Can anyone recommend some cool ideas for my husband birthday coming up. What are good restaurants or fun things to do Beverly Hills, Culver City, downtown, idk something new and cool any ideas ?

People sometimes overlook the Alice Waters restaurant at the Hammer Museum. The food is great and the dining outside in the museum courtyard is very atmospheric.

Drive to Hermosa Beach, have dinner, walk along the Strand to Manhattan Beach, walk out on the piers, watch the sunset, look at all the styles of houses and decide which ones you like best.

Grab a hot chocolate and take advantage of any light displays that have gone up, like at the LA Zoo

They may have stopped it already but the night market at Yamashiro, has the best view of LA at night

Picnic at the Hollywood bowl

Movie in the park with food trucks

Kenneth Hahn state park near culver. Good views of DTLA and space to walk around.

Or Burton Chace park in the marina. Good spot to post up for a picnic and watch the boats pass by.

Bonus for the Marina… Renting a Duffy boat is pretty cheap (~$200 for 2 hours) so if things progress and you want to Marshall y’all’s friends you can fit up to 12 and ride around the marina! And it’s BYOB. Ton of fun.

Drive out to Pasadena to the Norton Simon museum. Then have a meal at any of the cool spots in old town.

Union is old town is one of my favorite restaurants. You can also go to Maestro, they have live music outside in the alley. Took my gf there a few weeks ago. Good was 8/10 buy environment and ambience was super romantic and fun. Drinks are 10/10.

I live near old town and I’m spoiled for choice when eating out. There are also a lot of restaurants that are in the adjacent area that are fun but can be easier to park at than old town. Or go for excellent Asian food in the sgv. Pretty much any cuisine you could want. Window shop after if you do old town and end the night with ice cream from wanderlust and some friendly competition at the neon retro arcade.

Also, don’t count out some touristy stuff, sometimes it’s fun for those who live in LA to play tourist, my friends and I went on the Dearly Departed tour. I had no idea a slew of interesting locations (houses from Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, where Hugh Grant got arrested, murders, etc) was within a mile radius of my place, which was fun to relay when people came to visit me.

Must try date night recommendations in East LA?

Visiting from Ohio, looking for cute spots for date night for my partner and I. We do have a rental car but would like to stay fairly close (30 min max).

Dinner/lunch spots are fine and any activities your average visitor might not know about

I'd personally recommend the beaches in the South Bay (Manhattan, Hermosa) for a more pleasant ambiance than Santa Monica for a date (or in general).

Beach picnics can be affordable and fun! There is plenty of room on the beaches by Santa Monica for safe social distancing.

Watching the sunset from The Observatory. It’s free and absolutely beautiful. The bottom parking lot is free and walking up takes about 10-15 minutes. The top parking lot is $15

I’ve never been to the observatory and the website says they’re closed. Can you still go and just hang out on the grounds?

So the physical building has been closed because of the pandemic :( but the park itself is open to the public and you can go and hangout there. I did it a few times during the pandemic (just make sure you practice social distancing and wear your mask :D)

Fia Restaurant in Santa Monica is one of my favorites.

Culver’s city has some cool spots too. I like Piccalilli there.

Perch in DTLA is also nice.

Some of these can be on the expensive side but good for an occasion.

Looking for Affordable & Romantic Dinner Spots in LA for Valentine’s Day

Posted by spongedrake · in r/FoodLosAngeles · 7 months ago

I’m looking for a nice, quiet, and cozy spot in LA to take my girlfriend out for Valentine’s Day. We’re both college students, so my budget is really tight. I’m already getting her flowers and a gift, so I just need a place for a sweet, romantic dinner (or even lunch).

It doesn’t have to be fancy—just somewhere with a nice ambiance where we can enjoy a meal without breaking the bank. Any hidden gems or underrated spots you’d recommend? Bonus points if it’s not too crowded and has a cozy, intimate vibe.

The best plan at any income bracket is to cook at home on V day. The restaurant experience is awful: crowded, prefixed menus, and short time limits so they can seat more tables. Go out to that romantic spot the next day for a way better experience.

What area would you prefer?

Here are a few I like for date night, but they might be out of your area:

Cliff's Edge - In Silverlake. The whole restaurant has a cool tree house vibe to it.

Black Rabbit Rose - You don't need to attend a magic show to get dinner. The Thai food comes from next door, but the awesome drinks and speakeasy vibe really sells the place.

Yamashiro - Next to the Magic Castle, it offers amazing views of the city. A great last look at LA before you take off.

I hope this helps.

Places for date night in Los Angeles

Here are some great date night ideas in Los Angeles:

  1. Griffith Observatory: Enjoy stunning views of the city and the stars. You can hike up to the observatory or take a romantic stroll through Griffith Park.

  2. The Getty Center: Explore impressive art collections and beautiful gardens. Admission is free, and the architecture is stunning, making it a perfect backdrop for a date.

  3. Santa Monica Pier: Enjoy a classic beach date with rides, games, and dining options. Take a sunset walk along the beach for a romantic atmosphere.

  4. Rooftop Bars: Check out places like Perch or The Highlight Room for breathtaking views of the city skyline while enjoying cocktails.

  5. Dinner at a Unique Restaurant: Consider dining at places like Bestia (Italian), n/naka (Japanese kaiseki), or The Bazaar by José Andrés for a memorable culinary experience.

  6. Live Music or Comedy Shows: Look for venues like The Hollywood Bowl or The Comedy Store for a fun night filled with entertainment.

  7. Art Walks: Explore local art scenes, such as the Downtown LA Art Walk, where you can enjoy galleries, food trucks, and live music.

Recommendation: For a mix of culture and romance, I recommend starting your evening at The Getty Center for art and views, followed by dinner at a nearby restaurant. This combination offers a perfect blend of creativity and intimacy, making for a memorable date night.
