TL;DR
Finding a Raid Group
One of the most significant challenges players face is finding a consistent raid group. Many players recommend using Discord for LFG (Looking For Group) as it tends to provide better results than the in-game fireteam finder [1:1]
[2:11]. Discord allows for more communication and coordination, which is crucial for successful raids. Additionally, being kind and patient with fellow raiders can help foster a positive environment and encourage more people to participate in raids
[2].
Optimal Loadouts
For optimal loadouts, many players suggest using Izanagi's Burden with its catalyst, combined with Apex Predator and Gjallarhorn for DPS [4:3]. Machine guns like Commemoration and Hammerhead are recommended for ad clearing due to their effectiveness
[4:2]. While hand cannons are strong currently, the meta can change with new expansions, so staying updated on weapon balance changes is essential
[4:6].
Teaching and Learning Mechanics
Being willing to teach or learn raid mechanics is vital for success. Hosting raids and ensuring all members have microphones can significantly improve communication and efficiency [2:2]. It's important to be patient with players who are learning and to avoid toxic behavior that can discourage participation
[2:8]. Encouraging a supportive atmosphere can lead to more enjoyable and successful raid experiences.
Preparation for Raids
Preparing for raids involves not only gearing up but also understanding the mechanics and strategies involved. Watching videos or reading guides can help familiarize players with what to expect [2:2]. As the raid drops shortly after the expansion, having a prepared loadout and understanding of potential scenarios will be beneficial
[4:4].
Considerations Beyond the Discussions
While these discussions provide valuable insights, it is also important to stay updated on any new developments or changes introduced by Bungie. This includes keeping an eye on patch notes, updates, and community feedback to adapt strategies accordingly. Engaging with the community through forums and social media can also offer additional tips and tricks from experienced players.

The day has come, Guardians. Happy The Final Shape launch day! Much is happening today, so we wanted to help by putting everything you might need to know in one place. Let's start with The Final Shape launch trailer, shall we?
Video Link ##Confronting Oblivion
In our latest ViDocs, we shared why The Final Shape is so special. We talked about the emotional journey, the Witness's plans, the beloved characters you've known for almost ten years, the new powers, the dangers, the places you'll find... You know what? It's better if you just watch them yourself.
Video LinkVideo Link ##Through The Pale Heart
Crow was first. Now, it's our turn to step inside the Traveler and explore : The Pale Heart. It's strange, yet familiar. Welcoming, but unsettling. You'll first experience this new destination in a more linear way while playing through the campaign, but afterward, it will continue unfolding with new locations, challenges, and activities. And with Pathfinder—our new progression system for The Pale Heart destination and Ritual activities—you'll earn tons of rewards while doing so.
Video Link ##A Campaign for Legends
In The Final Shape campaign, you, the Vanguard, and your allies will pursue the Witness to thwart its plans. It won't be easy, especially if you play it in Legendary Mode. You'll have to test your mettle on every fight, but your efforts will earn you upgraded rewards, like a set of armor with a high enough Power Level for raid content.
##Fear the Dread
The Dread is a new species born as a result of the Witness's incursion inside of the Traveler. They are a menace, and you'll need new strategies to defeat them.
Video LinkVideo LinkVideo LinkVideo Link ##Transcend Light and Darkness
During their adventures inside The Pale Heart, players will earn three new Light-based Supers, one for each Guardian class and each of them accompanied by new Aspects.

But that's not all. The blending of Light and Darkness inside of the Traveler will allow Guardians to go beyond their known limits and combine both powers for the first time with the Prismatic subclass. Players will be able to combine select features of Light and Darkness subclasses, while also having some new and powerful Fragments at their disposal, resulting in incredibly powerful builds.
With Prismatic, using Light and Darkness will also charge a new power called Transcendence, which will overflow Guardians with power, allowing them to create a unique grenade. Born from Light and Darkness, these grenades have increased damage output and regenerate at a faster pace.
The cherry on top for Prismatic is the addition of new Exotic class items. These are exclusive to the Prismatic subclass, and you earn them through a unique activity in The Final Shape. Each of these Exotic class items has a mix of two Exotic armor perks, allowing for combos that were not possible before. Check out the list of Exotic perk combinations here.

Speaking of Exotics, we have a formidable lineup of new Exotic weapons that will allow you to defeat your foes in unique ways. Still Hunt shoots like a Marksman Hunter, Microcosm shoots wide beams of powerful Light, Khvostov is an old friend made anew and... well, you’ll discover what the rest do on your adventure.

Six new Exotic pieces of armor will also be available in The Final Shape, two for each class. Three of these pieces have their own trailers already, check them out below.

Of course, new Legendary gear is also needed in this fight, and we have plenty. For starters, the new destination weapons are all craftable, and some are part of new archetypes, like the new Auto Rifle that heals your allies when you shoot at them.
Here's the whole list:
And let's not forget one very important upgrade coming to many weapons, including both new weapons and those already in your vault: perk enhancing. A broad selection of Legendary weapons can now have their perks enhanced.
##An Ever-Evolving Sandbox
Our Sandbox team has been busy making changes to weapons, armor, and abilities. We have three different articles covering the main changes coming with The Final Shape. Be prepared to buildcraft and be your strongest self by reading these:
Additionaly, we have a preview of the perks that the new Seasonal Artifact brings to the table. It’s another crucial aspect of buildcrafting in Destiny 2.
##Storm the New Raid: Salvation's Edge
In The Final Shape, Guardians will confront the Witness in the new Salvation's Edge raid launching on June 7. Our World First race will be taking place during the first 48 hours of the raid, when Contest Mode will also be active. Whether you participate in the raid with your fireteam or follow the race on Twitch Rivals, you won’t want to miss this.
Please note that we encourage all players to complete The Final Shape campaign and the Wild Card Exotic quest prior to the launch of Salvation’s Edge to have the best story experience.
##Destiny 2 x Dungeons & Dragons Video Link
We’re rolling a 20 on excitement for our newave partnership with Wizards of the Coast, bringing Dungeons & Dragons to Destiny 2 in The Final Shape. Faerûn-inspired sets will be available at the Eververse store on June 4, as well as more gear and accessories inspired by this iconic role-playing franchise.
In addition, the Bungie Store will also be offering an Eye Tyrant Beholder Ghost shell vinyl figure, inspired by the fearsome multi-eyed D&D monster.
##The Year of Episodes Begins on June 11
The first Episode, Echoes, will start a new era for Destiny 2 on June 11, exactly one week after The Final Shape launches. We'll share more information about Echoes and Episodes after The Final Shape launch.
##Many Quality-of-Life Changes
The Final Shape also brings a lot of important changes to many Destiny 2 systems, from how Rahool will decrypt Exotic engrams to how shaders are shown in the customization menu. Below you can find a list of these changes:
##Read the Update 8.0.0.1 Patch Notes
For the remaining information about what has been added and what is changing with The Final Shape, please read the patch notes for Update 8.0.0.1.
As we said at the beginning, today is the day. You can finally play The Final Shape, face the Witness and its forces, and live an adventure ten years in the making.
Have fun, everyone!

hot tip/PSA, TLDR: run 2 Rocket sidearms and it seems you get Heavy ammo the same as pre-nerf double spesh. Makes Legend a breeze.
Weapon spoilers (I guess), You get a Strand Rocket sidearm early on, and if you run it with Indebted Kindness (this was heavily speculated and it looks like it DOES work), you effectively have 2 'primaries' since the rocket sidearms count as primaries for Heavy ammo generation, so you get tons of Heavy ammo accordingly.
I’d play more if it were easier to find a raid group
I would recommend using the looking for sherpa chat in the destiny 2 lfg discord!
I’ll try that. I have discord.
I used to have a regular group that I played with but everyone spread out to other games
Is the lfg system not working for you? What do you think it needs if so?
It needs me to have more time lol. It’s not the system, it’s me.
After careful consideration of all the factors surrounding the reddit blackout, including weighing the costs and benefits to the community of a continued dark period, the mod team has elected to resume normal operations of r/LowSodiumDestiny. If you wish to get more involved in further protest of reddit's API policy change, more information can be found on r/ModCoord and r/Save3rdPartyApps.
As the situation continues to develop, we are prepared to explore additional actions in protest of this short-sighted, greedy, IPO-focused boondoggle from reddit's executive team. This message will live at the top of every newly submitted topic until a satisfactory resolution is reached.

It’s no secret that the active raiding population week over week has significantly decreased post Final Shape. It can get especially quiet on LFG channels in between major expansions and raid releases/reprisals like now. There can be just one or two team on the Discord LFG channels per night running featured raids. Please be kind to your fellow raiders. We want to encourage more people to do these activities, not drive them away.
If you notice someone causing wipes because they aren’t nailing a mechanic, instead of singling them out and being rude, accusing them of not knowing what they’re doing, talk to them and ask what they need help on. If you really can’t be bothered to be kind, and expect perfection in a run, then put that in your LFG posts and check raid reports. The onus is on you to craft that type of fireteam. Don’t host causal runs assuming everyone is on the same page, then pull up raid reports to put players down for not having X amount of clears.
I am a seasoned raider, been raiding since D1 VOG release and I still slip up from time to time, and I have experienced negative talk increasingly recently by other players. I want to encourage the community to be more welcoming and patient, or else we’ll see less and less people actively running raids.
^ This guy LFG raids. For real, I have hundreds of LFG raid clears and can still count the number of toxic assholes on one hand. Teams that fall apart because nobody wants to do mechanics, or because someone keeps pretending to know what to do and keeps fucking things up,.. those happen constantly. If you use the ingame fireteam finder, you can guarantee that half the people joining the lobby didn't even read the description and are just there for a carry. If the lobby owner isn't picky, you're going to have a bad time. Or rather, you're going to be back in FF 15min later when the team falls apart.
I host the raids in LFG, so I can weed out the trash before we get to 2+ hours in.
I have had only 5 raids get to that length from LFG, and that's just cuz I was teaching. If you have watched a video, or are willing to learn and listen, you can stay.
You need to have a mic though to raid. That's mainly why I host. I've joined up on people who have a full fireteam besides myself without mics and they go nowhere.
The in game fireteam finder has been an objective disaster for raids. This was very predictable. It’s a fine system to have for every other activity but raids should be gatekept to a certain extent.
Switching to discord for lfg has made my time so much better. Also knowing when a group is not gonna make it and leaving is important, saves hours of time.
I used to stick it out with a group, especially in d1 and I would waste 2 hrs on one encounter. Some groups are truly hopeless.
I stopped playing shortly after finishing the final shape campaign and I came back at the beginning of Heresy. I’ve been catching up on getting the raid weapons I need and during my Crota adventures I can’t tell you how many people were absolutely furious that I didn’t know how to completely skip the opening encounter with Strand.
I don’t want to have to check rr for every person but when I make posts requesting experienced players, it’s people who want to learn or have no clue. Look, I have no problem teaching and helping you through a raid. But this post asked for experienced players becuase I need it done asap.
It’s worse when I let them stay and even ask in game chat, AND on mic asking if they know what to do, explaining encounters, but they’re radio silent. No response to chat or mic, and constantly repeating the same mistakes. Esp on a post where it asks for experienced players. Atp you’re begging for the boot.
This is really the biggest thing I've noticed since fireteam finder came out, it's so difficult to do a quick run nowadays. Like sometimes you just want to hop on and do some raid in 30 minutes to an hour, But it feels like recently, especially as the population gets lower that every single run Is like a 2 or 3-hour teaching slog. Nobody knows anything and nobody's volunteering either. It's rough
Nope we actually did all the challenges with the dude and taught him how to do the raid, the raid isn’t that hard on master the only pain was just challenges like we reset more than a few times because someone got hit by a hobgoblin etc (wasn’t always the new guy). The only real pain in the ass was teaching the guy oracles and doing its challenge of everyone can only shoot one, I’m pretty sure we spent like 25 minutes on that. VoG doesn’t really need everyone to know what you’re doing it just came up as we needed to make sure everyone was doing the challenge.
Most of what ive experienced people being toxic jerks is before you even load into the raid theyll boot you from the lobby for not running perfect meta loadouts. That is what prevents a lot of newer skilled players from even being able to access the raids. People need to be more willing to teach and not just want experienced players
I completely agree, I wish people would stop posting stuff like this. I hear comments from both new and longtime players that will say they don't dare to raid because of all the toxic players in every lfg, but how would they know because they've never raided themselves. They read this shit right here.
Don't get me wrong, it's not like I've NEVER encountered assholes. There's been a couple of occasions. But 99% have been good people. And I specifically only join mic runs because I vastly prefer the vibe.
The absolute biggest problem with lfg is people not reading tags, both new players and experienced. Discord is way better than FF for people reading the post, but there's still the odd person who either doesn't read or thinks they're an exception because they're special or something. And FF is a joke. Some nights it's like 50% of the team that hasn't read the tags.
I hate kicking people but if they'd read the tags we wouldn't have to.
Can confirm am Anxiety guy lol. Granted I have run raids before and I do enjoy them but you always have to find that group and I always run into people cursing, not knowing wtd, or straight up leaving and I have to fill in slots and sometimes I just become the sherpa lol
Just seems more of a hassle so I just stick to doing dungeons and everything else for the most part.
Oh dude i have more patience than i ever thought i could have, so we put an lfg out for 4 people on a master VoG run for the title and god may they have mercy on 3 of those randoms because 1 of them didn’t even know how to do the normal raid. im not even gonna lie thats the best god damn team I could’ve asked for because none of those guys complained and stayed with us the whole run and we did get the title. Took like 2 hours which tbh isn’t that bad.
Wish more of my lfg teams were like that a lot of the time I somehow end up getting dragged by speed runners going holy shit what’s even going it’s boss damage already? I gotta start playing at normal times late night is wild.
As a Caves of Qud fun and mutant enjoyer i must know
If you enjoyed chimera mutant in Qud, you'll enjoy chaos form.
Don't take my word for it, I'm just learning. But I'm using a chaos form warmage following opatos. I should use magic more but I prefer to play warrior style....higher lvl magic mobs kill me often. But having many weapons means I hit very hard.
Yea, it's definately a late game race though.
I went with executioner and horome, wjth the amount if dps you can achive and mana zteal basically lifesteal for you, I never die.
Yea I run 21 hands chaos shape farmer worshipping ehekatl. 1 opatos hammer, 1 dragon slayer, and 19 replica dragon slayers to take advantage of an enchantment that has a chance to turn a miss into a critical hit. Opatos hammer for +100% life and ehekatl for stamina leech so I can spam swarm. I ride a carbuncle to avoid speed penalty from so many limbs alongside free heals. I host golden knight to carry heavy stuff and free regen/heals.
I stopped playing a couple months after lightfall, so im bit behind. I still use the weapons from when i left such as the osteo striga, taipan, witherhoard, thunderlord, and a random rocket launcher and smg. Im trying to prepare a good loudout in this month before the expansion.
What are you guys bringing to the new raid in the final shape?
What are some good warlock builds to use? I was using the broken starfire build but noticed they got nerfed.
For an actual answer, unless something drastically changes with DPS, the ol' Izanagi swap with Apex predators and Gjallahorn is still gonna be the most consistent thing you could do. For ad clear, run w.e. You clear ads with everything so effectively it doesn't matter. Machine guns are pretty good. So are wave frame GLs.
Things obviously can change depending on the exact scenario, but that should take you through the majority of those scenarios. Unless something comes out that does so much more damage that you're actually cutting down on a damage phase on contest consistently, idk why you'd change it up.
As for team compositions, I'll be doing what my team always does. 2 of each class. Prismatic might be a game changer, it might not be. We don't know the Well nerf, so that's a big mystery.
Thank you for your detailed answer. A couple more questions: Is izanagis catalyst a must? If so, should i just do rockets only for dps? any good machine gun recommendations? Is this season battlepass worth it? good legendary primary recommendations? And for linear fusion rifles is cataclysmic still king?
Again, thank you for taking the time to help me out.
Catalyst is a haaaaard must. You may as well not even use it without it's catalyst.
Commemoration and Hammerhead are top tier. You can also just use Thunderlord for ad clear, it's a beast. Any Machine gun is fine as long as it has the classic Reload/Damage perk combo. I highly value Auto loading (Or reconstruction) over anything so I don't have to reload for 3 seconds.
Battlepass, uhm... No? Unless you want the materials or w.e. I don't think it has anything crazy.
Honestly, w.e you want for primary. Handcannons are pretty strong rn tbh.
Cataclysmic is still king LFR, but LFRs in general are pretty mid. Whisper of the Worm out DPS's all of em.
I hope they destroy well. Everything about that super is just bad game design.
No one knows, prismatic about to drastically change the meta as well as huge balance changes to current weapons and abilities.
Yeah thats a good point. I still want to prepare as much as i can, because ive heard that the raid drops 3 days after the expansion. Thanks for your reply
rat king
Using the Squeaker to beat DSC is a hilarious experience.
Gumption.
Psychological baggage
You could say I'm pretty stoked about the end of this 10 year journey, but last night I had the most Vivid Dream. Normally I dream in first person, but in this dream I was watching a fire team try the new raid.
It's starts out in the EDZ (but you are actually in the pale heart) and the drifter has rigged some pyramid tech to despawn walls so you can progress into the pyramid. As a fire team you are killing adds for Motes of darkness to charge it and progress. When you get to the end of the path, you start to hear the witness laughing, but from all the voices it fades to just one voice.
Calus, and his astro projection appears in the sky box like the OG leviathans raid.
It wasnt exactly the same mechanic as before. He still pulled you around and blew ghosts at you, but you have to keep banking motes from the skulls without dying.
When you fill the tech up to max, it explodes his astral form, left standing where the tech was, is calus, he is expecting the witness to return him in his glory, but instead he is deformed and looks closer to nezarec's form, to this he escapes and we have to pursue further into the pyramid.
I just wanted to share this in case my dream is real.
nice
It is me again, your friendly neighborhood Prismatic Build planner. I started to actually think of what I needed for The Final Shape (TFS) launch and a big thing is finding loadouts that work for the starting slate of abilities we get for Prismatic from the Prismatic Deep Dive. So here I want to list out some builds that I think will be useful.
Tl;dr: If you just want quick shots of builds check this album: https://imgur.com/a/9VINdU7
Here are the categories of Prismatic Builds:
All Starter Builds use the same starting Fragments: Facets of Dawn, Hope, Protection, Purpose, Ruin. You may not be able to slot all 5 depending on fragment slots. Drop Dawn if the build isn't weapon focused. Drop Hope if you don't need class ability. Drop Ruin if you don't have Ignitions or Shatters.
I have a few resources here:
Hopefully this helps people out. Let me know if you have questions or comments.
Good Job! I think one of the things I'm going to try is pulling off a good Stasis titan as we can get rid of that god-awful melee and replace it with a better melee.
Also wouldn't insurmountable Skullfort work with your Thunder Fist Lancer?
It would but Point Contact Cannon Brace returns a lot of energy on kills and adds more damage and Jolts.
Insurmountable just returns the charge.
it also heals you, or starts to, anyway.
This might not be the post for it, but as a fellow TFS theorycrafter do you know if anyone’s said something about Spirit of Necrotic working with Weapons of Sorrow like Necrotic Grip does?
Been working on what could be an outrageously high uptime Trans build (Sacrifice and Bravery with Devour and Bleak Watcher/Arcane Needle, Generosity with Thorn/Necrochasm and Spirit of Necrotics) but I’m not sure if it works like I’m hoping it will.
I haven't heard but the perk description says poison spreads so it should.
Missing the Prismatic Build Image for the Starting Prismatic Gyrfalcon, just fyi :)
Got it in there now. Thanks for catching!
i was waiting for someone to post something like this in r/destiny2builds
thanks
Oh I always forget about that subreddit. Will post there too.
Awesome! Thanks for this
I want to run Salvation's Edge, but practically everyone I've asked to run it with me just doesn't consider the rewards to be worth it. Barely anybody's running it on the fireteam finder or the lfg discords either.
Can something please be done to bump up the raid population? Yeah, it's the game's hardest content, but it's also some of the best. Struggling to even try because it's too difficult to find a group is the stupidest reason ever to not be able to play it.
I've brought up these points before, but I'm putting them here too. There are multiple things that could be done to increase the raiding population and I feel like Bungie pretty much NEEDS to implement at least one:
People don’t like Salvation’s Edge and only wanted their one clear because it can be a struggle with LFG. Doesn’t help that outside of Desert Perpetual you don’t get any tiered gear or primes/pinnacles to level up so there are no incentives to run them unless you really want to craft something or another exotic.
The problem isn't the raiding population, as much as people just hate Salvation's Edge.
Like I know this goes against what people are saying, and I'm not saying your suggestions wouldn't help, but it really is that raid is not something people want to do.
Salvations edge, everyone’s favorite raid that they never want to run again
Ran it ~45 times. Not too bad actually. But you gotta have a willing crew
Which is crazy because the only bad/boring encounters are 1st and 3rd
Do people hate it? I think it’s just a LOT and people don’t want to do that with randoms or even with friends every week. It’s def not a raid people abhor tho
This week it has a total of 174 team clears, and only once hit 1K+ team clears since Edge of Fate released. By contrast, VoG has averaged around 6K team clears the past couple of weeks. This number is actually so high it beats Edge's clears throughout Episode Revenant.
I love SE. I do not love explaining Verity to the same person seven times.
My friend has also been asking the past 2 weeks to do a Witness CP. I don't think you could pay me to play Salvations again. I've done the thing on master, got the guns, got adepts, got the exotic, Verity is probably one of my favorite encounters in the game. No amount of reprised, tiered, or power boosted things are ever going to get me into that raid again, because its just tedium. It lacks a particular fun factor. Its a tedious raid. The shape and plate mechanics are tedious, it takes forever unless you have a dedicated KWTD team, Verity is a nightmare if you don't understand it, the witness without the cheese is just ick, and every single person, every single encounter (save for Verity if you get lucky/do it right) is doing something integral to its completion. If you've got a weak link and they can't learn, ya fucked.
Those would all be great improvements, featured RaD rotator should've never left, and that may work well for other raids; I'd love to see it for DSC, LW, GoS, and Vow for instance. SE in particular though, its LFG population is largely fucked by design due to the mechanical complexity of the raid itself, not a whole lots gonna change that. People kindly got their shit from that one, and they got the fuck out of it.
This right here pretty much sums up what I experienced when trying to help some of my old clan members get through that raid. Many of them have done other raids and we even did Scourge flawlessly. But, they aren't the fastest at things, have the best stats, and sort of stuck in their ways with using certain weapons. Some of them struggle with directions and lighting. SE is not a raid that you can have someone be on the sideline. It took forever to get through encounter one and their lack of speed/adaptability started showing in the 2nd encounter. Even with multiple weeks of trying. They never could get to a second damage phase.
honestly they should just add weekly pinnacles back, at least for now. portal would still be the main way you grind but you can still get weekly boosts from dungeons and raids
They genuinely murdered the raid population outside of DP and that is already pretty damn low.
Clanmates and I ran a pretty chill 3-feat raid, which if you didn't know, on your first clear of the week drops 2 items per encounter. We all got about 1 T5 piece per encounter as well.
No need to bust your ass to do cutthroat (though if you're a better player than us, you definitely can do it and guarantee T5s)
Does this tier 5 gear require having a light level of 400+?
raid gear drops arent tied to light
It needs 450+ light level to get T5 from three feats
Raid gear isn’t tied to power level but rather feats active. The power cap starts at 100 with no feats active.
It does not, our team did it last night and I’m the only person over 450. They all got more T5s than I did. It’s not attached to your power for Desert Perpetual.
No. The Desert Perpetual raid is almost entirely detached from the power system and has very low requirements.
Its drops are purely based on how many feats you have active. It’s guaranteed tier 3 minimum now with having more feats increasing the odds of tier 4s and tier 5s dropping.
pre the change on Sept 23rd i had done a 3 feat clear and i got a tier 5 (that run i got my exotic too) so i was really concerned how i managed to get a tier 5 (wee woo + target lock) smg from a tier 3…..lucky i guess?
Did a 5 feat yesterday full run. Every single drop including the mid-encounter traversal chests were T5s. Feels great.
2 drops per encounter?? Rad rad rad
Can you buy a t5 after a 3 feat run? I was able to buy a t5 sub last night after a 4 feat run, wondering if you can do the same on a 3 feat full run.
Only if you have previously had a T5 of that item drop, yes
we did a quick no feats last night, dropped several pieces of t5 and the exotic (nothing for me lol). first exotic i’ve seen in game.
will the legendary campaign let me be raid ready? or after the campaign i will need more power grind?
and also, if i wanna go as a hunter in my day one, should i start final shaep as a hunter?
From what I heard, the legendary campaign gets you to 1960, and you need to be at least 1965 for the raid
and you think 5 levels are easy to get on the main character? i really wanna go as hunter
God, I hope so. Having a 9-5 and only 2 days to prep is gonna be annoying, but im sure bungie takes into account that people have jobs
Whats the maximum effective power for the raid going to be? If you want to get as high as possible for it?
1965
Two bosses, two puzzles. Four encounters, maybe a doors. Really hope we get a bit more to chew on with the finale
Well we have gotten one reprised raid and a new raid for the past couple expansions. What if we got a two part raid for final shape?
Personally, I just want more different style encounters like Leviathan or Last Wish. Raids feel like 6 man dungeons now where after the first solve/mechanic you know the next one is just going to slightly build upon to the point that the solve is too easy.
Except for explicator which just decides it's entirely its own mechanic that doesn't build on the mechanics before it, or foreshadow mechanics after it
Complete outlier from the rest of the raid, for better and worse
Root is guilty of this...
But Vow? Sure it's got the memorization of the symbols but the mechanics are different in every encounter.
Although I see your point for DSC and Garden.
Man Vow is such a phenomenal raid.
Bungie should stop making one Raid mechanic for the entire activity. They did better in Year 1.
Leviathan came out with essentially five encounters. Castellum, Baths, Dogs, Gauntlet, and Calus. Baths and Gauntlet were fundamentally different puzzle encounters, Dogs was a unique boss fight, and Calus was another unique boss fight.
Ever since Garden of Salvation, Raids have been predictable and boring. Garden? Tether-Relay. DSC? Scanner, Operator, Suppressor. Vow? Symbols. Root? Literally Crota’s End.
I think the buffs should have been used for other things aside from running.
Like on first encounter, you need the buff to kill the psions, simple extra mechanic but forces something outside of one person to interact with the nodes.
Or you can only plant so many nodes in a row (yes this kills low man runs but honestly that's such a low percentage of people). Like you can only plant a full sequence then you have a cooldowns of X seconds so you could run on 1 and then again on 3, forces 2 runners.
On second encounter, same thing. You can plant on first floor but not second floor and then plant again on third floor.
Or for second floor make a secondary wipe condition where everyone has to swap sides once per floor, make the ad clear take a second and cross. Something to make it more interesting because shooting a couple guys with the buff is not much of a mechanic for 4 ad clear people.
Planets I think is well done, 4 people do stuff and 2 ad clear. Honestly one of my favorite raid encounters and the challenge was unique and not horribly designed like the second encounter.
For last encounter, 2 runners and one person shooting the chest so it's not a bouncy castle gives half the people a mechanic to do. But it does need something else to spice it up. Maybe make it so left should has to be shot with dark buff and right shoulder needs shot with light buff?
I know they'll never implement any of this but there's a lot of potential to add mechanics on each of them so it isn't just 1/2 runners and ad clear
The fact that these are so easy to add tells me it was very intentionally kept simple to get more people into raiding and endgame activities and it seems to have worked. I would say there is a benefit to having a raid in game that is this accessible, though it would become a detriment if others followed suit.
Even for low-mans it would've been doable if you were locked out of one node for 15 seconds or something. Scission is generous enough with its timer that it wouldn't be impossible, or even stressed.
The same mechanic exists in Deep Stone Crypt and Descent/Taniks are very much trio-able.
I agree Planets was an incredible encounter. Honestly it was the only encounter that felt like a raid encounter. The others felt like dungeon encounters.
Final Shape needs to be The Big One. This is the end of an era, the end of a 10-year saga. Story and raid NEED to be exceptional, on the level of or exceeding forsaken, or it will be remembered forever as a disappointment. This will be what defines the game's legacy. Hope they're bringing their A game.
My biggest issue with D2 raids is how there's never any sense of triage, often mechanics are done in such a "PASS/FAIL" way where like, if one person makes one error everyone has to just jump off and die because either the one shot mechanic is gonna go through or there's no way to salvage due to loss of momentum.
I never felt like that in wow raids. There are definite raid-killing mistakes throughout the history of the game like blowing people up on Baron Geddon but they arent as excessive as they are in Destiny where a lot more responsibilities is hoisted on to each individual.
I wish more encounters in destiny 2 raids felt like they could be "saved" from mistakes with a bit of grit, rather than like "oops johnny shot the snake button instead of the spider button on accident when there's like 20 buttons that all look similar, incoming raid wipe mechanic.."
Like idk, maybe spawn a few adds and make it tougher instead? Let us pay for our mistake by making the encounter harder, it doesn't always have to be punished with a full wipe especially when an attempt can take 5+ minutes and then something silly as shooting the wrong button or missing a jump means boom you wiped.
Idk, I just feel like raids can be hard without mistakes having to be so punitive IE restarting the entire encounter. I usually feel like a wipe should be a culmination of multiple errors, not necessarily one single one.
Edit: I know there are some D2 encounters that fit this bill somewhat, it's more like a general criticism, I do think most encounters (across all raids) fall into my criticism.
I completely agree imo Rhulk (and Vow overall) is far simpler than most people make it out to be, the hardest part being having to look on your phone/second screen to remember the symbol on your early runs. What is nice with the raid though is how unique Rhulk is with how hectic and fast he is compared to other raid boss, cause let’s be frank they tend to be pretty static. I feel like RoN would have been love a lot more if Neza was like Rhulk, ie if the plate weren’t as free for damage phase.
Unfortunately the only truly mechanically hard raid we have is Last Wish and the community has collectively decided they’d rather cheese it. So not exactly sending a good message to Bungie.
