What Redditors are Saying

Best Hair Dryers for Blowouts

TL;DR

  • Highly recommended: BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium, Revlon One-Step Volumizer, Dyson Airwrap/Dryer
  • Considerations: Heat settings, weight, and price

Popular Hair Dryer Models

Several hair dryers have been highlighted as top choices for achieving salon-quality blowouts. The BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Portofino is praised for its ability to deliver a fresh salon look in a short time [1:2]. The Revlon One-Step Volumizer Hair Dryer is noted for taming frizzy hair and adding volume, making it a game-changer for many users [1:3]. The Dyson Airwrap and Dyson dryer are frequently mentioned for their speed and effectiveness, although they come with a high price tag [1:4], [1:7].

Hair Dryer Brushes

Hair dryer brushes like the Drybar Single Shot and Double Shot are popular for those looking to simplify the blowout process. Users appreciate the Drybar brush for its quick drying time and manageable heat levels [4:2], [4:6]. The Revlon dryer brush is also favored, though some users caution about potential heat damage if used frequently [4:4]. It's important to consider the shape of the brush (round vs. oval) based on personal preference and hair type [4:7].

Considerations for Selection

When choosing a hair dryer or dryer brush, consider factors such as heat control, weight, and ease of use. Some users prefer models that offer adjustable heat settings to prevent hair damage [5:5]. Weight is another consideration, especially for those who find traditional blow-drying tiring [1:6]. Price is a significant factor, with some users opting for more affordable options like BaByliss over high-end models like Dyson due to cost-effectiveness [1:5].

Professional Opinions

Professionals in the hairstyling industry suggest using a traditional dryer and round brush for better heat control and less damage [5:5]. However, for those who prefer the convenience of a dryer brush, it's recommended to use them on dry hair to minimize potential damage [5:8].

I have the BaBylissPRO® Nano Titanium™ Portofino™ Full-Size Dryer and I absolutely love it. Paired with my ceramic rolled brush, I can get that fresh salon hair look in about 20-30min!

Same for me as well. I've been lucky enough to be able to try the Dyson hair dryer and yes it's faster and has better attachments but at the price point, you can't beat Babyliss. Not everyone has the kind of disposable income to drop $400+ on a dryer or $600+ on air wrap. With a little practice you can get the exact same look.

My mother gifted me the Nano Hair Dryer from CHI which I love. The attachments it comes with are helpful and stay on, but sometimes I also use a universal one from Gold n Hot.

Conair Knot Dr. is GREAT as well. Personally it doesn’t get the root straight enough for me compared to CHI , but with the ability to get the rest done in (at least what feels like) less passes, it’s worth it.

Please tell me your fave dryer brush

Posted by throwmeawaymetro · in r/Sephora · 4 years ago

I’m looking at the amika and drybar vs. revlon and undecided. I suck at blowouts and figure these are an easier way to get that smooth body i usually can only get at a salon. The reviews all vary from excellent to terrible and i’m trying to reduce further damage/ burning/ pulling. TIA!

I have the Drybar one and love it! It dries quickly, doesn’t get too hot, and isn’t too heavy. I haven’t tried any of the others in order to compare but, I’m really happy with this one.

I've tried so many of the dryer brushes. I started out with Revlon and liked the results, then switched to the Hot Tools later on because it was supposed to work better on curly hair, and indeed, I did find the Hot Tools got my hair even smoother than the Revlon. However, both of these dryer brushes damaged my hair so badly -- so much breakage, so many split ends. After that, I decided to buy the Drybar Single Shot brush because I read that it didn't get as hot as Revlon or Hot Tools, and I liked that it was a round brush shape rather than the oval shape that most dryer brushes are. The Drybar one was definitely my favorite! It was definitely less damaging than Revlon and Hot Tools, it got my hair very smooth and shiny, and the product itself seems more well-built. The bristles haven't broken at all in my few months of use, and it's so easy to clean off hair and dust compared to the Revlon and Hot Tools which got so disgusting.

With that said, I did recently buy the Dyson Airwrap and it's worth it to me as someone who blows out my hair regularly and doesn't want just a straight blowout look! My hair has been so healthy and shiny ever since I switched to using the Airwrap. But if you're looking for the next best alternative that's more affordable, I highly recommend the Drybar brush! I do think I get a smoother round brush blowout from the Drybar vs. the Dyson, but I prefer the Dyson for the curling barrels and regular smoothing brush.

Good to know! Thanks all. I figured drybar would be best option while still affordable. Im paranoid about frying hair, but it doesnt sound like anyone has had bad experience. I feel like the dyson is too expensive for a novice.

Sounds like a good choice! Not sure if you're aware but there are actually two Drybar brushes (the Single Shot and the Double Shot) and they're both priced the same. The Single Shot is a round brush shape (which is unique because all the other dryer brushes on the market are oval shaped) and the Double Shot is just the regular oval shape. I'd personally recommend the Single Shot just because the shape is more innovative and I've seen a couple of YouTube videos by people who've tried both and thought the Single Shot was better. But it could be worth doing some research to see which one you'd like better for your hair!

I have the Revlon one and it works great! I’m pretty bad at blowouts too but it makes it easy. Although, I don’t use it very often because it gets pretty hot, only for special occasions. If you want to blow out your hair often, I would invest in a better brush with heat control!

Before I chopped my hair off I had the Revlon and LOVED it! I had to use it maybe twice to get the hang of it but once I did it was so just easy and quick to use. My only beef with it was that it was a tad heavy.

Can you elaborate on the ways in which the Dyson is not as good? I have been feeling low grade envy over not being able to afford the Dyson and yours is the first time I've heard something negative about it (besides the price). How is the airwrap/how does it hold up in terms of curling/blowing out your hair? Is it salon quality?

I have the revlon oval one and I only use it on cold or it really dries my hair and I don’t like that. It’s slightly easier than dryer and brush cause my hair is to my butt. I do feel like it tends to pull out a lot of my hair as well so I only use it if I need to get dry asap which isn’t often. If I could get my $30 back and get rid of it I probably would tho

Oh my gosh, yes. I have the oval-shaped one from Amazon (not sure of the brand) and it's a game changer. It dries my hair smooth and straight. Now, you do have to wait until your hair is damp instead of soaking, and it does take patience as you have to do individual chunks, but the outcome is awesome. I use a hair towel to soak up the excess moisturize and do my makeup and then use it once my hair is dry enough.

I will check Amazon out! I love the idea of not having to use a straightener all the time.

I do hair for a living and have tried multiple of them. They are okay but you can’t control the heat on on them besides low medium and super hot. You really are just better off with a dryer and a round brush for your hair’s sake. But that’s just my personal opinion ☺️

100% Dyson. Don’t try to save money and use the Air Wrap as your main dryer. It isn’t as good for that. But the Supersonic is the best thing ever.

Eta: also be sure no matter what dryer you get that you use a quality heat protectant on your hair.

Davines International - OI All In One Milk. I’ve tried many, but always circle back to using this one. Buy it through a reputable retailer (Birchbox, etc. not Amazon). I have read stories of sub-par quality from third-party sites.

I've used the BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Portofino Dryer for a few years and love it. But the brush and technique is just as important. I have fine and wavy hair, so I need tension more than heat to get my hair smooth. I use the DryBar boar bristle round brush with low heat when my hair is 90% dry. My hair has never looked healthier.

blow dryer rec’s??

Posted by archaeoslut · in r/Wavyhair · 1 year ago

talk to me about hair dryers!!

i hate mine. i have fairly thick hair that’s high porosity (mostly due to damage but not wholly) and it takes me 45 MINUTES to blow dry my hair on wash day with medium heat and high fan with my cheap revlon blow dryer. i can’t do this anymore, i’m ready to upgrade to a better one.

i’m in the upper midwest in the US and air drying is NOT an option 6-9 months of the year here. simply too cold, or too humid, and my hair is already so fragile due to years of bleaching that air drying makes it super tangled (no, i’m not considering changing this, i like having fun colored hair)

EDIT: i forgot to include a budget lol. i’d like to stay under $100 :)

Shark has one just like the Dyson at half the cost. It's a little higher than your budget at around $200-250, but it's so worth it. It has a special diffuser meant for curly hair- You can raise the clips or whatever you want to call them so it gets your roots. I love it.

How to do a professional blowout at home

AI Answer

Best hair dryers for blowouts

Key Considerations for Hair Dryers for Blowouts:

  1. Wattage: Look for hair dryers with at least 1800 watts for powerful airflow, which helps achieve faster drying and styling.

  2. Heat and Speed Settings: Multiple heat and speed settings allow for customization based on hair type and desired style. A cool shot button is also beneficial for setting styles.

  3. Technology: Consider dryers with ionic technology, which helps reduce frizz and static, and ceramic or tourmaline materials that provide even heat distribution.

  4. Weight and Ergonomics: A lightweight design makes it easier to handle, especially during longer styling sessions. An ergonomic handle can also reduce wrist strain.

  5. Attachments: Look for a concentrator nozzle for precise styling and a diffuser if you have curly hair. These attachments can enhance the blowout effect.

Recommendations:

  • Dyson Supersonic: Known for its innovative design and powerful performance, it has intelligent heat control to prevent damage and comes with multiple attachments for styling versatility.

  • T3 Cura Luxe: This dryer offers a high wattage, multiple heat/speed settings, and a sleek design. It also features a digital ion generator for smooth, shiny results.

  • BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Dryer: A budget-friendly option that provides excellent performance with a lightweight design and powerful airflow, making it great for blowouts.

Choosing a dryer that fits your specific hair type and styling needs will help you achieve the best results for your blowouts.
