TL;DR
Recommended Models
Several gaming laptops have been recommended across discussions for those looking to spend under $1000. The ASUS ROG Strix G16 with an RTX 4060 graphics card and i7 13650HX processor is praised for its performance and is available around the $1000 mark [3:2]. Another option is the Acer Nitro V, which also features an RTX 4060 but with an i9 13900H processor, priced at approximately $950
[3:2].
The Lenovo Legion 5 with a Ryzen 7 processor is another popular choice in this budget range, known for its solid performance [4:2]. While not explicitly mentioned as under $1000, open box deals or sales might make it accessible within the budget.
Performance Considerations
When choosing a gaming laptop, it's important to consider the type of games you intend to play. High refresh rate displays (around 144Hz) and dedicated GPUs like the RTX 4060 are essential for most modern games [1:1]. The processor series can significantly impact performance; HX series processors generally offer better performance compared to H series
[3:2].
Budget Brands vs Premium Brands
Budget gaming laptops often come from the same manufacturers as premium models but typically feature less robust builds and lower-quality screens [2:1]. However, they offer better price-to-performance ratios. Brands such as Lenovo LOQ, Asus TUF, Acer Nitro, HP Victus, and MSI Katana are noted for their affordability and decent performance
[2:1].
Additional Considerations
Battery life and storage are other critical factors when selecting a gaming laptop. The ASUS Zephyrus G14 was mentioned as having a strong battery life, though it may slightly exceed the $1000 budget [4:1]. It's advisable to look for laptops with at least 16GB RAM and a capable GPU like the RTX 2060 or 1660 Ti for optimal performance
[4:3].
Ultimately, selecting the right gaming laptop depends on balancing your specific needs, such as game preferences and additional uses beyond gaming [1:2], with the best available deals and specifications within your budget.
I want to get my first gaming device. I know it probably isn't a good idea to buy a laptop rather than a desktop PC but I don't really want to get a PC as my first gaming device. I cannot spend more than $1300 on the laptop. I have no idea about this stuff. I'm looking for recommendations of some of the best gaming laptops under $1300 so that I could pick between them depending on what's best for me. I really need recommendations as I have no idea about this stuff and I don't really want to spontaneously buy something with my half-assed ideas. I've got time so don't let that deter you from replying even if it's after a while.
What games do you like to play? Any preferences on screen resolution? And do you intend to use this laptop for anything beyond gaming?
I like shooter games mostly. I do like a lot of other games but mainly shooters.
Well with that knowledge in mind your def going to want to get a high refresh rate display, probably around 144hrts & also a dedicated gpu laptop for most games so your honestly limited only by the price you can get in a laptop with highest power one you can find under 1300 which means you more then likely are looking at a ether a 4060 or if you can find a good deal maybe 4070. That's where I'd start tho and see what your local deals look like.
I'm looking to get a new gaming laptop without spending a fortune. What do you think are the best affordable gaming laptops right now in terms of performance, display quality, and battery life? Does anyone have experience with models under $1,000? How do budget brands compare to the more well-known gaming laptop brands?
Most budget gaming laptops are made by the same companies as expensive ones (take Lenovo LOQ vs Legion, Asus TUF vs Zephyrus/Strix, etc). The cheaper brands are usually less well-built (more plastic) and have less premium screens (IPS instead of MiniLED/OLED, max brightness, contrast, color accuracy, etc). The budget lines usually have better price to performance ratios however.
IMO best budget lines are LOQ and TUF, then Nitro, Victus, Katana. There aren't any with long battery life on a good sale right now; check gaminglaptop.deals every now and then. Look for a Ryzen CPU that's NOT 7435hs to get good battery.
Hello all! First time poster here. I'm looking for recommendations on a gaming laptop for $1000 or under. I am completely new to PC gaming, not to mention a portable laptop platform, and I'm coming from a console gaming background. (PS5 being my latest) I'm honestly overwhelmed by all the options out there, and any input you could offer would be very much appreciated.
In short, I'm looking for the best graphical performance I can get for $1000 or less while still being sturdy and portable. I usually have access to a power source, so extremely lengthy battery life isn't a necessity. As far as what games I've been playing and intend on continuing to play on PC: Elden Ring, Baldurs Gate 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, Chivalry 2, among others similar. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!
Honestly, I would go for a ROG Strix G16 with RTX 4060 and i7 13650HX which is available on amazon for about 1000 - 1100 dollars. You could also go for the Acer Nitro V with RTX 4060 and i9 13900H at a price of 950 USD.
However, do keep in mind that H series processors are usually 30 - 40% slower than HX series processors, in this case I'd say the i9 13900 H is about 25% slower than the i7 13650HX. If your going for the ASUS ROG Strix G16 grab it as soon as possible because it's available on an offer.
Thanks for the timely reply! That ROG Strix G16 looks awesome. I found two other laptops in the same price range with similar specs. I made a separate post to see if you or anyone else could help me choose between the three. You've already been very helpful, so no worries of you don't, but feel free to chime in on the discussion if you're interested. Cheers!
So after about 8 years it is time to retire my Alienware laptop (no more space, old, doesn't hold a charge) , so I am looking to buy a new gaming laptop. However I am not looking to get another Alienware.... they are too expensive. I guess technically I am downgrading, but don't have 2k to spend on some beast of a machine.
I want to know what is the best or what are some good gaming laptops with good storage and battery life for under $1000? Good battery life is probably the thing I want the most. Any suggestions?
Realistically looking in the $800 range. Also a fingerprint scanner would be a cool addition, but not required. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this!!!
Legion 5 ryzen 7 is a banger for 1k
Hmm... Seems good. But also nervous about the bad reviews on Amazon
For that range of price, maybe your best shot is to look for something with a max-p 2060 or 1660 ti gpu with an 6-8 core intel or ryzen cpu, minimum 16gb ram,
Since the 3000 rtx series arrived 3 months ago, prices dropped like 15 to 20 % in many machines, many of them in the 850 to 999 dlls us.
Find an open box deal from Best Buy on an ASUS Zephyrus G14 with the Ryzen 9 and RTX 2060. Might stretch your budget just barely. But it's a competent mid-range gamer with a POWERHOUSE CPU and a real 7-10 hour battery life for office/school stuff. Cons are no webcam, and a bit of ghosting (motion blur) from the otherwise good screen.
I’m thinking of getting one but I don’t know which one is good. I want something under 1,000 and can run a lot of games and has good storage.
Don't know of any, but it would be a good idea to include the games you plan on running.
Looking to get a laptop for casual gaming. It doesn't have to be the best just something to play the latest games. Thanks in advance.
Are you in need of good to decent battery life?
Not particularly, but it have to be somewhat decent I think
Maybe look into the HP Victus reviews (whenever they come out)
Could also try the Acer Nitro 5 (3050 ti) which is $1100, but maybe Black Friday/Cyber Monday to get under $1000
If you are open to used products, look into Best Buy's "Open-Box" program; The Asus G14 (2060) could be found for under $1000 with that program (but watch out for some QC issues)
Asus TUF (3050 ti) at $999: I believe to have a nice battery but runs hot
MSI GF65 (3060), but I am not sure about the battery
Legion 5 (1660 ti, i7)
Sorry for the long list lol, I hope you find something that will make you happy!
Thanks a ton man, I'll definitely take look at these
I need a new laptop and I’ve always wanted a gaming laptop. I currently have an old ass Macbook that I can’t play squat on it.
Any recommendations for laptop models/brands that will cost me around/under $1200?? :,)
I’ve been browsing but I don’t know a lot about computers or what to look for really. I want a computer I can download and play a lot of ‘big sized’ games on (like World of Warcraft, League of Legends, and a bunch of other mmos and rpgs), have it run smoothly, and I’m open to buying additional storage drives for it.
Other cool features besides gaming capabilities are appreciated <3 Thank youuu
Definitely spend some time looking around for deals, but I see an Omen or the more budget friendly A16 has some pretty nice 32gb, high storage options on amazon if you're in the US.
Make sure you understand what size you want (14 is portable, 15/16 are pretty standard, 17/18 is large), and go over reviews for different models as not all 4060s are built equal and obviously different brands/models have different build materials and styles.
TUF, LOQ, and Nitro are popular budget lines. Omen, Predator and a few Legion/Zephyrus models are some mid tier options.
Hey all. I'm looking to buy myself a gaming laptop because my computer is getting old and I'm going away to college. The only requirements I'm looking for is at most $1000 and that it can run games at least decent. I've tried doing my own research but every time I check reviews there's always something that goes wrong and I just don't know what to look for. Any recommendations?
There are plenty of 4060 and 4070 laptops in the $1000 price range. Either laptop should be able to handle newer games for at least a couple of years, although some games you will have to play at lower graphics to get playable frame rates.
You want a minimum of 16gb of ram and ideally 32gb if in budget. You’ll probably have to get a 1080p or 1200p screen and ssd with 512 storage or maybe 1tb. As for processors, it’s a personal preference, but I’d try and find a laptop with an amd ryzen. If you live in the us check best buy or amazon for deals.

Its will cost 1074 with offer for 1tb storage.
Hi reddit! I wanna play Dota, Poe, Crk, and many other games. I never played on laptop/pc before, only on mobile, so a beginner friendly laptop would be great and thats easy to learn! Under 1000$ would be nice. Thank you reddit!
If you mean under 1000 USD:

That's a great price.
BB has a sale going on rn found a 5070ti for like 1200 and was almost going to pull the trigger.
Yeah a 4060 for sub-$1000 is very good.
As is a 5070ti for $1200!
Holy shit. Thanks dude. Been looking for a place that ships to Ghana and the shipping calculation cost is very fucking reasonable. Do you think (if you have any experience of course) there'll be an added charge or you'd say the shipping quote is spot on?
I’m sorry I don’t know, I’m in the UK so I don’t know what the shipping situation between the US and Ghana is (I know for us here in the UK, we’d have to pay VAT on arrival in the UK which would be an additional 20%!).
Look on eBay - Just got the last refurbished Acer predator 14 on there for a little under 1k tax included ($899+ tax) while the original price was 2k. 55% off is a good bargain imo
Look at Best Buy open box, they have sub $1000 zephyrus laptops, which are good if you want a macbook like thin professional looking laptop that’s portable and powerful enough for games. Otherwise if you’re ok with a thick beast look at the lenovo legion sales. The lower end versions of these would be the Tuf and LOQ series respectively. Really try to get something with at least 8 gigabytes of VRAM; it’s basically a requirement these days for any new game at the very minimum, so don’t get any Nvidia graphics card that ends in 50
It would mostly be for offline games like payday 2 and fallout 4 sometimes rainbow six siege does anyone have any recommendations. I've been looking at the Lenovo legion y520 and it seems decent but I don't know much about gaming laptops so I really don't know if it is good or not. Thanks in advance
If you have a microcenter near you, this is a great value imo...

I picked one up and I'm very happy with it.
The Legion Y520 is a decent entry level gaming system with a very gamerish look. If you can stretch your budget a bit, consider taking a look at the new -> Legion Y530. It packs the latest 8th gen 6 core processor and GTX 1050 TI. Here's one video review to give you a better idea. Best if you can check it out at your local stores and see if it works for you. Good luck!
