TL;DR
Super Shotgun and Meathook
The Super Shotgun, especially with the Meathook mod, is frequently mentioned as one of the best weapons in Doom Eternal. It provides excellent mobility and damage output, making it a favorite among players [5:1]. The Meathook allows players to quickly close gaps and reposition, which is crucial in fast-paced combat scenarios
[2:5].
Rocket Launcher and Mods
The Rocket Launcher, with its various firing modes, is considered an essential weapon by many players. Its versatility allows for effective crowd control and significant damage against larger enemies [5:1]. Sticky bombs from the Combat Shotgun can be used strategically to break enemy parts like Arachnotron turrets
[5:3].
Unmakyr vs. BFG
The Unmakyr is often compared to the BFG but serves a different purpose. While the BFG can clear entire rooms, the Unmakyr is more precise, ideal for targeting ultra-heavy demons [2:4]
[5:2]. It is recommended for use against specific threats like Arch-viles on Nightmare difficulty
[4:10].
Chainsaw Usage
The Chainsaw is indispensable for maintaining ammunition levels, as it provides resources when used on enemies [5:4]. Despite being less directly impactful in combat, its role in resource management makes it a critical tool throughout the game.
Weapon Synergies
Several weapons have synergies that enhance their effectiveness. For example, the Microwave Beam can stun spirits, making it useful in combination with other weapons [2:3]. The Pulverizer pairs well with melee attacks, creating powerful combos that can quickly eliminate enemies
[3:4]
[3:5].
Overall, while personal preferences may vary, these weapons and strategies are commonly highlighted as effective choices in Doom Eternal gameplay.
Other than plasma rifle, literally every other weapon is S tier IMO.
Both grenades should be higher.
Ice Bomb counters absolutely everything except Marauder (who it also used to counter lol)
Frags are invaluable CC
HMP player tier list ngl
Damn you did frags dirty, those things are great
This is sooo wrong, but hey, its your opinion
Chainsaw should be in chainsaw tier, and super shotgun could be higher, but overall I agree
Saying no weapon mods does the heavy cannon so dirty... But that should also mean no meathook, and the SSG is like B tier without the hook
it is already intergrated and it's not like you get a weapon mod for it.
Heavy cannon is Replaced as soon as you get the Chaingun. i guess maybe it is good if you want to glory kill imps though
It's not though.. because of weapon mods. I get the tier list is like a "what if no mods" but in reality the heavy cannon is one of the 2 best weapons in the game.
I Practically had no use for The Heat Blast weapon mod. Remote detonation does it's job.
Microwave beam is S Tier because The Amount of Shotgunners is insane. and because It can Stun Spirits which is hella useful.
Not to mention heatwave absolutely MELTS doom hunter shields.
Heatwave the shield. 2 lock on bursts from rocket to destroy sled. Follow up lock on burst to stagger the hunter. It’s dead in around 7 seconds :)
The Unmakyr should be seen as an alternative to the BFG, not a weapon to compete with. The BFG can eliminate an entire room, but there are players who don't want that. The Unmakyr is for those that don't want an easy win weapon but still want to use the ammo.
Some combos I can recommend based on the tier list:
Arbalest is easy to sleep-on, but I found these some redeeming qualities: If a flying demon is posessed, the Arbalest explosion isn’t part of their plasma-based resistance. Also, since it has a delayed explosion you can fire Arbalest, switch to Chaingun Shield, and have the Shield Launch immediately. (same with lock-on rockets)
Sticky bombs also get replaced by the Rocket’s splash damage, but if you sticky a demon’s head it’s actually very decent damage. (Every headshot is about 1,5-2 times the original damage) That combined with the PB/Sticky quickswap combo, you can pretty much melt heavies with 3 swaps.
Last one: (since PB is ‘only’ in A tier) The best value combo I’ve ever learned was to Meathook a fodder, switch to PB midair, and give him a headshot. 6HC ammo and you get 20Armor. Best deal ever.
Great pixel arts by the way! I really love seeing these models in this artstyle. Makes me wish for a full 8bit demake of Doom Eternal.
The Five Spot Stickies is fantastic if you hit all 5 criticals. It's especially sweet for larger groups of varied enemies. If you kite enemies into forming a cluster with good mobility tactics, you can hit several weak points and/ or headshots, and follow up with something like Ice Bomb, Frag, Chaingun and you'll pretty well delete almost entire waves in some scenarios.
It is Mostly because of the Enemy placement.
in the DLC every arena has multiple phases meaning that 100% of the time It just isnt worth the 30 argents. Hell Even with the Unlimited ammo cheat mod you need at least 5 BFG Shots to clear out an Arena (gets more costly Assuming you spam) Not to mention Levels take longer to complete
UnMaykr is a good choice in comparision because you can at least Put these shots to good use on actual threats unlike the BFG who could potentially put you in a bad spot Where you dont have any Weaker enemies to farm resources from.
and it can serve as a Great tyrant melter With an Ice bomb.
Unmaykr is good for stabbing three evenly-distanced vampires shooting three evenly-distanced demons, or for absolutely ripping through one very large one.
Someone else could explain it better than me, but in short, The Unmaykr is more of a precision super weapon to The BFG's mass slaughter. The Unmaykr also has the advantage of being able to more easily hold onto ammo than The BFG. In short, The Unmaykr is a scalpel to The BFG's sledgehammer.
oh i get that absolutely. i guess im just thinking why would i use a super strong scalpel that eats rare nuke ammo when i have a basically just as efficient, equally strong version through ballista swapping with effectively infinite ammo. plus the added mobility it has
then again im a bit of a resource hoarder haha. ill definitely consider using it when i do old gods! ty!
When the game was released, new weapons were added to the world of DOOM. I couldn't decide which weapons were the most brutal in the game. I'm curious about your opinions. Which is your favorite weapon?
Aesthetically, they are cool. Physically, I fucking hate 75% of them. There are 11 weapons and I can only bind 7 of them, and instead of a key or button to change firing modes, like being able to toggle between the shotgun and super shot gun, that way it is STILL one gun and no swap animation is required, we got two of each, and half of them are unnecessary.
The cycler is dumb, because it never hits anything and gets phased out by the double plasma repeater, which can shock. But the shield can shock on a parry, so even then, that is not so necessary either, it is just there to look pretty.
The grenade launcher sucks because does the exact same thing as the rocket but has an arc to it and someone thought have a grenade launcher would be a good idea, so you have a grenade. For some reason. It would have been cooler if the grenades had effects like the ice and scorch from eternal, but…no. Just boom boom. And then the rocket is great, it is a crowd clear…or is it? Because the shield can do that too, which means the rocket is actually supposed to be for damage, but it fires slowly and the splash damage dealt does not counteract the damage dealt to demons. So, pass on that as well.
The chain-shot is fucking awesome. No notes, iconic and interesting weapon. 10/10, absolutely love it.
The nail gun…I mean, the shredder, sorry. The shredder, which is actually just a nail gun, is only useful early on for pincushion. After you get the rail spike, there is no reason to go back, because you have the shield, you have the rocket, a virtually pointless grenade, and you have a skull crusher, which I will get to next, all of which can effectively destroy crowds with ease. If I had a choice between lighting up a railspiking a mancubus and killing it in three seconds or turning it into a pincushion, I am going to rail spike it because it is more reliable.
Skull crusher? Great. But only the second variant, the one with a more narrow firing cone. It is like a full auto shotgun and I love it, no notes.
Shotguns? Boy am I glad you asked because I absolutely hate the super shotgun in dark ages. Its reload animation takes forever and I cannot swap weapons before it is done. It deals good damage but the burst shotgun is more reliable because when I need to swap guns or block, I can do that. It also lights things on fire, which is more damage, and because I can actually do block or swap when I have the burst out, I do not have to commit to it when dueling big demons. I like.
The shield can stun, block, deflect, shock and crowd clear. And because of that, the arsenal does not have anywhere NEAR as much utility. Better game, yes, I agree, but the guns are nowhere near as nice.
Gotta disagree with you on the cycler, it absolutely shreds demons health much faster than the double plasma, ESPECIALLY in boss fights, it’s a great close-mid range weapon, Id recommend you giving it a 2nd chance. Everything else you said I think are good takes, feels like kind of a step back from Eternal in that every weapon feels like it has a specific purpose
I love that some weapons have specific synergies with the rest of your kit.
Shredder and GL pair with the shield toss.
RL and Chainshot pair with the parry.
Pulverizer pairs with the melee, which even then the melee options will add situational nuance to the effectiveness of the Pulverizer. This gun is highly slept on.
Cycler shock can pair with Gauntlet and heaven splitter rune if an experienced player knows how to optimally use the three for max crowd clearing, shock damage multiplier is also crazy good.
Accelerator, Ravager, and SSG are easy high DPS options of varying degrees and situations, which can be combo'd with the shield and melee for max effectiveness.
Combat shotty is just a steady armor farm.
Then there's the Impaler, which combos with shield throw, bash, parry, and melee. And returns melee charges. And returns ammo. This gun is so ridiculous it's not even funny, you're only sacrificing crowd control but you get the highest single DPS in the game. Paired with the dreadmace and you'll kill anything in seconds, even when dealing half damage to demons.
The weapons overall have more versatility than even in Eternal, you are just now forced to combo each weapon with the rest of your kit instead of with another weapon like before.
Pulverzer is insane. Slept on it on my first playthrough and second playthrough I deliberately wanted to try other stuff, long story short it ended up becoming one of my go to guns for UN it's absolutely cracked
Genuinely this gun is crazy good. People complain about the Komodo a lot but they clearly haven't mastered the Pulverizer+Gauntlet combo, even on 50% damage to demons you'll kill the Komodo Champion like it's nothing with this gun. I used to think the Ravager was just the Pulverizer but better and it didn't make sense to me why the Pulverizer has a higher ammo consumption, but after forcing myself to use it thru Siege missions, I learned the true ways of the popcorn machine.
What do you use for asrick fight? On UN I've been avoiding the last 2 levels because of that fight.
Crack team. I love ‘em.
Some are more prevalent than others, sure.
GL ain’t got shit on RL
but even if a weapon isn’t that obviously useful, it DOES have unique uses.
GL for example is totally different from any ither weapon, as it’s great for fight or flight swaps. Shooting at an angle, from behind cover. That’s pretty unique in this Stand and Fight playground.
The only weapon I couldn’t figure out so far is the Shredder. I’d say it’s a “poor man’s Accelarator”, but I’m certain that isn’t the case.
Pincushion plus hell knightss...the accelerator has to be my fav next to pulverizer and shredder. Pulverizer w melee buff is bananas and the skull turns yellow. Coincidence?
Shield throw to stun demon > fire till pincushion is ready> call shield back to detonate pincushion > keep shooting while demon is dazed > before daze finishes throw shield so when it arrives pincushion is set again > execute the demon
That combo works on every stunnable enemy, it deletes all of them
Once the shredder is upgraded basically everything sets pincushion off, from parries to shield throws to recalling a shield to bashes. It's basically the do-everything gun: easy to track smaller fast-moving targets thanks to full auto, plus you can sit there and pelt heavies in group fights or duels and it will reliably detonate chunky AOE damage while you do the stuff you were normally doing anyways.
Nice array of weapons
They’re so cool. I love their designs.
If you are counting weapon mods, heavy cannon and chaingun(shield is OP) are easily s tier. In fact most weapons are probably a or s tier. Except plasma rifle or combat shotgun. You don't have to use them if you don't want to since they are outclassed by others.
I've become a real big fan of momentary microwave beam stunlocking recently. Has bumped the plasma rifle up in my estimation.
And they are A class because they are actually very viable, just not as good as others.
Honestly, disagree with most of this
Tho I will say, Unmaker is the most useless weapon
My favorite weapon is the combat shotgun from the start of the game
Just asking, when should I use the Unmaykr?
It's decent against Spirit Possessed enemies (though I prefer micromissiles for the same effect)
It's not bad per say but it shares BFG cells
With infinite ammo cheat
To delete arch viles in nightmare
Wrong, they’re all good
Unmakyr is useful, you need to play as a combo weapon like Balista / Precisionbolt. Balista, 3-5 Shots Unmakyr, Balista. This makes short Work of Baron of Hells. Or combine it with the Microwavebeam.
Remember: The Unmaykr is there to kill Ultra Heavy Deamons and this is the reason why I use it more often than the BFG.
Why is there a "Combat shotgun" and a "Base shotgun"?
And why are they s tier with no mods the combat shotgun is ass
Sticky mod is good, but I only really used it to break parts like the arachnotron turrets
Yeah Ikr, like there's the Combat Shotgun and the Super Shotgun. The fuck is "base shotgun"?
It's when there's no mods at the very start of DE for the shotgun. Of course, it's not gonna last long when you get the first two mods for the shotgun.
Chainsaw should be at the very top
Honestly so underrated. Love those little stun combos
Yeah, me too, but I honestly use it to tell how much hp a demon has, or how I already mentioned agaist whiplashes or any other demon thats annoying, but you could use it to stun ‘em and super shotgun, its way better than heatblast imo, not that I really use it
all 3 of rocket launcher's firing modes are in essential imo. also, precision bolt and the super shotgun (meathook) deserve an entire tier above essential
coughs in never using rocket launcher
i like to sporadically use it on spirited demons, let’s me know how much health they have left. it’s also nice to hold a spirit baron in place for a second
[deleted]
Flashlight should be considered in rankings
dart gun and pistol are god tier
I really enjoyed doing a minimum kills run and obviously the snoozefest was vital for that.
With that said, why are you lying?
This list is major ass and you know it.
Raymond in B = list disqualified, this shotty makes my balls hard
Worst take I’ve seen in a long time
In your opinion what's the most iconic/favorite weapon? My personal favorites would be the chain gun and super shotgun due to gameplay and aesthetic through out all the games i feel they kept there badass looks.
Rocket launcher. Because I enjoy blowing shit up with it.
Most iconic has to be the bfg, but favorite is definitely the berserk powerup. Something about splitting an imp's head in half with your bare hands gets me going
For me it's a toss up between the chainsaw and super shotty.
BFG Division intensifys
Even though it wasn't in the original I'd say the Super Shotgun is the most iconic. BFG probably the most original and a close 2nd.
S should be gaus cannon, ssg, bfg and chainsaw, plasma rifle is b, only for the stun mod and everything else is F.
Actually rocket launcher is A
Gauss cannon in B tier!? How? Also hot take, the plasma gun is trash, the only thing that makes it even semi-good is the stun bomb.
not so hot take, I've personally bounded pistol and plasma rifle to 0 and 9 in order to save space and put the useful weapons closer to WASD keys

did you just put the gauss cannon in b???
wtf the gauss cannon is op
How dare you but the combat shotgun in the same field as the Super Shotgun. Have you heard of double trouble?
Based on my opinion this is it : the smg is so good at slowing you can prevent stuff getting to you , damnation has great dmg and insane crowd control, flamethrower no need to explain
A tier : witness team dmg is great , embezzler great money and good damage
B tier : lockjaw is just average, skull totem swings to slow
C tier : pestilence the damage is just too low , tenderizer needs more damage and shouldn't damage you like wtf
D tier : nemesis actively sabotages you and your team with infinite spawns and doesn't draw them to you either
What do you think?
S Tier:
Witness. Best damage out of the Legendary guns, even before you include the buff it gives to teammates. Fits in more decks than any other gun. Somebody on every team should be running it. Good enough hip fire accuracy that your melee player can run it if nobody else is. Deserves to be a tier above everything else as it's the only Legendary gun that isn't overshadowed by a normal gun with Legendary Attachments.
A Tier:
Prototype. Very good damage and a very strong perk. It isn't as good as an LMG with legendary attachments and Suppressing Fire. But requires less investment and is the perfect gun for a melee player to grab.
Embezzler. The perfect sidearm for a shotgunner. Tbh, I'd only avoid it if running as a sniper. I wouldn't put it on par with Witness as it's still only a secondary gun but it's strong and more copper is always good.
B Tier:
Damnation. Good but a shotgunner is going to want Spray n Pray in which case it's completely overshadowed by a normal AA12. It's a strong choice early in a run though so still deserves a lot of praise even if it's often overrated. It's also a lot of fun, which shouldn't be ignored.
Flamethrower. Technically an accessory. Fun and effective but niche use with ammo management challenges.
C Tier:
Tenderiser. Really strong with the right deck but unfortunately that deck is only something you can run if you're guaranteed this weapon.
Lockjaw. Completely overshadowed by every other sniper rifle. Only the fact that it's worth picking up if you are playing a sniper deck and find a blue one on the first lvl. Keeps it out of the bottom tier.
Skull totems. Most ppl just carry them for the currency. Rarity resets every hive which makes it less effective in later Hives. Better then they get credit for but don't have any perks and completely overshadowed by any normal melee weapon.
D Tier
Pestilence. A DoT gun in a game where burst damage is far more important than DPS. There's just no good place for this one
Nemesis. Good damage but the taunt doesn't hold aggro. It's a troll gun run mainly by players who don't even realise they're making the game harder by carrying it.
I think flamethrower gotta be higher thr insta kill on almost anything is great but everything else is fine
This is bang on what I would have said if I wanted to put effort into a reply haha.
I'd even put pestilence below Nemesis, it is by far the weakest gun in the game. It has the same damage as a white carbine iirc? Just truly a peashooter. At least nemesis has one of the highest damage per bullet in the game.
I'm low-key thinking about reinstalling to do a 4x nemesis run 🙈
>I'd even put pestilence below Nemesis, it is by far the weakest gun in the game.
The problem with Pestilence is that people try to use it while thinking that it'll help; it won't. People who use Nemesis KNOW it won't help and that's why they use it. lol
I’m not someone who has played much b4b, especially since the first few months of release so I don’t know metas well. Is spray n pray for shotgunners that necessary? I have a hipfire build that turns every shot into slugs that seems to have great effective range, am I misinterpreting its efficacy when I play?
Depending on the difficulty you're playing at, you might be overestimating how effective a shotgun is outside of its effective range. They are perfectly strong guns without Spray n Pray. It just completely blows any balance out of the water.
The damage fall-off for an AA12 starts at 2.5 metres so they only do full damage inside of that range. After 10m they do less than a 3rd of their max damage. That's a pretty steep damage drop off range that starts very early.
Shotguns are balanced around being a short range gun. The AA12 takes 3 times as many shots to kill outside of their very short effective range. Spray n Pray removes range limitations completely.
Removing the damage drop off from a gun that depends on that drop off to be balanced is just going to buff that gun beyond anything else in the game.
When you pair that with the fact that accuracy reduces pellets spread to make shotguns effectively fire slugs, you get shotguns doing more damage than sniper rifles at sniping ranges.
Witness is an easy top of S-rank. 20% extra damage is cracked. But it's a great gun to use even without that, the huge mag is really nice.
Haven't used the Lockjaw much as it basically never spawns. But I found it quite inferior to a modded Phoenix, its unique attribute with armour just didn't come up much either so it has little to offer. I'd sooner use the Pestilence; not great, but at least it actually offers something different and has a reason to exist.
Still not sure how Nemesis made in. They know how the spawning system works in this game right?
I agree mostly I always thought that the lockjaw doesn't spawn for some reason
Witness is literally unusable at least the smg has some use cases
Witness is ridiculous. Can easily just use it for an entire run on NH. And you haven’t played a tenderizer build before I see. It’s busted. Also it doesn’t damage you?
It does damage you if you play on higher difficulty and doesn't give melee health fully can only be used on niche build it doesn't do enough either its like 4 to 5 hit on a bruiser its just poor imo but cool
You can one-shot everything in the game outside of ogres with the right tenderizer setup. I've gotten 95%+ on a NH ogre but couldn't quite get the setup right to one-shot it. But yeah, you can very easily kill bruisers, breakers, hag, etc in one hit with it. And then you just horde clear with fists, which also works just fine. Better than combat knife, certainly.
Ive seen 1 ,just one person ,mention the gauss cannon . It is beautiful ,its life ,and its the greatest combo with the super shotgun
original plasma gun and super shotgun. 2016 gauss canon and micro missiles heavy rifle
2016 chaingun. Especially when you use mobile turret with the correct runes, the thing is a hand held GAU-8 avenger!
All of them
Once the Flaming Grapple is unlocked that becomes so useful. Then when you get to TAG and you have the meat hook swinging? It feels like you have so much movement freedom.
Honourable mention to the Shotgun sticky bomb. That is my go to in a situation where I'm just running and gunning and need to thin out the little people without worrying too much about accuracy.
The Heavy Rifle with precision shot is also a workhorse for me.
But my absolute favourite becomes the Crucible once Archvile's are a thing. I always save my crucible swings for them. It's just so much easier getting rid of them instantly.
Best Doom weapon tier list
Key Considerations for a Doom Weapon Tier List:
Damage Output: Assess the raw damage each weapon can deal, including single-target and area damage.
Rate of Fire: Consider how quickly a weapon can fire, as this affects overall damage per second (DPS).
Ammo Efficiency: Evaluate how much damage a weapon can do per shot relative to its ammo consumption.
Versatility: Look for weapons that can be effective against a variety of enemy types and situations.
Upgrades and Mods: Some weapons have mods that can significantly enhance their effectiveness, so consider how upgrades impact their tier.
General Tier List Overview:
S Tier (Top Tier):
A Tier:
B Tier:
C Tier:
D Tier (Lower Tier):
Recommendation: Focus on mastering the S and A tier weapons for the best performance in combat. The BFG 9000 and Super Shotgun are particularly effective for dealing with tougher enemies and hordes, making them essential for higher difficulty levels.
