What Redditors are Saying

Best Microwave Recommendations

TL;DR The Toshiba EM131A5C is highly recommended for its performance, simplicity, and value. Panasonic models with inverter technology are also praised for even cooking.

Toshiba Microwaves

The Toshiba EM131A5C model has been frequently recommended across discussions for its reliability and user-friendly features. Users appreciate its simple controls, quick buttons, and spacious interior [1:1][3:8]. It also looks elegant in the kitchen and provides consistent heating without cold spots [1:2][4:1].

Panasonic Inverter Technology

Panasonic microwaves with inverter technology have been noted for their ability to cook food evenly. The inverter technology allows for more precise temperature control, making auto cook buttons more effective [1:5]. A specific model mentioned is the Panasonic NN-SN643SAZ, which offers 1250W of power and has received positive feedback for its preprogrammed features [1:6]. However, some users have reported issues with Panasonic models, citing poor durability and performance [3:5][3:6].

LG and Samsung Options

LG and Samsung microwaves also have their advocates. LG models, particularly those with a charcoal grill version, have been praised for sturdiness and longevity [2:5]. Samsung convection microwaves have been used successfully for many years, providing reliable service [2:3].

Ease of Use and Advanced Features

For ease of use, microwaves with knobs rather than touch interfaces are preferred by some users [2:8]. Additionally, advanced features such as sensor cooking can enhance convenience and ensure consistent results [4:1].

Considerations Beyond the Discussions

When choosing a microwave, consider factors such as wattage (1000-1200W is ideal), size (around 1-1.2 cubic feet), and price (typically around $100 for a good model) [1:6]. It's important to balance performance, ease of use, and advanced features to find the best model for your needs.

I need a new microwave. Anyone want to make some recommendations? Don't have a price range at the moment, just looking for something that is top quality.

Ok so I had to buy a microwave recently and done ton of research (and I mean TON, way too much) and finally decided on a Toshiba one (it's the number 2 on this list https://www.moneycaptain.com/best-microwaves/ ) and I love everything about it! just what I needed, it's simple and effective, got all the quick buttons that I like so you don't have to deal with anything complex, got plenty of space inside and it looks super elegant in my kitchen.

When I check about a year and a half ago with the Reddit’s about microwaves, I was told Panasonic has some patent on “inverter technology”. Makes the auto cook buttons work better and cooks your food more evenly. We’d also been staying temporarily with someone that had a 300W microwave and I was so done with that. So I bought a 1250w Panasonic microwave at sams club.

And I’ll be dammed it really does cook food way more evenly!! And the automatic temp cook button thing is the first I’ve used that actually works!! It lets you adjust one tick hotter or colder for you food preferences too. Which is good because I don’t like super hot food.

So yeah, if it broke tomorrow I’d buy a new one. I freaking love that thing. I can find the model number if you want. But basically I’d say at least look for something with a 1000+watts and maybe look at a Panasonic with “inverter technology”

A good microwave should be about 1000-1200W (anything less than that will take forever to heat up food and do a poor job of it), 1-1.2 Cubic feet., and run about a hundred bucks. Here's a decent wirecutter article where they look at a number of models and features. I picked up a Panasonic NN-SN643SAZ 3 years ago for $106 and it's been amazing (feels like their preprogrammed features work really well also).

I'm looking for a microwave and saw this panasonic comment and had to add one more.

My old Sharp last 20 years, still works most of the time - at times have to plug in and out.

Got a panasonic two weeks ago. It worked for 4 days and then smoke started coming out of it lol. Now I have an LG, the "smart" sensor burns popcorn - kind of the #1 job of a microwaves at my place.

So now, I'm going to return that and get a toshiba - fingers crossed. Or a hybrid mutant convection microwave.

Best Microwave What Model Should I Buy

  • I’m in search of the best microwave that offers a perfect balance of performance and value. What should I prioritize to get the best model for my needs?
  • I’m looking for a microwave that heats food evenly and quickly, with consistent results. I don’t want to deal with cold spots or long wait times.
  • Another key factor is ease of use. I need a model with simple controls, intuitive settings, and convenient pre-programmed options for busy days.
  • I’d like a microwave with advanced features like sensor cooking, inverter technology, and defrost settings for more flexibility in cooking different foods.
  • Lastly, I’m looking for a reasonably priced option that provides great value without compromising on quality. Something in the mid-range price would be ideal.

Would really appreciate specific model recommendations and why you like them. Any features you've found particularly useful? Also interested in hearing about any models to avoid!

Rekomendasi micorwave

Jadi saya mau beli microwave buat ibu. Ceritanya mau surprisin buat ultah wkwk.

Dulu beli samsung ms23 taun 2020. Barusan rusak (lampu, rotator nyala tapi makanan enggak panas sama sekali).

Seingetku memang standar daya microwave sekarang 800 watt.

Selain itu, ada beberapa pantangan

  • Pas operasikan microwave jangan ditinggal
  • Ngga boleh masukin barang logam: Sendok/garpu/mangkok stainless steel
  • Jangan masukin telor ayam mentah
  • Alat makan plastik di dalam microwave itu berbahaya

Kalau gw pake piring keramik/beling buat wadahnya.

This microwave has been in my parents kitchen since 1987. I used it as a kid and it's still the best microwave in terms of size and wattage. My wife and I have been married for 12 years and used 3 different microwaves during that season. They don't make them like this anymore.

2.4Ghz WiFi is the same frequency as these ovens. Microwave. So it doesn't take much of a leak to block WiFi, but still you don't know HOW much it's leaking. Stay minimum of 6 feet away from it when it's operating, and maybe get a meter to test. (Cheap!) Since it's old it may have maligned hinges or otherwise been opened and improperly assembled. Best to be cautious.

What Microwave would you recommend I get?

Posted by Pakku-no-ichibu · in r/kitchen · 4 years ago

Hey guys!! Hope your week is starting out all right :) I'm going back to college soon and I'll need to get a microwave. Honestly I won't really be using for more than microwaving popcorn and reheating frozen/refrigerated food. The only conditions I'd prefer are that it's under $150, and that it will definitely last me at least two years (preferably three). I don't know much about microwaves, but after doing a little bit of research, I think I'd like if the microwave heats food evenly, had inverter technology, and was at least 1 cubic feet, but honestly the only requirements I care about are the price and longevity. Thanks in advance for your time :)

Best Microwaves 2025

Posted by bobthriller2 · in r/BestMicrowavesToday · 8 months ago

Lately, I had the chance to review more than 50 different microwaves, and I thought it would be a good idea to share my insights and help anyone looking for a new microwave. Choosing the right microwave can be tricky, so here’s what to consider before making a purchase:

Things to Consider:

  • Size & Capacity: Make sure it fits your kitchen and meets your needs (e.g., family-sized or compact for small spaces).
  • Wattage: Higher wattage means faster and more even cooking (usually 900W–1200W is ideal).
  • Cooking Technology: Look for features like inverter technology, convection, air fryer modes, or smart sensors.
  • Ease of Use: Check for simple controls, presets, and cleaning-friendly interiors.
  • Design: Countertop, built-in, or over-the-range—choose what works best for your space and style.

1.6–2.2 Cu. Ft. Large Countertop Microwaves

  • (Best Overall) Panasonic 2.2 Cu. Ft. Inverter Microwave (NN-SN97JS) - Delivers evenly cooked meals with its Cyclonic Inverter Technology. Includes smart sensor cooking and a spacious turntable. Great for families or frequent use.
  • (Best Value) Sharp 2.2 Cu. Ft. Microwave (SMC2266KS) - Large interior and efficient cooking with 1200W power. Includes sensor cooking, safety lock, and a sleek design at a reasonable price.
  • (Best Mid-Range) Samsung 1.9 Cu. Ft. Microwave (MS19DG8500MTAA) - Features scratch-resistant ceramic interior, sensor cooking, and optional trim kit for built-in flexibility.

1.2–1.6 Cu. Ft. Medium Countertop Microwaves

  • (Most Versatile) Panasonic HomeChef 4-in-1 Microwave (NN-CD87KS) - Combines microwave, convection, air fryer, and broiler modes. Compact and powerful for multifunctional cooking.
  • (Best Budget-Friendly) Toshiba 1.6 Cu. Ft. Microwave (ML-EM45PIT) – Inverter technology ensures even cooking and defrosting. Includes smart sensor presets and an optional silent mode.
  • (Best Compact) Toshiba 1.2 Cu. Ft. Microwave (EM131A5C) – Compact but roomy enough for everyday use. Features easy-clean interior and one-touch controls.

0.7-1.2 Cu. Ft. Small Countertop Microwaves

  • (Best Value) Toshiba 1.0 Cu. Ft. 8-in-1 Microwave - Combines air frying, convection, and standard heating in a compact design. Great for cooking versatility with a sleek black finish.
  • (Best Budget) Farberware 1.1 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave - A simple, affordable option with 1000W power, stainless steel design, and pre-set cooking options for convenience.
  • (Best for Power) Chefman 0.8 Cu. Ft. MicroCrisp Microwave - Offers microwave and convection heating with a crisp function, ideal for reheating crispy foods.

Notable Over-the-Range Microwaves

  • Best Overall: Black+Decker 1.9 Cu. Ft Over-The-Range Microwave Oven (EM044KB19) - Combines large capacity, 1000W power, and efficient venting for busy kitchens. Its sleek design and practical features make it a top pick.
  • Best Value: GE 1.6 Cu. Ft. Over-The-Range Microwave Oven (JVM3160) – A budget-friendly option offering 1000W power, convenience controls, and reliable performance. Ideal for medium-sized households.
  • Good Value for Price: Farberware 1.7 Cu. Ft. 1000W Over-The-Range Microwave (FMR17) – Spacious interior, versatile cooking presets, and family-friendly safety locks make it a great all-rounder.
  • High-End Low Profile: KoolMore 30 Inch Over-The-Range Microwave (KM-MLPOT-1SS) – A sleek, low-profile design with 400 CFM venting, making it perfect for compact spaces and modern kitchens.

I’ll keep sharing updates, and maybe some good deals as well. If you want to see more options tailored to your needs, I suggest checking out this best microwaves page. My work is embedded there and there’s a helpful filter to guide you through all top brands.

If you have questions or want to share useful tips, feel free to ask, I’ll do my best to assist.

Best of luck.

Hello, I am looking for a large countertop microwave, such with inverter... I don't have a budget limit cause normally these devices last long :)

I saw the Panasonic above, also saw the site your shared - big like!!!

In the site, I could see that there is another good option, the Toshiba ML4-EM22PAIT. To be honest I don't really understand the difference between the two.

1 upvotes on reddit
bobthriller2 · OP · 7 months ago

Both are excellent options, and relatively new in the market.

The Toshiba and the Panasonic have the same capacity, similar in size, power, and features. Both use inverter technology for consistent heating.

The Panasonic model has slightly higher power at 1250W, while Toshiba offers a smart sensor for automatic adjustments. Panasonic also includes Cyclonic Inverter Technology for even heat distribution.

Both can do the work, so in the case, chose what you think looks better in your kitchen (I rarely advise that.. hahaha).

I am looking for a new over the range microwave. 29 7/8" is my current model width. What is a good one that is stainless (print resistant ideally) and has good features. Thinking maybe an air fryer mode. The ones above all seem pretty basic. Might as well get some of the newer tech if I am replacing it. :) Obviously want something reliable as well.

bobthriller2 · OP · 8 months ago

Hi,

You are right, the models above are relatively basic, but they are the best sellers these days on Amazon US. Many people want a simple model for simple food heating.

Your size is standard one, and if you want something more advanced you can consider a microwave with Convection/Air fryer heating technology, it will cost around $500-$600 (compared to $250-$300 with the standard tech).

Notable convection over the range microwaves:

  1. GE Profile 1.7 Cu. Ft. Convection Over-the-Range Microwave Oven (GEPVM9179SRSS) - on Amazon you can find it today for $550. I compared to Low's, there it is $600. You can see here a bit more information, it may help.
  2. LG 1.7 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Over-the-Range Microwave (MHEC1737F) - On Low's today it is $500 and on Amazon $600.
  3. KoolMore 30 Inch Over-The-Range Microwave (KM-MLPOT-1SS) - this is a slim version, in case it is something that may work for you (what I presented above). It has a lower capacity of 1.2 Cu. Ft.

The convection heating method minimizes the selection, and makes it much more expensive, that's why many people just go on a simpler option.

If you need me to offer simpler solutions, please tell me. Good luck, I hope I helped a bit.

Hello, I only use the microwave to reheat things, never for cooking, popcorn, defrost etc. More important would be its capability as a range hood fan. I'd like to avoid stainless if possible. What brand model of OTR microwave do you recommend. Space is 30" wide. Thank you.

1 upvotes on reddit
bobthriller2 · OP · 7 months ago

You can try the BLACK+DECKER EM044KB19, though it is stainless steel, it has a good size of 1.9Cu.ft and 400CFM (which is considered a good option). If you need a slim OTR please let me know, they will look better but less height and more expensive.

Alternative that is not stainless steel may be the GE JVM3160DFBB (Black or white), but it has a lower CFM (300 CFM).

Yeah! Check out the Toshiba ML-EM45PIT. It’s got Alexa compatibility, so you can control it with voice commands.

Key Considerations for Choosing the Best Microwave:

  1. Type of Microwave:

    • Countertop Microwaves: Versatile and easy to install; great for most kitchens.
    • Over-the-Range Microwaves: Save counter space and double as a range hood.
    • Built-in Microwaves: Integrated into cabinetry for a seamless look.
  2. Size and Capacity:

    • Consider the interior capacity (measured in cubic feet) based on your cooking needs. A 1.5 to 2.0 cubic feet capacity is suitable for most households.
    • Ensure it fits your kitchen space, including height, width, and depth.
  3. Wattage:

    • Higher wattage (900-1200 watts) generally means faster cooking times and more even heating.
  4. Features:

    • Look for features like sensor cooking, pre-programmed settings, inverter technology (for consistent heating), and easy-to-clean interiors.
    • Additional features like convection cooking can add versatility.
  5. Ease of Use:

    • User-friendly controls and a clear display can enhance your cooking experience.

Recommendations:

  • Panasonic NN-SN966S: This countertop microwave offers 2.2 cubic feet of capacity, 1250 watts of power, and inverter technology for even cooking. It's highly rated for its performance and features.

  • Breville BMO850SIL: Known for its smart features and sleek design, this model includes a "smart" sensor that adjusts cooking time and power based on the food type.

  • GE JVM3160RFSS: A reliable over-the-range option with 1.6 cubic feet of capacity and 1000 watts of power, offering good performance and a built-in venting system.

Choosing the right microwave depends on your specific needs and kitchen layout, so consider what features are most important to you!
