TL;DR
Effectiveness of Pimple Patches
Pimple patches are generally effective in extracting pus from pimples and preventing picking. Many users have found that they help flatten pimples overnight or reduce the temptation to squeeze them [1:1],
[1:2]. Hydrocolloid bandages are often recommended as a cost-effective alternative to branded patches
[1:8],
[5:11].
Recommended Brands
Several brands were frequently mentioned across discussions. The Hero Mighty Patch is praised for its fast action and thin design, making it suitable for daytime use [1:1],
[4:2]. COSRX patches are favored for their strong adhesion and effectiveness, especially for sensitive skin
[2:3],
[5:10]. Rael's microneedle patches are noted for their ability to address deeper cystic acne
[5:5].
Budget-Friendly Options
For those seeking budget-friendly options, cutting hydrocolloid bandages into smaller pieces can be a practical solution [1:8],
[5:6]. Good Molecules and PanOxyl PM Overnight Spot Patches were also suggested as affordable alternatives
[3:1].
Considerations for Sensitive Skin
Individuals with sensitive skin should consider patches that adhere well without causing irritation. COSRX Master Patch Intensive was highlighted as a good option for sensitive skin due to its gentle adhesive [2:3]. Users also recommend ensuring the patches are applied correctly after moisturizing to maximize their effectiveness
[5:1],
[5:4].
In summary, while there are many pimple patch options available, the Hero Mighty Patch, COSRX Master Patch Intensive, and Rael Microneedle Patches stand out for their effectiveness and suitability for different types of acne. Consider your skin type and budget when choosing the best patch for your needs.
i’ve been thinking of ordering some off amazon since i’m breaking out and school is restarting soon. any recommendations, or any ones to avoid? thanks!
well depends on what working means for you, i use them for whenever i want to pop a pimple and IM SURE the pimple will pop without squeezing too hard or for too long ill pop it and then ill put the pimple patch on and the pimple is pretty much flat the next day OR i put them on on a pimple that isnt ready to pop and i just want to keep the temptation of squeezing it away.
yes, that’s pretty much what im looking for since i have a big problem with picking at my face especially with those pimples that are ready to pop haha
dont pick, honestly, my skin got so bad about a month ago bc of picking, only pop whenever theyre ready, like you can see the gunk ready to be popped, otherwise dont touch them, i still have two dark spots from like a month ago from squeezing so hard, but i was desperate. never again
any hydrocolloid bandages work, so most brands that handle superficial pimples are the same. for the deeper ones, the Zitsticka ones have to be the best. they have those micro darts that make the stubborn ones hurt so much less.
I have tried many different patches and found that they all work well. I just got some on Amazon cosrx brand and they work great and we’re not expensive
Pimple patches do bring out the gunk and help stop picking. My favorite ones are the mighty patch as I believe they work the fastest out of the ones I’ve tried. However they can be a bit pricey. I’ve ordered a few different ones off of Amazon and haven’t had any that I would avoid ordering again.
One thing to consider when buying them is the sizes they come with. Some seem like they have so many more than others making them more cost effective but in reality they have a bunch of really tiny ones that aren’t as helpful in my opinion.
thanks for the response :)! i will definitely look into mighty patches
You’re welcome. Hope they help you!
The peach slices brand is good too! Or honestly, buy a box of hydrocolloid bandages and cut them into smaller pieces yourself. No need to waste money on name brands when they do the same thing.
thanks for the advice, i didn’t know you could do that with hydrocolloid bandages, i will try it!
My face is super sensitive and one product can cause it break out all over. I need something to help get rid of these spots. I think acne patches will probably help through the night but I’ll try anything. My skin is combo and sensitive.
Hero Mighty Patch. :)
I second the Hero brand.
I really like the COSRX Master Patch Intensive. It's in the yellow and white box and runs $25 for 90ct. Adhesives can cause a reaction for me, but these are perfectly fine. A big plus is that these stay on nicely. Others that I have tried are thicker and lift very easily so I'd wake up with them on my pillow as opposed to my face.
The COSRX patches are my literal favorite
Honestly, I just buy the hydrocolloid bandages from Amazon, pack of 20 for $6
peach slices has GREAT patches!!
I'd like to try pimple patches for deep acne but there are so many brands out there that it's nearly impossible to tell what actually works and what is just marketing.
So which ones have you used and recommend? Something a bit more budget-friendly than Zitsticka please.
Thank you. I'll check them out.
Simply the best! And I’ve tried a lot. Super helpful especially during a purge. Way better than Mighty Patch but I still like the invisible Mighty Patches to wear during the day because they blend seamlessly with makeup.
Heave you tried the hero ones are these better than those?!
Yes I’ve tried both n panoxyl for the win
I like Rael's heating patches but I haven't tried these. I've been using the Cosrx pimple patches and I like them a lot. They stick well and are conspicuous enough to wear during Zoom calls.
I love rael. The microneedle ones are best for before they pop, regular ones after they pop. I can kill an oncoming cyst with a few days of the microneedle ones if i use them right when i start to feel the painful spot. I can drain a popped pimple within 1-4 patches depending on the size of the pimple and dramatically reduce redness using the regular ones
Edited for more detail
Which ones have the microneedles?
Rael Miracle Microcrystal Spot Cover - Hydrocolloid, Acne Pimple Spot Patches with Tea Tree Oil, Early Stage (9 Count) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07P86HXG5/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_44RHCW3K3Y2ZF2PW2DN7
Hiya, I've been using these but I have to say I'm underwhelmed, they really don't seem to do much, even on very "ripe" whiteheads. I've been applying them at night after my skincare routine and leaving them overnight. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or if there are better ones out there - any recommendations?
I like the Rael ones but CosRx are my favourite!
The more moist the pimple, the better it sucks up the pus for me. I make sure my face is very well-moisturized, I wait for it to dry down a bit, then apply the patches. Also works well post-shower.
Are you sure they’re stuck on well? If they’re not, they won’t do a great job. Also know that you sometimes need to use them for a few days for them to do the whole job!
I stick them on as well as I can but maybe I'll wait till longer after my skincare as I do tend to put them on straight after. Also, it appears I've been expecting far too much - I imagined I'd stick one on and in the morning the spot would be gone 🤣
I use straight up hydrocolloid bandages at night or if I'm just at home (cut to size). I use Hero invisible patches when i go out and they are fantastic!
I feel like I have to beg people to do this! Like for ten dollars you get a pack of ten 4”x4” patches that I cut to size. So easy and cheap and j get to make my own shape/size.
Plus I feel like they work better!
Cosrx are pretty good !
Out of all the brands I’ve tried I’d have to agree. CosRx are superior.
I’m on a hunt to try and find some good ones. I’ve tried a couple brands but aren’t quite satisfied with them. My favourites so far have been the spot medic patches. Please give me your recommendations and I’ll buy them all over time to try considering I’m going through at least a pack weekly.
Hero Mighty invisible! ( blue packet )
These are my go-to now as well! I prefer the ones with tapered edges because the standard ones felt like they would lift off if I tried to apply my skincare over the top.
CosRX do a really similar one in an oval shape but Hero Mighty Patch wins out slightly more for me because they're easier to find.
I just take a cotton tip after I’ve done my skincare with some water on one side and dry on the other and wipe off the skincare where I want to put the patch.
I’ll definitely try these ones thanks guys
I’ve tried a few, the Garnier ones are virtually invisible and relatively effective, the Skin Control ones are very effective but a bit conspicuous for daytime wear, COSRX are good but I think only available online so annoying when you want them immediately, the Formula 10.0.6 are surprisingly good, also thin and almost invisible and you get heaps in the pack so very good value you can get them at Kmart, I’ve also tried the Bandaid hydrocolloid plasters and cut them down into smaller sized patches, no active ingredients in those but they’re still surprisingly good and they heal the skin very quickly
I really like the Some by Mi ones. They’re thinner on the outer edges so they almost disappear, decently adhesive too.
Same. Love the adhesion of their patches as they can last overnight
Another vote for these. I used to use the cosrx ones but found they either didn’t seal properly so one side was always a bit flappy or they were obvious 😭
I like the mecca brand ones purely for the fact that they're almost invisible so great for daytime wear
Yeah I second Mecca ones, they are basically invisible and don’t leave the weird sticky ring like some others! Do they actually ‘do’ anything to help heal the spot aside from making it impossible to pick it… debatable!
I’ve been really loving the tbh. ones from Priceline - stays stuck on through the night, draws out all the gunk and flattens out swelling
They’re so good! They are also very sticky, which I like. They don’t slide off or move around my face.
Fun fact: there’s no evidence the dart ones actually work any better than just using salicylic acid topically, despite the price tag
I trust this subreddits opinions and I would love to know what brand you all think has the best pimple patches?
It doesn’t have to be from Sephora! I just need patches that actually work 😅
Any and all recommendations are welcome!!
The Hero pimple patches are my favorite! They don’t sell them at Sephora. I buy them from Ulta.
Agree, the Hero ones are my HG patches. They’re great for spots, and I also use them on my cuticles/fingertips where I rip out hangnails and fuck up the skin.
this is the most amazing idea I have ever hear about the hangnail healing. I am terrible about this. Thank you!!!!
This is my vote as well! I switch between Hero & COSRX (the yellow box) for larger ones.
They do a pretty good job of flattening the pimple.
They are not all the same! Also, peace out has other active ingredients. Which some people might like, but it can also cause further irritation around the pimple.
just to add: reminder that pimple patches are covered by HSA/FSA :)
They're not all the same 😩 Personally I would buy the Walgreens generic, and they never really stuck and were more noticeable. After I bought the Panoxyl, I ended up using less of them since they wouldn't fall off as easily. Although they all achieve the same thing, some are definitely better than others in other factors.
Yeah, I’ve tried a couple of other brands but the only ones that completely seal all the way around the patch and stay on (even during a shower) are the Peace Out for me. I hate that they are so expensive but I was doing the same as you and having to use 2 or 3 for each 1 of Peace Out. I think it could possibly be due to the fact that I have an oily face, and whatever adhesive Peace Out uses just sticks better to my face. Definitely the same active ingredient in all the other ones I tried though! I wish the cheaper ones worked better for me. I’ll keep trying!
I really love these Hanhoo Blemish Patches. They’re like $2.56 from Walmart and includes two sizes. Works just as well as Mighty Patch.
Love these!! Took me forever to try the hero patches when these work just as well for much cheaper. I will say I feel like the Hero ones are thinner, which I like, but these are great
I hesitate to even comment because I feel like these are the best kept secret in terms of products for acne. Incredible value for the price point. I like the soothing ones too!
ETA not gatekeeping hesitation, but a desire to keep them from jacking up the price. Its insane how cheap they are
Hey you should check out the regular hydrocolloid bandages at CVS they usually sell for blisters. They’re cheap as hell and work better than some of the pimple specific brands
After a lifetime of face-picking I'm absolutely ready to try out the patches. But I have sensitive skin and besides there's like a thousand different brands and patches... With hyaluronic acid, teatree oil, niacinamide, salicylic acid... You name it. I'm a bit lost and looking for some advice. My routine is very simple (micelar water, rosehip oil and sunscreen) Thank you!
I love the Skyn Iceland ones or the CosRx, both are great for speeding up the healing process and stopping you picking spots.
Thank you!! I'm a little scared the adhesive will be harsh on my skin. Have you had any problems regarding this?
Nope, not at all. My skin is pretty hardy though, normal/ mildly combination with slightly oilier t-zone and dryer cheeks and I can use actives with no issues.
My favorite are the CosRx ones. They’re pretty inexpensive on amazon and I like that the pack has a few different sizes for smaller or larger blemishes. They blend in to the skin nicely, and I find they work well at pulling out the sebum and clearing up blemishes much quicker.
I think I'll try those. Thanks!
I like the Mighty Patch Invisible. They are completely flat but slightly larger than the COSRX Clear Fit Master Patch. I don't like any of them that don't have the tapered edge.
I agree with the CosRx recommendations. They’re also pretty cheap on Amazon for a 4 pack!
I love the Olive Young patches! They look very subtle and stick well. Patchology also has some great ones if you like thicker patches or salicylic acid patches
I'm looking for recommendations. Any thoughts?
