Doom Speedrun Strategies

Community Resources and Networking

To get started with Doom Eternal speedrunning, a great approach is to connect with the community through platforms like speedrun.com. The leaderboards often have links to Discord servers where speedrunners share strategies and techniques [1:1]. Many experienced players post tech videos on YouTube, providing insights into exploits and speedrunning tactics. Engaging with these communities can be beneficial as they are welcoming and supportive of newcomers.

Gameplay Techniques

Mastering gameplay mechanics is crucial for speedrunning. Key strategies include using chainsaw, blood punches, and grenades liberally since they recharge quickly [2:1]. Movement is another critical aspect; maintaining forward momentum by running, jumping, dashing, and swinging helps avoid damage and keep up the pace [2:2]. Weapon swapping is essential; getting comfortable with quick changes between weapons can significantly improve efficiency during runs [3:5].

Difficulty Level Insights

For those looking to tackle Nightmare difficulty, starting at Ultra-Violence can help build skills gradually [3:4]. Practicing quick weapon switching and combos like Precision + Ballista will enhance combat effectiveness. Understanding enemy weak points and keeping resources topped up, especially armor, is vital [3:4]. Some players suggest diving directly into Nightmare mode to develop general FPS skills [3:5].

Keybindings and Controls

Optimizing keybindings can greatly enhance performance. Customizing controls to make melee and chainsaw easily accessible, and binding important weapons like Super Shotgun and Rocket Launcher to convenient keys can streamline gameplay [3:1]. Using side-buttons on a mouse for quick actions can also be advantageous. Watching guides such as Devo's 6-hour video on YouTube can provide detailed explanations on game mechanics and strategies [3:2].

Mindset and Motivation

Maintaining a positive mindset is crucial when tackling challenging levels. Some players find that anger can fuel motivation and enhance focus during intense gameplay [4:2]. Embracing the competitive nature of the game and using emotions constructively can lead to better performance. Remember, persistence and practice are key to mastering Doom speedruns.

Keep running, jumping, dashing, and swinging.

Try not to move backwards (keep your view towards where you’re moving).

Get comfortable swapping weapons a lot.

Don’t get discouraged. The first 3-5 levels are rough. You’ll feel like there’s too much to focus on and it’ll feel too hard for you to do. Stick with it. It will soon click and you’ll be addicted to the action.

Oh and a quick tip for the marauder because the game frankly gives the wrong info. Don’t stand in some middle ground like they say. Run away from him and dodge is projectiles with a dash. He will run to you and when he gets to that mid range point, he will open himself up. Also, once you falter him, shoot him again. He will take damage as long as he is faltered. The “super weapons“ will work on him in that state as well.

I’d say backpedaling is actually pretty important to get down, getting away from enemies while also dealing damage is crucial.

I guess it depends on which difficulty level they’re going to play on.

They likely won’t start on Nightmare but I died from this many times on Nightmare. Yes, in other instances, I was also too aggressive and got too close to enemies head-first when I shouldn’t have, but I think ideally learning to not go in too much, as well as not backpedaling, and trying to always give yourself an out that you can see would be the best situation on any difficulty. It’s just not as required on the lower ones.

It also depends on the area. There are of course many areas where there just won’t be someone behind you, but in many congested circular/square arenas I found it to be common enough to avoid it.

Also, to add, if you get too close to a deadly enemy, absolutely backpedal, I just think it would be better to avoid that entirely.

In order to best the combat, try to reduce enemy health to zero while keeping your own health above zero.

Move in fucking circles. And DONT play battlemode until you beat the game at least once. Also prepare to either brake sum or lose your voice

Your chainsaw, blood punches or grenades recharge very fast so don't be shy about using them. Hell, outside of the BFG don't worry about saving ammo/charges for a special occasion in general. If you've got it, use it.

Doom Eternal - Best Way to Git Gud at Nightmare Difficulty?

Posted by Arutla · in r/Doom · 5 months ago

So I've been playing Doom Eternal a lot lately, and I normally play on I'm Too Young to Die or Hurt Me Plenty mode because I'm honestly just terrible at FPS games. I want to get better, especially since I own it on PC now and can take advantage of M/KB controls and some of the frame rate dependent glitches. What is the best way to get better on Nightmare mode? Would you suggest starting the game on Nightmare and dying until I'm better at the game, or gradually working my way up by playing each difficulty in order?

Also; any general tips for the harder difficulties?

Devo on youtube has a 6hr guide on how to beat the game on UN. But he plays on UN and goes through the game explaining the META of all upgrades, and secondary good choices. Obviously that goal is UN, but its just a great explainer on just overall game play that anyone on any difficulty can benefit from. Its a 6hr long video, but that also means you can fast forward to any level you need or where you get key things like the SSG or Rocket launcher and get advice on those.

Start ultra violence. Practice quick switching and weapon combos. There’s some easy basic combos. Precision + Ballista is a bread and butter choice, cap it off with either rocket for range or ssg for short range.

Learn weak points and always stay on the move, keep your resources topped up, armor tends to be the one people leave underbaked. Use the ssg upgrade to get easy armor shards on fodder, otherwise use ice nade into flamethrower then kill a group. Try also making a habit of burning a group before a blood punch or chainsaw.

Every arena has a specific demon roster that is the same in all of the difficulties. So best start memorizing what demons are in what arena, it’s all about whittling down problems. Demons like prowlers go into glory kill state from one ballista shot, so they’re easy to clear from the board early or better kept for later for easy glory kills. Ultimately the Marauder is your skill check on if you can quick switch and do the dance well. So practice on him.

Since you’re on pc, set some key binds for each weapon, that will help with quick swaps. I also like to put chainsaw on R since every game uses it for reload, a good way to translate a habit into eternal. When you feel Ultra Violence is too easy, take the next step and practice on nightmare, and you will surpass it.

Build habits, make room, balance resources. Rip and tear until it is done.

This is some really good advice, thanks! I have a number pad on my mouse that I've bound to some actions like chainsaw and melee. Once I get more weapons I might change it up so it's easier to quick change 🤔 I'm definitely going to try to get better at that. On ps5 you can only quick change to your last equipped weapon, so this is new territory for me.

Thanks again, bud!

I wouldn’t recommend numpad as it is too far out of your range. You’ll want key binds that are easy to access. For example back when I beat the game on UN my binds were:

CTRL- Ballista

T - Super Shot Gun

F - Heavy HR (with precision)

C - Rocket Launcher

V or B - Argent Blade/Hammer

X - Chain Gun (Shield) [I only used chain gun when low health and in a bad spot strictly for the shield]

For weapons I rarely used in combos I still had them nearby above wasd using standard number keys such as:

1 Key - Combat Shotgun

2 Key - Plasma Rifle

I had blood punch on M5 and Grenade on M4. Mod swap on M3 and G for grenade swap. E for Flame Belch. Shift for dash.

Lastly I had Q for quick switching to previous weapon, which is what you’ll use for quickly combining between two weapons (Ballista + Precision for example.)

I don’t like to use BFG/Unmaykr due to them being a freebie weapon but you’re more than free to use them it’s your game. If you do feel the need to swap, just use weapon wheel.

You don’t have to use these binds, but purpose of it all is to have it really easy to access on the fly without ever having to move your hand off WASD or Mouse. Try to do the same and make a bind list you can learn and be comfortable with!

I honestly think 90% of my success in the game comes from mastering the controls. Use keybinds for everything and then stick with them. From your post, it doesn't sound like you're too familiar with extensive keybinding.

Start with making melee and chainsaw as easy as possible to use, for example I use the side-buttons on my mouse instead of having to find a key on the keyboard.

Then think about binding (in my opinion) the four most important weapons: Super Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, Ballista, and Heavy Cannon. For example, I use E for SSG, F for Rockets, 1 for Ballista, 2 for Heavy Cannon with Precision Bolt. All keys are right next to WASD, and I never have to think about what I want to be doing. Don't take my binds as gospel, just note the convenience of using such keys. A different setup will probably make more sense to you, but just be sure to stick with it and build muscle-memory.

This is good practice in general, and will not only make you way better at many FPS games on PC, it also makes them way more fun

I play better when angry!!

I'm a really chill guy and I am not a big fan of games that make me go rage and really pull my hair out specially games like souls borne, but then there's doom I just don't know but usually at start of a level I really just try to use as much utility as possible to make the fights easier but as I keep losing and losing I get angry and then I just run super shotgun and literally hunt down them demons like I actually find evry fucking demon possible and hunt his ass down regardless of how powerful he is. I simply quit games when I start to feel a bit rageful and tired but doom just is an exception i love this game...

Hi OP, exactly the same thoughts ! I don't play this game, but I came from that pasta parody post you made and this post is even more relatable.

Sense of competition or Ego fuels anger, anger fuels motivation to get that trophy, which in normal case you and I wouldn't be that bothered about.

We are social animals at the end, programmed to compete and ensure survival. So the brain goes "hmm this game feels important maybe winning this game would help me achieve this dumb human's survival needs" and releases anger hormones and riles you up.

Can anyone share some tips/techniques they've memorized to play doom better?

Posted by SufficientBig1035 · in r/doomfistmains · 7 months ago

I'm really want to learn how to play doom and I know the basics like keeping an escape cooldown and knowing when to soft/hard engage. But I also don't feel like I'm getting enough picks or providing enough value to not just play hazard. I just had a game where I feel like I had equal amounts bad to equal amounts good and the replay is R7H5MS if anyone wants to see how I play normally on doom. But in that game I do play open queue because when I play doom I feel like I can't be a tank for my team, almost like doom is supposed to be a...dps hero...

tldr; I could use some tips to commit to muscle memory when playing doom

Doomfist is not a Tank. He is a bigger, healthier dps and needs to be played as such. (I have not watched the replay so I could be wrong here) Knowing how to ability cycle, position and be threatening is good, but if you're struggling to secure kills, to me that points to an aiming issue if not a target prioritisation issue. Your main damage output and kill confirmation always has been and always will be Hand Cannon. You gotta land those shots. All of Dooms abilities more or less serve as mobility and tanking first, Cc second and damage threat third, so Hand Cannon picks up that slack. And when it comes to target priority, you are the thing that deals with the squishy that poses the greatest threat, that doesn't always mean killing them though. Distracting or controlling them is enough value until a window opens up where you can secure the kill. If providing distraction or CC value isn't working, then you must look for alternate targets that don't have as much support behind them and pick them off to weaken everyone else.

Doomfist in ow2 is not only a tank, he’s the best designed tank in the game so far in regards to how dynamically he controls attention and space (the core function of a tank), and the tactical means through which he does so.. saying he’s needs to be played like a dps is vague and misleading for macro game sense

Had a lengthy look at the game! I assume you are Stormy, and it seemed like a QP game right?

It doesn’t really matter but you just usually coach ranked game (since they are typically more serious). But I think the game was competitive enough which is great!

I really didn’t know to what rank standards I should hold you to and if all these tips are too easy or impossibly hard you’ll have to excuse me. I tried to cover major points here and some things are just my play style and what works for me in similar situations. I may seem really nitpicky but that’s just because I think you had a good game in general. And this is NOT ment to be a harsh roast on your game. You may not agree with some of my points and that totally okay as well, there are tons of players that play doom very differently from me. If you thought I skipped something or have any questions you are more than welcome to ask =D!

I thought you did really well and have great potential on Doom! These are just some situations that I thought about while watching:

Your very first engage is worth talking about. I’m thinking you are going for an environmental kill there? You miss, slam out (all good). But then turn around to shoot. While you aren’t really low health, it is still best to just walk away there because your threat level without cd’s is really low especially past the 10m range. (You can of course till shoot on your way out)

Your first ult doesn’t get the value you want probably. I know it’s very easy to just panic Q when you are low. But even if it’s just a “throwaway ult” we want to use it for “maximum” value. That’s why the killfeed/comms are really important. You are the only one left fighting by the time you use it. Meteor strike will likely not kill anyone on its own but it’s a great escape/reengage tool. Personally I love to open fights with a deep dive, use all my cd’s and then ult. It can of course be used to survive like you do here, but it’s only really valuable if you are about to die early in the fight/ a close fight.

I like 2 point a lot from you. Many good decisions. Especially how you are playing by their bridge. Forcing them to waste cd’s while you also make space for your team. I like how aggressively you use meteor strike on the bridge. But you could go even more all in before using it. I almost never cancel my punch when I know I’m going to use meteor strike even if I think I’ll miss the punch. The only threat is Ana sleep, right, because in theory it could make you fly of the edge. But in reality the likelihood of that happening before you connect your punch is pretty minimal xD.

Some general tips:

Punch is a bit double edged because it is nice to yeet someone off the edge/into a wall. It’s significantly more threatening in a 1v1 than slam. But a missed punch almost always is going to be a bad time. With jump cancel your punch goes further then your slam with is really useful when disengaging. It’s also faster which means you can get out quicker and survive more. I do use a mix for engages but I tend to gravitate towards using slam (if I don’t have empowered punch) because it’s charging ult very fast if you hit multiple people and it’s relatively low risk. If I end up in a “brawl like” fight it’s also nice to have punch to cancel an ability or even ult. I only really use punch to engage close to mid distance where I’m fairly confident I wont miss. If I do miss I just try to get out instantly. Because: 1 I don’t get overhealth, 2 there isn’t really a reason for me to stay in a risk being caught by a cc ability.

Slam gets you overhealth and is very low risk. Stairslams is one of my favorite ways of keeping that constant pressure on the enemy. If you don’t know you how to perform one simply hold the s key while you slam and you’ll end up going pretty much nowhere while (on an incline). It isn’t really performed on this map much but the shortslam is. (Same thing but on flat/decline ground). Pretty good for like a pre-engage. Build up overhealth and some ult charge.

As doom you also kind of share work with a D.Va, you are expected to keep pressuring the high-ground. A good example would be around the 10 minute mark where you kind of go a bit too deep in their backline. Instead you can slam the Juno and Sym and force them of that vantage point beside you. It’s also a great place for you to be in. Because you can reach your own backline if needed. Always try to have a somewhat safe escape plan/route.

Don’t be afraid to get no value in an engage. It’s okay to just go in quick and go out even quicker. As long as you survive you can disrupt their team.

I’d also really like if you (together with your team) held even closer to their spawn on third point, like by the opening into the tower. But it is much trickier against hog so it’s doesn’t really apply to every matchup. In general geometry is your friend especially in these harder matchups use walls and pillars to make yourself harder to hit.

It’s always it’s good to practice aim and punch timing. But I think you got that down pretty well.

I’ve surely missed a ton of tips but there are some decent video guides on the different techs and stuff.

If you want to watch through your own games it’s often good to focus on your deaths first and see why and how it happened and if it was your decision that led to the death and if so how you could prevent it in the future. Good luck with playing Doom, it’s really fun and has very high potential but can also be tricky sometimes especially when playing against a lot of cc!

Playing Tank in Overwatch isn't always typically how "tanking" is defined in most other games. Tanking is usually basically being a bullet sponge, using your body and stuff to soak up damage for your teammates. In Overwatch, the prime example would be Reinhardt. You have a big shield that can block damage for your teammate. However, in Overwatch, tanks are designed more to take or hold space.

There are a lot of ways for you to be able to get value out of Doomfist, to be able to create space for your team. The obvious one is going for kills, but there are other ways. You can...

  1. Hold a choke by cycling your cooldowns. You can keep punching enemies back, and use your block to get punch up more often and punch them further with empowered punch. Your slam can be used to deal some extra damage to make them back up a bit.

  2. Displace enemies into bad positions, whether that be knocking them off of a high ground or punching them from out behind cover and allow your teammates to get an easy kill.

  3. Distract the enemy team's backline by applying pressure. Doomfist can pretty easily apply backline pressure and escape when needed, since Doomfist has some of the best mobility in the game. He's difficult to ignore since his kit can be quite lethal. There have been many times where I've just stayed at a safe distance away from the enemy backline and shot some random left-clicks to draw attention, enough to get 2-3 people to look at me. This effectively turns the fight into a 4 v. 3 or 4 v. 2 without having to make a risky play for an elim.

  4. Bait out cooldowns for your teammates. Let's say your Genji has his ult ready, but the enemy team has an Ana. If their Ana sleeps your Genji during his ult, he will lose all value on his ult and he is likely to end up dying. If you apply a lot of pressure to the Ana and force her to try to use her sleep dart on you, then it allows your Genji to get more value out of his ult. Even if you end up dying in the process, it might be beneficial since your Genji could get 2 or 3 kills.

There have been many games where I've realized that it's difficult for me to get direct value out of my kit because of the map and enemy team comp, but there's ways for me to give my teammates more value or to make it more difficult for the enemy team to get value. I just had a game a bit ago where I was on attack-side King's Row and just dicked around on the high ground behind the enemy backline. I really wasn't doing much, but just the fact that I was there led their supports to back up and lose LOS of their tank, which caused my dps to easily get a kill on the tank and move up to cap the point. I didn't even have 200 damage, and also died to the enemy team's Echo, but we capped the point quite quickly just because I made myself a presence, enough so that the rest of my team could pop off.

Only tech I regularly utilise apart from jump punches which should be standard is the stair slam, very big if you bare it in mind. Plan around it when baiting enemies back and you can get enough shields to fully charge punch in a big groups face

How to improve in DOOM 2016?

Posted by Depressing_Nugget · in r/Doom · 5 months ago

Hello friends. I'm a pretty casual doom player, and I've gotten both Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal quite recently (literally late last month as of this post) and I actually played Doom Eternal first simply because I bought it first because it was on discount. I've played in "hurt me plenty" and "ultra-violence" difficulties so far in Eternal, and after that, I decided to play Doom 2016, I finished my original run on "hurt me plenty" as well, but after my experience with Eternal, I wanted to try something more challenging (I play lots of souls likes, that's why)

and so far, Doom 2016 Nightmare mode is very very hard. As someone who got very used to Eternal, I find it quite difficult to play 2016, specifically because of the lack of movement options, and armor pick ups being not accessible using utility options (i.e. flame belch and upgraded meathook)

My main questions are: How do I improve in Doom 2016? Is there a way to improve my movement? (I've been dying to a lot of imp fireballs) Is there some hidden tech I am unaware of? And what are some general tips I can use to get better at Doom 2016?

P.S. I don't really like doing speed runs, I respect people who do, but personally it's not my thing, so I don't really consider skipping arenas, also I am aware of weapon quick swapping, but I'm not very good at it.

Ok, So I'm happy, I've so far gotten to chapter 5 on DSR my impossible run. (kinda rambly)

Posted by Jesterofgames · in r/DeadSpace · 1 year ago

I'm kinda tense (because 3 and a half hours of progress can get wiped out if I mess up.) but I have a DSR hitless video up. I've got a plan. and I'm mostly doing good in resources. Flame thrower + plasma cutter + grab spike to finish has been such a resource saving combo. (Though despite having contact beam on me, the game refuses to give me any ammo. So rip.) I also think I'm doing good on upgrades. I'm in the level 3 suit with my plasma cutter flame thrower and suit pretty decently upgraded. (well flamethrower less so but it's still getting the job done.)

I know I have some of the hardest parts of the game ahead of me. But I have hope. (though restartings gonna be a pain if I have to do so. But if I do I do have some info to remeber.)

And while I know there is a way to avoid restarting, I personally want to do Impossible as it was intended. (no shame on those who did do this though. Time is a valuable thing, and not wanting to restart a 8-9 hour game is completely valid.) But on the bright side I do remember some rough points/things to skip if I do. So I am learning. (This is technically my second attempt. I got hit/messed up a lot in the early encounters and said screw it since I wasn't even 20 minutes into the game.)

But I have learned I definitely still love remake, even after 3 playthoughs soon to be 4. . And while I think it's kinda lame that they did Hard Mode, but with perma death for the hardest difficulty, I do appreciate them trying.

I just finished my 5th play through a couple days ago. Such a good game. My 4th play through was my impossible run. I focused on upgrading my suit and a Plasma pistol only and I’m glad I did. It helps with ammo and also by the time I finish the run I had completely upgraded my suit plasma cutter and every node for every weapon. Because I only had a plasma cutter equipped I got a ton of plasma ammo and credits instead of random Ammo

yeah, but flame thrower helps a lot in certain segments. and can insta kill guardians. Which helps. A lot. Plus with a guide and such I've actually been getting a lot of nodes to keep everything evenly upgraded.

With stasis fully upgraded it makes a quick work of the guardians. But I can’t fault you for using the flamethrower it can be useful. I just didn’t like keeping it clipped because I told him they can’t be giving me too much fuel for it and not enough fuel for the plasma cutter which is more versatile. I had to restart my impossible run in chapter 9 in the nuke chamber. I successfully killed both the enemies in that room without exploding anything. But when I was hitting the fuses I accidentally hit the dead exploders arm at the same time. Lotta work went down the drain on that one lol

The thing if you did 2/3runs back to back already you should be familiar with what to do and the advice I can give doing impossible run is don't think of it as you're doing it on "Impossible run" difficulty just play it normally as you usual do and you'll beat it believe me, that's what I did and beat it first go.

I just looked up a no hit guide. Helped with strategies/knowing what’s coming though I didn’t follow it exactly.

Just don't think of it as "Impossible" difficulty and you will be able do finish it no problem 👌, for me I finished the game 2 times before doing it on impossible difficulty and what I can say is not much changes in certain difficulty as the enemy's spawns exactly where they are suppose to be, BUT! me saying that I do get 1 or 2 enemies that spawn randomly at times that's the only thing that you cannot predict.

Respect the legit playthrough, I personally found the environmental sections like Centrifuge, Mining and especially Cargo Bay were the worst. Keep an eye for those

Jesterofgames · OP · 1 year ago

i"m not certian if it's completely "legit." Since I do reserve the option to quit and load if an encounter goes horrible and while I didn't die, I know I could have done better. (Which I feel does carry some risk as I can absolutely die retrying the encounter and if I die. well I guess I die then and am back to the start.)

Oh yeah the one hit kill sections are… terrifying to me.

So are both leviathan encounters and a few specific encounters later in the game. (One of which is the mining deck the encounter after clearing the debris.)

Huuuuuh I was so glad to complete this as my second run ever of the game I had to do it 2 times cause my first run I died getting too close to one of the insta kill walls right before the final chapter my wife never saw me so defeated and pissed the next day I started a new run and I did it in 2 days cause of work so satisfying 😌 good luck

If you haven't already, I suggest completing the side missions while also hunting down the weapon parts.

They WILL be helpful.

Oh I already beat impossible. I did nicole and mercer’s side quests. But eventually decided to say screw it with the master override side quest. My flamethrower and plasma cutter where doing the job just fine as it was.

Not a speed runner, but I’ll probably try to use this so I don’t have to watch the cut scene each time!

I think speedrunners are flying through the skybox here or something and skipping the whole thing lol. Might be useful for a version where they can't go outside the map or something I guess.

Too add on to this, as far as I know this works on toys, the granade launchers and albums

Works on anything that plays an animation that you pickup. Very neat for UN runs. Looking at the sentinel battery animation gets tiring after 40 runs.

Yeah, that’s known. Just weapon swap right before picking up something and you can avoid the animation.

Don't be afraid to use a charged punch as an escape. It's just a charge, you can get it back with another block. I see too many Dooms try to get value with a charge punch when they'd be better off falling back to their team.

On that note, don't be afraid to use cooldowns to disengage. Doom isn't a sponge tank, he's meant to go in, disrupt, and get out. If you can get a kill on a player out of position or who wasted cooldowns, great, but you don't need to get a kill every single engage.

What i do is i go in woth slam try to get a kill if i fall or succeed i use block then i punch again then i get out with slam

Is good tactic. But keep track of they CC abilities or if they have any.

Do you actually mean you slam in and THEN punch the target in order for them to get stunned so you can land a handcanon shot easier. After that you block in order to get empowered punch. And punch them again afterwards.

But i m sure you meant that when you mentioned that you would punch AGAIN after block.

Sure thing! The most important tip I have for you is that being flashy and doing cool rollouts is not necessary. Focus on getting reliable value before learning those. However, a couple of techs I think are very important are punch cancel and slam cancels. Punch cancel is when you charge punch, and when you are moving forward, you jump to send you farther, but you will cancel your punch, it's strictly for moving. Slam cancel is when you cancel slam to avoid the landing part. You can do this by either pressing slam again shortly after you activate it, or to use a different ability immediately after, which will send you farther. Hope this helps!

Alright, so I watched your game, and I have a few things to say. first off, great job cancelling emp, that was cool. I noticed you are fighting the enemy tank too much. with Doom, the tank isn't your priority, and you should only really go after them if they overextend and you can punish, if you can cancel an important ability, or if they are low and you can finish them off. You also use slam cancelling with punch a lot, and its messed you up a decent bit. Doing that uses both movement abilities to get in, leaving you with only block to try and disengage. I recommend either slamming in or punching in, and then using the other ability to get out. If you have meteor strike, you can commit both abilities more, since you can ult to escape. Also, try to avoid diving into the full team. Go for isolated targets, such as snipers, supports, and then focus on other dps, and lastly the tank. I have some videos you should watch that will help you out: https://youtu.be/g2rOz_KUx1E?si=C6zcWPv_7acrkcsz ZBRA's guide to tank Doom. https://youtu.be/ftf3tpmZQKQ?si=mcnBn7MWvck-qdXH GQO's guide. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQxvI5bhR59UbDk1CpTjrQn8GCgkPY2Ph&si=QQXzSTsOWJ6Lvt7B GQO's movement tech playlist. I highly recommend watching these, and do a better job explaining things than me. Hope this helps, sorry for the wall of text, and keep practicing, you'll get up the ranks in no time, I believe in you.

question: what do YOU think are the most important techs on doom?

1 upvotes on reddit
Cheedogmans · 1 year ago

Me? I'd say punch cancel, slam cancel, stair slam, and super slam.

In that case, remember this: don't expect your support to come for you, it's on you to get out. Also, really practice that hand cannon aim. It's a beast up close.

most important thing is to use cover. you are pretty squishy for a tank so never just run around and expect not to die.

you can engage with slam but be aware that you have to get out of the situation. so you rather engage with punch or you slam in the backline behind cover, wait for 2/3/4 seconds than engage with punch kill a squishy and get out again.

best way to get empowered punch is shoot (to get attention) - punch - block

getting sleepdarted/ junk trapped/ or stunned (not cass flashbang) equals death most of the time so try to bait dart, after that you can engage

my own rule is to get back to supports when i am below 200hp or go for mega

dont hard engage when they have a sombra in the backline

if they have an ana and you wanna kill her land your ult and hold slam button down to immediately bait her dart

MOST IMPORTANT RULE: KEYBIND AND DEY SAY VOICELINE AND NEVER SWAP

Siberian4 · OP · 1 year ago

The part with never swap os hard due to the fact that im a queen/ram main soo yre or if im getting hard countered. And my own personal rule t bag every single mauga or orisa

Sometimes you have to look out for your teamates. If they die you will probably lose too. Look for enemy flankers like Sombra or Tracer. If an Hog tries to hook someone try to disrupt him with punch or shield your ally with block or your body before Hog can kill him with his second shot.

Peel for them occationally. You primary goal is to win not get K/D. Adapt to your team instead the other way around.

doom speedrun strategies

Key Considerations for Doom Speedrun Strategies:

  1. Familiarity with Levels: Knowing the layout of each level is crucial. Spend time learning the maps to find the fastest routes and shortcuts.

  2. Weapon Selection: Use weapons that maximize damage output while minimizing reload times. The shotgun and super shotgun are often favored for their effectiveness against enemies.

  3. Movement Techniques:

    • Bunny Hopping: Mastering bunny hopping can significantly increase your speed. This involves jumping while strafing to maintain momentum.
    • Dashing: Utilize dashes (if available in the game version) to cover ground quickly and evade enemies.
  4. Enemy Manipulation: Learn how to manipulate enemy spawns and behaviors to avoid unnecessary fights. Sometimes, it’s faster to run past enemies rather than engage.

  5. Use of Power-ups: Make strategic use of power-ups like Berserk, Quad Damage, and others to clear areas quickly and efficiently.

  6. Glitches and Exploits: Familiarize yourself with any glitches or exploits that can save time, such as clipping through walls or skipping sections of levels.

  7. Practice and Timing: Regular practice is essential. Use timing tools to track your runs and identify areas for improvement.

Recommendation: Start by watching speedrun videos from top players on platforms like Twitch or YouTube. This will give you insights into advanced techniques and strategies. Additionally, consider joining speedrunning communities on forums or Discord to share tips and get feedback on your runs.
