The college post are all the rage lately. Look at the previous post for ones within your budget. People like to say will cost isn’t an issue, well can you buy a $5000 laptop? If the answer says yes, then no it’s not an issue, but if you can’t, it does play a role in this.

I am the network administrator for the school of business. I will tell you that each department might need different specs. This being said if you tell me what department your child is going to or you're going into I can maybe guide you in that direction.

Since a reliable build and portability is a big factor, I would suggest a Lenovo T14. It is very portable at 2.9 pounds and has a battery life of around 10 hours doing general tasks like schoolwork. I think you should start by deciding whether you want a mac or a PC, based on the software you use and which OS you're more familiar with, etc.

Brand new MacBook Air, that’ll have great battery life and should do what you need. If you don’t know the terms the other person asked, they probably don’t matter that much.

I was also wondering about that. Motherboard of my laptop died a few weeks ago and replacing it is almost as expansive as buying another one (like 750$ CAD). I also take laptop suggestions, same as OP, but 14" screen (so it's not too big) with HDMI and USB ports. Ideally something that'll last for years, since my current one lasted only 2 years.

I saw that Best Buy sells a Thinkpad E 16 with Ryzen 7 and 16gb of ram too.

Your needs are pretty straight forward ngl, the Macbook M4 will be a great choice since it has good portability, battery life and very good performance from what I have seen.

Since you prioritize battery life, and build quality, and you are going to need good CPU and GPU for video editing , and gaming, I would recommend Acer Swift X 4060 because of the following :

if your not doing engineering, go for the macbook pro, any model would be good but try to get 24gb ram or more and a chip based on what you need.

If your budget is 3K usd you can probably get the higher end ones. Battery life is awesome, better than windows, you can def have multiple tabs no issues. I saw a video where over 50 apps were open and it still worked fine, windows could never. and deltarune runs on mac pretty sure. And itll def last longer than a windows laptop.

TDLR: get a macbook, the higher the specs the better obviously, but most will last you for 6 years.

Any Windows laptop with 16+ GB of RAM, 512+ GB of storage, and either a Lunar Lake processor (Intel Core Ultra 2xxV processor) or AMD AI 300 series will be great for strong battery life and solid performance for light use.
