TL;DR
Poshmark
Poshmark is frequently recommended for selling used clothes, particularly branded items. Users appreciate its streamlined process and automatic priority shipping, which includes free USPS shipping supplies [5:1]. However, Poshmark charges a high fee of 20%
[5:1], and some sellers feel their items aren't "chic" enough for the platform
[5:3].
Depop
Depop is another popular choice, especially for younger audiences and vintage clothing. It’s praised for its ease of use in dealing with customers and payouts [3:1]. While it might not have as broad an audience as eBay, it's still considered a viable option for many sellers
[3:2].
Mercari
Mercari is often mentioned alongside Poshmark and Depop as a good platform for selling used clothes [4:1]. The choice between these platforms can depend on the brands you're selling
[3:4]. Some users find Mercari straightforward, but others are exploring additional options for better sales
[5].
eBay
eBay remains a strong contender due to its large audience reach. Sellers note that while eBay requires a learning curve for shipping and policies, it often results in the most sales [5:1]. Despite occasional slow months, eBay is still a top choice for many sellers
[5:5].
Vinted
Vinted is recommended for selling second-hand clothes, though it may not be as focused on luxury brands [1:1]. It's a straightforward platform for those looking to sell everyday items without the complexities of other marketplaces.
Other Options
Some users suggest using Facebook Marketplace, Instagram, and Carousell for selling clothes locally or within specific communities [2:1]
[2:3]. ThredUp is mentioned for those who prefer not to handle individual sales, although it currently faces processing delays
[4:4]. Additionally, niche subreddits like r/wardrobepurge offer community-based selling opportunities
[4:3].
When choosing a platform, consider factors such as fees, audience demographics, ease of use, and the type of clothing you’re selling. Cross-listing on multiple platforms can maximize visibility and sales potential.
I've got a great deal of clothing that I'd like to sell online. But I'm a bit behind with everything that concerns the internet and I don't know which platforms to use. Is Vestiaire Collective a good idea? Are there even better platforms?
Thank you so much!
Same
Did you find any?
Not particularly luxury brands, but Vinted is always good for selling secondhand online!
Hi! Hope it's ok to post this question here.
My sister and I just cleaned out our closets and have a lot (50-60 pcs) of clothes we don't wear anymore. Either because they're office clothes (we don't go to the office anymore), too small, not our current style, haven't reached for them in a year or two.
Since most of them are branded, we'd like to try selling them. For those who have sold a chunk of clothes before, where would you recommend we sell them? Or where have you had the best experience?
Carousell

Carousell, FB Marketplace, IG
Other than eBay or Bonanza. Can you recommend good marketplaces to sell pre owned items?
Thank you!
Poshmark, depop, facebook, mercari, and ebay are really the only platforms you need to sell on for anything.
Bonanza? Please don't waste your time. Postmark, Mercari and Depop are options, but you'll never get as many eyes on your items as eBay. If you can keep up on updating your inventory, crosslisting on all platforms is the way to go.
Mercari but that depends on the brands your selling
Poshmark
Depop is my go to. They make it easy to deal with customers, payouts are easy, and posting is easy.
I have a lot of perfectly good clothing that I'm trying to get rid of. Ideally I'd like to sell them, and I wasn't sure what a good place would be. I'm familiar with Depop and used it some years ago as a buyer but am not sure if it's a good place to get rid of all my stuff. Is there another place that's more worthwhile?
Thanks!
I had luck with poshmark I few years back, haven’t kept up with it, but it’s worth checking out
r/wardrobepurge I check it all the time in hopes that people have posted. Haha.
I just discovered that r/ today! I really hopes it gains more traction like the makeup/skincare exchange subs
I've used ThredUp in the past because I'm too lazy to deal with the individual sales, but there is a massive backlog in them processing bags lately.
Mercari or Poshmark.
I used to sell on the side a few years back on Mercari, poshmark, depop, and vinted. I’m a vintage clothing collector (hoarder, let’s be real) and have been dipping my toes back in the selling waters. I made a Mercari page earlier in the week and it’s ok so far but I think I’m ready to explore more.
So this poses my question: What is your current favorite selling platform?
What do you think are the pros and cons of it compared to other platforms?
Thanks in advance!
I'm looking to find buyers for women wear designer wear how to find them ?
I just started this year and I sell on eBay, Poshmark, Mercari and Depop. Poshmark is probably my favorite to sell on because it just seems so streamlined and they automatically offer priority shipping which means free shipping supplies from USPS. Only negative is they have a high fee (20%). But the one I get the most sales on is eBay. eBay has been a little bit of a learning curve compared to the other apps between how they do shipping, setting up my policies for returns/shipping and buyers trying to run scams but it’s not hard to learn, just can take time. Mercari and Depop I’ve done ok but they’re definitely the lower of the sales. I do find the prices are lower over there so buyers expect prices to be lower and their offers reflect that. Mercari easiness is similar to Poshmark. Depop has quirks I’m not super fond of. Like if seller accepts buyers offer, it doesn’t mean it’s sold. The buyer has to come back and pay. Now I know eBay can have this issue too, but in my experience I’ve had maybe 1 non payment on an eBay offer in 2 months where Depop it’s been probably 8-10.
My rating for top sales is eBay, Poshmark, Mercari and Depop. My ratings for ease of use for seller is Poshmark, Mercari, eBay, Depop. Again just my opinion and I’m still pretty new so take it for what it’s worth.
eBay’s been dogwater this month. Outside of that I have nothing to tell you.
Been using Vinted for a while and while some items tend to have a lot of interest and get bought after some time I've noticed that it's only branded items that do well on the app which is fair. But I've got loads of unbranded items still in pretty good condition that could go for more.
What other apps /websites should I try?
Plato’s closet in your area? They buy clothing.
you can try out poshmark, mercari, and depop
mercari!
Lots of posts about this on r/flipping. You can probably find reviews of the various sites by searching there.
I've only ever sold on thredup because I don't want to mess with creating listings and shipping everything myself. The payout isn't great after they take their cut (in my experience ~$40 for a trash bag full of clothes, but mine all came from a thrift store to begin with so it feels like easy money), but it's nice to just throw all the clothes in one bag, have the post office pick it up, and let thredup do all the work from there. The brands they accept vary depending on how flooded they are with certain things at a given point in time.
I'm attempting to channel my inner Marie Kondo....trying, failing, but trying. I am cleaning out my closet and one of my big hangups as a "grew up super poor" kid is knowing I spent money on the clothes I have and wanting to get my money's worth.
Where are good places to sell clothes (midwestern US, if relevant)? Plato's Closet has generally been my go-to but they are pretty picky, I have done Ebay for other things but it has screwed me over with the high fees so it hardly seems worth it. I don't like the lack of privacy with Facebook (my friends don't need to know the extent of my My Chemical Romance t shirt collection...)
I don't mind shipping stuff, just want it worth my while! Any ideas?
I think there's an app or website called LetGo that you could sell clothes on
Along with what everyone else has said so far, there's also Depop and Mercari.
Poshmark, thredup
I would highly recommend depop, I find that Its easy to find buyers and I have sold most of my old cloths there. Also there is a seller/buyer rating system so you know that the people you are selling your things to are reliable. On top of that they only charge 10% fee.
I sell a lot on Facebook Marketplace and I used to sell a lot of Craigslist but it seems like stuff doesn’t get the traction that it used to. And it seems like I get a lot of spam posts.
I’m trying to sell off a lot of stuff to make some extra money. I’m be used eBay before but I feel like I get a lot of spam and people trying to haggle too much without any results.
I’ve posted a couple things on Offer Up that went no where. Anyone have any luck on other sites or is there a trick to getting your items sold quickly without boosting a post?
What kinds of goods? I still like Poshmark for clothing.
Is there anyplace that explains Poshmark? I don’t understand all the business about parties and joining closets..🤦🏻♀️
I use Mercari to sell clothes and kid stuff. Decently easy to use the app
Depop is really popular among the young-ins, so if it can be put on there it fits. Poshmark has like everythinggg too.
I've used Mercari
If shipping and not meeting locally I recommend Mercari. You'll need to get a scale to weigh your packages and sticky paper to print labels... Assuming you already have a printer.
I'm out of the game now but when I was laid off and on unemployment at the beginning of the pandemic I made like $2K by flipping stuff.
For example, I saw a DVD for $3 at Goodwill, scanned the barcode with the eBay app, and saw sold listings for $30 on eBay.
Listed it on Mercari and after packaging, shipping, and fees I netted around $20 profit.
You might be able to save some money on shipping by using Pirateship.com instead of using the Mercari rates.
Also, ALWAYS list the item at a higher price than what you actually want. People always haggle on Mercari. It's a feature built into the app.
If you get no bites after a few days to a week then delete your listing and re-list the item. That way when people search for that particular item yours will be at the top of the list.
Offer up is trash that’s all I know.
It’s just people flipping stuff.
That might depend on where you live because offer up is pretty good where I am
I have a BUNCH of lightly used clothes and other assortments of items that I’d like to sell to make some much needed cash. My question is, which selling website (i.e eBay, Facebook, Etsy, Mercari) would be the best for a first time seller? And also any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks! (:
list the same item on multiple sites so you increase your odds of getting a sale. Different places have different fees for selling. FB is free, poshmark wants a %20 cut and depop wants a 10% cut. Just take good quality photos and write a descriptive blurb that also paints the item in good light e.g. "pre-loved" not "used and old"
I love Poshmark and Mecari. Ebay can be good also. Depop depending on your age.
I have a lot of woman’s clothes and shoes, if that makes a difference.
Check those sites to research how your stuff prices out. Depop is super cool and the hot thing for youth. Thredup is another good one too. Fun research but you might have to restrain yourself from wanting to buy more stuff.
Poshmark is good for women's clothing. I heard depop is good, but it's super pc unfriendly from my experience.
Vinted, no selling fees so you keep 100% of the money you earn. Mercari is good too, but they take 10%. I cross post on both of them and have had tons of success
I strongly suggest against Poshmark. It’s dead there, very hard to make money after the 20% cut and it takes a long time to get paid
Vinted is great for mall brands and no seller fee
Mercari is the easiest to use with the biggest traffic, they take like 12% but that’s easy to recoup and you know what you make right away
Depop is meh yeah cool stuff is there but most customers are teens who don’t really spend. And buying is annoying too because of the teens. And “depop math” (you’ll see, get ready to scream) they have almost non existent customer service and endless lowball offers that have zero merit
Facebook marketplace is a good place to get rid of stuff with a very easy 5% fee. Kinda yard Sale ish. But easy
Ebay is good but don’t start there
Threadup is a scam, I honestly believe this. You send them a bag of clothes, they take what they want, list it as they please and you get your commission way down the line. Many users report higher end items “falling off the truck” and you have to pay to get back the items they don’t want or they “donate” them. I can’t imagine who shops there as it’s both overpriced and presented poorly. Oh and expect a months long waitlist for your bag to be processed
Curtsy is a dead ghost town
It's taken a few months more than expected, but so far, ThredUp has listed everything I've sent in. I don't have a lot of higher end items, but for some of the cheapest things I've sent in, I've gotten higher commissions ($3 or more) than I expected. It was easier for me as I really wasn't getting much traction on Mercari at all.
I’m actually shocked and happy for uou. It’s always good to have some success stories.
Depop works extremely well for what you're selling. I like Mercari more than eBay if you want to go with a bidding format. But I haven't ever sold or bought clothes on Mercari, so I'm not sure if they're better for that or not. I've sold stuff on both though.
From pre Covid to now I’ve been about a million different sizes and my style has also changed quite significantly. I used to be an avid eBay seller in my early 20s, but is that still the best place to sell? I have a lot of clothes and planning to sell in bulk loads like 5 dresses for 25 bucks etc. Am I best to use eBay, depop or another alternative?
I know second hand clothes are less popular now that fast fashion is so cheap and accessible, but since I’ve been made redundant I would love to make even a small amount of money for my clothes. I’ll only be selling things in great condition. All advice appreciated!
Definitely had great success on Depop. But bulk lots are less common and less successful there. People want very specific things, in my opinion. It's very easy to use and you can get decent prices. It's the opposite to ebay in that you set a price and they can make a (lower) offer. I find it better than market place because there's nonexpectation of picking up or interacting in real life. You can do it all by post. It will let you do automatic combined shipping on multiple items.
Great that sounds good! I would have thought lots would be more attractive as a bargain, especially all from the same brand/same style. But I appreciate the advice. Do you know what percentage depop take as commission?
Ooh, not sure of the percentage off the top of my head. Close to 10, I think? Mine is linked to PayPal, who take another cut. So it does eat into your profits.
But for a single dress, depending on the brand and condition, I would expect to list it around 25 bucks. Maybe end up selling for 15 to 20. I've sold some gorman and Cue stuff for around 35 to 40. Never sold anything for less than 10.
I buy on eBay a lot but never buy in lots. Firstly if I want to buy a shirt, I don’t want to have to also buy two Tshirts and a pair of shorts. Second, I never like all of the items in a bulk lot so to avoid waste I will give up the opportunity to buy the one thing in the bunch that I really do like. Third, it always looks to me as though the bulk lots are just things that the seller can’t get rid of or that there’s one good item and four rubbish things that will end up in landfill.
eBay has an offer feature. You just have to activate it when listing if you want to use it. If using a phone, you'll likely need to expand the pricing options to find it. You can also send offers to watchers.
*To add, if you do use your phone to list, and you DON'T want offers enabled, be sure to double check the tab anyway because it's usually already on. This doesn't seem to be an issue when using a computer.
I've just been taking my clothes, shoes, and accessories into second-hand stores to sell. They don't take everything, and I'm not getting heaps, but it saves me the time and frustration of selling items individually on ebay or FB, or getting the huff and just packing it all off to Vinnies.
Second this, I have Goodbyes near me and while I didn't get much in comparison to selling everything individually myself it was a million times less stress and effort.
This is a good idea too. I just sold one item recently and the girl was so extremely painful to deal with it’s almost turned me off continuing to sell. I’ve never gone into a second hand shop to sell before but there’s a first for everything!
I use “The Closet”. It’s an online thrift store where you send in your bags and the list it all and sell on consignment. I just keep the bags around the house and send them off when they’re full. Pretty handy and my last bag got me $350 for items I would have donated anyway.
They sound interesting. Did you find that they listed your pieces for a fair price and did all of it sell? I’m worried that for clothing listed between $55-$99 you only get 35% which is peanuts. The payout goes up after $100-$199 at 55% which still isn’t great but it does sound convenient.
if you have a number of items from the same brand, id join a buy swap sell facebook group for that brand & see how you go selling on there.
From experience FB Marketplace would probably be the place for just clearing my wardrobe of nondescript generic stuff. Depop for nicer things where I can list specifics and have original tags. If you have any really cool vintage pieces then also try Etsy.
best platforms to sell used clothes
Key Considerations for Selling Used Clothes:
Target Audience: Choose a platform that aligns with your target demographic. For example, Poshmark is popular among younger audiences, while eBay has a broader reach.
Fees and Commissions: Be aware of the selling fees associated with each platform. Some platforms take a percentage of the sale, while others may charge listing fees.
Ease of Use: Look for platforms that are user-friendly and have a straightforward listing process. A good app or website can make a significant difference in your selling experience.
Shipping Options: Consider platforms that offer convenient shipping solutions, such as prepaid shipping labels, to simplify the process.
Community and Engagement: Some platforms, like Depop and Poshmark, have strong community aspects that can help you promote your items through social sharing and networking.
Top Platforms to Consider:
Poshmark: Great for trendy and brand-name clothing. It has a social aspect that encourages sharing and networking.
Depop: Popular among younger users, especially for vintage and unique items. It has a strong community vibe and is visually driven.
eBay: Offers a vast audience and allows for auction-style listings or fixed prices. Good for a wide range of clothing types.
ThredUp: A consignment model where you send in your clothes, and they handle the selling. It's hassle-free but may offer lower payouts.
Facebook Marketplace: Local selling option that allows you to avoid shipping. Great for quick sales but requires more effort in meeting buyers.
Recommendation: If you're looking for a quick and easy way to sell trendy items, Poshmark is a solid choice due to its community and ease of use. For vintage or unique pieces, Depop is ideal. If you want to reach a broader audience and have more control over pricing, eBay is worth considering.
