That’s not a bar? Uhm, you don’t have many options… Maybe catch a late night movie somewhere like the Alamo or New Beverly? Go to Fred 62’s Diner in Los Feliz for a milkshake and fries? Idk. We live in a post-pandemic world, with a struggling economy, in an expensive city, where everyone stays home at night, and nothing is open late anymore… let me know what you find to do!

LA isn't really the city for non-bar/restaurant/venue oriented nightlife at 10pm. Unhoused folks will be getting ready to sleep in public spaces. Commercial businesses will be mostly closed. Definitely don't go to Venice Beach at 10pm.

There are plenty of cities where 'strolling' is a safe and interesting late night activity both nationally and internationally, so long as you avoid certain areas if it's late enough. New York, Washington DC, Paris, London and even smaller places like Palo Alto, Portland and many midwestern cities with reinvigorated main streets are all places I'd happily explore at 10pm without getting the bad vibes and stymied exploration I'd get here in LA.

Century city mall is stunning for out of towners. It’s not a traditional “mall.” And there’s The Grove. Walking along rodeo at night is nice too. I recommend the Venice/SM Pier in the day.

Good suggestion. Comedy is another great option. Maybe I’m old because I tend to go to the earlier shows.

KCRW Summer Nights usually have a nighttime museum and DJ sets/drinks

A lot of museums, the zoo, and the Aquarium of the Pacific have night time special events throughout the year- you just have to check all their schedules and see what interests you!

Griffith Observatory. or Mt. Wilson is cool if it’s a clear night, you’re up for a drive, and you have binoculars

Getty is open until 9pm on Saturdays. I know it’s not late late, but still an option

For Ktown, Breakroom 86 and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang are usually pretty fun, if you like retro. 

Davey Wayne's is also retro fun and in Hollywood. People dance and come up to you.

The Baked Potato is a nice live jazz/ diner spot.

The Wolves in DTLA is imo the most beautiful bar in the city and definitely has a cozy / sexy vibe along with incredible cocktails.

Tiki Ti is about as historic as it gets and they make great drinks.

Also, grabbing lunch and a drink Alcove/The Big bar is great.

Outside of that, my buddy and I typically just walk through Silver lake / echo Park and pop into whichever spot looks good. Honestly, the level of quality out there is pretty high and there are plenty of bars.

Personally, I've liked Lowboy and Bar Flores.

I'd caution against jackalope (speakeasy in seven grand). Was very nice but very expensive and (at least when we went) very empty.

Not quite in your area, but my favorite cocktail bar is Accomplice (attached to Little Fatty) in Mar Vista. Really playful and unique cocktail program.

If you’re near WeHo at any point, I like Bar Next Door for a more classic menu with a twist.

I echo everyone saying Thunderbolt, and the people behind Thunderbolt have recently opened a bar in Studio City that I haven’t been able to try yet — Night on Earth. No idea if it lives up to the hype, but I’m very intrigued by the menu.

Not silverlake specific but: 1886, here’s looking at you, everson Royce bar, capri, normandie club… if you’re going to the Hollywood bowl go have a martini at Musso and Frank.

It's very 1950s touristy, but you have to get one drink at Hop Louie's in Chinatown. ("The Pagoda"). Their Scorpion Bowl ain't bad. Just stick to one. Food's just average Americanized generic.

In the Silverlake area El Condor is my favorite especially cause of their food, along with Tiki Ti. Jay’s Bar is a hole in the wall, but their cocktails are great as are their bar bites. A little to the south is Thunderbolt, one of the few bars to make top 50 bar lists in LA.  The other is Mírate, a little north of Silverlake. It’s a restaurant, but the atmosphere and drinks are fantastic. 

Since you’re heading to Hollywood, Good Time’s At Davy Wayne’s is probably my favorite. Cocktails are good, but it’s worth going to for the setting alone. Don’t look anything else up, go in blind. Black Rabbit Rose is from the same ownership group, fun little bar that has jazz shows in the back annd magicians doing sleight of hand in front, and the drinks are a little better. Right by the Bowl is my favorite dive - Powerhouse. You won’t get a cocktail worth writing home about, but it’s an institution. 

If you’re heading downtown, Wolf & Crane Bar is amazing, especially if you’re into Japanese whiskey. Clifton’s reopened recently, but can be a pain to get into. Top story is also a tiki bar. Everson Royce bar is also a classic and worth it if you’re in Arts District. I’d suggest grabbing a bite at Guerilla Tacos and your first drink there (though it might be temporarily closed?), then heading over. Apotheke has a spot in LA. Drinks are pricy, but pretty unique. Pound for pound, best cocktails imo are at The Wolves. Plus the art deco interior is beautiful. If you want a downtown rooftop, Perch is probably my favorite, but not necessarily worth going out of your way for. 

A little out of your way, but if you find yourself in the Valley (North Hollywood area in particular) Idle Hour is one of the last surviving Programmatic Architecture from when LA had car destination back in the 20s and 30s. It’s shaped like a huge barrel, and their drinks and food are solid. Tiki No is a block away, but if you’re willing to go further out of your way Tonga Hut is the second oldest continuously running tiki bar in LA, also worth the stop. 

Go to a museum like LACMA or the Academy Museum. Book a whale watching tour in Long Beach or stargaze out in the desert.

Not sure what type of after hours nightlife you’re looking for, but get on the Restless Nites and Resident Advisor mailing lists for LA for after hours dance parties.

Nightlife in LA is horrendous compared to Miami, assuming you like to go to nightclubs rather than take night hikes. If you prefer the latter, though, then LA is much better than Miami.

Hey bro, also a recent Miami transplant. California has insane curfew laws for bars and clubs and there's just no way around it.

From what I've been able to gather in the several weeks I've been here, is that people go out at 9 or 10 rather than 11 or 12 and usually try to find a house party after the bars close. This being Hollywood, high-end house parties in the hills are a huge part of youth culture.
