TL;DR
Popular Hair Gloss Products
Several products have been highlighted as favorites for achieving glossy hair. The Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray is highly recommended for its heat-activated shine that lasts through several washes [3:1]. Ouai Hair Gloss is praised for making hair manageable and shiny
[5:1], while the L'Oréal Elvive Glycolic Gloss is noted for its lamination effect and affordability when on sale
[5:5].
Product Experiences
Users have shared varied experiences with different gloss products. For instance, Amika's flash instant shine mask and top gloss shine spray have mixed reviews, with some users finding them ineffective [4:9]. On the other hand, Garnier Fructis Hair Drink, specifically the pineapple variant, is appreciated for its affordability and effectiveness
[5:2].
Application Tips
The method of application can affect the results. Some users prefer leave-in styling products over those used like a mask or toner [3:3]. Double glossing has been mentioned as a technique to achieve extra shine, although it's still being experimented with by users
[3:8].
Additional Recommendations
Other notable mentions include Kerastase Chroma for its positive reviews [5:3], and Bread's gloss product which is recommended for its quality
[5:8]. Users suggest incorporating these glosses into your routine based on personal preference and hair type, ensuring they don't cause hair fall
[2:1].
I have the oribe and color wow. I like them both, for different reasons. The oribe gloss leaves my hair super soft and shiny, but I still have to use a smoothing cream after. The color wow requires heat and tension to work, and some days I just don’t want to worry about all that. Another good option that I like a lot is the liquid glass line from Drybar. Some people don’t like it because it is quite scented, but I like it.
I have the colour wow and it’s not a gloss like the other ones. It’s a nice product. I like the IGK gloss for the type that ypu put on after washing and rinse off. It’s also less pricey than the kératase one.
I use the colorwow about once a month. I have not tried the 2 glosses shown but I did try the amika one this week and it made my hair so soft and silky! Normally my hair is very dry/ bleach damaged.
btw i have high porosity, colour treated, wavy long hair. Please share if you've had any experience with these and if they're worth adding into your routine. Also, do lmk how you incorporate hair gloss in your routine.
as long as they don't cause hairfall
I saw someone recommending a good and affordable hair gloss in comments here but I can't find it anymore. I was triggered by the idea ever since I saw Brad Mondo mentioning it in one of his videos as a must-have for shiny hair.
I want to try a hair gloss, but not sure which one to try - and how to use it! Any tips?
I don’t know about dye glosses but the colour wow dream coat supernatural spray is unreal. It’s heat activated and leaves a temporary glassy shine on your hair for several washes
I just got this one based on your comment and the comments underneath and goddamn this stuff is good, you guys were not exaggerating! I usually layer the Sun Bum leave-in spray and a Pantene hair oil before blow drying my hair to get a nice amount of shine and smoothness, but this dream coat spray on its own leaves a really pretty shine on my hair after blow drying. I love it!
Just bought the travel size a couple days ago. Literally so smooth and shiny 😭🤌
I’m so hopeful for when the humidity comes back
Love this stuff as well!
I don’t find that the ones you use like a mask or toner really do much. I prefer leave in styling products. Maybe I’m misunderstanding though, if the goal is to tint hair or to make shiny…for shiny though:
I like Ion Demi Permanent. I get the clear shade. Because someone else turned me on to double glossing I’ve used it with Kiss Tintations in Clear. Tbh I’m new to glossing and am still trying it out but so far I like it
Thank you for sharing! What is double glossing supposed to do? Do you notice a difference from double glossing instead of doing it only once?
I haven’t tried doing it only once yet! I just heard about double glossing and did it. Double gloss just gives you extra glossy shine. I’m gonna experiment in the future doing just a single gloss vs doing double, but since it didn’t cost a lot of money/time to do the double I didn’t mind trying it
I read that as favorite hair loss
Hahaha... Ideally no hair loss please! 🤣😅
I won't - we all deserve to be goddesses with glossy hair! <3
Yes you do IMO. I've heard it doesn't work well without it, but I know there is a curly/wavy version that I think is for air drying!
I have tried several products for shine that promised it would leave you with a shiny glossy look but it did not. Just for instance: r+co gemstone ultra shine glossing treatment, amika flash instant shine mask, design.me gloss me hair serum and amika top gloss shine spray. So, I know that Sephora queens know everything. T0herefore I am curious if you guys have any suggestions of hair products that you've tried of any kind for shine/gloss. They could be shampoo, serums/styling products, a hair mask or even multiple products. LITERALLY ANYTHING. So, if there is a produc(s) that you have tried and it actually worked and made your hair glossy, shiny and gorgeous...I would love to hear about it. Thank you so much!
OUAI Hair gloss or ColorWow MONEY hair mask!
Garnier hair filler pre shampoo and L’Oréal glycolic gloss hair gloss
Is the glycolic glass under the ever-pure line and thank you by the way ❤️
L’Oréal glycolic glaze is that girl
Would you recommend using the whole line or would just the mask work? I have super thick frizzy hair so I don't wanna overdo it.
Just the glaze. You don’t need the whole line as long as you have a solid shampoo and conditioner you like that works for your hair.
She's hard to find! It appears she had a name change but this one has glycolic acid and it says it's glossy is this that girl?
I don’t have an answer but i was looking at buying the Amika top gloss shine spray. Did it really not give any shine?😫it also claims to be non-greasy & helps with frizz, how did that work for you?
I LOVE amika but for me she did nothing, sad to say. Maybe it's just me but it was like a bad hairspray
What your favourite hair gloss?
Garnier fructis hair drink - specifically the pineapple one!! I’ve also tried the banana one but it’s not as good. I buy it when it goes half price at Coles or chemist warehouse, so it’s only about $10 !
Kerastase Chroma 🙌
I've just started using the L'Oréal Elvive Glycolic Gloss, it's a lamination treatment and I really like it. It goes on sale at Coles/Woolworths quite regularly
There were so many good reviews on this product. I've been using it for a few months now and it does absolutely nothing for my 2B hair 😭
Thank you! Does it have any colour at all?
Nope, just a clear gloss :)
The one from the brand Bread is really good
Their stuff smells SO good!
I got the Ouai hair gloss recently, I’ve not tried other brands but definitely like this one! Makes my hair manageable and shiny!
Hi! I would like that shinny look for my hair. Do you have any recommendations for some hair gloss? Not too cheap but neither too expensive, would be cool! Also, if you have shampoo/conditioner/mask recommendations for that glossy look, it’s fine too! I got wavy hair, a brownish blonde hair if it makes a difference
I just bought this to try out but don't plan to give it a test run until I wash my hair Wednesday! https://www.target.com/p/tresemme-gloss-color-enhancing-high-shine-deep-hair-conditioner-clear-7-7-fl-oz/-/A-80332980
They also have some color depositing gloss, geared towards blondes, brunettes etc
update when you test it! thank you!🫶
I love this leave-in that it can be use as a conditioner too. garnier My favorites are avocado, banana, and papaya.
Don't forget to use a satin bonnet or a satin pillowcase to maintain your hair hydrated and moist while you sleep. I use this one. Great satin quality satin pillowcase and satin bonnet
I hope this helps.
yeah, the satin is essential 😬 thank you for recommendation!
I bought the redken shades eq crystal clear gloss and the solution so I can gloss my hair at home.
It's gorgeous and it's 1 litre bottles so it lasts quite a while. While it's not very cheap straight up, you get heaps of uses so it's worth the investment. Definitely cheaper than going to the hairdressers.
thank you!
Did you try it? How did it go?
What has worked for me for years now is raspberry vinegar rinse (from what I hear apple cider vinegar works just as well, raspberry just also smells like heaven). The vinegar helps keep a natural PH level of your hair and get rid of any product/hard-water buildup, this on its own had gotten my hair softer, glossy, and much much easier to untangle. This all also allowed me to grow it a lot longer (from waist length to bellow-butt length of healthy hair). Also applying a leave-in conditioner to wet hair after washing, I have great experience with the brand Gliss.
and how do you use it? before washing yout hair?
After shampoo. I drizzle/drip it on the scalp and length and let it sit for a minute or so (enough time for anything else i need to do in the shower) then wash off, then apply conditioner.
I always recommend NOUS. They even have a clear gloss if you do not want to add pigment.
thanks! I will add it to the list!
I saw a post from a local hairdresser who did a hair gloss to a client. I had never heard of it before, but it looked so shiny and healthy and great. I want to do it to my hair, but I can’t afford to go to the salon right now. Has anyone used any drugstore hair glosses that give that healthy, radiant effect without weighing your hair down?
I have decently thick, slightly wavy hair.
I've heard some good things about the Adore clear glosses from the Youtube channel Deeperthanhair who seems to be a really talented stylist. I'm seeing it priced around $5 and am considering trying it
There's a drugstore near my house that sells hair gloss for about 7 €. Still, it's not something that's sold everywhere so you might just buy it online.
It’s a semi permanent color. Can be pigmented or clear. Just buy any semi dye
Sorry I’m so uneducated about hair and hair dye, I’ve never dyed my hair. What’s a semi dye?
A non permanent hair color. A “gloss” is a color servicié they offer at salons where they apply a semi permanent /Demi permanent hair color.
Think of it like panty hose vs tights. Panty hose are more sheer (gloss/semipermanent) while tights are full coverage (permanent)
It doesn't lift colour, just deposits colour
I never heard of one until now….I NEED to try one
Hair gloss will wash off in a month or so depending how often you wash your hair. I had my hair glazed at Ulta, and within two washes my hair was faded, it wasn’t worth it. I’ve heard overtone and dp hue gloss is good. I honestly wouldn’t say it’s gonna improve your hair texture, frizz, or shine. It’s just gonna change the color and that’s all
Bumble and bumble is good but I'm brunette and that stuff stains everything so I don't think I'd use it again was too much agg to clean. Tigi bedhead shine spray is nice and no stains!
Ooh i’ve never heard that hair gloss can stain before. What do you mean by stain like does it leave stuff shiny?😅
You can get Clear hair gloss treatments. My hair is blonde, blue & purple (I dye it a lot), so I occasionally use a clear hair gloss treatment. I have a lot of hair but the strands aren't overly thin or thick so it works well enough on my hair type. It just isn't really worth the cost in my opinion, at home kits aren't as good as salon results (as usual) & they can make your hair feel heavy & in my experience it feels too oily for the first couple of days.
I've seen others mention the Color WOW treatments (shampoo + conditioner + Dream Coat Spray) and I definitely like it better than a gloss though you have to do it more often.
This stuff is Holy Grail and no one knows about it. I’m always telling the girls at Ulta but I think they don’t believe me. Keeps you hair so smooth for a beautiful blow dry.
It is really like water. I can’t imagine what is in it at that consistency, but it’s the inly hair product I cannot go without cuz it completely tames the frizz and gives so much shine. Found it in a little travel size at Ulta too. The large one is $30, but you only have to use it every 2nd or 3rd wash
I was looking for a way to refresh my old hair extensions and I saw someone using it in a YouTube video tutorial. So I went out and bought it that day and I was really impressed that it actually does what it claims. And I was so skeptical bc when I opened the bottle there’s no smell and it’s almost like the consistency of water…I was like, this isn’t going to do shit! 😂 it made so much difference for me!
Organic cassia powder works great as a semi-permanent hair gloss (starts fading after four weeks). It also thickens and protects hair.
Or you can use henna powder for a permanent solution if you have very dark hair (henna darkens hair unlike cassia). Makes your hair shiny af for months, like this cool iridescent effect. Henna is also good for long-lasting texture control and conditioning.
It only costs like 10USD for shoulder length hair but the downside both henna and cassia needs to process for 3-4 hours.
If you’re just looking to have shiny hair, give flaxseed gel a try!
I'm curious about this, how would this work? eg how do you apply it? I have coarse, thick, low porosity hair, so I'm kind of intrigued.
I have 2b hair and I use it after I put leave-in conditioner in. I normally kinda pat it in my hair first then scrunch it in. If you use a lot, there might be some cast left in your hair after it dry so just scrunch it out again. You need to try it!
I’ll check it out! Thank you. Does the shine only last for one wash or several washes?
I wash my hair every other day, so I only use it once a week and that’s plenty. It’s effective but really light, it doesn’t have any kind of smell, doesn’t weigh my hair down. I got a trial size version at first and I fell in love with it.
Hello fellow redheads! I wanted to let you know that I think I’ve found the best gloss for redheads. It’s the “Moroccanoil Color Depositing Mask” in the color copper.
Here is the link: https://amzn.to/4l4bC1V
I have also tried the Kristen Ess Gloss and the color just isn’t quite right.
Tip: if you leave it on longer than the recommended time on the back of the bottle the color is more intense. ☺️
I hope this helps someone else trying to prevent their red hair from fading in their old age. ❤️❤️
Is your hair fading to brown or blonde? My hair is becoming more strawberry blonde from a true ginger and I’m nervous as this says not to use on blonde hair. I do glosses but get them done at a salon.
My hair is definitely fading more strawberry blonde but it’s still pretty red. I think you’d think the color might be too intense if you’re leaning more blonde. You could also try it and only leave it on a few minutes.
I still have obvious red to my hair. People who have never met me before still think I’m a redhead without question, it’s just not as vibrant as it was when I was a teenager and before. I’ll definitely have to try!
Keracolor or OverTone copper.
Thank you for this! I’ve been looking for a gloss but terrified of not getting the color right. I’ve never dyed my hair before but I’m intrigued by gloss!
This is the best one I’ve found so far!
It's also the best one I've tried as well
You can do a test strand!
I have fine, mid length, straight hair and I struggle to get it to look super shiny like I like. I’m looking into Color Wow products but the reviews are polarizing. What do you guys recommend from Sephora?
Oribe gold lust oil!!!!! I’ve tried almost every hair oil at sephora!
Does it make your hair greasy?
Using the Kerastase 8 Hour Magic Night Serum has really helped my hair.
I love this serum. My curls are so bouncy, soft and are shiny without being greasy when I use this at night and sleep in my bonnet in between washes
The color wow spray definitely gives my hair shine and that healthy look but its unfortunately not life changing. Like its nice and does the job but one spray will not do miracles
What’s the official name? I’ve been curious about their products but I know they have a few different things. TYIA! : )
Color wow dream coat supernatural spray is the one im using
Ah ok thanks 😂 I need miracles!
Money mask by color wow! So amazing, my hair is always so shiny and smooth after I use it. I recommend that more over the color wow spray
i think due to silicone in it it weighed down my hair a lot (fine hair).
Do you blow dry? The Drybar liquid glass line is fantastic! Specifically the gloss rinse and the spray. The shampoo and conditioner are great too though. Makes my hair feel sooo silky, literally I can’t stop touching it when I use these products
Ooh I need to try this! I’ve had the sample sitting around for so long.

Key Considerations for Hair Gloss Products
Type of Gloss: Decide between clear glosses (for shine) and tinted glosses (for color enhancement). Clear glosses add shine without altering color, while tinted glosses can refresh or enhance your current shade.
Ingredients: Look for nourishing ingredients like oils (argan, coconut), proteins, and vitamins that can help improve hair health while providing shine.
Application Method: Consider whether you prefer a salon treatment or an at-home product. Some glosses require professional application, while others are easy to use at home.
Longevity: Check how long the gloss lasts. Most glosses provide results for 4-6 weeks, but some may last longer depending on the formulation.
Hair Type Compatibility: Ensure the product is suitable for your hair type (curly, straight, color-treated, etc.) to achieve the best results.
Recommendations:
Rita Hazan True Color Ultimate Shine Gloss: This clear gloss is known for its ability to enhance shine and protect color-treated hair. It’s easy to use at home and lasts several weeks.
John Frieda Luminous Glaze Clear Shine Gloss: A budget-friendly option that adds shine and smoothness to all hair types. It’s a great choice for at-home use.
Oribe Glaze for Beautiful Color: This tinted gloss is excellent for enhancing color and shine, especially for color-treated hair. It’s a bit pricier but offers salon-quality results.
Redken Shades EQ Gloss: A professional-grade option that provides both color and shine. It’s best used in a salon but offers customizable results for various hair colors.
Choose a product based on your specific needs, whether you want to enhance shine, refresh color, or nourish your hair.
