TL;DR
Types of Brushes
For those new to blowouts, nylon round brushes with ceramic cores are recommended due to their ease of use compared to boar bristle brushes, which require breaking in and create more tension [1:1]. The Olivia Garden XL brush is favored for its extended length, allowing users to dry larger sections at once without snagging hair on the handle. Additionally, it features a handy hair parting tool at the end of the handle
[1:2].
All-in-One Solutions
The Revlon blow dryer brush combines a brush and blow dryer in one device, offering an efficient blowout experience. While some users prefer traditional brushes, many appreciate the convenience and quality of the blowout provided by this product [1:3]. For those seeking alternatives, the Shark Flex Style is noted for its temperature regulation and lack of damage over time
[4:1].
Specific Recommendations
For individuals with fine, wavy hair, the Drybar Single Shot blow dry brush is highly recommended for achieving lasting volume. This brush can often be found at discounted prices at stores like TJ Maxx [5:1]. Users with thick hair that struggles to hold curls may find ionic brushes beneficial, though avoiding models that overheat is crucial
[4].
Considerations for Different Hair Types
When selecting a blowout brush, consider your hair type and desired outcome. For example, individuals with type 4 natural hair might benefit from brushes designed to handle thicker textures [2]. Those with thinner hair should look for brushes that provide smooth blowouts without pulling or tugging
[5].
I am new at hair blowout and am looking for something inexpensive and good to use for blowout with the hair dryer that I have. Can you please suggest a good one!
Olivia Garden XL brush! It’s slightly longer than a normal blowout brush which allows you to dry larger sections at a time and you don’t have to worry about your hair getting snagged on the handle.
Also all Olivia Garden brushes come with a hair parting tool at the end of the handle which comes in handy so much. All my brushes are from that brand and they never disappoint! Anyone that uses my brush always ends up buying one for themself.
Edit: sold at Ulta! Links below
Yes—get the Revlon one. I have all the Dyson stuff and I just bought myself the Revlon brush cause the blowout it gives you is insane. The product is a brush and blow dryer in one though. So if you’re looking for just a brush I honestly just recommend any generic larger sized boar and nylon mix. :)
I have added Drybar Half pint small round brush and Moroccanoil Ceramic Brush 45mm, will it matter which one I buy?
Nope, they're both quite similar. I've only used the MO out of the two, which I like, just beware it does pickup a lot of heat from the dryer so just be careful while you're handing the round part of the brush.
If you're looking for something more inexpensive, take a quick google search as a lot of these brushes (from other brands) will provide you with similar results.
If you’re new to the blowout world, I’d suggest getting a nice nylon round brush with a ceramic core. Not a boar bristle brush as those typically need a few uses before they “break in” and because of the density of the bristles, a lot more tension is created which can be difficult to manuever if you’re not used to the motions. Make sure you take sections about the same width as the brush size that you’re using.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll try it out for the first time for my son’s birthday party this Saturday 😂
Has anyone tried the chi vibes get me bodied 3 in 1 blowout brush? If so, how is it? I'm in search of a blowout round brush, and I would prefer a blow dryer that comes with multiple attachments. If not, does anyone have any other blow drying round brushes to use? I have type 4 natural hair, for reference. Thanks in advance! 🙏🏽😊
I can't help. My blow dryer just decided to either be super hot or super cold. I've had it for years and would happily order another but I kind of need one quickly and just saw the brush on the Ulta site and came here to see if anyone had reviewed it😂 good luck to us!
Yea, I went to YouTube to look up reviews and ended up here asking for help 😫😂
Someone pls help me make a good purchase. I am so confused i wanna buy a good hair blow out brush which gives salon like blowout at home. I am considering Alan Truman brush. Is it good can someone tell me?
i have the agaro one and it honestly works great
What is your hair like and can u send link of what u purchased
i genetically have 2b/2c curly hair. But i permanently straightened my hair 6 months ago so my hair became very flat and that’s why i wanted a blowout brush. This is the one i have- Agaro Professional 24K Gold Styling Ceramic Tourmaline Coating Volumizer Hair Dryer HV2179 https://www.myntra.com/mailers/appliances/agaro/agaro-professional-24k-gold-styling-ceramic-tourmaline-coating-volumizer-hair-dryer-hv2179/16850420/buy?utm_source=social_share_pdp&utm_medium=deeplink&utm_campaign=social_share_pdp_deeplink
I just got it recently i like it I’ve still not perfected using it but gives a nice blowout look. only con takes a long time and causes a lot of hairfall. That being said i think it’s nice for what it’s worth, go for it!
The con is actually bad. I don’t want that
Which one? Hairfall?😭😭
I have Alan truman compact blow brush and it honestly works best.

does anyone know what the best ionic blowout brush is best for thick, lifeless hair that won’t hold a curl. I use hairspray but have trouble with keeping a bouncy look. I use the Revlon 1200W Ionic Ceramic 1" & 1-1/2" Hot Air Styler right now. It honestly overheats, and causes split ends. I would love to splurge but not interested in the overpriced Dyson. Thank you!
Re the Revlon overheating... have you had it for a long time?
If so, have you cleaned out the filter?
[I didn't know until 2 years ago that most dryers etc have a removable bit, so you can actually get to and remove the filter itself for cleaning... or at least get at the hair from the inside of the tool... Cleaning it regularly helps with air flow, which prevents overheating.]
I love my shark flex style! It’s life changing. It has an attachment like a revlon brush. I haven’t noticed any damage to my hair in the years I’ve been using it! It’s supposed to be really great at regulating its temperature.
I have 2A hair (fine, kinda thin and wavy) and I just cut it to my next/shoulder region. I am looking for a brush to blow out my hair with that won’t pull / tug but give a smooth blowout. Please share your recs!
Our hair sounds very similar and same length. I love my Drybar round brush but even more I love my Drybar single shot blow dry brush. It’s the only thing that gives me volume that stays. Found it at TJ Maxx for more than half off. I still see them from time to time.
Thanks! I’ll look for it in TJ maxx. What’s the diameter?
I’m feeling overwhelmed by the many options on the market! I really want to improve my hair care/styling routine, and a blow dryer brush seems like a good fit for me because I really struggle to wield both a brush and a hair dryer. Here’s some info about me/what I’m looking for:
My hair is fine and fairly straight, but thick.
In terms of length, my hair is typically between chin and shoulder length.
I’m a schoolteacher with an early start to my day. I need a tool that gets my hair dry and styled quick.
I can’t afford the Dyson (again, I’m a schoolteacher), but would be willing to invest up to $150 if the quality is there.
Any advice and reviews are super appreciated!!
I like the Drybar one a lot
I switched to Drybar from Revlon after my Revlon brush kept making popping sounds. I like the Drybar one so better!
hi! do you use the single or double shot from drybar? and what kind of hair do you have if you dont mind me asking? having trouble deciding which one to put on my xmas gift list haha
Second this!!
You can’t really go wrong with Babyliss whenits comes to hair dryers. In terms of premium products that work well and last It’s been mygo-too brand.
I like the nano titanium but that one could be deemed TOO expensive in all honesty aha.
I would suggest that you take a look into the Babyliss ceramic xtreme. The in-hand experience is like nothing else. It wraps the hand cleanly, the materials are high quality and the cool feature on the back works great dile the heat down when thinks get a little hot.
When I looked to straighten my hair after blowing it out, I found this dryer to leave in an easier form so when straightening afterward it was SOOO much easier than it previously was.
For 74 I think it’s great. Try it out and let me know what you think.
The struggle is real! I have trusted my hair for the last few years with Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumize. Its been really reliable. It might not be a super popular choice but a great value IMO.
The Revlon one fried my ends. Even with a heat protectant on the low setting. My stylist reccomend the drybar one. I saw Shark is coming out with one soon.
Yep fried my ends, too. I only do heatless curls now.
How do you do your heatless curls?
My stylist said it's because of the plastic bristles on the Revlon brush. They get too hot, that made sense to me. I love the concept of it though
They came out 16th ! I ordered one for my house and my bfs smoothstyle
My mom borrowed my shark flexstyle in April I had it back for 2 weeks before she took it again (We dont live together)
I got two as I hated carrying it between mine and my bfs house And somehow girl math justified it as I dont have to uber to his 😂
The Wavytalk pro thermal brush is definitely the best I've used. I also have the Revlon but I feel like the wavy talk tugs on my hair less. I have fine hair and want as little breakage as possible and I feel like the wavy talk is better for that and also gives it more of a curl which I like.
I didn't include Dyson because $$$ but feel free to express in the comments why it's superior to all these other options if it's your fav!
I really like my Revlon. Other brushes do not get hot enough to actually straighten my hair. If you have thin/fine hair that is already wavy/straight, you can likely use other brushes & still get results. But the Revlon one is cheap & works well for me 🙂
I have the Revlon on one but even using it with the heat protectant on the lowest setting the fried my hair's I would not recommend it
Seriously! I returned mine because I noticed my hair was looking FRIED after using it a few times.
I have the Dry Bar single shot. I like it. I have thick color treated hair and it's pretty easy to use. I do use heat protectant with it. I think I bought it direct from DB for $59? 2 yrs ago. I think it is worth it but wouldn't pay Sephora prices for it.
Lange is great!!
I used the Revlon brush for a long time and looking back I now think it was causing some of my hair issues (loss, breakage) that I had thought was due to extremely hard water. I now think it’s too hot for most people. I now use the Drybar Single Shot brush dryer and am much happier with it. It doesn’t get as hot so I’m seeing less breakage and overall smoother hair (I’ve also since moved to somewhere that doesn’t have hard water so that’s probably also a factor).
I have curly hair and I really don't like it. Ive tried embracing my curls, but they take a lot time and money to maintain, and it just isn't worth it to me because I prefer how I look with straighter hair anyway. but straightening with an iron is just super time consuming for me, I only have time for it once in awhile, and I'd like something I could use on a more regular basis. recently I came across tiktoks showing blow dryer brushes and I really love the look you can get with them !! Ive also heard that with the right one, it can be less damaging than a hair straightener, and takes less time too. my only question, is which one should I get? I'm willing to spend a little more if it means less damage, but nothing near dyson price so dont even go there 😭 the two I'm looking at right now are the l'ange and the drybar;; if anyone has experience with those, or could recommend another, I'd really appreciate it !! thank you 💕
I love my conair knot Dr. I like that I can take the brush attachment off, to clean it. I soak it in hot water with clarifying shampoo, then remove all the hair, mousse, etc. there’s also different size barrels for different hair lengths, and a cool button. I’ve had mine for 2 years now.
oh i hadn't heard of that one! i'll definitely look into it, thanks for the recommendation 🫶🏻
I know conair doesn’t get the best rap sometimes, but I really like mine.
I have a shark felxatyle and love it! Highly recommend if you can work it into your budget. If not, the Conair knot Dr is also great and really gentle on the hair compared to the Revlon one.
I know you said no Dyson, but if I could just mention the Airstrait.
I have a Revlon One Step, and as someone with curls and frizz, I could never quite get rid of my frizz with the One Step. I also can't use a regular straightener to save my life. The Airstrait is flipping amazing. Just an fyi. For future reference 😊
oh i'd LOVE the airstrait - it's the one i really want. but not an option for me 🙁💔 maybe someday !
Fair enough! Product-wise, I can suggest R&Co Mood Swing. I gives a really nice, sleek effect.
I have a revlon one that I’d highly recommend.
i've heard that one gets really hot :( are there multiple settings?
It does get super hot and I dont recommend it! My hair was frying when I used that, much healthier with Dyson
There are, warm, hot, cool. I only use the warm one, and yes, it does get quite hot. The Tymo is on my wishlist for when this one burns out, more expensive and I don’t know about the temperature. I do have a Tymo straightener that I like, it’s also pretty hot.
Look up the RevAir. I hear it’s life changing.
is it good for curly hair? I haven’t seen this brush in my local DT yet
It would be in the Black hair care section. It’s similar to the denman brush, so yes it should work perfectly
Thanks for telling me!
I heard the revlon one is super damaging. I think I’m going to get the drybar one because I’ve heard it’s less damaging but it’s not as expensive as the dyson air wrap.
That was my concern with the cheaper models, plus with all the hype it looks like the revlon one is just as expensive as the FFF ones now. I have naturally curly hair and avoid heat styling most of the time to protect my natural curl pattern. But I’d like to do something different from time to time and it’s important to me to use the least damaging tools I can find for those occasions.
Yeah I noticed that too! It was like $25 on Black Friday and now it’s like $50-$60. Now I’m waiting for a good deal on the drybar or hoping that a cheaper brand comes out with a less damaging model.
drybar private labels their products so you are just paying extra for the name.
But can you tell me about a less expensive one that has a lower heat setting/ is less damaging? Everyone says the revlon one is very damaging
I bought a Revlon one on Amazon for $35. I love it.
I bought mine on prime day... $25 and life changing!
Same.
I bought the Revlon one got a deal on it 30. It's amazing.
overpriced af. get the revlon one everyone on tiktok loves.
I have the Adagio end I love it, I dry/straight my hair in less than 10 minutes.
I’m leaning toward the adagio. I saw it on another site for even cheaper than FFF, but idk if it’s the real deal or a sketchy knockoff.
