TL;DR
Breville Models
Breville toaster ovens are frequently mentioned as top choices due to their durability and functionality. The Breville BOV800XL and the Smart Oven Pro (BOV845BSS) are popular for their large capacity and versatility [5:5]. Although some users noted issues like a high-pitched buzzing sound in certain models
[4], overall, Breville ovens are considered reliable with good customer service support
[2:2].
Cosori Convection Oven
The Cosori CO130-AO convection toaster oven is another favorite among users. It offers a range of cooking functions and is known for its reliability and ease of use [1:1]
[4:2]. This model also includes modern features like Alexa compatibility, making it convenient for tech-savvy users
[3:6].
Cuisinart Options
Cuisinart toaster ovens are praised for their solid build quality and efficient cooking capabilities. Models such as the TOB-200 and air fryer/toaster combos are well-regarded [2:1]
[4:1]. While they may require more counter space and careful handling due to heat dissipation, their performance makes them a worthwhile investment
[3:2].
Budget-Friendly Alternatives
For those seeking budget-friendly options, brands like Hamilton Beach and Oster offer affordable yet effective toaster ovens [5:3]
[5:4]. These models provide good value for money and can accommodate larger pans, making them suitable for households needing extra cooking space.
Considerations Beyond the Discussions
When choosing a convection toaster oven, consider factors such as size, cooking functions, ease of cleaning, and additional features like air frying capabilities. It's also important to assess your kitchen space and specific cooking needs to ensure you select an oven that fits both your budget and lifestyle.
I’m looking for a new toaster oven to replace my old one that broke down. I want something that can toast, bake, broil, and roast with ease and efficiency. I also want something that is easy to clean, has a large capacity, and has a sleek design. What are some of the best toaster ovens in 2023 that meet these criteria? Please share your recommendations and experiences. Thanks!
I would recommend the KitchenAid KCO211BM. It’s a great toaster oven that can toast, bake, broil, and warm up your food. It has a large capacity, a digital display, and a non-stick interior. It also comes with a baking pan and a rack. It’s easy to use and clean, and it looks nice on the countertop. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s worth it if you want a quality toaster oven that can handle any task.
Depends on how much you are willing to spend, but the best for the price is the newest Cosori toaster oven. This guide has the specific model and info on its features
I own this Breville one and it's absolutely fantastic. Works really great, sleek looking, and great for the price.
Very happy with mine!
Snagged the cheap Black + Decker on sale and it works way better than I expected. More than enough for my needs
Cosori CO130-AO Convection Toaster Oven: see the tested and reviewed article.
Looking for BIFL-level build quality, preferably with two racks.
Yes I have the Breville smart oven - the larger more expensive one. I love it! Very versatile and yields excellent results.
Same. We don't use the actual oven very often because the Breville is big enough for most stuff we cook. This is the second unit I've owned. After 6 years the first one started crapping out. For about half the cost of a new unit, Breville will repair or replace an old one. Mine was in bad shape, they sent me a new one. Which is how Dyson handles repairs/replacements on vacuum cleaners. I have realized I am in slow-motion subscription programs for toasters and vacuum cleaners.
Another vote for the Breville. We use ours all the time.
Seconded. Have beaten the shit out of one daily in a pro kitchen. Solid machine.
Fourthed. Note, that my oven came with only one rack. This is what you need from Breville: https://www.breville.com/us/en/parts-accessories/parts/sp0002651.html
Order the rack from Breville as it is crazy expensive elsewhere, but only $11.47 (US) when ordering directly.
Thirded I use my breville smart oven all the time it’s super
This is the only correct answer. All other toasters are inferior.
Do you ever use it with two racks, or does that cut down on the heat distribution too much?
This and the other comments pretty much have me sold. Thanks for all the input.
I have an early model Cuisinart that I got at a garage sale for $20. I've had it for about five years and I absolutely love it.
Lurks in mechanicum
Yes, I have a Cuisinart and Love it to death cook the hell out of it I don't use my big oven much anymore. LOL! but it is a small one. 1 rack
this is the one I have

So, I’m a student, but cooking is my passion. I’m about to move to a new apartment and there’s no oven in there which kills me but it gives me a chance to try out one of these cool counter top convection ovens that do everything and more! I’ve skimmed the posts here and see that everybody swears by the Breville one and honestly I’m pretty impressed with the functions as far as I can see, but it’s incredibly expensive so I’m hoping if anyone knows of another that is something close to the idea of the breville but for less money? Thank you very much!
Cuisinart has a toaster oven/air fryer that I love so much I got one for my in laws. Here’s the model , if you keep your eye out you can get it for around $180.
I've been using my Cuisinart almost daily for a few years. It's been really great.
Two caveats for OP, this thing is HUGE so make sure you can spare the counter space for the footprint AND space around it to dissipate the heat (I even keep mine sitting on an old marble slab), also the rack, pan, and basket are NOT dishwasher safe, which is a PITA.
Soon after I bought my Cuisinart, Ninja came out with an air fryer/toaster oven that flips up out of the way when not in use, plus the racks, etc ARE dishwasher safe. Like most Ninja products, never pay regular price because you'll find sales on it fairly often.
I have a Cuisinart and it does the trick
I told myself I'd upgrade to the Breville if i used it all the time and really, i don't.
It's great for 1-2 ppl. Just be careful it's easy to burn stuff lol it gets hotter than expected.
The Kalorik MAXX AFO 50967 SS has served me well and is a great value in terms of quality and price. I got mine at Walmart but I think Amazon has it too. I picked it up on sale for $100 here in Canada.
Amazing! I was just looking at that one as well! I’m a bit worried it gets too hot though, have you had any issues with that?
I just had a thought, I listed all that I like but not what I don't. It's not a deal breaker but it's worth mentioning that the beep it makes while using the controls, opening the doors while it's running, and at the end of the cycle (all the same) is quite loud. I really wish companies would offer a mute button on these, and microwaves. Also the double door design means that the doors open wider than the unit, and therefore requires a little more space than it's footprint.
Nothing that would stop me from recommending it or buying it again, I just thought you should know.
No issues and honestly it gets less hot on the outside than a regular toaster oven, especially on top. Good features easy controls good quality trays. One hint is that I find it makes better toast on the roast setting than the toast setting. Warm is great for reheating, and will take a bagel from frozen to just out of the oven fresh without drying it out in six minutes. It a good size without taking up too much counter space with the top controls.
The Corsori is one of the better ones, and I got mine for $130. It is even alexa enabled, which allows you to preheat from anywhere in the world.
Cons: -The fan turning on can blow the cheese off of your sandwich if you don't smash it into your bread or use something to adhere it. -You have to shake the basket when it instructs you -The temp setting goes only up to 400, and in 10 degree increments (No 375 setting)
Pros
Side Notes
If you want to buy cheap , it might not last long. A wise decision could be to spend a bit more and buy a quality air fryer so that it can last a for a good period of time and eventually your cost will be automatically recovered if you could found a good one as it will save you from repair and maintenance.
I’m looking for an air fryer oven, not just an air fryer, so I can use it for multiple purposes. I don’t have a budget but over 400€ is way too much. So any suggestion fairly lower is what I’m looking for. I’d be happy to buy a quality air fryer convention oven later on when I can afford it, but right now, this is what I’m looking for 🤷🏾♀️ if you have suggestions for that I’d be happy to check it out
You can have the best or the cheapest but not both.
I need help deciding.
I don't have a big kitchen but I'm only one person in a apartment.
I've been looking at all the reviews and I thought I was decided on the Breville BOV860. But then I started reading a little further into the reviews and apparently there's some sort of high pitch buzzing sound. I just know that's going to get on my nerves so I don't want to get it now.
I have $193 in Amazon gift card money that I can use. Money wasn't really a factor anyway but I don't want to spend too much but I will if it's the right one or the absolute top of the line oven.
I like cooking cornish hens and sometimes I'll get a frozen pizza. Other than toast those are probably the two things I'll use it the most for.
Which one do you all recommend?
Speaking from my experience, the Cosori CO130-AO Convection Toaster Oven excellent for roasting and baking, including Cornish hens and pizzas. It's known for its reliability and durability. (tested video here)
Ninja Foodi XL Pro: It's got great capacity and performs well for both air frying and traditional toaster oven functions.
Instant Omni Plus Air Fryer Toaster Oven: Versatile with multiple functions, including rotisserie for Cornish hens.
These options should fit within your budget and provide excellent performance for your cooking needs without the buzzing issue you were concerned about with the Breville model.
I'd avoid recommending instant's Omni -- I had Omni pro and its touch screen completely died just after the warranty period ended and the whole thing is touch, no manual function. The plus is still digital as well to some degree so I wouldn't bank on quality there either. The customer support is downright laughable. Very expensive non-fixable junk. It's a common complaint if you look it up. Avoid instant.
I love my Cuisinart airfryer/toaster combo. Perfect appliance.
Which one specifically do you have?
As someone who's been using an air fryer for 6 years, you gotta check out my article: Best 7 Air Fryers Toaster Oven Combo. I've rounded up what most folks are looking for, so you're bound to find the air fryer you'll love!
Check out the Breville Air Fryer Pro.
I have a Breville and I can tell you for sure the air fryer mode aka super convection is not as good as a true air fryer. For one person, I'd recommend the air fryer over the toaster oven with air fry mode unless you really want or need a mini oven for stuff like bread or baking stuff.
You can cook a Cornish hen in a air fryer no problem. For frozen pizza, consider using a fry pan with lid or you can cut up the pizza to fit in there.
I've been searching for quite some time for a good toaster oven and I've found 3 models come up pretty consistently but coverage and comparisons online seem very lacking.
Breville BOV800XL Oster XL Digital Convection Oven w/ French Doors Ninja® Foodi™ 10-in-1 XL Pro Air Fry Oven, Large Countertop Convection Oven
Some have an air fryer, some don't. It'd be nice but I don't care about it all that much. Bigger is better but not at the expense of quality. Breville does make a model with an air sryer but it's crazy expensive and I'm at the end of my rope with this toaster oven thing so I'd appreciate genuine knowledge on the subject.
https://www.amazon.com/Breville-BOV450XL-Mini-Smart-Element/dp/B006CVVA7I
I've got the Breville BOV450XL and I love it.
It's been about 8 years now and it's still going strong. The start button occasionally changes the temperature from F to C instead of starting, but that's a very recent development. Even if that ends up killing the machine, that's lasted about 7 years longer than any other toaster oven I've owned.
It browns toast beautifully and does a great job as a small oven as well.
I haven't used that Oster, nor any in the past 8 years, but I had one before my Breville and it broke after a few months. It had good ratings on Amazon, so I might have just been unlucky.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D1KQ9HF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_N1SKFb1H7RZJV
I have the previous model of this Hamilton beach and have no complaints so far. Been in use for about 3 years. Feel free to ask me any questions.
I appreciate it but it seems smaller than what I'm looking for. Buying this for the whole house and size has been a factor.
I have the Oster you listed, got it from Costco for 99$ in stainless steel and its onsale there for 99$ now aswell. Works really well I think and I am quite happy with the extra space for real pans to fit it.
How long have you had it? Have you had anything else before?
I've had it for about 8 months. Before it i had a small black and decker one that was gifted to me 2 years prior. This one is far better
Update: I discovered the Breville has a better model called the Smart Oven Pro (BOV845BSS) and went with that after getting a lot of responses and tracking the upvotes. I figure I get this, I'll be good for a while so I'll spend the little extra money. Thanks to you all!
I’ve had this one for two years and I’m really happy with it. Though I’ve only ever used it for baking, so I haven’t really put it through its paces, but it bakes as well as a conventional oven
I have this one and regret nothing: https://smile.amazon.com/Breville-BOV900BSS-Convection-Brushed-Stainless/dp/B01N5UPTZS
The only small downside is that it's not the greatest at making toast (ironic, I know) but I'm not a big toast eater so it's nbd.
I was considering that one but it's more money, only slightly larger and I really never air fry. I got the one step down model instead.
I got this on sale for like 20% off. The air fryer part doesn't get used much, but I love it just the same.
The 800 is also a bit bigger, it looks like! I just wanted something about the size of the Black and Deckers that I'd been throwing away for a decade. Lol
I’ve spent a few hours reading reviews and it seems like if such device isn’t $500+ you can count on glass shattering, dials not working, uneven cooking or burnt food, total breakdown right after the warranty expires… like do they all suck?
I’m returning an air fryer because the chemical smell is overwhelming (four extenda-washes in a Bosch and every time the kitchen reeked when I opened the door…). Too many plastics in there for me to feel good about it.
Do need low fat cooking for health reasons.
Edit: also looking for something completely PFAS free. Stainless steel or bust
The Cuisinart air fryer toaster ovens are the cats pajamas. It fits a whole frozen pizza, and the air frying is top notch. It stays relatively clean, and I just wrap foil around the drip tray to make it easier. It has a low temp setting for warming or things like dried fruits, and it gets up to 450 degrees very rapidly if needed. I hardly use the regular oven unless I’m using a pot that is to big to fit. The air fryer works just as well as the container style, and the “fryer” basket works really well even without flipping or shaking the food while cooking. It takes slightly longer than a toaster to toast things, but it does a really consistent job using the toast setting. I’ve recommended this to friends and family because it’s big enough to get a ton of cooking done while also not taking up ridiculous amounts of counter space, and sometimes replace 2-3 appliances while matching or exceeding the cooking applications. I have the Screen version with the dial, but the analog gauge style does the same stuff and as I understand is the same size.
Thanks for this comprehensive comment, it’s appreciated! I was looking at cuisinarts - the sticking point for me is there apparently is a nonstick coating on the interior, I am wanting to avoid that :/
Mine is stainless on the interior.
I bought this on a recommendation from my SIL and I loved it for about 2 years, until the dial went caput and I could only toast. I tried to get it fixed and the guy said he's tried to fix the same problem for others in the past, and because it's a proprietary technology, it's never worked right. My SILs unit went about 6 months later.
I use it so often that 2 years of solid use would be worth the cost for me. However, knock on wood the dial does seem to be the weak link in the design.
Ed:sp
Oh good! What do you recommend?
Just got a fabuletta toaster oven / air frier and love it
I got my Cuisinart toaster oven for around $200 and it's a beast. I roast chicken and air fry fries a few times a week with it. Manufacturing errors can occur in any appliance so I guess the reviews you read were just from bad luck.
I have a Ninja toaster oven style one that I really like. I think it does a good job. We mostly use it for cooking things like pork chops or chicken cutlets or roasting vegetables. I like how it fits more food than the basket style ones and has no plastic.
Did you ever find one free of PFAS?
Well I’m not sure anything is ever guaranteed. I got a Green Pan (ceramic) and an air fryer. I hate cooking with the green pan but I might be doing something wrong.
What do you hate about the green pan?
Which air fryer did you get?
Title pretty much says all. I am debating between Cuisinart Chef's Convection countertop vs. Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro. The one I am trying out now only holds 4 slices of bread comfortably and I'd rather have more space (but not have/use my big oven).
I have a black and decker 6 slice toaster oven w convection and i love it
We have had a Breville countertop convection Smart Oven for over a decade. We love it. No failures, and we use it several times a week at least. I can't attest to the air-fryer capabilities, but I can attest to the heating, broiling, baking / convection baking of it, and the general handiness of having a small oven when you only need to bake, broil, or reheat a smaller amount of food (super handy as a second small oven during the holidays too, when the stove is all tied up!). If it died today I would replace it immediately with the same thing (or maybe even the air fryer version that has a dehydration setting because that sounds very handy!)
Anova Precision Oven
I really want this but it's big and then you have the issue with the steam vents you don't want to put that under a cabinet.
I'm waiting for the second generation.
Yeah, I was kind of on the fence and not really sure where I'd put it but then my microwave decided to try to set itself on fire so suddenly I had some counterspace.
I have this one and have had it for 6, 7, or 8 years I forget. but Love this guy! still going strong too. it's a 6 slice, and I use it all the time Much more than my big oven.
https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-TOB-200N-Rotisserie-Convection-Stainless/dp/B06WLHXYQL/
sorry about the hot link but I can't remove the extension if I don't do it this way.
I'm looking to add another convection oven to the arsenal in our catering kitchen. Ideally it will be double-stacked. We will use it for general roasting, baking and braising etc, as well as pastry.
I kind of have my eye on a Blodgett right now, but wanted to see if you guys had any strong opinions in favor of or against them. Are there any other brands I should seriously consider? I'd like to stay under $12k if possible.
If you just need an oven, go for the Blodgett. Every commercial food mechanic carries parts on their truck for them.
I see someone mentioned a Rational. They are great combis, but the I’m not thrilled with their new Icombi line. They can also be finniky and need regular specialized maintenance.
I just listened to a podcast with a baker/bagel maker. His older Rationals have no problems but the two he’s purchased in the past two years have had numerous issues requiring warranty work.
you can get a fine oven for 12k but not the best by any means, still you could get a decent Vulcan.
they do make electric too if that's what you need.
nothing wrong with Bloggett either tho.
I don't make the decision but our CDC ADORES Rational ovens. We have two units stacked about 5.5ft high in total and use them for 90% of oven interaction on our menu from prep to service.
He tells me since they are the smaller unit they cost us 10k a piece, bigger one costs 20k.
Blodgett or Southbend
Moffat turbofan
title says it all. We've been through a number of last few years. can never seem to hold an even toast.
thanks in advance for any recommendations.
Have had two Dualit toasters over the past twenty years. One is twenty years old (wife got in divorce), other is ten years. We bought both refurbished off EBay as well.
I bought a dualit based on these sorts of testimonials and it’s useless. Only toasts one side. Took it back for a replacement and the same thing.
Called dualit and the woman on the phone said to run the toaster for one minute before using it. Kind of defeats the point.
Which side of the bread did it toast?
Dualit. Designed to be repaired, I can't think of another toaster that is. In fact I'd say most others are designed to fail.
Breville BOV450XL Mini Smart Oven. Have had mine since 2014 & it’s still working brand new like the day when it was new. Expect to have this one for many years to come. Has lots of features. Highly recommend.
Whatever you choose, check to see if parts are available. I had a black and Decker toaster oven for 9 years (heavy use). A heating element (1/4) went out and I can't get a replacement. Btw, I think I might have broken it because I kept putting a pan of water at the bottom basically right on top of the heating elements. So it might have lasted longer.
Oster convection toaster oven. Larger on the counter but much handier. I used it 1-4x/day for over 10 years before giving it to a roommate before a move. Worked flawlessly. Wish I'd kept it.
Please advise. I've been searching for months for any convection toaster oven that is not made in China but have not been able to find one. Could it be that the only country that makes toaster oven is China??! If true, that's really a f##ked up world!
You may need to look into antique toasters or new old stock toasters. 99% chance you won't find a non chinese toaster, had the same issue. I was stupid and settled on a kitchen aid, I replaced a 7 dollar walmart toaster with it that lasted 6 years. Toast takes forever compared to the walmart toaster. Not impressed.
The Wolf toaster oven is made in Wisconsin: https://wolfgourmet.com/store/countertop-appliances/elite-countertop-oven
Pretty sure Wolf Gourmet products (which is licensed by Hamilton Beach) are made in China.
That is false. Customers on Amazon have stated that they found stickers that stated “Made in China” for this oven, despite Wolf customer service telling them they only used a few parts from China and assembled the ovens in America
Unfortunately that’s a pretty widespread industry secret. Many things that say made in USA are just assembled here.
wrong. made in china
Residential Wolf appliances are manufactured by the Wolf Appliance Company in Fitchburg, Wisconsin.
https://www.subzero-wolf.com/assistance/answers/wolf/common/who-makes-wolf-appliances
So you’re saying the company doesn’t know where their own products are made? Why should we believe you?
Jeff B can F off. Haven't used his company website in ages just to avoid all the made in China junk and fake reviews. Target or Walmart is my better options.
This is one of those things where you could maybe buy a used made in China one. If you did, the money wouldn’t be going to China.
Sure is!
Search for made in Taiwan and your problem will be solved!
Unless you think Taiwan is part of China that is.
You'll have to settle for assembled in Vietnam, parts made from China.
Can't get parts for old machines any more.
Seconded. A lot of more modern ones are designed to just be thrown away in a short time period to be replaced. You're better off getting an older model which was built to last, even if it is older and looks kinda rough. You could look on youtube for restoration videos, as I guarantee you aren't the only one looking for a toaster.
best convection toaster oven
Key Considerations for Choosing a Convection Toaster Oven:
Size and Capacity: Ensure the oven fits your kitchen space and can accommodate the types of dishes you plan to cook. Look for models that can fit a 9x13 inch pan or a whole chicken if needed.
Heating Elements: A good convection toaster oven should have multiple heating elements (top and bottom) for even cooking. Some models also feature a fan for better air circulation.
Temperature Range: Check for a wide temperature range (typically 150°F to 500°F) to allow for versatile cooking options, from baking to broiling.
Cooking Functions: Look for a variety of cooking settings such as bake, broil, toast, and convection. Some models may also include air fry or rotisserie functions.
Ease of Cleaning: A removable crumb tray and non-stick interior can make cleaning much easier. Some models also have a self-cleaning feature.
User-Friendly Controls: Consider models with intuitive controls, such as digital displays and easy-to-use knobs or buttons.
Recommendations:
Breville BOV900BSS Smart Oven Air: This model is highly rated for its versatility, offering 13 cooking functions, a large capacity, and excellent convection performance. It also features an LCD display and is easy to clean.
Cuisinart TOB-260N1 Chef's Convection Toaster Oven: This is a great mid-range option with 15 cooking functions, a spacious interior, and a dual cooking feature that allows you to use both convection and traditional heating.
Hamilton Beach 31103DA: If you're looking for a budget-friendly option, this model offers good performance with a decent capacity and multiple cooking functions at a lower price point.
Choosing the right convection toaster oven depends on your cooking needs and budget, but these options are well-regarded for their performance and features.
