What Redditors are Saying

Best Pimple Patches for Acne

TL;DR

  • Hero Mighty Patch: Popular choice for effectiveness and invisibility during daytime [1:1], [2:2]
  • COSRX Master Patch Intensive: Highly recommended for sensitive skin, stays on well overnight [2:3], [5:8]
  • Rael Microneedle Patches: Effective for deep acne and reducing redness [5:5]

Effectiveness of Pimple Patches

Pimple patches are generally effective in extracting pus from pimples and preventing picking. Many users have found that they help flatten pimples overnight or reduce the temptation to squeeze them [1:1], [1:2]. Hydrocolloid bandages are often recommended as a cost-effective alternative to branded patches [1:8], [5:11].

Recommended Brands

Several brands were frequently mentioned across discussions. The Hero Mighty Patch is praised for its fast action and thin design, making it suitable for daytime use [1:1], [4:2]. COSRX patches are favored for their strong adhesion and effectiveness, especially for sensitive skin [2:3], [5:10]. Rael's microneedle patches are noted for their ability to address deeper cystic acne [5:5].

Budget-Friendly Options

For those seeking budget-friendly options, cutting hydrocolloid bandages into smaller pieces can be a practical solution [1:8], [5:6]. Good Molecules and PanOxyl PM Overnight Spot Patches were also suggested as affordable alternatives [3:1].

Considerations for Sensitive Skin

Individuals with sensitive skin should consider patches that adhere well without causing irritation. COSRX Master Patch Intensive was highlighted as a good option for sensitive skin due to its gentle adhesive [2:3]. Users also recommend ensuring the patches are applied correctly after moisturizing to maximize their effectiveness [5:1], [5:4].

In summary, while there are many pimple patch options available, the Hero Mighty Patch, COSRX Master Patch Intensive, and Rael Microneedle Patches stand out for their effectiveness and suitability for different types of acne. Consider your skin type and budget when choosing the best patch for your needs.

i’ve been thinking of ordering some off amazon since i’m breaking out and school is restarting soon. any recommendations, or any ones to avoid? thanks!

well depends on what working means for you, i use them for whenever i want to pop a pimple and IM SURE the pimple will pop without squeezing too hard or for too long ill pop it and then ill put the pimple patch on and the pimple is pretty much flat the next day OR i put them on on a pimple that isnt ready to pop and i just want to keep the temptation of squeezing it away.

Ambitious_Sand_711 · OP · 2 years ago

yes, that’s pretty much what im looking for since i have a big problem with picking at my face especially with those pimples that are ready to pop haha

1 upvotes on reddit
chaneloberlinkappa · 2 years ago

dont pick, honestly, my skin got so bad about a month ago bc of picking, only pop whenever theyre ready, like you can see the gunk ready to be popped, otherwise dont touch them, i still have two dark spots from like a month ago from squeezing so hard, but i was desperate. never again

any hydrocolloid bandages work, so most brands that handle superficial pimples are the same. for the deeper ones, the Zitsticka ones have to be the best. they have those micro darts that make the stubborn ones hurt so much less.

I have tried many different patches and found that they all work well. I just got some on Amazon cosrx brand and they work great and we’re not expensive

Pimple patches do bring out the gunk and help stop picking. My favorite ones are the mighty patch as I believe they work the fastest out of the ones I’ve tried. However they can be a bit pricey. I’ve ordered a few different ones off of Amazon and haven’t had any that I would avoid ordering again.

One thing to consider when buying them is the sizes they come with. Some seem like they have so many more than others making them more cost effective but in reality they have a bunch of really tiny ones that aren’t as helpful in my opinion.

The peach slices brand is good too! Or honestly, buy a box of hydrocolloid bandages and cut them into smaller pieces yourself. No need to waste money on name brands when they do the same thing.

Best pimple patches or acne spot treatment??

Posted by AlexisPullen9 · in r/Ulta · 2 years ago

My face is super sensitive and one product can cause it break out all over. I need something to help get rid of these spots. I think acne patches will probably help through the night but I’ll try anything. My skin is combo and sensitive.

I really like the COSRX Master Patch Intensive. It's in the yellow and white box and runs $25 for 90ct. Adhesives can cause a reaction for me, but these are perfectly fine. A big plus is that these stay on nicely. Others that I have tried are thicker and lift very easily so I'd wake up with them on my pillow as opposed to my face.

I'd like to try pimple patches for deep acne but there are so many brands out there that it's nearly impossible to tell what actually works and what is just marketing.

So which ones have you used and recommend? Something a bit more budget-friendly than Zitsticka please.

Simply the best! And I’ve tried a lot. Super helpful especially during a purge. Way better than Mighty Patch but I still like the invisible Mighty Patches to wear during the day because they blend seamlessly with makeup.

I like Rael's heating patches but I haven't tried these. I've been using the Cosrx pimple patches and I like them a lot. They stick well and are conspicuous enough to wear during Zoom calls.

4 upvotes on reddit
wolfsgurl · 3 years ago

I love rael. The microneedle ones are best for before they pop, regular ones after they pop. I can kill an oncoming cyst with a few days of the microneedle ones if i use them right when i start to feel the painful spot. I can drain a popped pimple within 1-4 patches depending on the size of the pimple and dramatically reduce redness using the regular ones

Edited for more detail

Hiya, I've been using these but I have to say I'm underwhelmed, they really don't seem to do much, even on very "ripe" whiteheads. I've been applying them at night after my skincare routine and leaving them overnight. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or if there are better ones out there - any recommendations?

4 upvotes on reddit
E
elianna7 · 3 years ago

I like the Rael ones but CosRx are my favourite!

The more moist the pimple, the better it sucks up the pus for me. I make sure my face is very well-moisturized, I wait for it to dry down a bit, then apply the patches. Also works well post-shower.

Are you sure they’re stuck on well? If they’re not, they won’t do a great job. Also know that you sometimes need to use them for a few days for them to do the whole job!

2 upvotes on reddit
sausah · OP · 3 years ago

I stick them on as well as I can but maybe I'll wait till longer after my skincare as I do tend to put them on straight after. Also, it appears I've been expecting far too much - I imagined I'd stick one on and in the morning the spot would be gone 🤣

I’m on a hunt to try and find some good ones. I’ve tried a couple brands but aren’t quite satisfied with them. My favourites so far have been the spot medic patches. Please give me your recommendations and I’ll buy them all over time to try considering I’m going through at least a pack weekly.

These are my go-to now as well! I prefer the ones with tapered edges because the standard ones felt like they would lift off if I tried to apply my skincare over the top.

CosRX do a really similar one in an oval shape but Hero Mighty Patch wins out slightly more for me because they're easier to find.

5 upvotes on reddit
thewigglez206 · OP · 29 days ago

I just take a cotton tip after I’ve done my skincare with some water on one side and dry on the other and wipe off the skincare where I want to put the patch.

I’ll definitely try these ones thanks guys

3 upvotes on reddit
buckets62 · 29 days ago

I’ve tried a few, the Garnier ones are virtually invisible and relatively effective, the Skin Control ones are very effective but a bit conspicuous for daytime wear, COSRX are good but I think only available online so annoying when you want them immediately, the Formula 10.0.6 are surprisingly good, also thin and almost invisible and you get heaps in the pack so very good value you can get them at Kmart, I’ve also tried the Bandaid hydrocolloid plasters and cut them down into smaller sized patches, no active ingredients in those but they’re still surprisingly good and they heal the skin very quickly

6 upvotes on reddit
jelly070 · 29 days ago

I really like the Some by Mi ones. They’re thinner on the outer edges so they almost disappear, decently adhesive too.

5 upvotes on reddit
-silverdust- · 28 days ago

Same. Love the adhesion of their patches as they can last overnight

1 upvotes on reddit

Another vote for these. I used to use the cosrx ones but found they either didn’t seal properly so one side was always a bit flappy or they were obvious 😭

1 upvotes on reddit

I like the mecca brand ones purely for the fact that they're almost invisible so great for daytime wear

8 upvotes on reddit
vetofun · 29 days ago

Yeah I second Mecca ones, they are basically invisible and don’t leave the weird sticky ring like some others! Do they actually ‘do’ anything to help heal the spot aside from making it impossible to pick it… debatable!

They do a pretty good job of flattening the pimple.

They are not all the same! Also, peace out has other active ingredients. Which some people might like, but it can also cause further irritation around the pimple.

They're not all the same 😩 Personally I would buy the Walgreens generic, and they never really stuck and were more noticeable. After I bought the Panoxyl, I ended up using less of them since they wouldn't fall off as easily. Although they all achieve the same thing, some are definitely better than others in other factors.

Yeah, I’ve tried a couple of other brands but the only ones that completely seal all the way around the patch and stay on (even during a shower) are the Peace Out for me. I hate that they are so expensive but I was doing the same as you and having to use 2 or 3 for each 1 of Peace Out. I think it could possibly be due to the fact that I have an oily face, and whatever adhesive Peace Out uses just sticks better to my face. Definitely the same active ingredient in all the other ones I tried though! I wish the cheaper ones worked better for me. I’ll keep trying!

I hesitate to even comment because I feel like these are the best kept secret in terms of products for acne. Incredible value for the price point. I like the soothing ones too!

ETA not gatekeeping hesitation, but a desire to keep them from jacking up the price. Its insane how cheap they are

COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch

Full Review: The COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch is a widely recognized product in the acne treatment community, particularly praised for its hydrocolloid technology that aims to absorb impurities and promote healing. Users frequently comment on its excellent adhesion and the variety of sizes available, making it adaptable for different types of blemishes.

Build Quality: The patches are noted for their thin edges that provide a comfortable fit on the skin. Reviewers appreciate that they stick well without causing irritation, although some have mentioned experiencing minor irritation if worn for extended periods.

Pros:

  • “The Master Patches are much thinner around the edge than the standard Cosrx patches, and they are also SIGNIFICANTLY more adhesive...” (source: Reddit).
  • "Great for spots that are coming to a head or freshly popped pimple. Not so effective for cystic or under the skin acne.” (source: Reddit).

Cons:

  • Many users report that the patches are less effective for cystic acne or closed comedones. A user shared, “These only work if you have whiteheads or open comedones.” (source: Reddit).
  • Some users have expressed disappointment regarding the price relative to the number of patches, stating that “for their price I only get to use 14/24 patches so not worth it.” (source: Reddit).

User Experiences: Overall, feedback is mixed but leans towards positive. Users report faster healing times and less redness with proper usage. However, the consensus is that while these patches are effective for certain types of acne, they may not be suitable for all skin types: “They work best if the pimple has come to a head.” (source: Reddit).

Mighty Patch by Hero Cosmetics

Full Review: The Mighty Patch by Hero Cosmetics is known for its ultra-thin design and effectiveness in treating whiteheads. Users appreciate its quick action, often noting significant improvements overnight. The patches are made with hydrocolloid technology, which helps in absorbing pus and other impurities.

Build Quality: Users frequently comment on the patch's thinness, making them less noticeable on the skin. However, there are mixed reviews regarding their adhesion, with some finding them less sticky compared to competitors.

Pros:

  • “Mighty patches work SO WELL!! like better than you would think - they're also better than the starface ones...” (source: Reddit).
  • “They are the only thing that stop me from picking. It seems heal quicker too.” (source: Reddit).

Cons:

  • Some users report that the patches do not stick well, with one stating, “The regular patches from hero cosmetics do not stick well.” (source: Reddit).
  • There is also feedback indicating that the patches can be pricey, particularly for those with frequent breakouts: “Can get expensive if you have frequently bad acne...” (source: Reddit).

User Experiences: The overall sentiment towards Mighty Patch is neutral, with many users reporting satisfaction with the results while also noting inconsistencies in effectiveness. Some users have found them to work best on already opened pimples, stating, “If it's already open, it'll drain them right up.” (source: Reddit).

Peace Out Acne Healing Dots

Full Review: Peace Out Acne Healing Dots are marketed as a premium acne treatment option designed to target pimples while minimizing inflammation. Many users appreciate the inclusion of salicylic acid, which is known for its acne-fighting properties.

Build Quality: Users note that the dots are easy to apply and stay on well overnight. However, there are reports of varying quality, with some users experiencing blistering reactions.

Pros:

  • “I put one of these on last night... It was virtually gone this morning.” (source: Reddit).
  • Users have praised the product for helping to prevent touching the face, which can exacerbate acne: “They don’t magically fix a pimple overnight but they do help. More importantly, they keep my fingers off my face...” (source: Reddit).

Cons:

  • A notable downside is the price, which many users feel is too high compared to other options: “I love how effective [Peace Out] are... However I don’t love the price.” (source: Reddit).
  • Some users have reported adverse reactions, including blistering: “I ended up with some serious blistering... from this product.” (source: Reddit).

User Experiences: User feedback is mixed. Some find the patches highly effective and a vital part of their skincare routine, while others feel they do not live up to the hype, citing that cheaper alternatives are just as effective. best pimple patches for acne

Key Considerations for Choosing Pimple Patches:

  1. Ingredients: Look for patches containing hydrocolloid, which helps absorb excess fluid and promotes healing. Some patches also include salicylic acid, tea tree oil, or niacinamide for added acne-fighting benefits.

  2. Size and Shape: Choose patches that come in various sizes to accommodate different types of blemishes, from small whiteheads to larger cystic acne.

  3. Transparency: Transparent patches can be more discreet, allowing you to wear them during the day without drawing attention.

  4. Adhesion: Ensure the patches stick well to the skin without peeling off easily, even during daily activities.

  5. Duration of Use: Some patches are designed for overnight use, while others can be worn throughout the day. Consider your needs based on when you plan to use them.

Recommendations:

  • COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch: Highly rated for its effectiveness, these patches come in different sizes and are made with hydrocolloid to absorb pus and oil.

  • Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch: Known for their strong adhesion and effectiveness, these patches also come in various sizes and are transparent, making them suitable for daytime wear.

  • Nip + Fab Salicylic Acid Spot Patches: These patches contain salicylic acid for added acne-fighting power and are effective for reducing inflammation.

Takeaway: For best results, apply the patch to clean, dry skin and leave it on for at least 6-8 hours or overnight. Always follow the instructions on the packaging for optimal use.
