Professional vs. At-Home Treatments
Professional hair gloss treatments at salons can provide noticeable results, as seen in a user's anecdote where their cousin's hair appeared shiny and healthy after a salon gloss treatment [1:1]. However, some users have found that salon glosses are essentially clear toners, which may not last beyond 6-8 weeks
[1:2]. For at-home options, brands like Redken and L'Oreal offer effective products. The Redken acidic gloss is praised for making hair silky smooth, while L'Oreal's Glycolic Acid hair gloss adds shine and smoothness
[1:3]
[1:4].
DIY Remedies
For those on a budget, DIY remedies can be effective for achieving glossy hair. Using hair oil as a pre-wash treatment and applying silicone serums post-wash while gently blow-drying can enhance shine [3:1]. These methods are affordable and can be easily incorporated into your routine without the need for expensive store-bought glosses.
Considerations for Color-Treated Hair
Users with color-treated hair, especially high porosity types, might benefit from specific glosses tailored to their needs. Incorporating gloss into your routine can help maintain color intensity and add shine [2]. It's important to choose glosses that complement your hair color; for instance, Kristin Ess gloss has been recommended for brunettes but not yet tested on blondes
[5:1].
Product Selection and Usage
Selecting the right product for your hair type and color is crucial. Some users have experienced mixed results with products like Kerastase Chroma Absolu Color Gloss, particularly if they have virgin curly hair [1:6]. Additionally, understanding the pigment composition of glosses is essential for achieving desired color tones, as seen in discussions about using colorcharm gloss for faded peachy/pink hair
[4:1].
In summary, maintaining hair gloss involves selecting the right products or treatments based on your hair type and color, considering both professional and DIY options, and incorporating them into your routine for best results.
Has anyone tried professional hair gloss treatments at the salon?
How about at-home treatments, such as from drugstore brands (L’oreal, Glaze) vs. higher end brands like Redken, Keratase, etc.?
Did you find that it made a difference after multiple uses or was it a gimmick?
Idk if this is true but I tried to get a hair gloss at the salon and the lady said it was basically clear toner. So I just got toner for my highlights instead. I think it’s only supposed to last 6-8 weeks at most.
The redken color acidic gloss is insane. My hair is silky smooth after. Not a gloss but highly recommend sleeping with the kerastase 8hr hair lotion in as well. I feel the lotion prolongs the soft feeling of the gloss without it looking oily/losing volume.
That’s good to hear! Have you tried the L’oreal glycolic gloss? How was it?
I haven’t but it’s next on my list for sure. I don’t think hype for a type of hair product has ever matched its performance until I tried a gloss.
I have it and honestly, it’s pretty meh. I prefer the other L’Oréal gloss w colour! I like the added intensity w the hair dye and it added a lot more shine compared to the glycolic gloss.
I love the L'Oreal Glycolic Acid hair gloss. It definitely makes my hair shiny and it also makes the hair incredibly smooth.
I have used up around half of my bottle of Kerastase Chroma Absolu Color Gloss. I have virgin curly hair and don’t really notice any difference. I wanted more shine and reflection but honestly I don’t see that happening. I had seen it work well on YouTube for someone with coloured hair so maybe that is a prerequisite.
Anecdotally, my cousin came over and her hair looked so shiny, healthy and extra black. I asked if she had done anything different and she said she got a hair gloss at her salon. It looked great on her and I really noticed!
btw i have high porosity, colour treated, wavy long hair. Please share if you've had any experience with these and if they're worth adding into your routine. Also, do lmk how you incorporate hair gloss in your routine.
as long as they don't cause hairfall
Hey everyone!
So I have pretty good hair not too fine, not too thick the texture is just right but I really want to add that glossy, shiny look to it. The problem is, all those store-bought glosses and treatments are wayyy out of my budget right now.
Does anyone have any DIY remedies or home treatments that actually work for making hair shiny? Something easy and affordable? I don’t have any major damage or frizz, I just want that healthy, light-reflecting shine!
Thanks in advance!
Following
Hair oil as a pre-wash treatment and apply silicon serums (post wash) while gently blow drying.
has anyone used this colorcharm hair gloss? currently processing in my hair and i wanted to see what everyone thought about this or hair gloss in general. is this gonna even out the tone in my hair? i’ve got very faded peachy/pink hair after swimming and got this product from work (sally’s) and i’m still a little confused about what exactly this does
I am guessing that you just bought this and not anything to mix it with? It’s the pigment and you mix it with developer.
no i am not that stupid i work at sally beauty
I have not seen your hair, but if you have peach/pink hair this could have the wrong tones in it for you to get the color you want. Rose quartz usually are pink because they used purple pigments while rosé peach pink you are saying that you have get the pink from red. I can’t say for sure without the colorcode that say exactly what’s used to get a certain shade.
How did it turn out?
i need a hair gloss/glaze that will smooth my hair while making it the colour in the last photo or my natural root colour. I’m struggling to find videos online and i’m curious to see what you have to say here!
I had good experience with Kristin ess gloss BUT only with brunette I haven’t tried with my blonde.
I have dark brown hair and have gone to a professional stylist for a few years for blonde highlights. I LOVE the look I get from the salon, until the tone of the highlights starts to fade about 4 weeks later. I bought Wella Color Charm demi permanent “gloss & refresh” from Sally’s (w/ 10 developer) but am terrified it will make my whole head the same color. Is this safe to use in between salon visits to re-tone my highlights? Or will I regret this.
What number is on the box?
8N light neutral blonde
It's not going to touch your brown hair. It's hard to know what it would do to your highlights without seeing them. If they're really light, they'll darken them a little bit. Probably won't tone much as it's a neutral though
You can go to the salon in between visits & just get toner…or purple or silver shampoo at home
I’m looking for a hair gloss to increase shine and not make my hair look as dull. I’ve tried a few including the IGK and haven’t noticed a huge difference. Any recommendations that actually work?
I really like the Pureology gloss and JVN gloss!
I was curious about the pureology one since I see a lot of salons carry that brand
Love love love Kerastase’s Rose Absolute line including the oil.
Where can you get this line? I don’t see it on Kérastase’s site
Not available at Sephora but the L'oreal Glycolic Gloss. The hype is real with that product!
Not sure if sephora has it but Kristin Ess is unbeatable! JVN is also nice!
Kerastase glaze drops oil
You can get your hair glossed? I never even knew this was a thing…. I would love to have that. My hair looks so dull
Deff looking into treatments now! What I wonder is it just neutral for your hair to do, or does it damage it in anyway? Or is it the actual opposite and make it healthy??
I didn't know about this either. I'm off to Google it...
From someone who is looking to have a gloss done (or do it myself) can you ELI5 why this isn't what you wanted? Its looks shiny and nice, right?
It is just a bit darker than expected! I thought it would wash out faster. The shine is nice. I’ve had a clear gloss done before and I highly recommend.
Oh it's not a clear gloss? ( I'm new to the idea) I thought gloss = clear
lol yeah I’m here like ????
IME it will not fade to what it was before though it should fade more in time. Sorry this happened but it does look nice to me.
I’m confused. What don’t you like about it? It looks shiny and gorgeous
Many glosses are demi permanent and aren’t suppose to last as long as something permanent would, so around 6-8 weeks. I’d try a detoxifying shampoo but if you’ve done endless clarifying shampoos I’d let the hair rest as it can be damaging on the hair.
My hair always looks great right before I walk out the door, but it just gets tangled and scraggly halfway through the day. I have (a lot of) healthy hair, but the strands are fine. It’s between straight and wavy most days.
I just want to look more like the professional I am, if that makes sense.
Thank in advance, queens!
Honestly, the easiest way I’ve combated this is to just wear my hair up, and bring a small boar brush with me to flatten the small frizzy hairs that pop up.
Carry a small/ foldable portable brush in your purse to touch up halfway through the day?
Seriously my life since elementary school! I have a ton of bright blonde hair but the strands are thin & often the ends get dry while the roots produce plenty of oil, having a tiny brush allows me to distribute that oil toward the ends & keep my hair looking somewhat in order.
Clear mascara for baby hairs, learned this from pony
Maybe some sort of gel or hair spray throughout?
I’m still struggling with this but what has helped me:
• getting regular trims (I get them every 6-8 weeks, any longer and my hair looks like it hasn’t been combed in a century) • always have a brush with you (I have a tangle teezer that’s always in my bag) • some sort of hair oil. I currently use the OUIA Rose Hair & Body oil. I apply it in the morning and sometime again in the afternoon.
Blow dry first, then tongs for the curls.Serum then some spray.A ring light or two and someone who can click a good photo on the iPhone. Also, you are told how to pose and they will also adjust your hair for that perfect picture
It's heat styling. If you ever get a haircut and they style it afterwards, you know how good your hair looks until the next wash. You can get something similar at home, but it's not worth it to do it constantly.
recently got a haircut and the guy applied sm serum to make my hair shiny😃 my hair was so greasy and i took a shower the moment i reached home
What serum ?
Omg I always do that after getting haircut!! I've fine almost straight hair and when they blow dry my hair after haircut, they look shiny but they become way too frizzy than my normal hair... and within a day hair becomes greasy so I always wash hair after getting haircut😂
They don’t use anything fancy. They just know how to style it well and the lighting makes all the difference.
There are some shine sprays for hair. Plus the heat style it without unnecessary creases which reflect light and creates an illusion of healthier hair.
