TL;DR
Essential Modding Tools
To start modding Subnautica, the first step is installing QModManager. This tool is crucial as it allows mods to be integrated into the game smoothly. A new page for QMods can be found on Nexus Mods, which provides updated information and downloads [4:1]. Ensuring you have this setup correctly will make the installation of other mods seamless.
Popular Mods
Several mods are popular among the community for enhancing the game experience. While specific mods weren't detailed in the discussions, players often seek mods that improve visual elements or add new features, such as a glass dome for multipurpose rooms (MPRs) [4:2]. These mods can significantly enrich your gameplay, especially if you've completed the game multiple times and are looking for a fresh experience.
Installation Issues
Some users reported issues with mods not appearing in the settings after installation [4:4]. It's important to ensure that all files are placed correctly and that the game is restarted after installing mods. If problems persist, checking forums or guides related to mod installation can provide troubleshooting steps.
Community and Resources
The creation of a subreddit dedicated to Subnautica modding, r/SubnauticaModding, aims to gather modders and enthusiasts together [3]. Although there is skepticism about its necessity due to the size of the modding community
[3:2], it could serve as a valuable resource for sharing ideas, troubleshooting, and collaborating on ambitious projects
[3:3].
For those interested in experimenting with mods, diving into community resources like these subreddits and forums can provide inspiration and support for creating or installing mods that enhance the Subnautica experience.
I'm not sure I understand, what did the mods do?
Change his flair I think
Correct me if I'm wrong but mods manually set his flair as not enough clout.

Thank you for the request, comrade.
I have looked through u/pm_me_steamgaemz's posting history and found 7 N-words, of which 0 were hard-Rs.
His comment gave me motion sickness thanks mods
TIL I have more karma than keemstar
Thank you for the request, comrade.
u/keem5tar has not said the N-word yet.
Well, not on reddit
Thank you for the request, comrade.
I have looked through u/gallowboob's posting history and found 1 N-words, of which 1 were hard-Rs.
This is why we love you guys best mods
I watched BR2049 in the movie theater. After it was over, I paid for another ticket and waited for the second viewing. Mesmerized.
While I liked this movie, it’s a visual masterpiece, I do feel it missed the point of the first one entirely.
The sequel missed that the replicants ARENT really robots at all. They are actually pretty much human beings, except also children who don’t get to live long and are being huntec simply because they are IP. They express emotion and free will and almost seem to be exuberantly lapping up this existence better than any pilled out human in existence. Including Deckard who is more of a dead eyed robot than any of them.
It’s the irony of the whole story. Roy Batty saves Deckard signaling he doesn’t actually intend harm. He’s just a scared feral child who wants to live and mourns that others don’t actually celebrate his existence for what he’s actually seen and accomplished.
The sequel doesn’t quite grasp this and allows the protagonist to indeed also be robotic.
Excellent comment. As someone who was around when the first one was released I totally agree.
I love the feral child analogy, he is half-wolf
Not 100% clear what u say here but yes the deep meaning in the first was turned into popcorn slop in the second. The first asked the questions about the soul and eternal life. The second had pretty images an empty plot and didnt ask anything new or interesting. It really was an empty vessel. Great cinema is more that 'beautiful cinematography'
But I don’t think he’s robotic at all. He’s quite emotional many times.
I don’t think so. The original it’s a masterpiece.
The original is a masterpiece, my fav movie of all time but Blade Runner 2049 is another masterpiece tbh, just below the original but so good on its own.
Still visually unmatched. Every frame feels like art
never seen anything from this universe. i like sci-fi, 5th element and matrix rank really high in my top list. is this ballpark similar?
Agree. But it was way too slow for me. And I can’t put it above Dune or a number of other of his films.
Looking for this comment yes lmao. The big reason that stops me to do a rewatching.
Why?
It’s not like the modding community is big enough to warrant their own sub.
It’s just going to be another dead sub.
It's just this guy advertising a way to ambitious mod he's working on.
Just like my prawn suit that phased through the earth.
Should’ve called it subMODica
I immediately went to check if this was the "Subnautica Remastered" guy from last night, that has no actual road map or even work for their project yet, but wanted people to sign up for their Discord server, and sure enough it is.
Seems like this guy is hell bent on bringing other modders together to make his dream happen. Unfortunately he's going about it in the scummiest way possible.
Are those cogs AI-generated?
I’m surprised it didn’t exist already
me as well
Oh how I want a subnautica 1 mod for food that is simple and works, to give me preserved food with better stats
I am writing this because I recently posted this here and a handful of people were asking about mods and how to install them. If you've completed the game already once (or thrice) they can still make the game quite a bit more enjoyable for another playthrough and if you're on your first game, they can greatly enhance Subnautica and make it an even better game!
First I'll tell you how to install them, then I'll tell you about some of my favourites and what they do exactly.

Right, in order to use mods in Subnautica you will need to install QMods first. Simply open the .exe, type in the directory of your Subnautica folder (Mine is "C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Subnautica" but yours may differ) and follow the instructions the installer gives you. QMods will then create a folder inside your Subnautica folder called "QMods". It might need a restart of subnautica to actually create the folder. And then you're done with the hard part.
To install mods, download them from www.nexusmods.com/subnautica and place their mod folder into the QMods folder. A properly installed mod folder looks like this. Be careful, some mods put their mod folder into a folder called QMods in their .zip. Make sure that you place the mod folder into your QMods directory, and not the QMods folder containing the mod folder. Did that make any sense? Just try to make it look like the screenshot above.
Some mods also require you to install SMLHelper. You can install this like any other mod. (Take the mod folder out of the .zip and place it inside your QMods folder.)
Now that wasn't hard, was it? It's also firmly explained on the download page of Qmods.

On to Part 2. I'll now tell you about some of my favourite mods and a quick summary of what they do. But if you want to check them out yourself, feel free to hop over to https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/ and try them all. There are only like 80 so it shouldn't take long. These are just some of my personal favourites, if you have some more you like, feel free to throw them into the replies.

InternetsLIVE H2.0 Vibrant Shader DX11 by InternetsLuitjens
This shader makes the game a lot more vibrant and beautiful. I've been using this for a week now and turning it off makes the vanilla game look kinda dull now. It has a separate installer and you don't need to do anything in the QMods folder.

Map by Newman55
Adds a map to the signal blip section of your PDA, you can either set it to reveal itself only when you have been at that location already, or you can unlock it all instantly. Has some nice settings to configure in the game options. New Biome Map is an add-on to this mod. It adds a biome map with marked distances, radiation zones and cave entrances. Use at your own risk, might contain minor exploration spoilers.

MoreQuickSlots by Randy Knapp
Allows a total of 12 quickslots, very useful and simple.

SlotExtender by Senna7608
This one is criminally underrated, it adds 4 additional upgrade slots to your seamoth, allowing for some really neat things. (Like 4 Speed boost modules as you could see in my previous post)

Upgraded Vehicles by PrimeSonic
Adds new upgrade modules. Speed boost modules will increase your speed in any vehicle by +35%. The Hull upgrade module was modified to actually protect against all damage sources and it's actually useful now. And you can build a Seamoth / PRAWN Mk II now, wich has 2 speed boost, 2 hull strengthen and 2 power efficiency modules pre-installed so they don't take up space in the upgrade slots.

SeaglideMapControls by Randy Knapp
Sets F to toggle map of the seaglide and Right-Click to only toggle the lights. No more hours of clicking to turn of the damn terrain map!

MoreSeamothUpgrades by ahk1221
Adds a depth module mk. IV and V for the seamoth as well as a drill arm module and a thermal reactor. Basically allows you to use the Seamoth in the deep biomes where normally only a PRAWN would survive.

Habitat Control Panel by Randy Knapp
Adds a control panel with build in beacon to your habitat construction tool. Allows to change the color of internal and external walls and adds a slot for a power cell in case you need some emergency power for your base.

CustomBeacons by Randy Knapp
Set any Beacon Blip to more colors and more awesome icons.

AutoSortLockers by Randy Knapp
Adds custom Lockers that automatically sort items when put them into the AutoSorter. Set your own criterias for specific lockers and change their color and stuff. Very nice for people that would like to know where their goddamn copper that they definitely remember having is.

Decorations Mod by OSubMarin
Adds a bunch (Actually more like a metric fuckton) of awesome decorations and new plants for your nice little sea base.

White Lights by Randy Knapp
Allows you to customize the color of vehicle lights. Just change some values inside the config.txt.

ExteriorPlantPots by ahk1221
Adds the 3 standard plant pots, except those ones can be placed outside and filled with water plants.

Vehicle Module Fabricator by PrimeSonic
Adds a fabricator that can fabricate all vehicle upgrades. No more running to your moonpool again. Also compatible with other mods that add their own upgrades.

Custom Load Screen by Kylinator25
Allows you to use your own image file for the load screen.

Base Light Switch by ahk1221
Adds a light switch to your base that will turn off the internal lights. Neat, but not that useful.

Thanks for this. Any modders out there able to add a glass dome for MPRs??
Do we make a mod? Or we just mod the game? (Pls upvote or........ i will [bad word] you)
I did all of this, but for some reason, there is no mod section in settings, one time it worked, but stopped working after i quit and rejoined
This is the post I've been waiting for!! Thanks!!
this is a great guide for new subnautica modders qmods has a new page
https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/201
just in case anyone needs it
how do you make see-through parts of the ship like in the second ship?
They are decks. First I make a shape with the first level of the habs. After that I Build at the back and do the engine area and General quarters. generally at least up three to fours levels. For the second ship I did the cockpit at the highest level about mid ship. After that I did habs adjacent to the tip of the ship and the cockpit to make a slanted nose with crowlings and removed the habs after that. In order then to get from the General quarter area to the deck at ground level you just have to add a landing bay to get down. This is a closer look at the entrance to the deck *
I think people who complain that the only way to make good builds is with glitch building just have a skill issue
Like I always tell people just experiment. Throw stuff together move stuff around and you eventually turn out something cool.
I agree, that’s how I got my expedition ship. I made a bunch of funny looking ones until I got something I like.
I didn’t realize we could have this many builds. I thought it was like six or something
You can archive ships for long time storage in your freighter. You just have to empty out the inventory and you can use the fleet management system to put it in.
Oh okay cool. I thought that only worked for starships
Seeing builds like these makes me realise how much I lack creativity
Just keep experimenting. My first few builds were flying boxes haha. I go online to look at pictures of spaceship concepts alot
How do you do the open bays?
Stated above:)
Smart crafter (I think it's called) More ingots
I could barely play without those two.
the one that fixes the exterior module lighting.
More Quick Slots - your mileage may vary on whether this accounts for "QOL" or not but I can't stand the arbitrary limitation on quick slots in the Subnautica games so I like this
EasyCraft - lets you craft items if you have ingredients for the ingredients, speeding up crafting. It still costs the full amount of energy for every craft it would normally take. It also lets you craft stuff from nearby containers instead of just the inventory.
SnapBuilder - lets you snap your buildings to a grid, optionally fine tune it for easier building
UITweaks - Allows bulk crafting (still requires full energy and duration, customizable), allows toggling beacons based on colour, and some other small tweaks
Give me a list of some of the best mods u guys recommend!
I will always recommend the mod made by u/TheDal known as Quality Captains. https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=21038.0
Nexerelin is basically the goto mod for Starsector. Adds a bunch of features, turns it into a 4x game, and is generally used as a framework upon which one adds further factions content (extra mods like UAF, for example)
if I do make a nexerelin playthrough, what would u recommend to maximize my experience and fun?:)
Tbh I'm not entirely sure, since I've only recently started diving into mods (I love vanilla). For you, it depends on personal preferences.
Colony building? Terraforming mod and that one that allows bigger colony sizes
Ashes of the domain perhaps? I've heard a few good things about it.
For factions...There's a lot...Iron Shell, UAF, so forth.
Just poke around and try and find something I suppose
i would actually recommend poking around the nex settings, if you dont add many faction mods the hegemony end up steamrolling the entire sector. i made starting colonies untakeable and enabled pirate conquests, that way the sector colonizes and fights for frontier planets.
also, ashes of the domain is a very big content mod (in fact its 5 mods), but the vaults of knowledge and virtues of society modules struggle a bit with writing. ive found industrial evolution to suit my playstyle better.
You want faction enhancing mods and a few faction mods that go against the Hegemony. Otherwise they'll very quickly take over the core worlds.
Turn off colonization and invasions until you got your own colony set up in the Nexerelin settings. Otherwise things may become way too chaotic too fast. Not to mention that the Hegemony has a habit of just eating everyone around it.
My basic "must have" list (Not containing the countless minor quality improvement stuff like Combat Chatter, Battle Music, Stellar Networks or Speedup that I am using)
Nexerlin, Ashes of the Domain - all of it, Industrial Evolution, Random Assortment of Things, Secrets of the Frontier, Unknown Skies, Second in Command, Ship Mastery Sysem
I also virtually never play without The Furry Portait pack and Project TAILS, but that is more of a matter of taste. I like to imagine pure humans getting nearly crowded out by para-humans, the offspring of deviant body modders.
Any (or all) of the 'mega' mods are absolutely worth adding.
Personally, I try to 'balance' things out: If I add a low-tech faction, I try to add a high-tech counterpart, and vice-versa.
But Personally, i recommend adding mods in 'small' batches: 3-5 new mods per playthrough until your startup load screen is obscene, or you know exactly what you want.
This is what I've been doing. I have like 15 mods now, still boots pretty quick. I'm looking forward to it taking an hour to launch the game sometime next year.
Aotd, nex, speedup, indevo, seeker, vayra ships, superweapons.
Musterkolonie expands Africa
Rising Dragon expands China
These are the only two I can personally recommend since EMDLV, the Spanish one, is likely getting integrated into KX proper in the near future.
Musterkolonie is great but it slows my game down to unplayable speeds
I’ve only played the Right-KMT from Rising Dragon but it doesn’t seem that good, the focus tree was a lot of slop filler content.
Eh, there's similar problems with Rising Dragon as there are with World Domination to me (Chinese developers really like content bloat for some reason). It's more tolerable in Rising Dragon for me as I don't really take playing it too seriously and use toolpack to get all of the wacky stuff out of the way.
I was actually going to mention the Spanish one as well, if/when it get's integrated that's fantastic, that mod is one of the best submods for KX that are on the workshop
The return of the nmdvp is just incredible
People hate that mod so much. But it's literally Kx is post to be crazy 😭 and wacky
I do not endorse that mod personally because the reason of its existence is spite. But more power to you if you want to play it.
It’s likely to get integrated? Have the devs spoken about the possibility?
I saw someone in the discord say that the mods said it was a possibility, nothing more nothing less.
The naval rework mod
If you also want a changed visual feeling. There is: Colorful Subideologies, Subideologies in Diplo Screen, Zzzpic and Coloured Puppets Kaiserredux
Surprised nobody mentioned Miracle on the Vistula for Poland content, the commie path is pretty fun
so I'm looking for mods for subnautica like: vanilla expanded or composite buildables, any suggestions?
Maybe add the sub mod that adds the mesmer-like sub i don't remember what it's called though
for some reason I can't find it on nexus but it was here
Good idea anybody now what is the name of it
It was bloosom
Blossom hypno submarine
Return of the ancients is really cool.
The hydra feels great if you want a seatruck done well.
The red plague is a nice horror mod that will modify the game a bunch.
maybe hydra but I'm rather looking for mods to diversify the normal gameplay and not red plague or return of the ancients but I'll play them someday
Came looking for mods for a new gameplay.
What mods would you want : New vechicles new fishes ? Maybe even new story line like red plague or something idk
I guess a few mods that could add some twists to new play through. The things u mentioned would fit just right. A couple new vehicles, extra tools, different fauna, additions to the story/quests. Quality of life features. Maybe even something graphical?
How easy is it to mod it? I'm used to mod Stardew Valley and Skyrim. Are some mods buggy or gamecrashing?
Thx in advance!!
Is it a sun panel but with either texture?
If you want this sun panel its one of things in Vanilla expanded
The only posts I can find about this are pretty old with non functioning mods so I was hoping to start a new and updated thread!
The mods that keep it playable for me are MCCC, Basemental, Lumpinou’s RPO, and Whicked Whims. As far as modders go I cannot recommend LittleMsSam enough. So many quality of life fixes and additions that make things interesting.
Since this is most of the main mods I use I want to add on to this list. I enjoy Rvsn mods, road to wealth mod and carls gameplay the last two gives the game some challenge but I do not recommend carls mod unless you want some challenge it nerfs a lot. Also snb bills
LittleMsSam is the backbone of the modding community, I swear. She has so many little mods and overhauls that just make gameplay so much smoother. I highly recommend her mods for simmers who play unmodded too, they add that extra oomph that EA couldn’t be bothered with.
Add UI cheats to this existing list and it’s my game to a T.
I like to play semi-realistic and mainly with legacy challenges (or playing house with my ships) so pretty much Everything by ADeepIndigo and Simrealist usually choosing Adeepindigo over simrealist when theres overlap like i use Simulated Endings/Golden years over Mortem for instance
- Realistic childbirth by pandasama (currently broken bc of the EA pregnancy mess up) adds so much to pregnancy and childrearing, not just realism but so many sweet interactions like pregnancy cuddles and having other sims feel your belly or saying hi to the baby its so cute
Grannies cookbook, Brazenlotus, S&S, TianaSims and Icemunmun are great for custom foods and if you use SCCO or S&S's realistic cooking mod you can have them all at the fridge or in restaurants
Lumpinous RPO mod is great too and their LGBT and religion mods
JaneSimsten has a lot of custom skills that you can build like archery, ballet etc which are great for storytelling and the animations are great with the ballet mod in particular
MC Command Center - also pretty necessary like i cant imagine playing without it.
Basemental drugs - great for more adult gameplay. the patreon version has a mechanic where you can go on binges and get arrested lol
Wicked whims - you can turn the spicy stuff off (i go back and forth with it) but the other features of the mod are a must have like a fertility/menstrual cycle, birth control mechanic, personality and attraction system etc
100 base game traits and more traits in CAS by Chingyu allow more complex sims with multifaceted personalities
The begging and pickpocketing mods by needcoffeeforthat are great for
i have more but these are the mods i use for storytelling and realism and the others are just quality of life stuff. For quality of life mods i would suggest checking out LittleMissSams mods in particular
Long time player of the Sims (on/off for 20 years) but I've recently decided to try mods! My current ones are:
MCCC by DeaderPool: it's everything.
"Higher Business Activities" and "Purchase clothing at a small business" by LunarBritney : first one adds 3 more slots of activities to your small business and the second one allows you to have mannequins that customers can try on the cloths and buy if they like it!
"Bank", "Flowfit" and "Home and Land" from SimRealist : I LOVE that I just can just take a loan to buy another house instead of waiting for my sims to have the money! The physical bank is also so cool. "Flowfit" adds new gym equipments with animations include and "Home and Land" allows you to mow your grass, iron your clothes and other simple chores that makes the game more realistic to me!
"Get makeover" by Simsefin : Add the activity of doing makeover on business and hobbies! So you can open a salon!
"Small Business Overhaul" by Marquillo : it allows you to sell basically anything without using "business surfaces" in business and hobbies by clicking "set for sale" on a item! I was finally able to do my pawn shop that furniture and weird stuffs! It can also overrides the behavior of your employees so they are more focus on their tasks and you can do the same for your customers (more focus on the activities of your business).
As you can see I really love Business and Hobbies but it definitely was missing some little things ahah
That's all the mods I have! With a few CC stuffs (less than 20), my whole file is 1 Go. I don't know how people gets to 200 go and more 🙉🙉!
I forgot that I also have a mod that allows you to swipe items whenever you want (no cool down period) from the kleptomaniac trait! It was needed to fill out my pawn shop.
These are my personal favorites and I can’t play without them.
UI Cheats
MCCC - to slow down time
Lumpinou RPO,
Utopya - Kiss and grind, Romantic complaints
Katie mods - the one with all the romance, the one with where they are friends, the one with the loving parents
Sims control hub
Maple bell - more kisses mod, sweet moments
Nc4t - greetings mod
Lot51 - suite life mod
Kayla dot - NPC parties, wedding and after school invites
Simkatu - extended phone calls
My daughter commandeered my game controller to use on her xBox as that's how they stream in the dorm. Thus I can't play GTA any more (of course I can buy a new one...)
But she tells me I should download Sims because it's free. A long time ago actually. And I did, installed it, looked at it. Neat. And continued playing GTA at the time. But then I learned of Basemental Drugs. Huh? I've literally modded GTA into an offline roll play game and was a drug dealer. I can do that with Sims?
And I found a lot more interesting mods so now I'm playing GTA in Sims.
So, Basemental Drugs, Basemental Gangs, Extreme Violence with death stuff and autonomy turned off. I mainly use it to have an NPC who beat up my sim in prison, stalk her in the outside world. That said, a prison lot download with lockable cell doors so I could lock everyone in individual cells. Also for the prison and also earlier during high school, ControlAnySim so I could control the prison population. Also used it in high school where my sim started with the selling controlling all of the high school students.
Wicked Whims of course, plus Wicked Perversions. I mean, I'm playing GTA style here, gotta have The Vanilla Unicorn, LOL (that's the strip club in GTA if you're not familiar. It's in my Sims game now.)
Of course there's the common ones, MCCC and UI Cheats is important. Sims National Bank, if I'm playing a multi-sim household, it's very important. My sim was kicked out of the house because.... she got arrested... at 17 years old. That's when the prison lot was added. Luckily after her 6 months in prison, she had $400 in her bank account that went with her when I split her off the family.
If you play with the high school, More Students. I had 4 classrooms and 32 students (all students controlled with ControlAnySim.) I didn't fart around with the HS features of the pack. I played during the mornings and between the classes having my girl meeting the other kids in the bathroom to do her thing. That's where she got caught, expelled, and arrested with Basemental and after 5 days of rabbit hole jail, put her in the prison for 6 months.
SimNation Travel because it has cars (no, you don't drive them around) to force my sim to have to spend money. She has to fill it with gas and take it for repairs now and then spending money. Also SimCityLoans so she can have a car payment or a mortgage.
