TL;DR The Toshiba EM131A5C is highly recommended for its performance, simplicity, and value. Panasonic models with inverter technology are also praised for even cooking.
Toshiba Microwaves
The Toshiba EM131A5C model has been frequently recommended across discussions for its reliability and user-friendly features. Users appreciate its simple controls, quick buttons, and spacious interior [1:1]
[3:8]. It also looks elegant in the kitchen and provides consistent heating without cold spots
[1:2]
[4:1].
Panasonic Inverter Technology
Panasonic microwaves with inverter technology have been noted for their ability to cook food evenly. The inverter technology allows for more precise temperature control, making auto cook buttons more effective [1:5]. A specific model mentioned is the Panasonic NN-SN643SAZ, which offers 1250W of power and has received positive feedback for its preprogrammed features
[1:6]. However, some users have reported issues with Panasonic models, citing poor durability and performance
[3:5]
[3:6].
LG and Samsung Options
LG and Samsung microwaves also have their advocates. LG models, particularly those with a charcoal grill version, have been praised for sturdiness and longevity [2:5]. Samsung convection microwaves have been used successfully for many years, providing reliable service
[2:3].
Ease of Use and Advanced Features
For ease of use, microwaves with knobs rather than touch interfaces are preferred by some users [2:8]. Additionally, advanced features such as sensor cooking can enhance convenience and ensure consistent results
[4:1].
Considerations Beyond the Discussions
When choosing a microwave, consider factors such as wattage (1000-1200W is ideal), size (around 1-1.2 cubic feet), and price (typically around $100 for a good model) [1:6]. It's important to balance performance, ease of use, and advanced features to find the best model for your needs.
I need a new microwave. Anyone want to make some recommendations? Don't have a price range at the moment, just looking for something that is top quality.
Ok so I had to buy a microwave recently and done ton of research (and I mean TON, way too much) and finally decided on a Toshiba one (it's the number 2 on this list https://www.moneycaptain.com/best-microwaves/ ) and I love everything about it! just what I needed, it's simple and effective, got all the quick buttons that I like so you don't have to deal with anything complex, got plenty of space inside and it looks super elegant in my kitchen.
**(copy from another reply I wrote to another redditor with the same question)
When I check about a year and a half ago with the Reddit’s about microwaves, I was told Panasonic has some patent on “inverter technology”. Makes the auto cook buttons work better and cooks your food more evenly. We’d also been staying temporarily with someone that had a 300W microwave and I was so done with that. So I bought a 1250w Panasonic microwave at sams club.
And I’ll be dammed it really does cook food way more evenly!! And the automatic temp cook button thing is the first I’ve used that actually works!! It lets you adjust one tick hotter or colder for you food preferences too. Which is good because I don’t like super hot food.
So yeah, if it broke tomorrow I’d buy a new one. I freaking love that thing. I can find the model number if you want. But basically I’d say at least look for something with a 1000+watts and maybe look at a Panasonic with “inverter technology”
I would definitely be interested in that model number if you ever find it! I’ve never been so sold on a microwave.
agree
I’ve never had a microwave go bad I think they’re all fine
A good microwave should be about 1000-1200W (anything less than that will take forever to heat up food and do a poor job of it), 1-1.2 Cubic feet., and run about a hundred bucks. Here's a decent wirecutter article where they look at a number of models and features. I picked up a Panasonic NN-SN643SAZ 3 years ago for $106 and it's been amazing (feels like their preprogrammed features work really well also).
We got this Toshiba and it's definitely the best microwave we've had. Our last one was terrible so the bar was set quite low, but still. :P
Buying it for first time
LG Solo.
Won't apply if you're looking for one with a convection function.
Used Samsung 28L convection for close to 8 years, sold it for 4k, got a new Samsung for 8k. Samsung is superb!
Where did you sell it. I am also looking to sell my whirlpool microwave and get a new OTG
Within friends and family
My magicchef lasted for over twenty years.
I've been using lg for over a decade. Very sturdy and very good. Get the charcoal grill version
Buy the ones with knobs and not touch
Yeah I anyways like knobs. Got a keyboard with knob. Gimbal with knob Speaker with knob Mouse with knob Watch with knob. So yeah gonna get Microwave with knob too
Peak advice

Found this post looking for a new one and took the advice of a few people and got myself a Toshiba one (number 2 on this list: https://www.moneycaptain.com/best-microwaves/ ) and really happy with it! it's a perfect size and does just I needed it to do with a budget friendly price, before this one I had a Panasonic one and it was garbage compare to this one so +1 from me.

can confirm that Panasonic makes terrible microwaves, i got one a year ago and it has issues ALL the time
I'm looking for a microwave and saw this panasonic comment and had to add one more.
My old Sharp last 20 years, still works most of the time - at times have to plug in and out.
Got a panasonic two weeks ago. It worked for 4 days and then smoke started coming out of it lol. Now I have an LG, the "smart" sensor burns popcorn - kind of the #1 job of a microwaves at my place.
So now, I'm going to return that and get a toshiba - fingers crossed. Or a hybrid mutant convection microwave.
same here! got a panasonic one and it does truly sucks
i got the same Toshiba and i love it
glad you liked it too!
guys just updating my brother got the same one and he loves it too :)
thank that helped!
I just took a deep dive on this last month, the Toshiba EM131A5C is a really good choice.
Would really appreciate specific model recommendations and why you like them. Any features you've found particularly useful? Also interested in hearing about any models to avoid!
The best microwave is one that offers performance, ease of use, and advanced features, all while being reasonably priced. Here's my top recommendation!
Check out the best microwave for an unbeatable combination of features and value!
I'm looking for recommendations. Any thoughts?

Jadi saya mau beli microwave buat ibu. Ceritanya mau surprisin buat ultah wkwk.
This.
Dulu beli samsung ms23 taun 2020. Barusan rusak (lampu, rotator nyala tapi makanan enggak panas sama sekali).
Thanks imma avoid samsung
Kalo buat emak emak biasanya seneng yg versi sehat, coba air fryer
Seingetku memang standar daya microwave sekarang 800 watt.
Selain itu, ada beberapa pantangan
Kalau gw pake piring keramik/beling buat wadahnya.
Ada apa dengan telur wkwkwk
bom waktu organik
Telor rebus jg jangan.....
This microwave has been in my parents kitchen since 1987. I used it as a kid and it's still the best microwave in terms of size and wattage. My wife and I have been married for 12 years and used 3 different microwaves during that season. They don't make them like this anymore.
I am using an Amana Radarange that my parents purchased in 1981.
Those were the Cadillac of microwaves and built like a Sherman tank!
Ours died in the early 2000s, nice.
God I wish I still had the one of those my parents bought.
I am still using the one my dad bought 27 years ago, sure it blocks the WiFi when we use it but, it’s amazing and continues to do the job it was designed to do.
2.4Ghz WiFi is the same frequency as these ovens. Microwave. So it doesn't take much of a leak to block WiFi, but still you don't know HOW much it's leaking. Stay minimum of 6 feet away from it when it's operating, and maybe get a meter to test. (Cheap!) Since it's old it may have maligned hinges or otherwise been opened and improperly assembled. Best to be cautious.
if you can't be in the room with something that you use to literally cook your food, maybe just maybe, it's time to get something more modern...........
why my wireless headphones sound like the grudge every time I make popcorn?
Microwave radiation is non-ionizing, i.e. not going to give you cancer.
And still standing stronger than half the appliances made today 😂
We had the same one! So much microwave popcorn...
I've just inherited the 1985 version and can confirm it's awesome.
Hey guys!! Hope your week is starting out all right :) I'm going back to college soon and I'll need to get a microwave. Honestly I won't really be using for more than microwaving popcorn and reheating frozen/refrigerated food. The only conditions I'd prefer are that it's under $150, and that it will definitely last me at least two years (preferably three). I don't know much about microwaves, but after doing a little bit of research, I think I'd like if the microwave heats food evenly, had inverter technology, and was at least 1 cubic feet, but honestly the only requirements I care about are the price and longevity. Thanks in advance for your time :)
Sharp makes the vast majority of the microwaves used worldwide and they market them under many names as well as build them for other companies. Get a Sharp Carousel and it'll last a lifetime.
Another popular method is frying. Frying is quick and easy, and pans for cooking any fish often has a crispy exterior that most people find appealing. But do remember that all of that oil can add a lot of extra calories and fat to a dish.
well, may be I would perfect to choose a little little more expensive and high quality micrw. I bought aicook product few yr ago and it still new.
Sharp, but I have a Frigidaire.
Wait.
This is not what this subreddit is for.

Hello, I am looking for a large countertop microwave, such with inverter... I don't have a budget limit cause normally these devices last long :)
I saw the Panasonic above, also saw the site your shared - big like!!!
In the site, I could see that there is another good option, the Toshiba ML4-EM22PAIT. To be honest I don't really understand the difference between the two.
Both are excellent options, and relatively new in the market.
The Toshiba and the Panasonic have the same capacity, similar in size, power, and features. Both use inverter technology for consistent heating.
The Panasonic model has slightly higher power at 1250W, while Toshiba offers a smart sensor for automatic adjustments. Panasonic also includes Cyclonic Inverter Technology for even heat distribution.
Both can do the work, so in the case, chose what you think looks better in your kitchen (I rarely advise that.. hahaha).
I am looking for a new over the range microwave. 29 7/8" is my current model width. What is a good one that is stainless (print resistant ideally) and has good features. Thinking maybe an air fryer mode. The ones above all seem pretty basic. Might as well get some of the newer tech if I am replacing it. :) Obviously want something reliable as well.
Hi,
You are right, the models above are relatively basic, but they are the best sellers these days on Amazon US. Many people want a simple model for simple food heating.
Your size is standard one, and if you want something more advanced you can consider a microwave with Convection/Air fryer heating technology, it will cost around $500-$600 (compared to $250-$300 with the standard tech).
Notable convection over the range microwaves:
The convection heating method minimizes the selection, and makes it much more expensive, that's why many people just go on a simpler option.
If you need me to offer simpler solutions, please tell me. Good luck, I hope I helped a bit.
Hello, I only use the microwave to reheat things, never for cooking, popcorn, defrost etc. More important would be its capability as a range hood fan. I'd like to avoid stainless if possible. What brand model of OTR microwave do you recommend. Space is 30" wide. Thank you.
You can try the BLACK+DECKER EM044KB19, though it is stainless steel, it has a good size of 1.9Cu.ft and 400CFM (which is considered a good option). If you need a slim OTR please let me know, they will look better but less height and more expensive.
Alternative that is not stainless steel may be the GE JVM3160DFBB (Black or white), but it has a lower CFM (300 CFM).
Thank you! Those are the same two models I was looking at! I think a slim model will be too high for my wife to safely reach. o7
Heyyyy I want a microwave that looks good but won’t cost a ton. Any ideas?
look for Panasonic NN-SN686S. It’s got that stainless steel finish, so it looks fancy.
Hi, Are there any smart microwaves that work with Alexa or Google Assistant?
Yeah! Check out the Toshiba ML-EM45PIT. It’s got Alexa compatibility, so you can control it with voice commands.
That’s cool! What can I do with Alexa on it?
