What Redditors are Saying

Best Gluten-Free Pasta Brands

Jovial

Jovial is frequently praised across multiple discussions for its texture and taste, closely resembling traditional pasta [1:1][1:5]. It comes in various shapes and is noted for holding up well to sauces and cold pasta salads [3:4]. Many users have recommended Jovial as their go-to gluten-free pasta brand, with some even preferring it over regular pasta [2:6][5:1].

Rummo

Rummo is another highly recommended brand, appreciated for its texture that mimics regular pasta [1:3][2:7]. However, it is noted to be sensitive to cooking times, requiring careful attention to avoid overcooking [3:2]. Despite this, many users find it worth the effort due to its excellent quality [3:9].

Tinkyada

Tinkyada is favored by those who prefer rice-based pasta. It is known for having a good texture, especially when cooked al dente [2:3][5:2]. Users recommend avoiding overcooking to maintain its texture [5:2].

Barilla

Barilla is mentioned as a reliable option, often compared to traditional pasta in terms of taste [4:1][5:6]. While it may not be as favorable for leftovers, it remains a popular choice among gluten-free pasta consumers [4:3].

Other Noteworthy Brands

Several other brands were mentioned, including Garofalo, Le Veneziane, and Sanniti, which are praised for their authentic Italian pasta qualities [2:1][5:4]. Good & Gather from Target also received positive feedback for its taste and affordability [5:3][5:8].

In conclusion, while Jovial and Rummo seem to be the top contenders for best gluten-free pasta, preferences can vary based on individual tastes and cooking methods. It's advisable to try different brands to find the one that suits your palate and dietary needs best.

ORIGINAL POST

Our daughter was recently diagnosed with IBS. She has always loved pasta but it’s clearly triggering reactions such that she’s missing work. For the pasta lovers out there, any recommendations of tasty gluten-free pasta brands apart from Barilla (which did not do the job, alas)? Thanks!

Brown rice pasta, it's FODMAP free and cheaper than most GF pasta. The texture is definitely not the same, but I've learned to live with it.

Trader Joe's makes one that's just brown rice, salt and water and is delicious!

Rummo! I've only found it at Whole Foods, but it could be elsewhere. It has the best texture like normal pasta.

Gluten Free Pasta

Posted by Electronic-Debate-56 · in r/Celiac · 1 year ago

My son was diagnosed with Celiac about 3 years ago. We run a gluten free house. He loves pasta in every form. My husband and I try to eat it. (We never say a word) But, we don’t like it very much. Our favorite brand is Barilla. I found Italy serves Garofalo and Le Veneziane. I can order it online. What is your favorite? **Edited to add Thanks everyone. I have Giadzy and Le Veneziane Italian on the way. I will post the results.

I haven't had it before. Is the texture like regular pasta or similar to it? I'm thinking of trying them

both of them are as close to regular pasta as you can get! i actually prefer them to gluten pasta in a lot of ways. they're way quicker to cook (and a lot of rice pasta can be overcooked a fair bit) and i think jovial has an incredible texture.

The G.O.A.T of GF Pasta

Posted by Heiress_in_Waiting · in r/glutenfree · 2 months ago

For me, this is the best gluten free pasta in taste, texture and quality of ingredients. My family couldn’t tell it was gluten free. It holds up well to a creamy sauce and it’s delicious! I’m not a huge fan of the ones made with corn due to the texture (very finicky with the cook times), neither the ones made with legumes bc of the taste. This brown rice pasta is hearty, satisfying and the closest to regular, maybe even better ;) I’m always on hunt for the sale bc these do not last long at my house! I particularly love the Caserecce variety pictured.

Rummo GF is one step above - it’s truly spectacular - but Jovial is definitely my everyday go-to and very satisfying. Try the new bucatini and the new regular (non-cassava) orzo too.

Bucatini! Someone finally did GF bucatini. And it’s great. Amazing.

Heiress_in_Waiting · OP · 2 months ago

I’ve tried Rummo, and I would buy it in a pinch for sure. It is a bit more sensitive to over cooking though so definitely have to keep a close eye on it. Pasta has to be aldente for me to enjoy it. I’ve been meaning to get the gf orzo so I’ll be on the lookout for both!

I THINK it’s a Whole Foods exclusive for the moment, though you can order it off the Jovial site too. So good! Definitely turned out to be my wife’s favorite.

It’s my favorite too. It’s a little pricey, but worth it. My partner can eat wheat pasta, but prefers this. It has the best texture! And great for cold pasta salad and warming up leftovers too.

Beautiful-Lynx-6828 · 2 months ago

Cold pasta salad?? Do you do anything with it after cooking? I always think the pasta gets a weird texture in the fridge

3 upvotes on reddit
Lil___frodo · 2 months ago

Jovial Fusilli pasta holds up pretty well. It’s the best texture I’ve noticed for pasta salad than other brands I’ve tried. I only cook for about 7-8 minutes, then I put it in a strainer/colander , and spray cold water on it until it’s considered warm. It holds onto dressing better that way. Then I use olive garden dressing.

3 upvotes on reddit
Heiress_in_Waiting · OP · 2 months ago

My local grocery store will have a dollar or so off from time to time so agree with you on the price but yes, definitely worth it bc the texture is unmatched! Will have to try in a cold salad next!

I think Barilla tastes most like traditional pasta.

Banza (made from chickpeas) is quite good too and has more fiber and is filling (and the Banza "rice" is very tasty too).

MildlyInteressato · 1 year ago

I'm shocked that people like Jovial and Tinkyada, but maybe they just like a different texture? I want a pasta like real Italian pasta, al dente and doesn't fall apart as it cools, that you could actually reheat if you wanted. For me, Sanniti, Garofalo, and Ronzoni are leaps and bound above the rest. Barilla is ok. So far, all the imported Italian brands I've tried have been good. (Hard to imagine an Italian pasta company surviving if they can't make it decent.)

Rummo is the best IMHO. Barilla is good and inexpensive and is the best pasta if you’re making a pasta salad. It stays soft the longest, 2 days, if making pasta salad ahead of time or have leftovers. Tinkyada lasagna noodles. Ignore instructions, add a little extra sauce and this brand is just like no boil noodles. Makes lasagna prep sooo easy.

Honestly valid, I think it would be nice on occasion when I’m making a fancy dish but not a regular week night meal, when I see this it makes me hope that brands like Barilla and Jovial will see the opportunity to expand their GF shapes as well.

Kinda like how Oreo saw the opportunity with making gluten free options after other brands like glutino and simple mills came to the market.

Best gluten free pasta brands

Key Considerations for Gluten-Free Pasta:

  1. Ingredients: Look for pasta made from high-quality gluten-free grains like brown rice, quinoa, chickpeas, or lentils. These provide better texture and flavor.

  2. Texture and Cooking Time: Different brands have varying textures and cooking times. Some may become mushy if overcooked, so check cooking instructions carefully.

  3. Nutritional Value: Consider the nutritional profile, including protein and fiber content. Legume-based pastas often have higher protein and fiber compared to rice-based options.

  4. Taste: Taste can vary significantly between brands. It’s worth trying a few to find one that suits your palate.

  5. Availability: Ensure the brand is readily available in your area or online for convenience.

Top Gluten-Free Pasta Brands:

  1. Banza: Made from chickpeas, Banza pasta is high in protein and fiber, with a great texture that holds up well in various dishes.

  2. Tinkyada: Known for its brown rice pasta, Tinkyada offers a wide range of shapes and has a texture that closely resembles traditional wheat pasta.

  3. Barilla Gluten Free: This brand provides a familiar taste and texture, making it a popular choice for those transitioning to gluten-free diets.
