Gluten-Free Pasta
One of the standout gluten-free options at Olive Garden is their gluten-free rotini with meat sauce. Many customers have praised it for tasting just like regular pasta, and some have even taken extra servings home [1]. However, there are concerns about cross-contamination, as some diners have reported issues with the pasta being cooked in the same water as regular pasta
[2:1]. It's advisable to confirm with the restaurant staff about their preparation methods if you have a severe gluten intolerance or celiac disease.
Dining Experience and Precautions
Some diners have had positive experiences with Olive Garden's handling of gluten-free requests. For example, one customer mentioned that a manager came by to discuss how their meal was prepared and what precautions were taken [1:5]. This suggests that Olive Garden may take extra steps to accommodate gluten-free patrons, but it's always best to communicate your dietary needs clearly when ordering.
Other Menu Considerations
While Olive Garden offers gluten-free pasta, they currently do not offer gluten-free breadsticks, which are a popular item on their menu [3:1]. Additionally, there are limited dessert options for those who are gluten-free, although they do provide gluten-free Andes mints as an alternative treat
[4:3].
Cross-Contamination Concerns
There is a significant concern among diners about cross-contamination at Olive Garden. Some former employees and customers have noted that while the pasta itself is gluten-free, it might be cooked using shared equipment or water, leading to potential contamination [2:1]
[3:1]. It's recommended to inquire directly with the staff about their cooking practices to ensure safety.
Recommendations Beyond Olive Garden
For those seeking a more assured gluten-free dining experience, some users recommend trying other Italian restaurants that cater specifically to gluten-free diets. For instance, Mangia in Nashville offers a completely gluten-free multi-course meal upon request, as the owner's wife is celiac [1:6]. Exploring local eateries known for their gluten-free options might provide a safer and more enjoyable dining experience.
My cousin and I were out shopping and she suggested Olive Garden; I said okay knowing I probably wouldn’t be able to eat anything. They had a gluten free rotini with a meat sauce that I had gotten and IT WAS AMAZING!!!! Every pasta I try to cook at home comes out all mushy and soft. This pasta tasted exactly like regular pasta. Olive Garden waiters and waitresses, tell me your secrets!
Without using separate pasta water they should not even consider claiming it to be GF, but it would not surprise me.
So many Italian places don’t. It’s mind boggling. I used to call them out on it, and would get “well we say it’s gf because the pasta is gf” and when I tried explaining once you share the water it’s no longer gf, I would basically just get a shrug and a ”that’s why we say it’s “gluten sensitive” ( Olive Garden) or ”gluten friendly” (other places I’ve been)“. Now I just call and ask and if they use shared water, I just don’t go. If you can’t do that basic safety step, what other steps are you skipping in the kitchen?
If y'all like GF pasta, try Jovial. Its AMAZING
No kidding! I just had their rotini an hour ago! It's so crazy because you cant even tell it's gf imo. I was extremely satisfied with my meal and I even requested a second plate of it to take home haha.
Does the dish have dairy? I figure most their stuff does, in some shape or form, but thought I'd ask. I thought I was just lactose and pork intolerant, but recently tested positive for beef and pork allergies, so I'm trying to avoid dairy, since they suspect alpha gal.
I don't believe so. You can get it with different types of sauces that you specifically choose. But I do know they have an allergen menu in case you want to know the specific ingredients. That's always helped my personally because I am also lactose intolerant. I'm also still learning and adjusting to ordering when eating out, so I hope this helps a little!
Went last week and the waitress let us know that because I ordered gf due to allergy, a manager would come by to speak with me. She went over how the kitchen cooks my meal and what precautions they were taking. She also informed me they didn't have any deserts I could have but they would bring me extra mints! I had a great experience and really felt like they have stepped up their game since the last time I visited.
There’s a place in Nashville called Manga. You have to get a reservation and they do this sit down multi-course Italian meal. The owner/chef’s wife is Celiac so if you specify gluten free, they do it completely gf and you still eat the same food as everyone else. It is marvelous.
Thanks for the info. I’m 90 miles from Nashville but I might take my daughters there for Father’s Day. Hearing the owner knows so much about Celiac is reassuring
Thank you so much for this!! I grew up in Nashville, and my parents are still there. They always go above and beyond for me when I visit, it's so sweet. Next time I go out there, it will be nice to take them somewhere new that we all can eat at. 💗🙏🏻
Thanks for the tip. I’m close enough to Nashville that we could probably make dinner there sometime. I think autocorrect got you, though. I googled it and it’s called Mangia
Cook an extra 2 minutes(11 minutes instead of 9) from what it says then immediately hit with cold water to stop the cooking process. Comes out perfect. Just made it last night.
I went to Olive Garden last night with my family. I did my research and decided on Gluten free rotini with meat sauce. I told our waitress that I have a gluten and dairy intolerance and she made note and took my order. When she brought my food to the table to said “gluten free pasta with meat sauce” handed me my food. I felt at ease and ate my food. I started bloating and having stomach cramps as we were paying the bill. All night I was in so much pain and discomfort. I don’t think i’ll feel comfortable going out to eat for a while ☹️☹️☹️☹️
I get this bloated too. May I ask if you're celiac? I'm not
sorry for the late response, no i’m not celiac i was recently tested
So weird that we get this bloated and aren’t even Celiac
I don’t trust chain restaurants like that, they don’t actually care about allergens. I’m so sorry this happened to you!
Oh!! I'm so sorry. Ugh 😕
Thats how I get. I feel your pain. Hope you feel better soon.
Olive Garden usually cooks the gf pasta with the regularly pasta. I’ve gotten gf pasta with regular pasta mixed in. I don’t trust them anymore honestly. They don’t change the pots let alone throw water
If gluten free breadsticks at olive garden ever become a thing, I will personally be taking credit 😂
If they can make their Alfredo sauce gf to dip them in I will never eat anything again.
Okay former employee here… technically they CAN but it is not offered on the menu and the cooks hate doing it. Literally the only difference is that they just don’t put any flour in the sauce. OG Alfredo is notoriously quite thick and a bit chunky so whenever they take the flower out, it just makes it a bit runny, which I don’t personally like, but I did technically serve a guest one time who requested the GF rotini pasta with the special made Alfredo and the cooks got extremely upset. But the manager was the one who offered it so 😂
Yeah, I was assuming it wasn’t a huge deal to leave it out as most recipes I’ve seen it’s not much. I don’t even want the pasta, I just want to dunk bread into it 🤣
Because why do I pay full price for soup salad and bread sticks and I can’t have croutons or bread sticks. I think the Gluten Free menu needs to be priced to remove the things we have to exclude.
is the pasta gluten free
I love you just whipped out that recipe for a stranger to dip their nonexistent gluten free Olive Garden breadsticks in! Take my upvote, sending thoughts of sunshine love your way, you have a kind and generous spirit, may you be that way always my friend!
There’s nothing better. That particular kind is soooo chewy the way I remember fresh wheat pasta being 🥺
I mean, if red lobster can do it . . . They're owned by the same company, aren't they?
Red lobster doesn't do it in the restaurant do they, it's just a home thing
Honestly, there's so much wheat in Olive Garden I wouldn't trust that they would be able to prevent cross contamination.
That’s totally valid! I’ve never had much trouble with cross contamination, but it’s totally understandable for folks who do
Darden group right?
My family wanted to do Olive Garden for our big extended Christmas this year. I convinced them to get different food lol. I told my husband that olive gardens food wasn’t good enough to risk getting sick off of😂
Funny story is before my diagnosis my family and I used to go there pretty often. But after diagnosis last year I obviously didn't wanna risk any kinds of contamination which is a little hard to do at places like this.
But yknow.
Those little chocolates they give after everything are gf so woo. 😂😂😂
All different flavors of Andes mints have been available at my local Target, and all of them have been labelled GF! Even the cookie ones!
We have some that come in a red wrapper with a little strip of cherry chocolate in the middle, they are to DIE for
That’s because all candy made by Tootsie Roll Inc. is gf and produced in a gluten/peanut free facility.
Yummy! I'll have to try those! 😋
when I discovered the Reese's with pretzels (NOT the take5) were gluten free I cried with joy
Yep agreed, got one of those and one of the potato chip ones in my stocking for Christmas this year and they are sooooo good
Looove the cookie ones!
Yes! I love the cherry ones.
Does sanitary wipes do anything for gluten?
They're probably handled by employees that handle breadsticks...gotta wipe down the outside first lol
Also the most delicious offering at Olive Garden
GF Sicilian style pizza in the Hudson Valley! You can find this gorgeous babe at Ollie’s in High Falls, NY. It was spongey and the crust was so crunchy on the bottom. One of the best gluten free pizza’s I’ve ever had. 😭
for anyone on the west coast—square pie guys in the bay area CA does a really good one too! OP i’m so jealous, that basil looks picturesque 🤩
Oh that looks wonderful!
UM WOW. I NEED THIS
looks great!
Omg I looked this place up in the fall and they didn’t have GF on the menu!!! This is amazing news 😍
I’m not GF, my wife is. I buy these because it tastes like normal pizza to me and we can both eat it.
I eat normal pizza all the time, this tastes like normal pizza.
This is exactly what my non celiac wife says about these too. Was diagnosed at 36 so I know what good pizza tastes like. Freschetta is about as good as it gets when it comes to GF frozen pizza.
Def. one of the best!
Second this. Hands down best frozen GF pizza out there
I'll have to give this a try. Been using the Costco Kirkland cauliflower crust pizza and it is really good too!
I’m pretty sure the Costco GF cheese pizza 3 pack Sabatasso’s brand is a rebranded GF freschetta pizza, 3 for $16 instead of one for $12. I ate the freschetta one for years before switching and I swear it’s the same pizza
I always get the Costco GF Sabatassos and it’s hands down the best GF frozen pizza. I was wondering the same thing about Freschetta. I’ll buy one and do a side by side
I agree! They taste exactly the same to me!
I get these for a celiac, cut it mostly frozen and keep the rest in the freezer for the next pizza night. Makes the cost feel more reasonable lol
Brilliant! I never realized that would be an option. I only ever eat half of one. I add any toppings I like and cook away. Thanks for the tip.
I think this one was 12 through Amazon Fresh. Used to paying almost that at the grocery store for smaller GF Pizza that isn't that good anyways.
This is and always will be the best gluten free pizza. Perfect every time.
My friend said they are, but I have a high gluten intolerance and don’t want to end up sick!
Hello no
I already ate them. I’m so sick. It hurts.
What made you think that breadsticks would be gluten free?
Lmao
Fuck u and your gluten tolerance. Piece of shit fake ass tolerance.
Gluten never an issue for the last thousands of years and you fad hipsters make this shit up. Fuck off
You sir must live a very miserable life to get that upset over a question about gluten. I feel sorry for you. Bless your heart.
Gluten isn’t real

Help! I ate them. What do I do? I’m so sick
I'm a bot, bleep, bloop. Someone has linked to this thread from another place on reddit:

Hello all, I am new to the diet and starting to get relief but still in the reintroduction phase. It is such a challenge to not be able to know what to eat as I am starting to be able to see family again. I am feeling a little deprived as I see other get to enjoy foods that I just can't have.
I have a dinner coming up at Olive garden and I am struggling to figure out what I can eat. I know they have gluten free pasta but I am not sure how to avoid garlic/onions. I would appreciate any tips!
This was one of the worst places you could have dinner during elimination phase.
You could have stopped at dinner.
It's Olive Garden. I could have stopped at places.
Salad with no dressing. Have them bring the oil and vinegar to the table for you to add. If you crave protein look for a salad with egg. 4 gin and tonics and a glass of red wine. There's too much sugar in whites.
Gin and soda*. Tonic at Olive Garden will probably have hfcs in it.
I promise you that any soda they have will have HFCS in it, unless you mean seltzer water.
Or even bring your own dressing! I bring my home made ranch with me sometimes
How do you make ranch without garlic and onion? Well I suppose green onion, but do you just omit garlic?
Can you suggest going somewhere else? Like to get sushi or steak?
EDIT: My boyfriend gave me this gold lmao
I usually research the menu and/or call ahead if it's somewhere new.
Sometimes I have no input on the place picked, but I want to go along to socialize. If I think I won't get a filling meal, I eat beforehand so I'm not starving. I have eaten a super small and plain house salad before just to have something to pick at while we socialize. It is frustrating, but I try to focus on the point being spending time with the people and not what I eat.
... Probably the most valid point so far. Stay in, eat FODMAP friendly, people. For the sake of literally everyone.
Oh Olive Garden is super hard- I think like 5 years ago I tried to find something- and there was only like one thing I could get- and with modifications... they do have a menu that lists all allergens including dairy and gluten
at some restaurants where I can't find anything- I just ask them if they can make chicken plain with just plain salt- no butter. And like plain rice or French fires (watch for seasoning on French fries). Not sure if they can do that- but it works at some places. Calling ahead when the restaurant is not busy sometimes helps as well- I think more at fancier or independent places. But lots of restaurants are willing to accommodate special requests if you let them know ahead of time.
hope that helps
Yum
DUDE IT DID NOT LOOK THAT BAD QUALITY BEFORE
don't remove this mods pls 😭
I want it
No molten cheese (not sure though), no browning, fresh basil, white onions. Has that thing even seen an oven?
Getting tired of restaurants taking advantage of gluten free diets. My husband and I went out for dinner and the gluten free up charge was $8!!! For gluten free pasta.😑
I had a salad, cause ain't no way
It's a tiny local spot so I'd rather not spread the name. But I left a review so if gf people search the restaurant, they'll be warned!
may i ask what part of the country or what state you live in? i ask because i live in the midwest but i am currently visiting Cali, i swear i feel free here and not like an odd ball because i do not eat gluten. 🙄
My brother is a chef and he explained that we're paying a buck or two for the bun/noodles, a buck for storage space because it needs a GF spot to sit, a large part of the charge is paying for the time it takes to take a chef off the line, scrub the gluten off them, and move them to the GF zone where they spend five or ten minutes making one dish instead of five or ten. And the rest is a nuisance charge to stop idiots from ordering GF pasta with a regular beer
Plus if they buy a pack of gf buns and only sell one before they go off, that’s an expense
Yeah. I don't like paying the premium, but I get it. And I've been GF long enough to remember when 95% of restaurants couldn't even make me a side salad, so a couple bucks for a bun prepared by someone trained in preventing cross-contamination isn't the end of the world
There are some regular beers that have acceptably low levels of gluten. Judging others in this situation is ignorant.
3-4 dollars an upcharge I get due to GF items being more expensive and to clean up the kitchen but anything more than that....no
Omg they share the water?
I hate when they have the upcharge for gluten free noodles at a ramen place but then when you ask they share the water.
The gf bun was a $6 upcharge. We decided we weren't going there again.
Both of those are wild. Definitely don’t go back.
Was it still packaged in plastic?
