Affordable and Cozy Options
For those on a budget, especially college students looking for a romantic yet affordable dining experience, consider options like Kura Sushi. It's an engaging sushi conveyor belt restaurant that offers a fun and memorable experience without breaking the bank [1:2]. Eataly is another suggestion, known for its charming atmosphere and reasonable prices
[1:4].
Mid-Range Dining Experiences
If you have a slightly higher budget, Bacari in Silver Lake or on 3rd Street is recommended for its delightful ambiance [2:2],
[4:1]. Bavel is also highly praised for its delicious food, though it might stretch the budget slightly beyond $80 per person
[2:3],
[2:6].
High-End and Unique Settings
For a more upscale experience, Chateau Marmont offers a unique atmosphere with a touch of celebrity allure. While it can be pricey, the ambiance and attentive staff make it a memorable choice for a special occasion [3:1],
[3:2]. Another high-end option is Inn of the Seventh Ray, known for its romantic setting
[4:2].
Restaurants with Views and Lively Atmosphere
For those who enjoy a lively atmosphere with a view, Yamashiro is often recommended for its stunning vistas and vibrant vibe [5:0]. Other suggestions include Harriet’s and Bar Lis, which offer a combination of great views and a lively environment
[5:3]. Mother Tongue, with its rooftop space, provides a hip and energetic setting
[5:1].
Additional Recommendations
Other notable mentions include Citrin for its lovely atmosphere [4:3] and Holbox, a Michelin-starred Mexican seafood restaurant, for those willing to splurge a bit more
[5:1]. For a unique experience, Mrs. Fish offers live music, adding to the fun vibe
[5:5].
I’m looking for a nice, quiet, and cozy spot in LA to take my girlfriend out for Valentine’s Day. We’re both college students, so my budget is really tight. I’m already getting her flowers and a gift, so I just need a place for a sweet, romantic dinner (or even lunch).
It doesn’t have to be fancy—just somewhere with a nice ambiance where we can enjoy a meal without breaking the bank. Any hidden gems or underrated spots you’d recommend? Bonus points if it’s not too crowded and has a cozy, intimate vibe.
Try the sushi conveyor belt place called Kura sushi! It's a fun experience and affordable, very memorable and feels like you can take your time and people watch (and watch your food slowly move towards you if no one yoinks it away!). There are several locations of Kura sushi in LA.
The best plan at any income bracket is to cook at home on V day. The restaurant experience is awful: crowded, prefixed menus, and short time limits so they can seat more tables. Go out to that romantic spot the next day for a way better experience.
This! V-day is a shit show at restaurants.
i'm going on the 13th
eataly is nice, cheap and very cute.
Why did you wait till now to plan? Seems like it's going to be too late and you won't find anywhere to go. These are things that you should plan farther in advance. Sorry if this is not helpful answer.
we're going out on 13th not 14th
lol
I’ve got friends coming into town Valentine’s Day and I want to take them somewhere semi fancy.
What good recs for a dinner in Hollywood, Silver Lake, K-Town or Central LA in the $80 to $100 range per person?
Bacari, silver lake or 3rd street location!
I took my friends to Bavel and we absolutely loved it. Food was delicious!
Love Bavel! But I don't think I can eat there for under 80 lol
Taylors in Ktown is awesome.
But honestly, Valentine's Dinner might be disappointing, wherever you go.
I am sometimes cynical though.
Yup. We get takeout pizza and pop open a nice bottle of wine. Valentines Day is like Mothers Day at restaurants, just too crowded
Antico nuovo

Ice cream at awan or fluffy McClouds
Despite being born and raised in LA, I've never been to Chateau Marmont for dinner/drinks.
I realize its probably severely overrate, but thinking about a weekday date night.
Can anyone share their experience? How pretentious are they in letting people in, or is it reservations only if just going for drinks?
You need to call to get reservations for drinks—I called at like 6:30 pm on a random Tuesday and got space for 2 at around 9:30 that night. Can’t speak to exclusivity—the person who picked up noted my area code and commented that he was from the same state originally so who knows, maybe that was the ticket. 😂Be prepared to pay through the nose (my husband’s scotch and soda was genuinely $30). Valet was around $25. Atmosphere is lovely, though, and every staff person we interacted with was super kind and attentive.
Regarding the staff and prices, sounds similar to my experience at the Roosevelt.
Interesting as it's definitely not the same caliber of hotel or clientele. Roosevelt is more tourist or party client (literally where we would all go to "party"), where as chateau is more celebrity based and your not even allowed to take photos in the restaurant or bar for clients comfort. Last time I was at the Chateau I literally had Adam Driver, Jamie Fox, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Bradley Cooper, Al Pacino, Channing Tatum, and Steven Tyler all sitting around me at different tables at 10 on a Sunday.
The staff is great and the burgers aren’t bad. I think it’s a fun experience
I'm taking my S.O for her birthday dinner in about a month and a half and I am looking for somewhere nice. Any help is appreciated!
Inn of the seventh ray, Fia
Citrin is lovely.
Easily my favorite right now. The weather is perfect for it too at the moment.
Yamashiro
Chuck E Cheese
My man Charles Entertainment Cheese knows how to create the perfect ambiance
I like the atmosphere at Bacari Silverlake. That’s where my husband and I went for Valentine’s day
agree
I have a milestone birthday coming up and I’m looking for a great place to spend it! I really prefer places with a lively atmosphere and I love a view. It’ll be a date night and we love trying new food and have no dietary restrictions but I don’t tend to enjoy French food. Also not looking for a formal steakhouse. Vibes: Think Yamashiro (in terms of vibe/view), Bestia, Girl and the Goat, Pijja Palace in terms of food (I also love all seafood). I am planning to get drinks before so I want a place where it won’t feel out of place to be a little buzzed. Location: We live in the Verdugos but I’d love to go in a direction where there are some places to grab a drink before hand (Uber distance between the spots is fine). Most importantly the food has to be great! It doesn’t have to be fancy but I’d like to have an excuse to wear something cute. Price: No set price limit, I’d limit it to $$$$ out of $$$$$. Thank you in advance!
Ardor in West Hollywood.
Any of the locations at Level 8 (you can cycle through them for views, drinks, dinner, and clubbing).
Harriet’s, Bar Lis, boa steakhouse
Looks like it’s in New York, lol I don’t think I can swing that this time :( but thank you!
sorry, sent the wrong link - https://www.brokenshaker.com/location/los-angeles-hours-and-location/
Only had drinks, not food but Mrs. Fish with the live band is a really fun vibe. Rooftop at Perch just up the elevator.
I don't have personal recommendations but the question/challenge was so interesting I plugged it into https://enclude.com/ . LA's got such a vast array of dining options I'm not sure these are the best but thought I'd pass them along just in case they looked interesting.
Finally settled down after moving. Looking to start enjoying the food scene here with my SO. Budget isn't an issue, we also like to try unique culinary experiences. Thanks!
N/naka, but getting a reservation there is like throwing a needle at a fruit fly in hurricane force winds.
Interesting. It's an important dinner for me, so I'll have to definitely check this out.
Dialogue is Santa Monica, or somni I’m Beverly Hills. If you’re super pretentious: vespertine
Thanks! I'm not necessarily pretentious, but I am trying to make this into a special dinner.
Scratch bar in Encino. Chef's menu only. Super fun experience!
Thanks for the recommendation, we love things like "Secret" or "Chef's" menus!
Please comment your favorite date night / special occasion restaurants anywhere in the LA area that won't break the bank (<$100 per person)! Have a special anniversary coming up and looking to try something new. Thanks everyone!
Bacari in silverlake is a good one.
Dear John’s
A little crunchy but I like Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga every once in a while.
Etta - hip, younger clientele, great cocktails, louder, great food
Little Fatty - hip, young and old, great cocktails, loud, great Asian food
Bavel -arts district, birdie g’s - Santa Monica, gen sushi - little Tokyo , horses - Hollywood, little door - weHo, west Beverly grill - bev hills, Houston’s - Pasadena
Second Bavel.
Birdie G’s has a nice ambiance. In my opinion you’ll get the same ambiance and 5x better food for the same price at Bavel.
I really enjoyed birdie g’s due to the interesting menu and combinations. Definitely different than bavel but not any worse in my opinion. That farm cheese at bavel does hit different though
Hi! I recently started seeing someone and were going to be in LA next weekend and I’m attempting to plan a fun and romantic weekend. A few questions:
What are some of the best restaurants in LA I should consider making reservations for
Any nice spots we can sit outside with a nice city view and have a picnic
Any nice jazz clubs, music venues you’d recommend for a nice and relaxing evening out?
Any other romantic recs that might make this weekend extra special?
Thank you!
Palisades Park in Santa Monica is a great place for a picnic. It sits above PCH with views of the ocean and pier. I also agree with the Getty museum. I do t think the area where you’d picnic has views but it’s a great overall museum and phenomenal views elsewhere.
Kassi just opened on the rooftop of Hotel Erwin. Great views and solid food.
Dear John’s is a bit old school but romantic vibe, very dimly lit.
Uovo Marina del Rey - specifically this location because it’s right on the Marina and every seat has a view. Great pasta at very reasonable prices. The one caveat is they don’t take reservations. However you can put your name on the list and stroll around the marina.
Pasjoli
Michael’s Santa Monica
I second Dear John’s
Next weekend is the Music of John Williams concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Bring a picnic, a bottle of wine, and a pair of light sabers.
This - *the* picnic spot in LA is the Hollywood Bowl. Everyone gets there early, brings a picnic basket and a bottle of wine and picnics on the walkways or in their seats. There are even nearby restaurants that will pack picnic baskets for the bowl.
Definitely bring the lightsabers!!!
I believe you can picnic at The Getty museum. It’s a great museum to visit, mostly because of the buildings and the location. You can see the ocean from there. Arrange to be there at sunset for a picnic.
I also think the Rooftop at the Waldorf Astoria is great. Make a reservation and ask for a table right at the edge for the best views of the Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills.
What part of town are you staying in? The answer to that will help a lot.
Near the west side
Depending on how west you are: Margaux in Culver has a beautiful, romantic rooftop patio. Elephante in Santa Monica has a beautiful rooftop with beach views. If you’re willing to travel a little more East, Barnsdall Art Park is my favorite picnic spot with a view. Pretty good parking too, especially if you get there a little before noon (so you don’t have to park at the bottom of the hill). If you’re looking to pick up picnic supplies, I highly recommend the Cheese Store of Beverly Hills. Don’t be intimidated by their location- they are soooo friendly, with a good variety, and parking near rodeo is actually pretty easy and free. Eataly in Century city is also a fun place to shop for picnic supplies (just ignore the fact that you’re in a mall).
If you find yourself over at Barnsdall, make a reservation at Saffy’s. Order the dishkebab. You’re welcome. If you like Japanese food, N/Soto in mid city is the easier to get a reservation to sister restaurant of N/Naka. The inside and back patio are very cozy and romantic.
Chelsea and Fia Steak are next to each other in Santa Monica and both are incredible and romantic.
Far away from where you’re staying, but Perch in DTLA has great urban views and usually a really great band. Their food is good- not like exceptional by LA standards, but never disappointing, and out of towners are usually dazzled by it. It’s my favorite place to take those who are new to the city. And if you can’t make dinner reservations, their upstairs bar is open and is just as incredible and you can hear the music from up there too.
The Museum of Love ♥️
My bf’s birthday is coming up and I wanna plan a really really romantic dinner for us but I’m not from LA so I have no idea where to go lol Basically give me a restaurant you can think of where u fall in love w ur partner allll over again and get lost in conversations w them??
the little door
edit: grandmaster recorders, la rose cafe, and +1 to perch although the main appeal is the view rather than the food at perch
This is the answer. I’ve never found a more romantic spot that also had good food. It’s a gem. There’s a reason why The Little Door has been around for about 30 years.
Is there actually a minimum 45$ for food? it looks fantastic lol but im curious
Ha, I wasn't going to chime in because I'm not a big restaurant guy at all, but I searched to see if anyone else recommended the La Rose Cafe and am happy you did. The location is a little odd (sort of tucked away behind the Scientology center), but the vibe inside is joyous, the menu is expansive, and everything I have tried has been very tasty. What's more, the prices are extremely fair and the staff very friendly.
Call them before you go--it's a lovely place but they sometimes book out half the restaurant for a wedding, which makes it a bummer for diners in the other half. My husband and I live in the neighborhood and sadly can't bring ourselves to go anymore after we spent our last meal shouting across the table over the cha cha slide.
I’m not comfortable saying it’s the “most” romantic in the city, but Il Cielo’s patio (and general ambiance) is pretty great.
This is a very nice and romantic spot. I remember I took an ex-girlfriend there and it’s very intimate and romantic. Good call 👌
Paying $8 for water kinda kills the romance for me
It’s romantically expensive.
This place is very romantic
This place is good. But better at night. Too hot during the day
I’m not. It’s run down and cheesey as hell. It’s like the cliche to go on a romantic date for those that haven’t been to any one of the 100 nicer restaurants in LA.
I am more than happy to go anywhere in the city. I’m just looking for a cute date spot for 2 foodies!
My husband and I went to Tar & Roses in Santa Monica a couple of weeks ago and had a lovely romantic time. It has that candlelit exposed brick wine cellar aesthetic, you know, kind of basic but nicely intimate. Also the fried cauliflower was out of this fucking world. You could also watch the sunset over the ocean beforehand, which I also find quite romantic?
I dunno, though, I might just be really easy to romance... just compliments and good food is enough for me to feel the butterflies.
great list. Bicyclette has been closed unfortunately :(
Been really wanting to hit this spot up. How was it?
I thought it was really good. I had a nice grass fed NY Strip and my wife got the Sole. We loved the roasted broccolini with burrata too.
Atmosphere is really nice. I also recommend going to the Broad beforehand to get that extra classy feeling.
Great date spot.
There are so many. We’ve had a few recent datenights at Mother Wolf, Bacetti, and Dear Jane’s and the romance vibes were high as well as the food being good. Disclaimer we’ve been together 8 years and have no shame in eating a metric fuckton of carbs on date nights now lol. If you’re a new couple and trying to stay light on your feet so to speak, I like pretty much all the non-Kura sushi spots in Little Tokyo (Enya, Hama, Gen etc)
Strong disagree on Mother Wolf being romantic. Good food, but did not get romantic vibes at all from the lighting, decor, and acoustics.
Currently debating bacceti or oriel, never been to Chinatown so that makes it interesting but also not sure where to go after for drinks
Great Chinatown after dinner drink spots: General Lee’s and Melody Lounge. Apotheke is cool but isn’t great for a date night imo. Better for a night out with friends.
Inn of the 7th Ray is our favorite. Go when it's dark to get the full ambiance. It's mostly outside except the parts that are in an old church.
The food here is mid.
Agree, the food was just ok but the atmosphere is pretty charming.
