miserable dealing with it, we were dripping sweat off our foreheads and down our chins, mature flies were also buzzing about the store. I've worked in kitchens before and worked in places that had no ac or horrendous ventilation. So we toughed it out and ate at our table. The guy kept looking at us like we were nuts to eat inside when it was cooler at 98 outside. I'll have to give this place another try in the year 2023.
Longhorn Cafe on Blanco
We like both, Blanco and Nacogdoches locations. The longhorn cafe on Nacogdoches has the same great food, my opinion friendlier staff. The vibe is great in the original Blanco location.
The Longhorn on Hausman definitely has the same amazing burgers!
The Longhorn on Hausman definitely has the same amazing burgers!
I was so happy when i finally tried the burgers on Naco and found out they had the exact same taste as the original location. Major kudos to longhorn for the consistency across multiple stores.
They have good burgers
I've tried them before, and honestly I think they're overrated. Very basic burgers and the fries aren't that good either.
YO FAM, LET ME PUT YOU ON TO THE MOST FIRE SPOT ON NW MILITARY! 🔥
LISTEN UP! Since day ONE when they opened their doors, I've been LIVING for this joint! EVERYTHING - and I mean EVERYTHING - coming out that kitchen is STRAIGHT FLAMES!
BUT CHECK THIS OUT THO - when the owner/chef is in the building, they're dropping this LEGENDARY chicken fried steak sandwich that'll have you seeing stars! And these burgers? BRUH. We're talking NEXT LEVEL, mind-blowing, can't-stop-thinking-about-it delicious!
And here's the crazy part - you can grab that double burger combo WITH DRINKS for about 10 bucks! I'M NOT PLAYING! My whole family - all three of us - ate like KINGS for under 30 dollars! That's that REAL DEAL VALUE right there!
DON'T SLEEP ON THIS SPOT! Your taste buds will thank me later! 💯
I was one to really give MR juicy a good review but today I stopped by and ordered a double combo and I noticed while eating that it tasted somewhat similar to something in the past.
Old school lunch burger meat, Yes mr juicy added seasoning but honestly once I noticed that I couldn't get that out of my mind.
That’s crazy.
Fr ruined the whole vibe
Somebody has never hears of P.terrys. combo meal - fresh meat, fresh fries, and a drink for 8.
And this is why backs stay big😂
Bring back moshes
FATBURGER is better.
I've been on a 2 year weight loss journey and am so close to reaching goal. I want to celebrate with a big juicy beautiful burger. Like one of the best in SA or surrounding area. Preferably where they even make their own buns. Any recommendations? Thanks
Diana’s Burgers (N Zarzamora)
Chris Madrid’s (Blanco Rd)
Chester’s (410 and Naco) Best onion rings in SA. Fight me
Mr. Juicy (San Pedro)
Benji’s Munch (Bitters Rd)
Gino’s Deli (Huebner)
Side-note about Diana’s: she’s an OG from Chris Madrid’s. When Chris passed away and the Madrid family sold, she left and started her own restaurant. The menu is nearly identical to Chris Madrid’s but tastes considerably better.
Yo if you mention gino's. It better be for the Philly cheese steak. I have literally been eating that since 2001
Had the philly cheesesteak and was not impressed. For ~$20, including a drink, I could get a better philly cheesesteak somewhere else (Max & Louie's).
Not this place, I ordered a chicken sandwich and the cook came out and tried to tell me a turkey patty was chicken and I said”dawg you’re a cook, you know that ain’t chicken”
Sorry you had a bad experience, but their burgers are still great and I’ve been multiple times without a hint of issues. Great place, great service, great burgers.
Dude looked dumb
Please don’t go to marks outing, service is terrible
Idk how they even got popular, burgers are mid
Second on pumpers. Pretty freakin good
chesters
Agreed. Pumpers is the best burger I've had in San Antonio EVER. Please try them out I promise you won't be disappointed. :>
It’s okay. Beats the hell out of Mr. juicy, though.
